Macbook Coating on Screen has scratches

Hi there, so recently, I kept seeing this annoying smudge in the top right of my Macbook screen which didnt seem to want to come off with my finger. I finally decided to clean my screen and I tried using my finger nail to scratch off the smudged area as it wasnt smooth like the rest of the screen. So I think I've made it worse because its definitely more noticeable as it actually looks like the coating on the screen is scratched and a lighter shade than the rest of my still intact screen...It's now obviously bugging me even more. What can I do to fix this at home (either a safe at home remedy...or some specialized product I can buy)...or should I just bring it into the Genius bar?
Anyone else had this issue and/or been able to fix it without paying an arm and a leg?
Thanks!
ps. below is a picture of the 'scratches'

you need a new screen if you would like it fixed.

  • Screen has scratches- how to get replaced?

I was out golfing with some buddies and I put my phone in the cart, but when my friend went to drive, the phone fell out and hit the gravel cart path. It's still under the 1 year warranty.  Will Apple fix it for free or will it be $199?

Of course they will not fix it for free.
Are scratches on your tv covered by warranty?
    Computer?
    Car?
    Anything?
    You would have to pay.

  • MacBook Pro's screen pixelated

Hi there, my mom's late 2006 MacBook Pro's screen has turned all pixelated. Not sure if there's a way to fix this or if I should just take it in to the Genius Bar. Any ideas or suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks.

The 2006 MBP has an ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 graphics card which did not have the problems that the June 2007 and later model MBPs with the Nvidia 8600M GT had. You could try running an Apple Hardware test to maybe pinpoint the problem.

  • Macbook Pro's screen flickering pink lines?

My mid-2009 Macbook Pro's screen has recently started flickering pink lines in fields that are otherwise normally white (browser windows, text fields, etc). It happened spontaenously one day last week. The machine was never dropped or anything. At first, I thought smc reset and pram reset fixed it, but the problem has returned.
One small quirk: pressing down on the machine roughly in between where the two fans are temporarily fixes the issue, until I release it. Seating it on top of an object that applies pressure there also allows the screen to function normally.

Take it to an Apple store genius bar and have the techs test it...could be something as simple as a loose connector, or something more serious like a problem with the graphics module or the logic board.

Wow!  I think I had this same issue just last night.
I was cleaning my macbook pro retina on the outside.  Then I opened it up and was wiping dust off the monitor and I can't pinpoint exactly when, but the colors changed suddenly.  It looked super strange, it was like green halo's and it looked worse when looking at it at an angle.  Of course I took no pictures!!!  I was freaking out that my 2 grand laptop was busted and I somehow removed a protective film or something.
But I digress...  The image looked very green and spacey, it was almost a neat effect.  After about 5 minutes it started to look a little more digital though.  There were straight lines of this halo effect on the edges and top.  After about 10 minutes it turned into a predominate issue with the blacks on screen.  I could open a web browser and it was unnoticable on a white background.  After about 15 minutes, you could only barely see the green cloud effect if you looked at the monitor from an extreme angle.  After about 20 minutes, it was completely back to normal, I almost feel paranoid like I see a halo or something strange.  But I believe that might be all in my head now.
So yerp, lemme know what you guys figure out.

    Try restarting your Mac.
If that doesn't help, open a Finder window. Select your Home folder (it has a small house icon) in the Sidebar on the left.
Now open the Library folder then the Prefernces folder.
Move the com.apple.desktop.plist file to the Trash. Restart your Mac one more time.

I noticed this last week when I opened the macbook and now I am always seening it. I am seeing the blue vertical line always in the screen. However, I am not seeing this line when I open Word, Excel, PowerPoint files (without pictures). But I am seeing this line always when I see movies, pictures, and all the files which have pictures. Backup your files to a external hard drive and disconnect.
Call Apple and make a warranty call, then take it to the nearest Apple Store etc.
You can run these things and it might clear your issue or give further informaiton
    Perform a hardware check

Then see if resetting the SMC/PRAM resolve your issue

  • My 2013 15" retina macbook pro screen has a yellow tint, should i ask for a replacement?

So yesterday i got my retina macbook pro 15 " and right away i noticed my worst fear ( since i previously had read some similar stories) my screen has a noticeable yellow tint specially on white tones, websites have a "newspaper look " to them, since i bought this computer because im starting web design in university in a couple of months i would say i'm pretty much ******, people say i shoud just calibrate it, but most people dont calibrate their screen, so it would be  a mess, my work would look good on my computer but ****** on other's people computer
I'm very surprised because i thought this issue only affected the initial batch of retina macbook pros, but i checked my serial online and my computer was made in January 2013 so its quite new, the panel is a Samsung "LSN154YL01001.
I have read that usually LG panels don't suffer as much from the yellow tint but they suffered from Image retention, is it stil like this? what do you think i should do should i keep this computer with the samsung screen or get apple to give me a new one hopefully with a LG panel or at least a samsung without yellow tint

Actually MOST People that work in all parts of the Design field DO Calibrate their screens. It is the only way to make sure what you are looking at on your computer screen will be the same on other design professionals screens and to the general public.
Wherever you got the notion that Design professionals and or design schools of all types don't calibrate their screens is completely incorrect.
So it is up to you whether you calibrate or not and or to return that Retina for one that has a better color balanced screen from the start. Along with that the new unit you get may have other problems as the Retina models are plagued with random problems. The screens only be one of them.

I got an iPod Nano 3rd Generation and it has scratches on the screen, and the warranty is already expired. Can it be repaired and how much is it going 2 be.?

    Hello HernanOtt,
Depends on where you have it serviced.  Here are Apple's repair quotes.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/service/prices/
You would probably save a lot of money by having a 3rd party repair company do the job for you instead.  Just do a simple Google search for iPod repair and you'll get a plethora of results.

CCan I use MacBook pro A1211 with external monitor, screen has died but computer seems fine

Hmm seems like this model has DVI out. You could just plug a standard DVI monitor into that. Or use the DVI connector (VGA supported with included adapter; S-video and composite video supported with optional adapters) adapter that came w/ your machine.
