Hi, gossi.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
Here is a troubleshooting article that I would recommend going through when experiencing this issue.
OS X: When your computer spontaneously restarts or displays "Your computer restarted because of a problem."

2009 Macbook crashes with Yosemite
Upgraded my dad's 2009 white MacBook to Yosemite (had Snow Leopard prior, not Mavericks). Most functions were working but it couldn't see the printer. Tried various things: uninstall/reinstall, disk utility (repaired permissions, repaired disk), cleaned out junk files (or at least attempted to). Tried using CleanMyMac but it won't finish running before it goes into unresponsive mode. Printer would not reinstall - went through all the motions but at the end it would not complete and we had to force quit out. The ONLY thing we have been able to fix is getting the laptop to shut down (before repairing the disk, it would not shut down with holding down the power button). Sorry if this is all over the place, we've been at it for several hours and I'm very frustrated. Open to any suggestions - may just require a trip to the Genius Bar at this point but figured I'd check here first.
OS 10.10.1
MacBook 13" 2009
2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
2GB 1067 MHz DDR3Hello Linc,
My 2010 MBP is having similar issues, Yosemite crashing many times a day. A few times I booted to Safe Mode, from outside of Yosemite, boot then Cmd + R, ran Permissions, fixed a few things, Verify Disk found some errors fixed them then again I ran it all okay. Last resort I reinstalled Yosemite. Still many daily crashes.
My concern is the crashes related to Yosemite, Yosemite conflicting with other software, or is it hardware? Though I do not want to purchase more hardware, however at these crashing rates I may have to.
Following your advice here is my readout:

MacBook Pro: Blank Screen and Random Crashes After Yosemite Update
Hello All!
So I'm living with the regret of updating my MacBook Pro to Yosemite. My MacBook Pro is an early 2011 version, and ever since I updated it - I literally cannot turn off the computer because when I go to turn it on, the screen is completely black. Performing the flashlight trick, the computer eventually lights up, on average three minutes later. However, that's not the only issues I have been having. My computer constantly loses WiFi signal and is crashing every two hours or so. It's not even that I have a lot of programs running; I literally only have Chrome running... So I'm not sure what I should do now. Is it even because of the Yosemite update?! Help please?!Nothing obvious here, but better get rid of that remnant of CleanMyMac2. Also check if all software with kernel extensions, launch agents and launch daemons is still necessary and up to date (if not uninstall or update).

I'm having problems with 8.1 and Continuity / Handoff. It will work fine for web pages, etc. but in email when I try to do it between by iPhone 5s running 8.1 and my Macbook Pro running Yosemite I consistently get an error. "Failed to Continue Activity" Cocoa Error 4609. Handoff is working for phone calls and text messages. By email just crashes each time. It was also doing it under 8.0.2. My iPhone and iPad handle this fine. It's only the MacBook to the iPhone that fails, and only on email.

Can my macbook upgrade to Yosemite?
Just received my used macbook pro I bought for $162 off Ebay and so far it's a great system for that price as it was needed cause my macbook crashed on me during a install of original disc. Anyways to the question I have regarding can my macbook pro upgrade to Yosemite? I already know it's saying I cannot when I try, but it might just be because of my 1GB of RAM so need to upgrade to 2GB of ram. Which leads to the question how exactly do I find the exact RAM required in this system when I don't even know what year model the system is. When I enter the serial number with apple all it say's is this (OBS,MacBook Pro (15-inch Core 2 Duo). It's got Version 10.6.8. Ebay information say's it's a 2006, but I didn't even realize there was macbook pro's that old. Then I looked it up and it said January 10, 2006 release date. So that makes my macbook pro pretty old. Is it enough for what I will use it for? I like to play around with Imovie and using pages and keynote. I don't do any gaming stuff. I also do a lot of online researching so like to be able to run many windows without it getting sluggish.
Should I maybe try and sell this macbook pro at the amount to get my money back and get a model that can easily upgrade to Yosemite? I really want Yosemite since it comes with Iwork programs that I need and I guess something that can upgrade to at least 4GB as this machine not sure it can.
Thanks for your time.Oh and the processor is a DDR2 and not a DDR3 which I imagine shouldn't be an issue for Yosemite upgrade. Could it just be the processor 1GB that needs to be upgraded?

Updated my Macbook Air to Yosemite and now IMessage won't open pictures
I updated my Macbook Air to Yosemite a few days ago and since then IMessage has been acting up. It won't let open pictures now. A picture comes through titled "IMG_2882" but when I click on it, it comes up with a description of the image - the type of image, when it was last modified, etc. I click the 'Open with Preview" option and nothing happens. I'm regretting updating to Yosemite now. Is anyone else having this issue? I have no idea how to fix it. Please let me know if you have any ideas! Thank you!
If it is the third party apps crashing - try downloading another app - any free app is fine. See if that resets the other apps.

My "photo management macbook" crashed and when it was repaired it was upgraded to Yosemite. This macbook is used exclusively for photos using Aperture 2 (I also have a new Pro retina and an older macbook as well, with Yosemite and Lion loaded respectively). I have my photo library on an external drive and it was loaded using Aperture 2. Now I cannot use Aperture, cannot see photos, cannot upgrade to Aperture 3.6 and so cannot migrate photos to another software package, which I am going to have to do this year sometime.
What can I do to get Aperture working and migrate my photos? On Yosemite you can only run Aperture 3.6, but that will not run on Lion.
If you want to get Aperture running on your photo management macbook, restore it to the previous system from the last backup you made before the crash occurred, if you have a full Time Machine backup. If you want to keep the Mac on Yosemite, try to restore the older system to an external drive and boot the Mac from that drive, when you want to work with Aperture 2.
Otherwise your only option would be to buy the upgrade to Aperture 3.6. -
Keeps crashing after Yosemite install - Need thoughts on what to do...
My 2013 Macbook Air keeps crashing after Yosemite install, time between crashes are more random than consistent and it can be anytginh from one hour to 6 hours between crashes. Enclosed the report below with the hope that someone has some tips on what to do here.... I've formatted the computer, reinstalled the OS and checked the drive for errors and I've found nothing so far.
Would be very grateful for any thoughts/tips on what to do here...

Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu.

Thunderbird immediately crashing after Yosemite updgrade
I just upgraded my macbook pro to Yosemite 10.10.1 and not I cannot even start Thunderbird without it crashing....I even deleted the application and downloaded the latests. I'm fearful of deleting my profile and am not that technical. Now I cannot get into some of my email. Thanks in advance for someone who can try and help me.

My macbook crashes and when I start it again, there's a crash report and I click on send to apple, after a minute or so it says failed to send to apple. It has happened many times and I think it's getting worse since I can't send any reports.
What should I do?Hello Firah,
Don't worry or even bother sending the report, Apple doesn't want to hear about 10.5.x at all... if they eer did.
Copy & Paste a few lines here, maybe a couple dozen, we'll take a look. -
I have an Epson printer on a Wifi network. Windows 7 desktop is running the network, and my wife's HP Win 7 laptop prints to it just fine. My MacBook Pro running Yosemite won't detect it, and I do have the latest driver installed. I didn't have a problem when I had a Canon Pixma on the network, but when I replaced it with the Epson nothing seems to work. I go to add a printer to the queue and only the FAX function of the printer shows up - not the WS-4530 print function. Does anyone out there have any suggestions? Please??? :-)
Hi Kelly,
As someone who has to print from my Mac to a networked printer at home all the time, I can certainly understand how frustrating it must be to have that fail to perform as expected. Let's see if we can get you up and running.
I would suggest that you troubleshoot using the steps in this article -
OS X Yosemite: Printing troubleshooting
Start with the section titled Check the network.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

Hello,
I'm trying to install my HP Color LaserJet 2600n (USB) to my new macbook pro with Yosemite ? It detects the printer but when I try to install it, I get the message error : "Can't download the software because of a network problem."
I tried to install the software via the HP website. It's not working.
Can someone help me with this one ?
Thanks,HP Print Drivers

since I did an upgrade yesterday (sept 20th 12) my macbook crashed and does an autoantic restart when doing a upgrade. It occurs doing so for iPhoto, MSoffice or Aperture.
Can someone help me on this issue? My late 2009 13" Macbook is now very laggy. For example, the cursor won't respond until many seconds after I place a finger on the touchpad. When I use the keyboard to increase or decrease volume or screen brightness, there is a noticeable lag between my inputs and what I see. Every time I pause between typing words, I find the keyboard won't respond until I wait a few more seconds. This is very disappointing. I need to roll back until Apple are able to look into any potential issues. I didn't have any such problems prior to upgrade.

I have a mac computer 3.2 Ghz intel core i3 with memory 4GB 1333 MHz DDR3, I have recently purchased an new macbook and have yosemite software and iCloud . I can no longer us my mac to open up recent numbers documents from my macbook. I am unable to upgrade to allow me to get the current numbers version on my mac. What do I need to do to get all my machines woking in harmony again
On each machine turn on iCloud and sync all the available apps. Apple explains how to set up iCloud in http://www.apple.com/icloud/setup/
After doing this run software update on each machine and install all the suggested updates. If you still need help installing the most up-to-date versions of iLife and iWorks open the Mac App Store - click the Purchased tab and update all that need to be updated. -
Problem: My Macbook crashes and reboots when I watch You Tube or other video content or when I do video chat sessions (e.g., Google Hangouts). It doesn't crash every single time I watch a video or do a chat, but it does crash often and unpredictably. Sometimes it'll crash directly after I have rebooted. When it crashes, the screen suddenly goes black, and the laptop restarts itself. It happens on both Chrome and Safari browsers.
Background:
I've had the laptop 7 years, but the problem started only recently. My hard drive was failing, so I had to install a new one. The hard drive upgrade required me to install Snow Leopard from the CD onto the new drive, restore my data from my Time Machine external disk, and use System Update to install all patches. I did all of this, and the laptop is generally running well, except for video content. I also deleted and reinstalled the Chrome and Adobe Flash applications, but that has not helped.

Any suggestions for fixing or diagnosing this issue? Should I take it into an Apple store for them to look at?
