Macbook crashing

There appears to be a problem with my macbook
1wk ago:
-surfing on safari
-then crashed/froze out of nowhere (trackpad moved, but couldnt click)
-force shutdown, then restart --> but then stuck @ blue screen
-reinstalled snow leopard
-updated software, then worked fine for 2wks
Earlier today:
-surfing safari, same thing happened (then stuck @blue screen upon restart(
-resintalled SL
-now, partially working, noticeably slow (but not substantial...has exceptions)
I have forced shut down x10+ times today
System crashes when I use the following:
-"software update" (upon update, system becomes VERY VERY SLOW, then eventually crashes. )
-safari (same response. Page never loads)
-connecting to itunes store
Does not crash when use
-thunderbird
-chrome (using atm)
-word
-...etc
1) Any1 heard of this before?
2) What can I do to diagnose this problem?
3) Anything I should try to help fix this problem?
4) This laptop is 2yrs old, any comments about getting it fixed? (of course, i dont know the problem yet)

Sounds like you could have a hard drive issue there. I would back the drive up and reformat the drive using "Zero out data" under the "Security Options" button in your Disk Utility. Then reinstall your system.

  • HT1338 my macbook crashes and cant send error report, when i try, it says "error report failed"

My macbook crashes and when I start it again, there's a crash report and I click on send to apple, after a minute or so it says failed to send to apple. It has happened many times and I think it's getting worse since I can't send any reports.
    What should I do?

    Hello Firah,
Don't worry or even bother sending the report, Apple doesn't want to hear about 10.5.x at all... if they eer did.
Copy & Paste a few lines here, maybe a couple dozen, we'll take a look.

  • After upgrading to OS lion 10.8.2 my macbook crashed when upgrading iPhoto, Aperture and MS Office. has anyone simular problems?

since I did an upgrade yesterday (sept 20th 12) my macbook crashed and does an autoantic restart when doing a upgrade. It occurs doing so for iPhoto, MSoffice or Aperture.
Can someone help me on this issue?

My late 2009 13" Macbook is now very laggy. For example, the cursor won't respond until many seconds after I place a finger on the touchpad. When I use the keyboard to increase or decrease volume or screen brightness, there is a noticeable lag between my inputs and what I see. Every time I pause between typing words, I find the keyboard won't respond until I wait a few more seconds. This is very disappointing. I need to roll back until Apple are able to look into any potential issues. I didn't have any such problems prior to upgrade.

  • Macbook crash caused by video

Problem: My Macbook crashes and reboots when I watch You Tube or other video content or when I do video chat sessions (e.g., Google Hangouts). It doesn't crash every single time I watch a video or do a chat, but it does crash often and unpredictably. Sometimes it'll crash directly after I have rebooted. When it crashes, the screen suddenly goes black, and the laptop restarts itself. It happens on both Chrome and Safari browsers.
    Background:
I've had the laptop 7 years, but the problem started only recently. My hard drive was failing, so I had to install a new one. The hard drive upgrade required me to install Snow Leopard from the CD onto the new drive, restore my data from my Time Machine external disk, and use System Update to install all patches. I did all of this, and the laptop is generally running well, except for video content. I also deleted and reinstalled the Chrome and Adobe Flash applications, but that has not helped.
    System Software:
      System Version: Mac OS X 10.6.8 (10K549)
      Kernel Version: Darwin 10.8.0
    Hardware:
      Model Name: MacBook
      Model Identifier: MacBook3,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
      Processor Speed: 2.2 GHz
      Number Of Processors: 1
      Total Number Of Cores: 2
      L2 Cache: 4 MB
      Memory: 4 GB
Any suggestions for fixing or diagnosing this issue? Should I take it into an Apple store for them to look at?
    Thanks,
    Rick

  • My macbook crashed, and i want to sync my phone with my new macbook

My Macbook crashed, and with it I lost my entire music library; at least the part that wasn't synced to my iPhone 4S. I purchased a new macbook and would love to transfer the songs FROM my iphone TO my macbook, but I keep getting this message - which I am fearful will erase the precious few songs I did save on the iPhone:
Are you sure you want to remove existing music, movies, TV shows, books, and tones from this iPhone and sync with this iTunes library?
Can somebody please advise? Thank you.

    Hi evanlovett,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities! I understand that you no longer have the computer that had your iTunes Library stored on it and you want to move what music you still have on your iPhone to your new computer. If the music was purchased from iTunes you can get this music back to your iTunes Library two different ways. You can either transfer purchases from the iPhone to the iTunes Library, or you can just download the music again from the Purchased section of iTunes. I will post the information on both ways to recover your purchased music below. If the music on your iPhone came from a CD or another source (not purchased from iTunes) there would be no way to transfer it to your iTunes Library.

My macbook crashed and I am trying to install my adobe programs again but I can't because he is used earlier by myself. How can I fix this without buying a whole new packet?

  • Macbook crashes upon startup

Hllo, my MacBook crashes during booting the startup phase. I've tried different solutions that i read about on various forums, such as using the disc utility services, but none of Them helps. my Mac hd is inaktive and cannot repair it, the reinstalling of the os x maverick wont start and so on. Though i tried to use an installation dvd with an older version of os x and it wouldn't start indtaling, but when i opened the DU there it could activate my hd an i could see the files on the disc in the disc image, but when i tried to restart the computer from the active hd it would crash again. Any suggestions on what to do? Thanks in advance

She could have a bad hard drive. There have been certain model drives in MacBooks failing recently.

  • My Macbook crashed and I can't figure out....

I had iWeb and a whole website all done. Domain name and all... just a perfect personal site.
    My Macbook crashed.
I got a new hard drive installed and am going thru re-installing and re-setting things to my liking... and when I open iWeb and put in my .Mac id and password, it asks me to "create a new site?!"... how do I access the old one? It's still all there... when I type in my domain name to a browser, I see my site and all that was in it... and when I check the .Mac site, it's all there.
How do I get to it from the laptop - the re-freshed one?

You can't open your site in iWeb unless you have a backup copy of the domain file.
You can get some help here....
    http://iwebfaq.org/site/iWebBackupretrieve.html
If its any consolation, I had two crashes before I invested in 2 external firewire drives which have a complete bootable backup of everything on my Mac plus a third drive with Time Machine.

  • MacBook crashes several times a day

    Hello,
My MacBook crashes several times a day. It usually happens when the screensaver is on. Once it has crashed, it displays multicolored twinkling lines and it does not respond to anything but the power button to switch it off.
I checked every log file in Console.app and did not find anything logged.
So I had it repaired, just got it back (they changed the motherboard) but it still crashes.
Before I bring it back, again (and they change the motherboard, again ?), anyone has any idea on what could be the real reason of these crashes ?
Here is a picture of what I get when it crashes :
    http://www.twitpic.com/729bk
    Regards,
    Ben.

Ah, so the "multicolored twinkling lines" display is a prominent point you do have showing up. An appointment with that evidence in hand is necessary.
There is an advantage to running the Apple Hardware Test prior to going in, so that you can report the results. Any report at all by the Test indicates a flaw or failure of some sort, and is likely to result in immediate action of some sort by Apple. Without the Test results, you usually must rely upon duplicating the problem, or at least the symptom, which at least you now have with your photo.
Hopefully, you have backed up any saved data that is important to you. Backing up the OS is not important, as it will be replaced if the logic board, video component, or even the entire unit, is replaced.
I know it's a lot to ask in these times, but if you don't have one, it might be worth it to get portable (2.5-inch) USB storage for back-up. I got a good one with lots more space than my MacBook has (so I can back up everything at once) at Costco under $100, and I'm sure you can find the same most anywhere.
If set up correctly, a USB backup can be used to boot an Intel-based Mac, which can be very useful for diagnostic purposes, as booting from it will quickly differentiate a hardware-based from software-based issue. Good luck.

  • Macbook crashes after Snow Leopard install

I've just upgraded to snow leopard, but now the macbook crashes about 3 seconds after the desktop appears. How do I getout of this? Any advice gratefully received. Thanks

    Boot in Safe Mode
A Safe Mode boot can take a few minutes.
Launch Disk Utility. That is located in /Applications/Utilities
Select the startup disk on the left then select the First Aid tab.
Click Verify Disk (not Verify Disk Permissions)
If the startup disk needs repairing, follow the instructions for Using Disk Utility to verify or repair disks
Note:  While you have the Disk Utility window open look for Capacity and Available at the bottom of the window.
Make sure you always have a minimum of 15% free disk space.

I hate to say this, but unless you are paying the 25 bucks you cannot back up your library to the cloud.
All you can do is back up the items you "purchased" from Apple.
    iTunes Match
For $24.99/year you’ll get access to all your iTunesmusic including tunes you ripped from CDs or “borrowed” from anonymous friends. It scans your library to see if the song exists in iTunes’ 18 million song catalog and if it does it’ll stream it to you at 256 kbps. If your song is not in iTunes then it’ll be uploaded to iCloud at whatever rate it is on your device where it can be streamed for your listening pleasure. I cannot find any information on how to restore a library, however
    Best of luck

  • Macbook crashes when Onkyo TX-NR509 is turned on

    Hi!
My Macbook crashes everytime I switch on my Onkyo receiver which is connected through a mini displayport to hdmi cable. This issue started after upgrading to Mavericks. I already tried to restart the computer into safe mode and reset some cashes (I read about this in another thread) but had no luck with that.
For audio signals I use a mini toslink cable which do not affect the computer so it seems the receiver sends a signal to the computer which causes the crash.
I also attached the crash report. It would be really great if someone could help!
    Many thanks in advance!

Thanks, but it did not work out. However, I figured out that the Mac only crashes when the TV is also on at the same time. The TV is connected via a HDMI cable with the Onkyo receiver. If I only switch on the receiver (having the TV off) the computer logs out but do not crash.
    Does this make any sense?
    Thanks!

  • MacBook crashed 30 times - Crash Report

MacBook crashed 30 times yesterday.  I thought it was LogicPro, or a plug-in, but it also crashed on youtube and another website.  I don't know how to read these reports, but I noticed at the top "panic" and it references "VM..."  Is this what is crashing?  And how do I know what program this is?  Thank you very much for any help you might have.

A crash in all sorts of unrelated applications always points towards a general problem. Your crash is a virtual memory manager panic, which is fairly deep down in the inner kernel mechanisms. There is no way this has been caused by a bad config file or a corrupted OS file (the kernel binaries are checksummed), the only sensible explanation is faulty RAM or a bad logic board. Sorry to say that, but I think you'll have to take your macbook in for repairs.
    Best of luck,
    Jazz
P.S. There's one thing you can try, and that's taking out the RAM modules and reseating them. Be careful when handling them. Don't touch the contacts and make sure you are not statically charged. If you have more than one RAM module you can also try to remove either one and see if the problem disappears. If it does replace the bad module.
