Macbook Connected to External Monitor is Blurry

I have connected my Santa Rosa MB to my 22 inch Dell monitor and chose mirror mode. The macbook detected the monitor and set the res to the monitors native resolution but the image is blurry, not all sharp like when I connect my PC to it. I'm connected via DVI, btw. Is it blurry because of limitations of the video card? Or am I missing a setting somewhere? Thanks.

Yes it is a limitation of the video card. In mirror mode you are stuck with the maximum resolution the MacBook monitor uses so that limits what the external can do. If you check your displays settings you should see both of them are at 1280 X 800 and if you try to change the external it gets funky. Or should I say mine does in Mirror mode. I always use extended mode for this reason. Much better quality picture.

  • Macbook Pro Retina External Monitor Blurry

Just got a new macbook pro retina and got it home. After getting everything transferred over from my old toshiba I connected it to my 1 month old HP external monitor and the display is blurry. I have read on many sites that this is a common problem however I can not find a solution. I am hook up from HDMI to HDMI. O don't really want to go through trial and error of different adapter for the lightning port if that will not work. I have tried different HDMI cables to no success. Any Ideas?

    Hi AO1 James,
If I understand correctly, the external monitor was blurry from the moment you plugged it into your MacBook Pro with Retina display. I would first check the resolution settings for the monitor with the "How do I select additional resolutions on my display?" section of the following article:
Apple computers: Troubleshooting issues with video on internal or external displays
If it remains blurry after selecting your monitors optimal resolution, I would use the steps under the "Reset the system" section of the article to help troubleshoot the issue.

I connected an external monitor to my MacBook Pro, but it doesn't open any programs. It Just sits there with a blank screen.  How do I get it to open programs and act like a monitor?

    Dear Jean:
It sounds like you are trying to get your external monitor to act as the primary viewing screen. For example it would have your Doc, Icons, Etc. In order to make the external monitor the primary screen you have to:
    Open System Preferences.
    Choose the Displays Icon
There will be several tabs to choose from pick Arrangement
Drag the toolbar to desired display
Let me know if this helps at all!

  • Difficulty connecting my external monitor to my macbook.

I'm having difficulty connecting my external monitor (Acer) to my macbook.
At first, It worked fine. Then, about 2ish months later, it stopped working.
Now, when I hook the external monitor up both monitors start flashing a blue screen.
I thought it was because my adapter broke but I bought a new one and the problem still persisted.
I hooked the external monitor up to a pc laptop and it worked just fine.
    Any suggestions????????

What Macbook Pro do you have? Does it have an HDMI port? Does it have a minidisplay port? If it has an HDMI port get an HDMI cable. If it has a Mini display port get a mini display port to HDMI adapter and an HDMI cable.
Does ypour monitor have other than an HDMI port such as a DVI port?

  • Adapter needed to connect to external monitor

I'm trying to connect my macbook to an external monitor. I ordered a VGA Display Adapter but it doesn't fit in the mini-dvi port on my notebook. So I ordered a mini-dvi to VGA adapter, but the pictures I've seen of this adapter do not look like what I need. Can any typical monitor with the typical monitor plug, plug into the mini-dvi to VGA adapter or is there another adapter out there that I'm missing?
    help
    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

The mini-DVI to VGA adapter should do the trick -- you just plug the mini-DVI into your MacBook and connect a VGA cable to the VGA adapter and your monitor. I use that adaptor to connect to the VGA cable running to the VGA port of a projector and it works just fine.

  • How to turn off display while connected to external monitor??

I'm running my macbook into an external monitor, using wireless mouse and keyboard. I want to get full power from my graphics card so would like to know how to turn the macbook screen off while connected to the larger monitor. I have read that simply closing the lid and then waking it with the mouse will work, however wont this activate the screen as well while the lids closed? Any advice would be great!
    Thanks
    Phil

    Hi Philip
    here is the link:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300562
And it won't turn the built screen on since macbook has sensor to prevent it turn on while it closed.
    Good Luck.

  • Macbook pro retina external monitor mouse skipping, lag problem

When I plug my macbook pro retina (Lion) into a 24" monitor through the DVI adaptor, the cursor jumps erratically every ~10 seconds when being moved. • Possible to connect an external monitor to HP Pavilion dv4t-4200 CTO Entertainment Notebook PC

I have a HP Pavilion dv4t-4200 CTO Entertainment Notebook PC model # A1M02AV and it has a VGA port, one that looks like a phone/broadband cable port, and one that looks like a USB port but indented on either side at the bottom. Can I even connect an external monitor? How do I find out if I have more than 1 video card? Besides the usual USB/headphone ports, I don't have any other ports. It says my drivers are up to date...but I don't even know what I should be looking for. Do I need to install something or buy some sort of adapter?
I am trying to connect a Dell external montitor via the VGA port with a VGA cable. The monitor has power but my notebook does not recognize/detect it. However, when I first plugged it in, my notebook display shrank into a square (vs the whole screen) so it recognized something...but nothing happened on the external monitor.
I tried detecting it via my display settings, but  I accidentally changed some dispaly setting so that the home desktop only shows on monitor 1, but unselected my actual notebook display or something or changed it to be monitor 2 (even though monitor 1 does not exist), so when I plug the cable in to my notebook, all of a sudden my desktop goes away and it's a just a blank background screen - and I cannot access the computer display settings or anything.... when the cable is unplugged this setting looks normal, so I can't figure out how to fix it.
Sorry, I have no idea what I'm doing here - please help!

    Hi,
All Dell monitors come with CD's for drivers. Your laptop may not know the monitor w/o its driver, it won't install automatically. Please check:
Ringht click a blank space on desktop,
    Click Personalize
    Click Display
    Click Change display settings
Can you see BOTH laptop screen and external monitor in there as shown on the following image:
For testing, I put my Dell monitor is my main display. If I can't see 2 monitor, you need its driver first and then check the cable.
    Regards.

  • Connect two external monitors to mini DP(using a mini DP to VGA adapter) and the VGA out at once

I am trying to  connect two external monitors to mini DP(using a mini DP to VGA adapter) and the VGA out at once. Windows recognize both monitors as well. But it dowsn't let me use all three monitors at once(see the below image). In the dropdown, it lists all three monitors. Problem is there are two active displays I can select.

The GPU(s) in your T400 (and most other laptop brands) will support two different displays concurrently.  If you want to support more than two different displays concurrently, you will need another GPU external to the T400.
Generally, if you want to use two external displays on a T400 you will nee dto use a docking station.
I have read messages on various fora on this topic and know that there are a number of ways of doing this, but as I have never had a need to do this myself I can't tell you how to go about it.
