Macbook - closed the display lid and the computer restarts
any ideas ... i have tried restarts, reparing permission, reinstalls .... its like using windows ... or maybe even in iphone as it seems this too is struggling.
i miss when the products just worked, time and time again
do i just need to take this into apple for help or will there finally be an update to resolve this problem ...
i need to depend on this computer - any idea.
thanks for your insights.
one of our brand new MacBooks has the same exact problem: occasionally, when closing the display the macbook will spontaneously close all programs without providing a "save" prompt and restart.
being brand new - it has the latest firmware, and i've updated to 10.4.10.
anyone else having this issue - any resolutions? i agree that it's most likely a hardware malfunction.

In an earlier version of Firefox, when I went to close it, I would get a prompt "save tabs and quit?" that allowed me to see the same websites open from the last time I closed the computer. Where is that feature on the new version of Firefox?
Firefox 4 and later versions save the previous session automatically, so there is no longer need for the dialog asking if you want to save the current session.
Use "File > Exit" or "Firefox > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit Firefox") if you want to restore multiple windows or otherwise have problems with restoring tabs.
You can use "History > Restore Previous Session" to get the previous session at any time.
You may need to click the orange/gray Firefox button to see History.
There is also a "Restore Previous Session" button on the default about:home Home page.
Using the "Show my windows and tabs from last time" setting is a more reliable way to restore session data.

error message says "the computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install windows, click "OK" to restart the computer, and then restart the installation." but when I restart the screen flashes and just brings me right back here
Safe boot should be an option as well as normal or without network
you could also try Windows DVD automatic repair, use last restore check point, make sure it had enough free space
also making a 2nd account and maybe use standard non-admin for general use
you installed a driver, or patch tuesday or your hibernation file used all the free space. -

I tried to download Itunes onto my computer. It seemed to download, then the computer restarted itself, but the file for itunes isn't there. Why didn't it download right?
After doing some research, I found out that I had accidently hid iPhoto after I paused the download. After going into my apple id account and saw my hidden purchases, I found it. Thank you so much helping me though!

I've tried to upgrade to Snow Leopard 10.6.3. I run the full install and my computer restarts to complete the installation, but when it restarts the software has not upgraded. Any suggestions?
Are you booting from the retail disc to do the installation, or running it while booted from Macintosh HD?
It should work either way, but it doesn't always work when booted from Macintosh HD. The system files are supposed to be moved into place during the restart (while the HD is unmounted) making for a long restart time which sometimes causes people to think somethings wrong and abort it. Which is a bad move.
If you're booting from the retail disc it's less obvious what the problem may be; however if you've tried it from booted from the HD and it's failed, then tried booting from the disc, it will fail again because the system components are already on the HD in a disc image waiting to be moved into place.
Whichever way you were tryig, I'd try downloading OmnDiskSweeper (it's free) and using it to see if there's a large package (around 7-10 GB) lurking somewhere that may contain the installer files. If you do, you'll need to trash that before the installer will see a 'clean' system again.
It's also worth asking how much free space you have on your HD - if there's not enough for the installer to use for the temporary package or dmg, it'll fail.
Was there no warning dialogue after the unsuccessful install?

My mac book pro has three updates ready to install. When I select all three of them and click install it shows them downloading, the computer restarts, and when the computer turns back on and I go to updates again they are still there to install. Help
Best to install them one at a time, re-booting between each one.

My macbook pro will not download or update software. The computer restarts without an update. How do I fix this?
Hello, which exact update is this? Which OSX version?

It's been going on recently and even though I've tried to do an Software Update and click "sleep" before closing the lid, nothing seems to work...
Has anyone else had this problem and would have recommendations on how to fix it?
Thank you!I think the behaviour of closing the lid has changed between "before Lion" and "since Lion" - which OS version do you have? There is a free utility called InsomniaX that help control this behaviour - see http://semaja2.net/archives/206 for more info.
Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

Macbook Pro Retina Display - Sound and video doesn't work at the same time.
I just bought a macbook pro retina display and tried to watch a movie by connecting my macbook pro via hdmi to my home theater receiver (Onkyo TX-SR309) and into my HDTV (Sony Bravia 42"). My problem is, i don't get sound from the speakers connected to the receiver.
When i disconnect the HDTV from the receiver (only the receiver is connected to the macbook pro), then sounds will comes out from the speaker.
Can somebody help me to fix this problem? With the HDMI connected and the Onkyo powered on, open system preferences, go to the sound panel, and select the HDMI choice.

Have a MacBookPro. The computer will not boot up. the screen has black and white bands with multi color bands as well.
Yeah it's dead. Take it to an Apple Genius Bar and have it checked out. Then buy a new one.
