Macbook crashes when installing yosemite

I have been trying to install Yosemite and it will download without a problem, but when I attempt to install it, my Macbook Pro immediately crashes. I've had my computer completely swiped (E&I) at the Apple Store who was supposed to update me to Yosemite, but I found out they didn't, and actually backed me up to 10.8.5 instead of the 10.9.5 I was operating before taking it in. It was also taken in because when I was running Photoshop or Word, my computer would randomly crash as well. The crash report for Yosemite is below:

Is anybody else experiencing crashes when installing iTunes for Windows?

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box (similar to those given above) are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

  • Wifi keeps dropping out on MacBook Pro after installing Yosemite

Wifi keeps dropping out on MacBook Pro after installing Yosemite. This is not good.  Apparently, a lot of people are having this issue with Yosemite.  Any suggestions for my MacBook Pro?  It's bad enough that Yosemite looks so boring, but to have a major issue like constantly disconnecting from wifi is deplorable.
I plan to keep Mavericks on my iMac until this issue is resolved.

  • Crash when installing Oracle9i on Windows

If you have a crash when installing oracle9i on Win 2000
(for example The instruction at "0x77fca30c" referenced memory blah blah blah), the problem could be your classpath.
Try the following in a command window:
cd Disk1 (or wherever you have unzipped oracle)
    set CLASSPATH=
    setup
I guess it is a bug in the installer. I didn't try to isolate it, my classpath is too big!

I just checked this again, at work, on my 2000 machine. I changed my locale to saudia arabia and that resulted in the alignment you mentioned earlier. I switched it back to its default english - united states and the alignment is no loner at the right.
In addition to that my nls_lang setting is :
    AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8MSWIN1252
Note though, that simply changing the locale did it for me, regardless of my nls_lang setting.

  • Crash when installed on system that formerly had Pinnacle hardware

Encore 2.0 (but not 1.5) consistantly crashes when installed on a
system which has the RALcodec codec installed (My system is a dual 2.8 Ghz Xeon Dell under Windows XP SP2). This codec is installed by a variety of Pinnacle hardware installations such as the DC-1000 and DC-2000. It remains active on the system even after removal of these devices. The symptom is an Application Error after about 20 minutes and the usual offer to send info to Microsoft, even if Encore is simply opened and a empty project created.
The solution is to rename the Ralcodec and associated files:
    Cachex.dll
    FXlib.dll
    MedMan.dll
    MLPagAX.dll
    RALCodec.dll
    RALCtrl.cpl
    RALMain.dll
from the C:\Windows\system32 directory, reboot and then delete them.
Of course your DC-2000 won't work anymore but that is probably not
    an issue.
Some other details in case anyone cares: The Pinnacle software
is loaded by Encore because Encore enumerates all installed
codecs. When loaded, the Pinnacle software
creates a hidden window called AudioInputWnd and then listens
for various Windows messages on this window. This processing
goes on in the background while Encore is running and eventually
results in the app crash. Note that 3 years ago, when using
Premiere 6.5 with the Pinnacle DC-2000 I used to get occasional
crashes when exiting Premiere. The error message displayed at
that time referenced AudioInputWnd as well. So it appears
that even back then, with Premiere 6.5, there was a problem with the Pinnacle software.
The crash of Encore 2.0 doesn't produce a message explicitly
referencing AutioInputWnd but under Windbg you can
see that the software is dispatching a message received from that
window's queue. When RALcodec is removed, the AudioInputWnd
is not even created anymore when Encore is run.
I would note that Adobe support was unable to solve this problem and
suggested the usual unhelpful littany of reinstallation of Encore and
to update the video drivers when I first called it in 3 months ago. Another person, Dave Shriver also reported essentially identical problems in the Encore forum back in Februrary. The root cause appears to have actually existed in the Adobe certified bundle of Premiere 6.0/6.5 with the DC-2000 before resurfacing in the present form with Encore 2.0.

The simplest way to reinstall iPhoto and iMovie is to download Pacifist and then extract the relevant applications from the Software Restore Discs.
Pacifist comes with instructions; this is not a difficult operation and there is no need for erase & install to recover the applications.
Pacifist is Shareware, but you need not pay the fee in order to use it. Every time that you open Pacifist you will be prompted to purchase a licence. If you feel that Pacifist is worth the money (and I think that it is), you can purchase a licence at any stage.
If you're a plonker like me, then purchasing a licence will provide justification for third party developers like CharlesSoft to save the day for the rest of us.
    Good luck!

  • Crash when opening Yosemite OSx installer and Adobe Bridge and Photoshop CS6

    Hi,
I'm having increasing problems with my Mac Book Pro. It crashes when opening Adobe Bridge CS6, Photoshop CS6 and now when trying to install the Yosemite operating system.  There is no error code associated with the crash but the error report is below:

I've cleaned up my hard drive and am running 8GB RAM with plenty of memory.  Also scanned the disk for errors etc.  No luck.
Does anyone have any suggestions on what's going wrong?
    Thanks.
MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Mavericks (10.9.5)

I have the exact same problem, also running OS X Machericks 10.9.5 on a Mac Book Pro, would be really helpful to understand how to fix this error.

  • Firefox crashes after installing Yosemite

I installed Yosemite last night and almost the first thing I noticed was that Firefox would crash when it opened.  I loaded it into safe mode and removed all my add-ons hoping that might help, but it still crashes.  I uninstalled it as well, but I'm still getting the crashes.  I have the latest version installed, but for now I can't use it much unless it's in safe mode.  Has anybody had the same issue, or would anybody have any suggestions on what the issue might be?
I'm using an iMac running Yosemite 10.10 with a 2.8 GHz Intel Core 7 processor with 32 GB of RAM.  Firefox is version 33.0.
Thanks for any and all help.
    Mike

Here is what helped for me:
I created a new profile by backing up
    /Users/myname/Library/Application\ Support/Firefox/Profiles
    simply by adding ".bak":
    /Users/myname/Library/Application\ Support/Firefox/Profiles.bak
    and restarting Firefox.
    It worked fine.
Then I stepwise copied back my places, keys etc as listed in
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/recovering-important-data-from-an-old-profi le#w_your-important-data-and-their-files
On my way I found that all the hangs and forced shutdowns had destroyed my places.sqlite - when I finally recovered the original file copying it from my HD-Backup it worked perfectly fine.
Afterwards I started reinstalling addons. noscript, adblock plus, greasemonkey worked so far, I'll check for the rest of them later.

  • Anyone experiencing multiple crashes since installing yosemite? I use logic 9 software most of the time for recording.

Hi, Im experiencing multiple crashes on my macbook pro. I have recently (past 2 weeks) installed yosemite. Could this have something to do with it?
I use logic pro 9 all day every day but am finding it very difficult to record with a constantly unstable mac! It just cuts out and restarts itself.
    Any ideas?
    Mike.

Mike, I would say Yosemite has -everything- to do with it. Logic 9 has several known problems with Yosemite.
You should not upgrade the OS without first checking boards like this one, the only solution for Logic 9 users is to roll back the operating system to whatever you were using that was stable. (Logic-X isn't so great in Yosemite either).
Because stability is important to me I'm using Snow Leopard and Logic 9,1,5, and my upgrade to Logic 9.1,5 was only a few month ago.

  • Macbook crashes when internet connection is lost from cable modem

for the last couple of weeks Comcast internet has been failing at almost the same time every day - around 10am. i have spoken with them and they know they have a major problem in the area. the issue i have is that my MacBook Pro, when the internet goes down, completely crashes shutting itself down & restarting with that multi-language message that my 'computer has had a problem.' i have run every diagnostic, Disk Utility Repair, deleted applications, used Wifi, used ethernet, on and on and on...
most of the time, i cannot even restart the MacBook. if i disconnect ethernet or turn off WiFi - no problem. it goes through the startup flawlessly.
one other strange thing happening is i have two websites that will never completely load. no problem on the iPad or iPhone 6, only the MacBook. but these websites don't have to be open when the crash happens.
any ideas? i am running Yosemite 10.10.1. oh, and it happens when i am running Safari, Chrome or Foxfire, though it seems to happen a lot more since the last Safari update. thanks...

    OK, for sake of argument:
    1. Quit Safari
    2. Check the ownership and permissions of Home -> Library -> Safari folder and write those down (click once on the folder and select Get Info from the File menu, and make sure the triangle is dropped down on Ownership and Permissions so all the privileges are shown).
    3. Drag Home -> Library -> Safari to the desktop
    4. Reopen Safari
See if the issue reproduces itself. If the issue doesn't reproduce itself, then it is something corrupt in the Safari info for your user. If it does reproduce itself, something is wrong with your user level internet settings or possibly Corefoundation settings which Safari is sensitive to.
You can always quit Safari and move back that folder to where it came from and make sure the permissions are retained.

  • Macbook slow since installing Yosemite

    Problem description:
Since upgrading to Yosemite, my Macbook is very slow, especially when trying to open webpages.  I installed Yosemite because I bought my daughter an iPad and had to upgrade to Yosemite in order to do the Family Share thing.  Ever since, my Macbook has been incredibly slow (no issues with any other of our Apple devices or with using my work-issued PC, so it's not my WiFi connection).  I'm wondering if there's a bunch of junk on my system--I use it mostly for email, internet and storing photos and I see all the things in my EtreCheck that were "killed due to memory pressure."  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.
Here are the results of my EtreCheck:

Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:
    1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
        b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
    4. Reinstall Yosemite: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall OS X from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.
    5. Reinstall Yosemite from Scratch:
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
How to Clean Install OS X Yosemite
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • After upgrading to OS lion 10.8.2 my macbook crashed when upgrading iPhoto, Aperture and MS Office. has anyone simular problems?

since I did an upgrade yesterday (sept 20th 12) my macbook crashed and does an autoantic restart when doing a upgrade. It occurs doing so for iPhoto, MSoffice or Aperture.
Can someone help me on this issue?

My late 2009 13" Macbook is now very laggy. For example, the cursor won't respond until many seconds after I place a finger on the touchpad. When I use the keyboard to increase or decrease volume or screen brightness, there is a noticeable lag between my inputs and what I see. Every time I pause between typing words, I find the keyboard won't respond until I wait a few more seconds. This is very disappointing. I need to roll back until Apple are able to look into any potential issues. I didn't have any such problems prior to upgrade.

It really bugs me as I cannot connect my iPhone anymore.

Many people with 2wire access points have confided problems with connectivity. Most often it is remedied by doing a firmware update to the wireless router, but most employees do not have the authority to do that sort of thing. If you have a computer tech, ask him or her if they could visit the 2wire website and do any firmware updates which the wireless router hasn't had. Realize that this may or may not cure your problem, many who have updated to OS 10.4.10 have experienced continued problems with connectivity, probably because of mismatches in the "standard specifications" of wireless connectivity.
