Macbook connected to a 15" TV gives a widescreen display...

I just purchased a mini-DVI to video adapter for my Macbook. I have connected to it to a good-but-not-great TV, a Panasonic 15-inch TV, about three years old. It is not HDTV, it is not widescreen. Nothing fancy. Just a normal TV with audio/video inputs.
Anyway, it works and everything, and the Macbook seems to auto-adjust itself when it senses the adapter plugged into it, however, the output on the TV is still widescreen. On the Macbook display, widescreen is fine, but on the TV, widescreen display means that I have scroll all the way to the right to see everything horizontally.
How can I make the Macbook display in 4:3 on my TV so that I don't have to scroll to the right to see everything?

Look under preferences at your display settings. You should have a separate control window for each display. Try changing the resolution for the external display/TV.

I'd simply call the nearest Apple retail store and ask. Folks here are end-users like you so, unless one of us had actually seen that variation in a store, we would not know what Apple's inventory policy looks like.

Macbook connects, but iMac doesn't

My AX is plugged directly into the cable modem. My MacBook connects fine when I have my AX set to Bridge Mode in the Airport Utility. But my iMac doesn't connect. Instead, the status in the iMac's Network Prefs just says "Airport has a self-assigned IP address and may no be able to connect to the Internet."
If I change the Airport Utility setting to "Share a public IP address" it shows that two clients are connected, and both the iMac and MacBook network prefs show "AirPort is connected to CowPie and has the IP address 10.0.1.x" But neither computer connects to the internet.
I've reset the modem and the AirPort Express multiple times, as well as reset the AX to factory mode and recreated the network in AirPort Utility; no luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Also, even when I get the MacBook to connect, the AX still flashes amber.

Some cable modems have a small internal battery which must be removed to completely reset the cable modem.
Sometimes cable modems must be left for hours or even overnight to reset the equipment back at the ISP.
Sometimes ISPs record the MAC address of your computer and will only allow that device to connect. If that is the case you would need to give them the Ethernet MAC address of the AirPort Express (AX).

MacBook Connection to Home Network

I have my MacBook connecting to my wireless router pretty well, signal is always good and internet is fine. However, getting (and sometimes keeping) a network connection to my XP desktop is proving frustrating.
Accessing Finder>Network I sometimes only get Library and Servers, other times I'll find a folder for my home network as well as two other folders called 'My Network' and 'Workgroup'. I'm assuming these are default folders, because when I try to delete them I get an error message saying that I don't have sufficient privileges. If I don't, then who does?? I'm the only account on there and am obviously the administrator.
Also, I can access my XP shared files from the Mac (when I see the network) but when looking at My Network Places on XP I don't see the Mac under the workgroup computers. I get a SharedDocs folder for the Mac under 'The Internet' not under 'Local Network' and when I double-click it a dialog box says Connect to MacBook and asks me for a user name and password.
Which seems fair enough, except that any user name I give it gets an error message saying '\\MacBook\SharedDocs is not accessible' and 'The network path was not found'. I'm only using one password on OSX for admin functions and don't have a password set up for communications between machines. No combination of any user name or short name and password or none gets a connection.
Am I being really dim and overlooking something extremely simple here or has anyone else experienced this sort of issue?

Jay, we did use a USB SATA external HD case for the old HD, downloaded it to a special folder in Documents, but apparently, not all of the data was moved. We cannot find her data files (Excel, etc.). Also, when we look at the old drive as an external, we cannot see the data. The applications are there, but cannot find data. We even used Find to look for them, and nothing was found.
What is Migration Assistant? Is that part of the OS 10.6 applications menu? Or do we need to download it? Thanks for your advice and help.

When trying to work with Agilent 34401A multimeter (serial RS-232 connection), HP34401A Getting Started.vi gives always the message: "Error 1073807369 occurred at Old VISA Open ".

Baud rate and parity are set correctly, RS-232 cable is also connected correctly. My QuickBasic program has no problems to read and write to the Multimeter. It is obviously a software problem: the same error is persistent if I disconnect RS-232 cable.
I downloaded NI-VISA 2.6 for Windows 95/98/NT/ME/2000/XP frorm digital.ni.com and installed it. But it did not help.

no, you’d need a Thunderbolt-to-FireWire adapter or Thunderbolt-to-USB adapter to be able to access your Thunderbolt hard drive from your 2008 MacBook Pro.

Macbook Connection to Sharp Projector

Can anyone recommend which cables I need to connect a Macbook to a Sharp PG-M15X Projector please?
I've tried all sorts of mini DVI, DVI and VGA combinations and it still says 'No Signal'. I've looked on countless forums and they all seem to contradict each other!

Macbook connection to aquos sharp

Hello,
I have tried connecting my Macbook to my sharp aquos tv via DVI and eventhough my mac picks up the sharp, there is no image on the tv. I have changed resolutions, restarted, tried changing the analog pc to digital pc but for some reason it is not allowing me to. Any ideas?

2011 macbook connecting to projector

i have an 2010/2011 Macbook Pro and I'm trying to connect it to a project.
Last time I connected to a projector it just started up (2011) this time I have been trying to connect it and nothing happens.
below is my Displays screen where you'll see there is no "Detect Displays" button.

Macbook connection to cimena display

I have this display http://support.apple.com/kb/SP110, and a 13 inch macbook. I have all of the appropriate adaptors to connect the two, but I'm still noat able to make it work. When I power up the monitor, the light behind the button glows, then fades, then disapears. (it takes about a second for all of this to happen) Do you think my problem is with the power supply to the monitor, the monitor itself, or is there a third problem I'm not thinking of.... something with the laptop maybe. I feel a little foolish for how much money I've put into this work around, when I could have probably picked up a referbished macbook.

I just ran into the same exact problem a few days ago after a round of updates (SMC firmware update 1.6, Safari, Remote Desktop Client update and an iTunes update) and reboot on my 13-inch (early 2011) MacBook Pro running OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G63). My display is an old 22" (M8149) cinema display that still works exceptionally well when using an Apple DVI to ADC adapter. When adding a typical Apple Mini-DVI to DVI adapter to that, everything consistently works perfectly fine with my old black MacBook, ruling out the possibility of it being a display/ADC hardware problem. However, when I swap the mini-DVI to DVI adapter with a Thunderbolt to DVI adapter and connect it to the MacBook Pro, the computer recognizes the added display and everything works as it should (including the blue screen), but the display is black and the power light is not on. The current Thunderbolt firmware is v1.0. There was an firmware update released (v1.1) for "an issue with MacBook Pro (mid 2012) and some Thunderbolt cables that may prevent bus-powered Thunderbolt devices from functioning properly." This update never appeared on my updates list, but I had to wonder if might resolve the issue. I just happen to have a mid-2012 as well. Thunderbolt firmware v1.0 gave me the same exact results as I got with the early 2011 so I updated the firmware to v1.1 and crossed my fingers. After rebooting and a bit of plugging/unplugging, etc., nothing changed. The display is still being recognized by the computer, but the screen is still black.
My setup worked fine until the most recent updates were applied, so I know the combination is possible. I suppose it could be a coincidence, but after everything I've tried, the odds seem pretty slim. I'm not really sure what to do at this point, and I'm sure there are several others out there with the same problem, so I hope this draws some attention to the matter.

If your Router supports WPA, please use that instead of WEP. WEP is known to be insecure, it can be cracked by an experienced person in just a few minutes using network analysis tools.
