Macbook confusion at chennai

Hi Guys
I'm looking to buy Macbook in Chennai.
I'm bit confused to buy one.
Can any one give me a valid reason to buy macbook than dell and other books.
Could I able to run windows application in my MAC other than bootcamp.

Hi G Ragu,
You're going to have to be more specific on your needs. Tell us about what you currently have, what applications you're going to be running, budget, "power" needs, etc. Not to mention, a well educated shopper would perform their own research and then use things like discussion boards as supplement advice... not primary.
Yes, you can install VMware Fusion or Parallels Desktop and run Windows directly within Mac OS X. You can also start here - http://www.apple.com/getamac/

  • MacBook confusion...

I have selected the same update five times and my app store is still telling me the update needs to be made. The update is labeled "Pro Video Formats 2.0.1" ... Also the icon for my garageband app is telling me it is paused and waiting to be downloaded (updated), the app store is telling me it has already (though I know it hasn't updated yet) and only gives me an open option. What can I do to fix this and what can I do to ensure that such glitches (or whatever they are) are minimally possible. Is there any software or security measures I can use to clean up and lock up my MacBook? I prefer products made by or highly recommend by Apple, Inc.
    Help me please....
    Trevor

Actually my update reads Yosemite 10.10.3
    Sorry for the mistake...

  • Macbook Keeps Forgetting My Wireless

    Hey Everyone,
I have had my Macbook for about two weeks now and I am having a constant annoying problem. Every now and then when I open up my Macbook from sleep it has forgotten my wireless network. When I go into network settings my network is listed, but the computer still says it is not found. However, in the list of available networks that it gives me, it lists mine. I doubt it is supposed to be acting like this. It stays connected fine for a while, no matter if I reboot, sleep, it stays connected. But then at other random times it forgets and I need to reenter my key to connect to my network, even though the key is listed in my keychain access under system, therefore I have had to resort to having a text file with my key saved to my computer for when it forgets so I do not have to go looking for it.
Does anyone know what would be causing my Macbook to stop recognizing my network and making me have to reconnect and put in my WEP key?
    Hope someone can help, thanks.
PS - It isn't a router that you need to put in the WEP key over and over because it works fine on my Windows XP dell. Also, if I turn off airport and turn it back on, it will then connect to my network fine. Just don't want to have to do this all the time.

I have similar problem happened regularly. I have been using the same credential saved on my keychain for my wireless connection. It caused no problem and my experience of surfing was pleasure for long time until about the Nov in 2008.
My Macbook and my Mini seem to experience the temporary loss of memory. I sometime need to try the credential a couple times to get it thru. I started to wonder if the recent system update would make my Macbook confused.
Anything I can do to resolve this issue?

  • Saving my iPhoto to a external HD

    Hello!
I have a MacBok Pro and use iPhoto 08, my problem is my iPhoto Lib is reaching 92GB! So I want to store my photos on a portable HD. Is there an easy way to do it? I understand that I will have to take the portable HD with me every where I go if I want to access my Lib, and that is ok with me. Also I was told that if went to my photo Lib and did a drag of the iPhoto (icon) or is it a packet to an external HD it will also copy the whole Lib! (I did this and it seemed to work as i did a get info on it. and it was the same size as the the one on the MacBook) Confused right! what I want to do is have my Lib in at least two places, one working and one as a back up and have free space on the laptop, any help is greatly appreciated.
    Mike Collins

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
To back up the Library: simply make a copy on another volume or disk. For incremental back ups then use a utility such as DejaVu or Chronosync . There are many others. Search on MacUpdate.

Sometimes deleting the account and then re-creating it can solve this issue
Write down all the information in accounts before doing this
Highlight the account on the left and click the minus button
Then click the plus button to add the new account and follow the prompts

  • I am confused about something.  How do I read a book on my MacBook Pro?  I can't find the iBook app anywhere, which is what I use on my iPad.  The book I want to read is in my iTunes but I can't click on it.  My iBook library does not show up in iTunes.

I am confused about something.  How do I read a book on my MacBook Pro?  I can't find the iBook app anywhere, which is what I use on my iPad.  The book I want to read is in my iTunes but I can't click on it.  Some of my iBooks show up in my iTunes but they are "grayed" out.  The only books that respond in iTunes are audiobooks and that's not what I'm looking for.  Is this a stupid question?

Nevermind - I answered my own question, which is I CAN"T READ ANY BOOKS I purchased in iBooks on my MacBook Pro.  If I want to read on my mac I have to use Kindle or Nook.  Which means any book I've already purchased through iBooks has to be read on my iPad.  Kind of a drag because there are times when it's more convenient for me to read while I'm sitting with my Mac.

  • Issue with MacBook Pro (mid 2009) wifi multiple AP signal 'confusion'

I'll try to explain this as best I can, not being an expert in networking!
I recently upgraded my router from a Linksys WRT160N to an Airport Extreme, in the hope that it would do a better job of broadcasting a stronger wifi signal throughout my house. Whilst it is improved, it's still no good enough for streaming to my iPad 2 where I want in the house. Reading around on the web I discovered that I should be able to use the Linksys as an AP to extend the effective range of my wifi network, as long as it is hardwired into the base station via Ethernet (no WDS support on the Linksys model).
So, I managed to get this all up and running, disabling the dchp on the Linksys, fixed ip allocation etc and using the same SSID and passwords etc. All is well with the iPhone and iPad2 access - they just automatically switch to the strongest signal no problem when I move around the house. Cool.
The issue lies with the MBP - I have a favoured spot in the house where both the broadcast signal from the AEBS and Linksys are very strong, and the MBP gets all confused. opening up the lid from standby it searches for the wifi (bar moving up and down the signal indicator) and then just has an exclamation mark. I try to manually select the SSID but no dice. I have to switch the MBP adaptor off and on, rescan avail networks, and lo and behold two versions of my SSID are shown. Select one and then it connects. However, I have to go through this whole exercise every time I pull the MBP out of standby, which is very irritating.
I do have a workaround - if I name the SSID on the Linksys something different, the problem goes away. However, i effecktively now have 2 wireless networks & I then have to manually switch between the two SSID's to get the strongest signal depending where I am in the house. It's suffices for now but not ideal.
What I don't get is why is it only the MBP affected & the iPhone & iPad 2 are fine? Is this anything to do with the 2.4 ghz & 5 ghz being broadcast by the AEBS getting all mixed up with just the 2.4 ghz being broadcast from the Linksys??? Both 2.4 & 5 ghz are broadcasting the same SSID.
    Any help appreciated.

OK - fixed this now. By setting the 5 Ghz channel on the AEBS to a different SSID and putting this to the top of my priority WIFI connections on the MacBook Pro then it ignores the conflict between the 2.4 Ghz networks being broadcast by the Linksys & AEBS. No more hanging connection when I resume the MBP

  • Connecting the MacBook to a Samsung HD TV - Confused !!!

    Hi Guys,
Waiting for my new Alluminium MACBOOK and I am totally confused over the issue of connecting it to my Samsung 37 inch 2 year old HD TV.
This is what I have on the back of the TV ........
DV IN - Audio R L (Red and White)
    HDMI/DVI IN - Thin Slit
    DIGITAL AUDIO OUT (Optical)
    PC IN / Audio
OK, so the question is what cables do I need to get the best picture being transferred from my MacBook to my TV because I am totally confused if I need to get one or two and which ones?
I pressume the HDMI /DVI IN will give a better picture ???
ALso, can I play any files from my MacBook onto my TV then, for example home made movies and my own DVD's etc.
Hope you can answer this one for me. I have looked at some other posts but have been totally confused by them.
    Thanks Guys

I have tried playing a movie but the screen then goes blank and nothing happens.
Going forward, the trend is going to be that you will have to buy a separate copy of the media for each display device you own.
Apple's new MacBook lines includes a form of digital copy protection that will prevent protected media, such as DRM-infused iTunes movies, from playing back on devices that aren't compliant with the new priority protection measures.
The Intel-developed technology is called High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP) and aims to prevent copying of digital audio and video content as it travels across a variety of display connectors, even if such copying is not in violation of fair use laws.
Among the connectors supported by the technology are the Mini DisplayPort found on Apple's latest MacBook, MacBook Pro, and MacBook Air, in addition to others such as Digital Visual Interface (DVI), High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI), Gigabit Video Interface (GVIF), and Unified Display Interface (UDI).
Apple has apparently acquired a license for the technology and is now using it across its DisplayPort-enabled MacBook lines to to prevent transmission of purchased iTunes content to devices that don't include support for HDCP.

A basic MBA will be more than adequate.  Take into consideration that storage may be a long term issue unless you are not averse to traveling with an external HDD.

If you didn't purchase the extended warranty, AppleCare, you are not entitled to any repairs free of charge once the 1 year warranty expires.

  • Charging confusion of Macbook Pro

i'm really confused. and probably, there would be same topics as to this posted many times. my apology for posting this again.
i have read about Macbook Pro batteries from apple.com. i use to talk to many people and ask about batteries which brought me upto this confusion.
well, my question is, should i charge macbook pro when it's battery is completely drained or it's okay to charge at any time as long as it's not at 100%?
for example, i wanna start charging it while its 60% and make it to 100%. is there any problem with it?
one guy came to me and said that, don't charge it until battery reaches to 5 or 10 percent.

Back in the days, older laptops came with Ni-Cad batteries that needed to be fully drained before you charge them back to life to avoid what they call a memory effect - a very long explaination.
Then came NiMh type batteries that are a little better than Ni-Cad batteries and gave you better battery life but you must also charge it when it's almost fully drained.  Still have what they called memory effect - hence the " only charge it when it's close to 10% left.
Lithium Ion came a few years later that performed much better than both previous batteries and are still being used by PC notebooks and some older powerbooks.  But once in a while, you still have to do some battery maintenance to keep it in peak performance.
MB uses Lithium Polymer batteries that last longer and doesn't need as much maintenance as the above 3 batteries.  You can leave it plugged in or you can recharge then anytime you want and not have too much effect on it's performance.
That is the short version of it.
Hope that helps you a bit......

To check your model go to About This Mac (by clicking on the Apple icon, top left) and then select more info. If you wish to use mirroring you will need one from 2011 or later running OSX 10.8 or later. The alternative would be to use 3rd party software like Airparrot.

  • Macbook vs Macbook Pro - confused

Was going to buy my daughter a Macbook. Bump it up to 4GB of RAM and add Apple Care. Total cost: £1,020.00
Then I checked out the 13" Macbook Pro. Comes with 4GB of RAM by default. Comes with 320 GB storage by default (Macbook comes with 250 by default). Cost of the Pro with AppleCare is £1,107.60
Now here's why I'm confused. For just £87.60 more I get a more powerful machine but is also lighter?? It's the lighter part that's really surprised me. I would have expected the Pro to weigh more. The Macbook weighs in at 4.7 lbs. The 13" Pro weighs in at 4.5 lbs.
I would have expected the Pro's casing to be heavier than the standard Macbook. Just trying to figure out why anyone would go with a Macbook if for such a small amount more you get a better machine all around. Am I missing something or is this just all by design, ie Apple's way of getting those who compare to pony up that little more?

    Lucky daughter, indeed.
There are two other differences between the two machines that are worth considering. (1) The video quality of the MBP is significantly better than the MB, with an image that's brighter and seems to have more detail. (2) The MBP's aluminum casing is thinner and lighter than a polycarbonate MB, and the aluminum resists dirt and scuffs somewhat better.
If you purchase a '10 generation MBP on refurb on the Apple Store, you should be able to save even more, while avoiding the heat issues of the '11 generation MBP. And you get a full warranty.
