Macbook doesn't start no screen

I have a 2007 black macbook that will not boot.
Symptoms: when i hit the power button, screen flashes then goes black.  Light on front illuminates - solid white.  I can hear the fans inside but not much more.  The computer remains in this state - no change at all.  I hear no beeps at all when I start.
This is what I tried:
1. I performed a number of tests to reset the firmware - held button for 10 secs, removed battery and lugged I power to reset etc
2. I removed all memory to see if anything different happens - nothing
3. I removed the hard drive - nothing again
4. I attempted to try to reboot from the CD/DVD drive - drive doesn't accept my disc at all.
Not sure what the next possible troubleshooting steps I can take.
Any tips/suggestions much appreciated.
Thanks

Thanks for the suggestion.  Nothing on the screen with a flashlight.  The computer is not booting up - I can't even insert a boot disk to try that.  Not sure if the firmware, or whatever drives it has started up.

Thanks for these suggestions: I have tried safe mode re-starts (both "verbose" and simple "shift" + power) to no avail.  I get the error message "disk0s2: media is not present".  Following this I inserted the installation disc and from there ran disc utility.  The "Verify Disk" indicated an error " invalid sibling link" which it could not repair.
I also tried to completely re-format/erase the disk, but again got an error message "disk object invalid or unable to serialize".
Any ideas of what could be causing this or the best solution?  I fear I am fast running out of options.

  • MacBook Pro, randomly Windows 7 doesn't start and screen goes blank

Hi, I installed Windows 7 (Ultimate 64-bit) using the BootCamp on my MacBook Pro (MBP) i7, mid 2010. Installation was successful without any issues. This is my first Mac and, for now, I primarily use Windows on my MBP. The problem: After selecting Windows OS, randomly, Windows doesn't start and the screen goes blank. When this happens, most of the time I have to press the power button twice and press the Option key again to restart in Windows. Sometimes I have to hold down power button for several seconds to turn off MBP, then power it back on to start over. Windows 7 seems to restart on second try every time.
I can tell when the screen will go blank and Windows will not start, when the blinking cursor does not appear on upper left corner of the screen. Also, I enabled Windows OS Boot Log and nothing displays when this happens.
I took in my MBP, twice, to local Apple store Genius Bar and I was told that it was a Windows problem and I must purchase AppleCare Protection Plan to get help resolving the blank screen. It was explained to me that AppleCare had Windows experts who can help with resolving the issue. Therefore I purchased the AppleCare Protection Plan and spoke to AppleCare directly and still no resolution.
Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

There is a forum specifically for Boot Camp, this is a general MBP forum and most of us don't use Boot Camp or Windows. The link to that forum is:

Apple does support Boot Camp however if your problem is with Windows Apple does not support a Microsoft product. You would need to contact Microsoft for help.

  • Weird noise and the MacBook doesn't start

    Heyya guys!
A friend of mine has this MacBook white and for some reason the computer doesn't start... i don't even get the Apple logo and there is something strange on the combo drive... It sounds like it's trying to eject something or read something but there's nothing inside....
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

Does your friend have the original install discs for the computer?
If so, have your friend insert Install Disc 1 and boot the computer with the C key held down. Once the Installer loads, choose a language, then from the Utilities menu, choose *Disk Utility*. If your friend is using Boot Camp to run Windows, have him/her click on *Macintosh HD* in the left-hand column. If Windows is not being run, have him/her click on the top-most hard drive icon, which will have the capacity of the drive listed.
Once a drive is selected, click the *Repair Disk* button. Record any errors that can't be repaired, if any.
If the install DVDs aren't available, have your friend try booting in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key while booting.

  • Macbook doesn't start after sleep

When my macbook pro goes asleep, after appr 30 minutes it doesn't start up anymore. I have to start up by holding the on/off button for 10 secs . After that my macbook acts very slow. When I close the macbook and start up again, it works oke. Until it falls in sleep.......it starts all over again.
    What to do?

    Hi Hoekiebest,
If you are having unusual issues waking from sleep on your Mac, you may find the troubleshooting steps outlined in the following article helpful (in particular, resetting SMC/PRAM):

  • Macbook freezes at Start Up screen/Will not boot

I have a 13" MacBook purchased almost two years ago. The computer recently froze completely. I tried to restarted the computer but it would just go to the white start up screen (w/ Apple logo) over and over again. I turned it off completely and let it sit for a hour or so while it was plugged in. Now when I turn on the computer it will not turn on - it makes the Apple chime and goes to the white start up screen with grey logo.
Is there anything trouble shooting I can do to try and resolve this problem?

What operating system are you running please?

  • Macbook doesn't start up - Help Please?

    Hello,
I have a Macbook Intel Core 2 Duo that I bought back in January 2007, OS X 10.4.11. Yesterday I was starting up my computer, but got no response from the power button. The battery was fully charged. Nevertheless I plugged in the power cord, but yet again, my Macbook would not start up. I have tried everything, but pressing on the power button just makes the light by the camera flash rapidly in green. I got my Mac to start after several hours of trying, but I would like to know where this problem is coming from because it is constantly occuring. Have any of you experienced the same thing?

When you open System Profiler, do items in the "Overview" and "Hardware" section show as usual? Memory - all there? Diagnostics - passed? Serial-ATA's S.M.A.R.T. status - verified?
First, backup your important data immediately before trying anything further.
Your Mac does not need installed software to start up, also does not need an internal hard drive - therefore, have you tried inserting the original grey-labeled Install Disc 1 to see if/how it starts up to that disc when you hold down the "d" key to run the Apple Hardware Test?
Starting up in that manner will bypass the internal hard drive and the installed software. Theoretically, it should always startup right away when starting up to the Install Disc 1. Any stated results obtained from running a fresh Apple Hardware Test?
If your MacBook will not start up any better when trying with Install Disc 1, it probably has a hardware failure - perhaps the battery/power supply or a connector or cable...perhaps worse. The Apple Hardware Test may not recognize what the problem is, so don't rely on a no problem report if that's what it shows. If there is any error, write it down and pass that info along to the repair folks when you call them.

  • Macbook pro wont start. grey screen then shuts off

I have been having some problems with my macbook when my battery would die and i would plug it in and try to turn it back on it would take forever to start back up. Sometimes i woudl have to unplug, take out the battery then put them back in and zap the pram and it would start. Then today it just started taking forever to restart so i shut it down and tried to restart now it starts goes to the grey screen and the little thing starts spinning and then about 5 sedc later it shuts itself down.
    PLEASE HELP

If the Apple Hardware test does not bring up any problems with the hardware, I would advise doing an archive and install before you zero out the drive and erase all of the data on it.
Some things to keep in mind:
If your computer shuts down while booted to the install disk (either the AHT or the installer) you're looking at a hardware problem.
If you need to erase and install or send it in for repair of a hardware problem, you will need to back up any data you do not want to lose before doing so. If you are unable to do backups, an apple store or authorized service provider can do data retrieval for you. Bear in mind this is an optional service and you would be charged a fee for data retrieval.

  • My macbook does not start, gray screen, apple and turning gear appears

my macbook froze. then shut down the computer to clear the freeze condition. when trying to restart, the computer starts to boot, the apple appears on the screen, the gear rotates, however the computer does not continue to boot. can anyone help?

That would normally indicate a problem with the Hard Drive.
Do you have an Instal Disc to try to boot from? Hold the Mouse button down when powering up & eject if there's a Disc in it now.

  • MacBook doesn't start up properly

I had a customer bring in what is supposedly a water damaged MacBook (a 2007 model, I believe, I'm not looking at it right now). At first, it seemed to be in the middle of a firmware update, and the screen would turn on and off as would the fans for a while, before settling down a bit. Once it started showing the Apple logo, it now boots to either a blue screen or the login screen and will immediately go into sleep. When I try to wake it up, I can enter characters into the password field but the laptop goes right back to sleep again. I recorded a video of the behavior: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2nhrCxGJVF0 (skip the first 30 seconds). I have tried doing a safe boot, which does boot (I can see red French text which I assume reads safe mode) and zapping the PRAM a few times, which didn't help.
I put in another hard drive with Ubuntu installed and attempted to install 10.6 on it, but Ubuntu booted up instead - and everything works absolutely fine! Puzzling.
The disc I was using is a copy of a retail 10.6 DVD (yes, I bought it, and no, I'm not a pirate) which loads the options for Remote Install when put in a PC, so I assume it's working. I will have to check with the customer to see if she has the original discs but based on past experience, it's not likely.
    Anxiously awaiting your replies!

It sounds like a hard drive issue. Either a corrupted file system or physically dying. You can try running Disk Utility or fsck on it. You can do it from the Snow Leopard install disk.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1417
Now it sounds like you may have already tried that, in which case you should try installing 10.6 on a new hard drive. To boot from a CD/DVD do one of the following.
Restart your computer and immediately press the Option key. Icons for all available startup volumes will appear. Click the one you want to boot from, and then click the right arrow button to complete the startup process.
Restart your computer and immediately press Command-Option-Shift-Delete. You must press all the keys at once. The computer will start to boot from the CD or DVD drive. If there isn't a bootable disc inside the drive when you begin the reboot, the computer will attempt to boot from another partition or drive.
Restart your computer and immediately press the c key. The computer will look for a bootable CD or DVD and, if it finds one, will use it as its startup device.
You can use disk utility to erase the ubuntu hard drive and then proceed with the installation of OS X.

  • MacBook doesn't start anymore: CC still active :/

    Hey folks,
being the scatterbrain I am, I spilled coffee over my 3 months old MacBook Air. >_> Creative Cloud is still active there, but I need to run Photoshop on my new MacBook. Is there any way to deactivate CC for a device without starting it up?
    Greetings

I don't think you actually have to do much of anything, just set it up and use it on your new machine.  It seems to me I remember reading that the activations will just shift to your most recent two machines on which you've used the software.

    Hello oct4v3,
I have read your post on how your notebook computer is not powering on, and I would be happy to guide you towards a resolution!
Since you have already reseated the memory and the battery for your computer, I recommend following this document on Computer Does Not Start (Windows 8). This should help to power on your notebook.

  • Satellite L350D-200 doesn't start - blank screen

    Just like similar cases:
Switch on, hear the HD spinning, nothing else, screen stays blank, no BIOS
    Checked with external monitor
Removed battery AC for > 1 hour, doesn't help.
No SW/HW updates I'm aware off (other then the automatic updates)
Looks like a HW failure -> ASP?
    PZ

    Hi!
    > Looks like a HW failure -> ASP?
    Yes, it seems so! :(
Im not a notebook technician but you have all done what you can do: Removing battery for one hour and checked with an external monitor.
For me it sounds like a hardware malfunction
The Satellite L350 is a new notebook and I assume your notebook is still under warranty. So the repair should be for free.
I think its the best way because the notebook technician can check every hardware part of the notebook to determine what is causing this issue.
    Bye

  • HT203176 My macbook doesn't start up.

The screen stays black and nothing happens after the power is switched on (the white power indicator light is on). I only hear the superdrive starting but I can't play an installation dvd. Who knows what the problem is?

It sounds like your hard drive is failing or it could be what apple calls your hard drive flex cable attached to the MLB (motherboard) worst senario is that its your MLB. First run your MRI TO CHECK AND THEN RUN YOUR STORAGE DISK DIAGNOSTICS TEST TO BE SURE.
