Macbook display suddenly turns black
My macbook was working just fine, and I was surfing the net when the display would suddenly turn black, everything is still running, and if I look closely, the screen is just very dark, but i can still see a little bit, I have to press f1 and f2 a few times to get it back to normal.
It happened the first time last night, and it already happened three times since I turned it on today
Is this a common problem?

That coverage is for the MacBook Pro, not a 2006 MacBook.
+Website Says:+
These are Mac Book Pros manufactured between May 2007 and September 2008.
It could be an issue I've seen with a bad backlight. Try moving the screen in small increments all the way back and all the way forward. This may trigger the screen to go blank. It's either a bad connection between with the display or the LCD has gone bad.
Your MacBook is out of warranty so there might be a cost if you go to an Apple Store to get it fixed. http://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar to visit a store (if you are in the US. If not I can give you additional information)

Macbook screen suddenly turns black
Hi everybody.
I have a macbook pro since 20 months now.
I turn it off very rarely but, many times, I have had the problem that, after awaking it from sleep mode, the screen suddenly turns black and I have to turn the macbook down. This problem happens approximately 1 time every two months.
Here are my macbook details and the report of the problem. I hope you can help me.
Macbook pro (10.7.5): 2,4 Ghz Intel Core i5
Memory: 8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3

I tried to use the Apple Recover Lion and downloaded it to my external drive. Then, tried to use it -that's when the problem started I got the panic screen. This has not happened for several months since the Lion upgrade, and only happened when I tried to reinstall Lion. Now taking it back to the Mac dealer to figure out what is causing this new issue. I am writing this from my old HP laptop -which is running fine with Windows 7. Don't know if buying a Mac was a good idea. This seems to be a software issue with the downloaded recovery program, Apple should fix this asap not in 6 months, there are posts about this for a year now.

Responding to display lid opening and closing on portable Macs
Battery management
Thermal management

Mac pro mid 2010 - screen suddenly turns black
hi everybody,
since today my Mac pro (snow leopard) does the following:
Sometimes the screen suddenly turns black. Only the Cursor can be seen (sometimes not even that).
When I reboot the system everything seems fine, but after a few minutes the same problem occurs.
Unfortunately I'm not able to copy the specifications of my system because the black screen is faster than I am after a reboot.
I would be glad if anybody knew what I can do about it.
Thanks guys! ChrisSafe Mode does the equivalent of a Disk Utility (Repair Disk) while it puts up that progress bar. It never get more than about 1/3 of the way across, even when everything is great. But if your drive is un-mountable after the repair cycle, your Mac cannot start up, and it will shut down.
NOT shutting down is a good sign.
Safe Mode should continue and load a minimal set of Apple-only Drivers. It does NOT load the graphics card Driver, which is why it can be useful to learn more about your graphics card.
If you are using your Boot SSD for everything, and are not using TRIM, your SSD may be clogging up with deleted data. There are several ways to eliminate or reduce the deleted data.
One way is to run any system, 10.6.8 or later, with TRIM Enabler installed, and run one pass of Disk Utility (Repair Disk) with TRIM active. This presents one additional line of output:
"Trimming unused blocks"
and pauses for up to a minute while the unused blocks are TRIMmed.
TRIM Enabler has become much more difficult to install on 10.9.5 and later, because it conflicts with the new Kernel-extension signing feature.
Edit> If you are really running 10.6.8, you can install TRIM Enabler in your active System. It is free, but be sure to get the correct version for your system. There is an advanced-features version also available for a modest charge. -
Hello everyone,
My macbook pro 15" suddenly turned off. Now i tried several time to switch it on and seems it is working but the display doesn't function or there are many wired pictures coming up sometimes.
can anyone please help me with this issue?
ThanksWelcome to the Apple Support Communities
Your Mac can't find any bootable partition.
1. Insert the Mac OS X DVD that came with the Mac and press C key while your Mac is starting.
2. Select Utilities > Disk Utility, choose Macintosh HD in the sidebar and repair the disk. If it doesn't work, take the Mac to an Apple Store.
Also, open > Startup Disk, select Macintosh HD and restart. Maybe your Mac has forgotten the startup partition -
Hi all
In both Snow Leopard and Lion, it sometimes (rather rarely) happens. Specially when the system tries to use a litle bit more of the graphics performance - such as using Mission Control, opening Adobe Photoshop, using Quick Preview (pressing the space key) - the display very suddenly goes black, or turns off. In this phase, absolutely nothing works ! No sound, no response to pressing any of the keys on the keyboard, NOTHING! Not even the keyboard backlit adjustment keys (F5 & F6) do any good.
And what I do is to press and hold the power button to turn the dead device, off and start it up again.
What I did to solve this problem which didn't work at all:
1- Since the problem occurs when using more graphics performance, I reckon this might have something to do with the graphic switching... . so I unchecked the "Automatic Graphic Switching" in both Snow Leopard & Lion, but still the same thing happened a few times.
2- I did reset the P-RAM and SMC (whatever they are) in Snow Leopard. No difference !
3- I changed from Snow Leopard to Lion, which is currently installed on the device.
None of the above could solve this annoying and devastating problem.
I'm too afraid that this is a hardware related issue. If so, then any of the two graphic chipsets, or even the mainboard might be damaged I guess ?
Does anyone have seen such thing and happened to solve it somehow? I would REALLY appreciate if you could share the solution. Any kinda guidance, helping to find out the reason of this, would be such a relief !
So thank you, in advancedOh ! One thing I forgot to mention...
And that is, I tested the hardware twice, using Apple Hardware Test, in both quick and extended modes.
p.s.:
The "problem" happened three times in the last 30 minutes. I've been using Photoshop. Thank god everything got recovered....
I desprately need help here guys !! -
Help!!! My Macbook Pro suddenly turns off
Towards the end of my work day, my Macbook Pro suddenly shut off. I thought I had accidently pressed the power button or something, and so I turned it back on. However, 10 minutes later it randomly shut off again. The power was at about 80%. I connected the laptop to charge, and I was able to use it perfectly with no problem. After about an hour, I unplugged it and it continued to turn off again.
I am currenly running Mac OS X Version 10.6.8. I have included the power status, to see if this might be of any help.
CAN SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP ME?
Thanks!

Macbook Pro screen turns black and has to be force restarted
I have a 2010 15 inch Macbook Pro that I purchased for college and that is mainly what I use it for! However lately (the past 3 months) my computer has been turning black with use of videos, pictures and sometimes just my broswer in general. It does not seem to have a reason or pattern but always gives me this panic report after restart. Any Ideas?

20"iMac Display Suddenly Goes Black
While I am using my iMac, occasionally suddenly goes black. If I hit a key (usually the space bar), it comes back as if I had put it to sleep.
What is happening? What should be done? What can I do?
Thanks for your help and information."Answered on another forum"
What a way to be helpful! I went through your posts and searched "display" and I did not find this mysterious answer you talk about.
I'm having the same issues on my Intel Core 2 Duo 20" iMac. if ANYONE could post a solution, I'd appreciate it.
The computer is still working correctly. It is not on sleep mode. I've press the power button and it goes to sleep, but then when I wake it up it repeats the black screen a couple of times until it finally settles on letting me work.
What is the point of user support forum if there are no moderators around to help people out? :/ -
Pictures display then turn black after reload or switching tabs
Images on web pages load initially (usually) but then some turn black if the page is reloaded or if switching between tabs. Will also happen with pictures at bottom of pages on initial load. Sometimes the pictures will display normally again after scrolling, but not always. Happens when single tab is open, multiple tabs are open, and both in and out of private mode. Started in version 34 or 35, still happening in 36.
Correction: desktop version works for new reply but not when editing a reply.
