MacBook "Crashing" Issues
I am currently running a MacBook Core Duo 2.0 13 inch. It was purchased in June of 2006 and has had the hard drive replaced by Apple within the last year. (Just a quick summary!)
This evening, I closed my MacBook to take it to a different room. When I opened it back up and tried to wake it up from sleep, my desktop came up momentarily and then went back to "sleep". The computer wouldn't turn off, wake back up, etc. I eventually was forced to remove the battery to get anything to happen with the computer.
When I hooked everything back up and powered the computer up again, everything loaded fine. When I logged in to my user name and started to open Firefox up, the screen turned to an almost checkerboard-like pattern (alternating with black boxed mixed with my actual background.) I again turned the computer off, and this is when everything started going wrong...
- Disk would begin to run, but the computer would restart it several times (never actually saw the main start up screen, just black)
- Grey screen with three beeps and sleep light flashing
- Start up tone skipping and playing repeatedly until turned off
- Some restarts would be by either pushing/holding the power button or having to remove the battery
- Was able to make it to my desktop twice more, but once the computer just turned off and the second time the screen turned to pixelated columns
This went on for about an hour before I gave up. Again, I don't believe it is a hard drive issue since I can still occasionally access my files (after letting the computer sit for several minutes.) I was told it could be a RAM issue, but I haven't been able to find anything similar. I am not near an Apple store and my AppleCare plan is up anyway, so was trying to find an option before taking it in! Thank you in advance for any help you can give.

Your machine may be under the now defunct battery exchange program. If the battery looks warped, or the issue is happening only when the battery is in your computer, that may be worth taking a look into.

since I did an upgrade yesterday (sept 20th 12) my macbook crashed and does an autoantic restart when doing a upgrade. It occurs doing so for iPhoto, MSoffice or Aperture.
Can someone help me on this issue?My late 2009 13" Macbook is now very laggy. For example, the cursor won't respond until many seconds after I place a finger on the touchpad. When I use the keyboard to increase or decrease volume or screen brightness, there is a noticeable lag between my inputs and what I see. Every time I pause between typing words, I find the keyboard won't respond until I wait a few more seconds. This is very disappointing. I need to roll back until Apple are able to look into any potential issues. I didn't have any such problems prior to upgrade.

Problem: My Macbook crashes and reboots when I watch You Tube or other video content or when I do video chat sessions (e.g., Google Hangouts). It doesn't crash every single time I watch a video or do a chat, but it does crash often and unpredictably. Sometimes it'll crash directly after I have rebooted. When it crashes, the screen suddenly goes black, and the laptop restarts itself. It happens on both Chrome and Safari browsers.
Background:
I've had the laptop 7 years, but the problem started only recently. My hard drive was failing, so I had to install a new one. The hard drive upgrade required me to install Snow Leopard from the CD onto the new drive, restore my data from my Time Machine external disk, and use System Update to install all patches. I did all of this, and the laptop is generally running well, except for video content. I also deleted and reinstalled the Chrome and Adobe Flash applications, but that has not helped.

Solve the JavaFX crashing issue (libjogl.jnilib) on Mac Snow Leopard
This is what happening to me and how did it get fixed.
This issue concerns running JavaFX programs on Mac machines with Snow Leopard installed.
Here is the story.
I have two Mac machines: one is MacBook and the other is [Mac mini|http://www.apple-history.com/body.php?page=gallery&model=mac_mini_early_09&sort=date&performa=off&order=ASC]. Before I installed Snow Leopard, JavaFX programs were good at both machines. After upgrading to Snow Leopard, every JavaFX program on my MacBook crashed with messages saying that "libjogl.jnilib" causing an bad memory access. But they are still all good on my Mac mini. It's very annoying because if I accidentally went to a page with JavaFX applets on it, Safari got killed.
I think there might be something wrong in my MacBook so I backup my data and did a clean install of Snow Leopard. Things remain unchanged. It still crashes all the time. Can't figure out why.
So, I decided to get rid of the cause directly. I tried to search "libjogl.jnilib" on the disk but found that it is downloaded by need (one of the Java Web Start mechanisms), not a pre-existing file in the system. That is why reinstalling the system did not help.
Then I went to the JOGL sample page, running a few samples through Java Web Start. They are good on my MacBook! So I compared the .jnlp files of the problematic JavaFX programs and JOGL samples. I found that if I put
<extension name="jogl-all-awt" href="http://download.java.net/media/jogl/jsr-231-2.x-webstart/jogl-all-awt.jnlp" />in the .jnlp files of JavaFX programs, they will get healthy "libjogl.jnilib" and run good. Hooray!
But I can't intervene in every JavaFX execution this way. So I download the latest JOGL binary, put them (.jar and .jnilib files) under "/System/Library/Java/Extensions/". Everything is fine now.kmacdona wrote:

I am still wondering why JavaFX is okay on my Mac mini. Maybe what happened to my MacBook is an extremely corner case because I can hardly find any other one seeing the same problem when I tried to google "crash", "libjogl.jnilib", "javafx", such keywords. -
MacBook crashes several times a day

My MacBook crashes several times a day. It usually happens when the screensaver is on. Once it has crashed, it displays multicolored twinkling lines and it does not respond to anything but the power button to switch it off.
I checked every log file in Console.app and did not find anything logged.
So I had it repaired, just got it back (they changed the motherboard) but it still crashes.
Before I bring it back, again (and they change the motherboard, again ?), anyone has any idea on what could be the real reason of these crashes ?

Ben.Ah, so the "multicolored twinkling lines" display is a prominent point you do have showing up. An appointment with that evidence in hand is necessary.
There is an advantage to running the Apple Hardware Test prior to going in, so that you can report the results. Any report at all by the Test indicates a flaw or failure of some sort, and is likely to result in immediate action of some sort by Apple. Without the Test results, you usually must rely upon duplicating the problem, or at least the symptom, which at least you now have with your photo.
Hopefully, you have backed up any saved data that is important to you. Backing up the OS is not important, as it will be replaced if the logic board, video component, or even the entire unit, is replaced.
I know it's a lot to ask in these times, but if you don't have one, it might be worth it to get portable (2.5-inch) USB storage for back-up. I got a good one with lots more space than my MacBook has (so I can back up everything at once) at Costco under $100, and I'm sure you can find the same most anywhere.
If set up correctly, a USB backup can be used to boot an Intel-based Mac, which can be very useful for diagnostic purposes, as booting from it will quickly differentiate a hardware-based from software-based issue. Good luck. -
Retina MacBook Pro Issues Since Updating To Yosemite

I have the early 2013 15 Inch Retina MacBook Pro (2.4Ghz i7, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD) and ever since I updated to Yosemite I have had many issues which are becoming serious problems.
Problem 1) 9/10 times the laptop will not turn off when shut down is pressed. The Finder disappears, the dock stays put and then does nothing. I have to manually hold the power button to get the laptop to turn off.
Problem 2) Audio issues. I have an external Audio Interface that I use for recording and playback through my studio monitors. Randomly when I'm watching videos the audio of the video will slow down so the audio sounds lowered in pitch while the video stays the same speed. While I'm listening to music through iTunes there have been occasions where the music has actually sped up at least 10x of it's original speed.
Problem 3) Connecting to Apple TV's crashes my computer. At college we have Apple TV's that we can connect Macs and iPads to to showcase work and when I connect my MacBook to it, the Macbook crashes and has to be forced rebooted.
Problem 4) The computer is just generally slower. When browsing files in the finder and using applications such as iMovie the computer is noticeably slower than when before upgraded.
I have tried contacting Apple support but was told that I had to purchase an incident report for £25. After spending £1800 on a Laptop I'm not paying £25 just to talk to someone. Has anyone had these issues? Any fixes?
Thanks!Well, if your Contacts have disappeared, then under System Preferences, click on iCloud and make sure you are signed into iCloud. If you are not, sign in. If you are, sign out and then back in to see if that restores your contacts.
I take it you have already restarted your Mac? If not, do that as well.

2. Please open Control Panel, select User Accounts and click Manage another account. Then select the user account which you will use in WMIC command. Then please select Change
the account type and check if you have set it as Administrator. If no, please set it as Administrator and check if this issue still persists.

Macbook crashes when Onkyo TX-NR509 is turned on
Hi!
My Macbook crashes everytime I switch on my Onkyo receiver which is connected through a mini displayport to hdmi cable. This issue started after upgrading to Mavericks. I already tried to restart the computer into safe mode and reset some cashes (I read about this in another thread) but had no luck with that.
For audio signals I use a mini toslink cable which do not affect the computer so it seems the receiver sends a signal to the computer which causes the crash.
I also attached the crash report. It would be really great if someone could help!

Thunderbolt Bus:Thanks, but it did not work out. However, I figured out that the Mac only crashes when the TV is also on at the same time. The TV is connected via a HDMI cable with the Onkyo receiver. If I only switch on the receiver (having the TV off) the computer logs out but do not crash.
Does this make any sense?

Bought photoshop and gets half way through downloading and my macbook crashes.
I have bought Photoshop after using a trial. I uninstalled the trial and everything to do with it and yet when it comes to downloading Photoshop through creative cloud it gets part way through and my whole macbook crashes. I'm wondering whether this is my macbook or photoshop?

Yes you can use the software to move music and message to your computer - you would need to add the music back to your iTunes media library.

MacBook Crashing when Camcorder connected...
Bought the Insignia 720p HD camcorder from Best Buy. Read that plenty of people have used it with their Macs, albeit they had to download alternative movie editing software etc...
The problem is: When I connect it via USB 2.0 to my MacBook the MacBook crashes. It pops up with a bulletin that states I need to hold down the power button or hit the restart key to reboot my Mac. When I unplug the camcorder and restart, no problems. When I try to restart with the camcorder still plugged in, it states the same every time until I unplug it.

HT1338 my macbook crashes and cant send error report, when i try, it says "error report failed"
My macbook crashes and when I start it again, there's a crash report and I click on send to apple, after a minute or so it says failed to send to apple. It has happened many times and I think it's getting worse since I can't send any reports.

I finished adding my transtions to my timeline. I was having crashing issues so I shut down everything before I rendered the project and now it tells me that the project is unreadable or the file is too new for this version of final cut. What Happened?
What Happened?
No way for us to know. But if your system was crashing, there definitely was a problem. The FCE error message you got normally indicates the FCE project file has been corrupted. This probably happened due to whatever caused your system to crash & shutting down the system.
First, make sure your system is running correctly. Then, use the Finder to navigate to /users/yourusername/Documents/Final Cut Express Documents/Autosave Vault and find the most recent backup copy of your FCE project file. Copy the file to your Final Cut Express Documents folder (copy the file, don't just move it). Then double-click the copy to open it in FCE. It should open ok, but will probably not have your most recent edits (transitions). You may have to rebuild the transitions, but at least you will be back in action. -
Wondershare's iDraft for $2.99 will not update crashing issues due to 4.2!
Wondershare will not update their iDraft App, on the App Store, for compatibility issues due to iOS 4.2! iDraft costs $2.99, and should be pulled from the app store. An app should not be sold, until the issue is addressed. It's wrong, and I want to see some progress, instead of emails saying that we are heading in a different direction... Then return email back saying that we are now working on the issue, and I could get a discount on Wondershare apps...

My macbook crashed, and i want to sync my phone with my new macbook
My Macbook crashed, and with it I lost my entire music library; at least the part that wasn't synced to my iPhone 4S. I purchased a new macbook and would love to transfer the songs FROM my iphone TO my macbook, but I keep getting this message - which I am fearful will erase the precious few songs I did save on the iPhone:
Are you sure you want to remove existing music, movies, TV shows, books, and tones from this iPhone and sync with this iTunes library?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities! I understand that you no longer have the computer that had your iTunes Library stored on it and you want to move what music you still have on your iPhone to your new computer. If the music was purchased from iTunes you can get this music back to your iTunes Library two different ways. You can either transfer purchases from the iPhone to the iTunes Library, or you can just download the music again from the Purchased section of iTunes. I will post the information on both ways to recover your purchased music below. If the music on your iPhone came from a CD or another source (not purchased from iTunes) there would be no way to transfer it to your iTunes Library.
