Macbook died for no reason at all

I'm stumped. One minute my macbook (2008 model) was fine & the next it just wouldnt turn on. It's dead. I've checked the battery (full power), the power adapter...tried all the steps given in the apple pamphlet. Nothing. Oh, and it's one week out of warranty. ONE WEEK.
Apparently it may be a logic board problem (according to man in apple shop)...but how could this possibly be when it's never given me any problems within the last one year (I bought it last July). It's never hung, i've never had to force quit the machine. It's just gone. poof. like black magic.
Apparently the logic board is really expensive to replace? Is that true? What should I do? I've taken terribly good care of the macbook & there's no clear reason why this is happening Very upset. Please help.

Oh yes, I definitely took out the battery to do this.
The apple man did a few of the steps that I'd already done from the pamphlet & then told me I'd have to leave my macbook with them for an engineer to look at as he couldn't tell me for sure what was wrong. But that he said he suspected the logic board was spoilt.
Not stupid at all...I tried doing that too, taking out the battery & powering it up with just the ac adapter plugged in. No luck
I'm flummoxed!! I've taken really good care of this little machine & loved using it. Is it worth replacing the logic board? I can't afford a brand new laptop & even replacing the LB (it's really expensive, right?) is going to be difficult financially
am just so bummed that what I saw as a worthwhile investment barely lasted a year.

Hi,
As you have match, I suggest that you create a new library by holding ctrl whist launching iTunes. Select create new library. Sign into iTunes Store and activate match. You will now have access to your music and will be able to stream your music.
Options : get a new external drive formatted for mac and either download music from match or copy music from old drive to new one. Alternatively you could reformat old drive and download music from match - I would not be comfortable using this option as it means erasing drive before being able to use with mac.

I have tried to sync my Iphone with my current Itunes and for some reason not all of my music is transferring to my Iphone. Some songs that were on my phone previously, are now not transferring. Any ideas?

iTunes will only copy back iTunes purchased music. If you don't still have a copy of the music that you copied from CDs or bought from other stores anywhere (e.g. on another computer or on your backup of your library) then there are some third-party programs listed half-way this page which should be able to copy them back : Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

I installed Nik:s suite of plug-ins for LR5 but for some reason not all of them were installed. In the end I uninstalled all of the Nik programs from my Mac but before I reinstalled them I opened LR5 again to check. Under "photo" and "edit in" the plug-in

Wow that was really quick, thank you so much. Im not sure at all which version it was because i said it was around 4 years ago he bought it. I know it isn't under his username, since he's a PC person (ugh) so i know its probably registered to one of our actual names. isn't there some way to look it up since we did register it, because I'm not even sure where the disks are from when we bought it (we've moved a lot and also have two storage lockers, i know i would have kept it with other disks) but my cd rom drive is actually broken on my computer as well ( i think it got stepped on and is now squished and won't eject or run disks.)
So is there anyway they can look up that its registered to one of our names since we did register it when we bought and installed it, or do i really have to find the disk with some sort of proof of purchase (i know there would be no receipt after all this time)

I'm sorry to read that you are having issues with your Sync account.
Your best bet is to follow the steps described in this blogposts and open a bug:

After that, if you don't want to user Sync in your computer, you can stop it with this simple steps:
* At the top of the Firefox window, click on the Firefox button (Tools menu in Windows XP) and then click Options.
* Once the options window opens, click on the Sync tab.
* At the bottom of the Sync tab click on '''Deactivate this Device''' link

iPhone 5 requires OS X 10.6.8 & iTunes 10.7 or greater. I suspect you're running Leopard, 10.5.8, correct? If so, you will first have to update your OS, then iTunes in order to sync your phone.

My iPhone 4S has just died for no reason despite having 22 left on the battery. Any Help?
I had problems with the battery on my old iPhone 4S which i had to get rid because the battery was not working and i feel i'm back to this battery problem again.
I got my first iPhone 4S in march last year since then i'm now on my 2nd iPhone 4S because of the battery problems.

A multitude of problems: dying for no reason, no backup for restoration...

Exactly what it says. I've only had the 2nd generation since August, but it's been a hassle just keeping the thing alive and working. Most of the time (let's say 75%), it runs as it sound; for the rest of the while, it'll often die despite the fact that it's half, or even fully-charged. Sometimes it'll stop working when it's in active use--again, just out of the blue. And you'd think that if I pressed the button, an image of an empty battery or an image depicting a cable to iTunes would show up--and sometimes it does, but for the most part, I can't get a response out of it. When it magically revives, it either reboots or "wakes" from sleep mode, even if I didn't leave it in sleep mode. (Actually, it's died several times when I put it in sleep mode for a few minutes, sometimes seconds.)
Most of the time, I'm forced to hook it up to my laptop and wait for anything between a few minutes to a few hours for my computer and my Touch to register that it's being charged (or rebooted). There have been times when my laptop will pop up with a message saying that there's an "unknown device" attached or that the USB port isn't working; waiting a long while and repeatedly attaching and detaching the cable finally gets it going.
Right now, my Touch is currently in restore mode for absolutely no reason--it just killed itself after being in sleep for a few minutes, and when I attached it to my laptop, iTunes came up saying that my Touch needed to be restored.
Now, with the restores--iTunes 8 won't let me backup my Touch--it has the default settings restore and one from December 23, but despite later attempts, there simply isn't the "backup" option when I right-click on the Touch icon on the iTunes window.
And when I had no choice but to restore to the December 23 backup, iTunes bypassed that and put it back on factory settings, meaning that I'm having to sync everything all over again >( ARGH.
Unrelated, but why will iTunes register some Asian characters and not others? It makes Japanese/Chinese symbols in the song names turn into hieroglyphs. Is it Vista (since it happens on Vista despite all efforts to figure out what's going wrong with the OS DX)?
Now I'm having a hard time getting it just to sync certain files and not my entire library headdesk.

I bought it new from eBay (yes...but it was brand new and factory-sealed from a reputable dealer). I've been trying to get to the seller (he's contacted me by email before D:) for a receipt (why didn't I just ask him to send it with in the first place?) but I can't get hold of him (just tried sending another about an hour ago), so I won't be able to discuss repairs with the Apple crew or inquire about a replacement or their policies ...
Um. Is there anything else that might help...?

Ferdie,
If the dying server produces a core file in $APPDIR, then it is often easy to determine the line or the function that is causing the server to die.
If there is no core file, then the only way to determine what is happening is to use debugging statements in the eLinkTUX2BW server to narrow down the location of the error.
If you set
TMTRACE=*:ulog
in the UBBCONFIG *SERVERS ENVFILE parameter for the eLinkTUX2BW server then this will log a message for each ATMI or XA call performed within eLinkTUX2BW. You can also insert userlog() statements in application code to further narrow down the cause of the error.

I just want to let you know how thrilled I am that my seven month old video iPod has just croaked, for no apparent reason. I left it attached to the PC overnight, and woke up to find that all the music, etc on the ipod was gone. I downloaded The updater software, as instructed. But that failed to load to the ipod. I was informed there was a disk write error, firmware failure, some such. The iPod now is giving me the "folder!" telling me to contact ipod support. That's a laugher. I tried to put in for repairs, but your repair website is malfunctioning.
I'll take any advice you have to offer. Meanwhile, if you Apple folks are keeping score, I am one unhappy customer.

I too have had a similar experience, HOWEVER, I took my dead IPod to the Apple store in Meadowhall, SHeffield and the guys could not have done more, they tried to fix it and when it didn't fix they swapped it for another IPod, I for one amd a Happy Customer

My ipod 6th gen just died- for no reason.

So I woke up this morning and tried to turn on my new ipod 6th gen, and it didn't react at all. I was pretty unsatisfied with the battery anyways, and noticed it draining over night since you cant turn it off completely, but the battery couldn't be the problem since i just charged it yesterday night. So i hooked it up to my mac and its still not responding at all. I'm pretty ******, I always handled it with care, it wasn't in the sun, near water, or anything else. The sleep button has been unresponsive before. The only thing i could think of is that i disconnected it without ejecting it yesterday, but it didn't die then, since it told me just that- that i disconnected it and shouldn't do so in the future. HELP PLEASE

Today I returned my Nano 6th Gen. to Best Buy for the second time.
Both units just Died within 30 days of usage.
First problem the **** battery seems to just keep running even when on stand by.
Why is there no power off button??
Second even after charging the battery life was short.
Third, the both iPods just shut off and then when I tried to recharge they overheated

Itunes refuses to recognise my ipad telling me that i need to uninstall itunes and reinstall the itunes 64bit version for windows - i am on windows 7 and all was working fine until suddenly for no reason at all itunes had some apple support error

well i have found that i needed to not just uninstall itunes, but also apple mobile device support, bonjour apple software update and apple application support - uninstall all these and then install itunes - that seesm to have fixed it, though now i am sync fail - that's a different matter perhaps

My ipod has gone into recovery mode for no reason at all

So I was in Sri Lanka for the past 2 months volunteering, and I took my ipod with me. My camera was unfortunately out of action from day one, so I used my (very crappy) ipod camera to take photos for the entire time that I was in Sri Lanka.
I had been there almost two months, I was in the last week of my stay when my ipod all of a sudden turns itself off when I was using it. It wouldn't come back on, and it was fully charged. I even tried plugging it in but it did nothing. It wouldn't come back on for two days, and then I tried it and it just says 'connect to itunes'. So I got home yesterrday and plugged it into itunes, and it says that my ipod is in recovery mode and has to be restored. However, if I restore it, I will lose ALL of my photos from Sri Lanka!!
I have tried googling this problem for a while and can't seem to find a solution. My home button does not work which is another pain.
But can someone please help me and tell me a way to save my photos?! I don't care about anything else, I cannot lose those photos They obviously aren't backed up either because I didn't have my computer at any point in Sri Lanka so it hasn't been connected to an itunes at any point in those photos being taken.

You iPod encounter and error. That happens sometimes.
Unless one of these programs will kick the iPod out of recovery mode all information on the iPod is lost
