Macbook color settings only allow 'Millions' of colors

I need to change the color setting to 'thousands' in order to use an application (game called ISPY). In the menu option, my macbook only allows 'Millions' of colors. How can I change this?

Not that this may matter...my iMac does allow the thousands setting. Coming from the pc world that would be a video driver issue. In the mac world I am not sure if you can "update" your video driver specifically.

  • Remote desktop from Win 7 to Win server 2003 only allows 16 bit color depth. How to increase to at least 24 bit?

Hi! I'd like to RDP in to a Win server 2003 computer from my new Windows 7 (x64) computer. There's no problem to connect but the connection only allows me to use 16 bit color depth on the Windows server 2003 client. The program I want to use on this computer requires at least 24 bit to run.
I've googled around and tried it all:
-setting the color depth to 4 or 5 through regedit (on both computers)
-creating a Group Policy object-snap in through mmc
-reading endless of forums but no one has had the same issue as I
My question. If all the ordinary solutions isn't working what could the issue then be? My only suspision at this point is the the RDP-client on Win server isn't working properly. The Windows Server 2003 client is fully updated machine and it should have the RDP 5.2-version installed but I can only find 5.1. Could this be the issue? That it needs to be 5.2 to properly communicate with a win7(x64)? If so, how can I upgrade solely the RDP-client since it seems not to have followed with the Automatic Update as it should?
All answers and feedback are very much appreciated!
    Many thanks

    Hello Frank,
Thanks for your feedback and the test.
I still recommend you to check the local group policy setting “Limit maximum color depth” on the Terminal Server side. Based on your description of Group Policy Object Editor, I suspect the loss of Terminal Services folder is caused by system.adm file not loaded successfully. Please try to fix it via the following steps:
    1.     Open Group Policy Object Editor (run “gpedit.msc”) on the terminal server.
    2.     Expand Computer Configuration \ Administrative Templates
    3.     Right click Administrative Templates folder and select Add/Remove Templates, if system is not listed in the panel, go to Step 4; If it is, remove it and go to Step 4.
    4.     Click Add button.
    5.     In the next phase, it is Windows\inf folder, if it is not, please navigate to the folder. Select system.adm file and click Open.
    6.     Check if the Terminal Services folder appears under Windows Components now.
Thanks for your cooperation and we’re looking forwards to the result. Thanks.

  • Save for web color shift - only on images smaller than 150x150px

I'm getting a color shift only on small images (150x150px or smaller) when I save for web in Photoshop CC and CS6. That's very weird as it doesn't happen to images larger than 150x150px! That issue happens with images with different measurements as well (e.g. rectangle), the small looks dull and the larger display the right color.
My Color Settings are set to "Monitor Color". Under save for web I have the following options not ticked: Embed Color Profile and Convert to sRGB. (viget.com/inspire/the-mysterious-save-for-web-color-shift)
I'm running the OS X 10.8.4 on a macbook pro, I tested that on both, Safari 6.0.5 and FF.
The squares in the screenshot were saved exatly the same way. The largerer displays the right color #FFCB32, but the smaller displays the color wrong.
    I appreciate your help.
    Cheers

  • Crash when changing color settings

    InDesign CS3 5.0.3.
4 machines. 3 are exactly the same hardware-wise with 10.4x. 1 is new with 10.5x.
I'm changing the color settings for CS3. I put new .csf and .icc files in their proper libraries.
I change PS color settings on all. Happy happy.
I change the Bridge "Creative Suite Color Settings" on all. Happy happy.
2 machines (both 10.4x)--InDesign opens/works fine. The other two don't want to have anything to do with this new color settings---crash crash crash. Delete color settings preference and all is well.
The situation is the same if I DON'T change the "creative suite color settings" in Bridge and try to change the color settings only in INDD.
Has anyone else run into something similar?
    Thanks

  • New MacBook Air display has same 6 bit color? I bet it does.

Sadly, all we have for color depth in the tech specs is the same old 'support for millions of colors' which we know in the past to have been a total lie. All the laptop displays have been 6 bit color, 262,144 colors, period. A great article on 6 bit versus 8 bit color can be found at:
    http://compreviews.about.com/od/multimedia/a/LCDColor.htm
The tech specs for the new laptops don't indicate any improvement.
And yes, the displays use dithering to fake millions of colors. Yes, all displays use mixing of RGB colors to fool the eye into seeing millions of colors. And yes, not one laptop display I am aware of, including PCs, has adequate color depth to allow any real color matching for professional use. Use a high end external display for color matching purposes. CRTs are still considered adequate if not superior for this purpose.

    Umm...
Every laptop has 6bit colors. There aren't any 8bit laptop panels that Apple could use infact. Except for some very new 17" ones...
The thing is, 8 bit panels use more power and are regarded by most of the industry as overkill for laptops.
Anyway I repeat, there are no 13" 8bit panels in existence.
You want 8 bit color? Plug in a CinemaHD or a Dell VA or IPS panel.

  • Why are some websites turning hot pink in Firefox? In IE it's fine. I can't read text and buttons are missing as well as some photos. It's really difficult and I've already checked my Color settings. Help?

I've recently tried to make the switch to Firefox as we all know IE is unsafe and my computer was almost lost to a virus. However, it's been difficult as I can't log into my e-mail (after thirty seconds I get kicked back to the login page) and some screens come up as a violently pink color with pale blue font. Links disappear and often times the wording is rewritten in Times font over a button. Pictures disappear and simply say where the photo came from (like "Photo courtesy of the AP") I've tried to adjust settings but it's not helping any.

You can check the default color settings:
    * Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Colors
Also make sure that "Allow pages to choose their own colors, instead of my selections above" has a check mark.

  • Color Settings: What do they really do?

The Edit > Color Settings command has choices "No Color Management", "Optimize for Computer Screens", and "Optimize for Printing". The documentation states that the latter two choices select sRGB and AdobeRGB color spaces, respectively.
What's not so clear are the conditions under which this selected color space is imposed. I once imagined that it specifies the working color space that the Editor uses. But if that were true, then I would expect that the image, once brought into the Editor, would be converted to the selected color space. What actually happens is that the image remains in its original color space unless an explicit Image > Convert Color Profile command is issued. (This is evident in the image properties dialog or the print dialog.)
So my question is: What is the actual use that PSE5 makes of the color space that is selected by Edit > Color Settings? Is this just for dealing with source images that are untagged or that are tagged with a profile other than sRGB or AdobeRGB?
It seems to me that it might be desirable to convert sRGB images to AdobeRGB prior to editing them. Then color adjustments or other editing operations could take advantage of the wider gamut of AdobeRGB compared to sRGB. The adjusted results might then include colors that are out-of-gamut for sRGB and that can improve the appearance of the printed output. But perhaps I am mistaken about whether this is really useful in practice.
(The above discussion assumes that the images originate as JPEGs. I realize that the color space story is entirely different for images originating as camera RAWs.)

    Ed.....
The settings in Edit > Colour Settings have, in my opinion, misleading titles. You need to read carefully the small print that appears at the bottom of the Window which describes what each does.
    b No Colour Management......
this is the obvious one. Elements performs no colour management and so you'll see your images just as if you where using any other Non-Colour Managed program...for example IE7. It also means that new documents you create from scratch will have your Monitor Profile associated with them which is not very useful.
b Optimise for Screen and Optimise for Print......
these turn on Colour Management but neither has any effect if the image you are opening already has a profile associated with it. The embedded profile gets honoured and thats what your working space will be.
If your image does not have a profile associated with it then Elements assigns sRGB if you set the 'Screen' option or AdobeRGB if you set the 'Print' option. This may or may not be the right choice for the image, depending on how it was created.
If you create a New Document from scratch then each setting decides the choice of working space - 'Screen' > sRGB, 'Print' > AdobeRGB
In v4 there is also a 'Allow me to Choose' option which checks that the image has a profile and uses that but if not then allows you to choose sRGB or AdobeRGB.
Converting from sRGB to AdobeRGB has no real advantage since the sRGB colour space is smaller. If the image source doesn't have the colours then converting wont produce them. The reverse is different. The conversion process has to decide how to map colours on the edge of the AdobeRGB space into a smaller space and still keep the general perception of colours the same. Typically they are just thrown away in Elements but on full Photoshop you have more control over this process.
RAW images as you say are different but still effected by the Colour Settings. If you have the 'Screen' option set then once you process the RAW image the result is in the sRGB space. Likewise if you choose 'Print' then the image is in AdobeRGB.
RAW images are in a very much wider space than AdobeRGB so you're possibily throwing away more colours. However, keep in mind that your display is probably close to sRGB and your printer may be totally different in its capability of re-producing colours.

  • Conflict with color settings

    Hello,
I'm using Creative Cloud and all my programs have synchronized colors. My problem is with InDesign. Colors do not look the same there. Everytime I go to color settings, the program shows this error:
"Some parameters in the color settings file could not be used. Default values will be used instead."
And InDesign changes color to default values. I can select my custom color space but I don't know if it is really working, because every time I go to Edit> color settings... I get the same error. I have to manually change my color settings every time I launch InDesing.
My custom color settings (initially set on Photoshop and synchronized using Bridge. I'm copying them from InDesign) are:
    Working Spaces
    RGB: Adobe RGB (1998)
CMYK: U.S. Web Coated (Swop) v2
    Color Management Policies
    RGB: Preserve Embedded Profiles
CMYK: Preserve Numbers (Ignore Linked Profiles)
(Nothing selected on "Profile Mismathes" and "Mising profiles")
    Conversion Options:
    Engine: Adobe (ACE)
    Intent: Perceptual
("Use Black Point Compensation" is selected).
InDesing is the only program in the suite that can not synchronize with this settings.
I'm using Windows 7, 64 bit. All my Adobe programs are up to date. In design version is 8.0. This problem happens with any other custom workspace created, no matter what options are selected.
Thanks in advanced for any comments or help with this matter,
    Alí Marín

Have you tried reinstalling InDesign? It sounds like something's wrong with your color profiles.
That's the only thing I haven´t tried, but I will and post about it.
I found a workaround though: If I set my desired color settings in InDesign, but don´t save them, then it works; I no longer get the error message if I go to Edit> Color Settings...
The color settings dialog box says that my Creative Cloud applications are unsynchronized, because I´m not using the .csf file previously synchronized using Bridge, but the settings are exactly the same and I can get around it. Colors actually work as they should.
So this seems to be a problem with InDesign accessing any saved color settings file. My color profiles aren´t wrong, because all other programs in the Suite use them with no trouble.
InDesign just wants to have it's own, non saved, color settings. How about that? Guess I got the selfish version .

  • I'm having a hard time understanding the best way I should have my color settings, set. Can I get someone's help with this?

I am scanning old photographs with an Epson V750 Pro and have a question on how my Photoshop should be set, or how the scanner should be set.
I have Photoshop 7.0 and it works fine, but I have started scanning some old photographs with my new Epson V750 Pro scanner and every time I go to open a scanned photograph, I receive a message reading:
My Photoshop's color setting are "custom" set: I never changed anything, but this is how I've always ued it and have never had any problem before. Is there a better way it should be set?
Right now these are the Color Settings:
Should any of these settings be different? If something in Photoshop should be changed, what should I do? I don't want to be asked this every time I open a scanned image.
Or, should any of the settings in the Epson Scanner when scanning?
    Right now:
The other color settings available are 48-bit Color and Color Smoothing, but sometimes when I use the 48-bit Color, Photoshop will give me an error when I go to save the edited scan, telling me there isn't enough space to save it. I have no idea why this happens because there is plenty of space, but I end up having to change the scan to 300dpi to save it.
Well, I don't know if any of this makes since, but I would love to receive any help. I would like to understand why I am having this problem and how the color settings should be, so I don't have this trouble anymore.
    Thanks,
    Sean

In Epson Scan, click Configuation at the bottom of the main window, and try these settings.
If it doesn't work, I think it'll  be ok converting to sRGB in Photoshop,
Edit: You can set PS to convert to sRGB automatically under Color Settings > Color Management  Policies > RGB.
But if you can control it from Epson Scan, that's probably preferrable.

  • After Effects Color Settings

    Hello Everyone.
I noticed Inside File-Project Settings- Color Settings, My working space is set to None. Is this color setting works like the Photoshop,  that you have either Adobe RGB 1998, or ProPhoto RGB ?
Also In The Dept, It is set to 8 bit.
My Images, are Originally Raw Shots 16 bit and later saved as a .Tiff format.  and their color setting is Adobe RGB 1998, Or ProPhoto RGB. 16 bit and some In 8 bit , and some of my Images
Have been saved for the web are sRGB, 8 bit.  And my Videos are from Canon 5D, and they are 1920 by 1080 24 fps.  I also have many old Shots from my Canon GL1, that are "NTSC not HD".
But I am not sure about this After Effects Color Settings..  Is this color setting has to match the PhotoShop Color setting ?
    Thanks.

Product Name: HP Color LaserJet Professional CP5225dn Printer (CE712A)

    Hi,
That's a very good question actually. In my corporate networks, we are talking about hundreds of laser printers and the ONLY thing we can do: only allow people access to a set of mono laser printers, not all printers. For example, the following printer is using B&W as default but can't stop users to print in colors if they could access to the resourse:

  • MacBook doesn't display properly in Millions of Colors

Apologies for being a novice. I have a black Mac Book purchased in June 2007.
Over the weekend, my display went funky. Everything is blurry and garbled. I believe it is related to the color setting. When the laptop starts up, it is fine but then after one second, it becomes garbled.
If I try to rotate the screen, it blanks out and then displays in millions of colors but when I restart, same problems.
    Any thoughts? Thanks.
