Macbook doesn't start up - Help Please?

Hello,
I have a Macbook Intel Core 2 Duo that I bought back in January 2007, OS X 10.4.11. Yesterday I was starting up my computer, but got no response from the power button. The battery was fully charged. Nevertheless I plugged in the power cord, but yet again, my Macbook would not start up. I have tried everything, but pressing on the power button just makes the light by the camera flash rapidly in green. I got my Mac to start after several hours of trying, but I would like to know where this problem is coming from because it is constantly occuring. Have any of you experienced the same thing?

When you open System Profiler, do items in the "Overview" and "Hardware" section show as usual? Memory - all there? Diagnostics - passed? Serial-ATA's S.M.A.R.T. status - verified?
First, backup your important data immediately before trying anything further.
Your Mac does not need installed software to start up, also does not need an internal hard drive - therefore, have you tried inserting the original grey-labeled Install Disc 1 to see if/how it starts up to that disc when you hold down the "d" key to run the Apple Hardware Test?
Starting up in that manner will bypass the internal hard drive and the installed software. Theoretically, it should always startup right away when starting up to the Install Disc 1. Any stated results obtained from running a fresh Apple Hardware Test?
If your MacBook will not start up any better when trying with Install Disc 1, it probably has a hardware failure - perhaps the battery/power supply or a connector or cable...perhaps worse. The Apple Hardware Test may not recognize what the problem is, so don't rely on a no problem report if that's what it shows. If there is any error, write it down and pass that info along to the repair folks when you call them.

So recently my Macbook Pro 17 in w/retina display has technical difficulties. I just bought it on Black Sunday of 2013. It was working fine until December 31 where it started to work slower than usual. At first it would take a longer time to start up. On Jan 2. I had difficulties turning it off but some how I got to manage to turn off my macbook. Yesterday when I tried to turning it on the small loading bar appear with the apple logo but then in a few seconds it turned off. I've trying many methods but none of them seem to work. I feel like I just thrown a large amount of money in the drain. I bought my Macbook in a MicroCenter. Would they be able to repair without any costs? If not what are other methods to solve my problem?

You have a year of warranty with Apple. Just make a Genius Bar appointment. They should take care of it for you. You may also want to consider buying Applecare. That'll give you an additional 2 years of warrany.
Bring your receipt along with when you visit the Apple store.
By the way... you must mean 15" with Retina. They never made a 17" Retina.

Settings>Store...tap the ID shown...sign out...sign back in with the ID you want to use.
Note: Apps are forever tied to the Apple ID used to originally obtain them. They cannot be updated using any other Apple ID other than the one they were originally obtained with.

Thanks for these suggestions: I have tried safe mode re-starts (both "verbose" and simple "shift" + power) to no avail. I get the error message "disk0s2: media is not present". Following this I inserted the installation disc and from there ran disc utility. The "Verify Disk" indicated an error " invalid sibling link" which it could not repair.
I also tried to completely re-format/erase the disk, but again got an error message "disk object invalid or unable to serialize".
Any ideas of what could be causing this or the best solution? I fear I am fast running out of options.

You select the desired file (tick the square box on the left of the file name).

Although vlc mentioned above is a much more powerful and better player you could try installing Perian if you insist on using the quicktime player. It may supply the codec it needs.
Not sure why you wouldn't be able to play straight avi files though in quicktime.

Macbook doesn't start after sleep

When my macbook pro goes asleep, after appr 30 minutes it doesn't start up anymore. I have to start up by holding the on/off button for 10 secs . After that my macbook acts very slow. When I close the macbook and start up again, it works oke. Until it falls in sleep.......it starts all over again.
What to do?

Can someone help me, I have an imac and it suddenly wont recognise the wireless keyboard and tracker pad. Have just replaced batteries and hard resarted the mac but wont work. I have tried another wireless mouse which works but dont have another keyboard. It is password protected so cant get in to do urgent work. Help please.

You could try booting from the install disk #1 (holding down the "C" key while starting up with the disk in) that came with it and then running disk utility to repair the disk. Then restart.
Booting into safe mode (holding the shift key right after the startup tone) and then after it comes up in safe mode, restarting can also help this issue.
Booting into single user mode and running fsck may also help..

Hopefully it is just a simple error on your HD that is causing this problem.
(if you have already done all this before posting, i apologize for suggesting the obvious first... im new to this board and just trying to help!)

Weird noise and the MacBook doesn't start

Heyya guys!
A friend of mine has this MacBook white and for some reason the computer doesn't start... i don't even get the Apple logo and there is something strange on the combo drive... It sounds like it's trying to eject something or read something but there's nothing inside....
Any suggestions?

Does your friend have the original install discs for the computer?
If so, have your friend insert Install Disc 1 and boot the computer with the C key held down. Once the Installer loads, choose a language, then from the Utilities menu, choose *Disk Utility*. If your friend is using Boot Camp to run Windows, have him/her click on *Macintosh HD* in the left-hand column. If Windows is not being run, have him/her click on the top-most hard drive icon, which will have the capacity of the drive listed.
Once a drive is selected, click the *Repair Disk* button. Record any errors that can't be repaired, if any.
If the install DVDs aren't available, have your friend try booting in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key while booting.

Did you restore a backup after you restored to factory settings? If you restored a backup, you should try restoring as new, but if hope that support already told you this.
Have you tried using another WiFi networK? Do you have a computer running iTunes? If so, can you download apps or music on the computer?

My wife's MacBook has a virus! Help, please.

My wife's computer has a virus. I've never seen anything like it on any computer. It's as if a mad person has taken control of the mouse and is operating it continuously by himself—opening and closing apps, locking out us out as we sit watching as helpless bystanders. Turning off the computer, etc. does nothing. Help.

It is not likely a virus, but for info read Klaus's User Tips and the link to Thomas Reeds SafeMac site.
Do a restart of the MacBook and see if that helps, and are you using a mouse with the MacBook or the trackpad?
If a mouse, unplug/unpair it and use the trackpad. If that helps then try attaching the mouse again.
If this continues and you are using the trackpad it could be a problem with the trackpad or its interface with the system...visit the Apple store genius bar and have the techs run their diagnostices to see what is causing this behavior.

I have a MacBook Pro that I bought on Black Friday 2010. It will not start up. I hit the power button and sometimes it stays on the white screen with the Apple logo on it. Sometimes, if I wait long enough, it goes to a blue screen. If I wait even longer it will go to the login page but as soon as I log in, it stays on a blue screen again...I didn't get Apple Care (the stupidest disicion of my life) so I have a few months of Hardware Support but I have no Tech Support over the phone. I do not want to have tp send my MacBook in to Apple is there anything I can do myself to try and fix it? I tried resetting the PRAM, that didn't work. I tried Safe Boot, that didn't work. I tried holding C with the Install Disc in, that didn't work. On all of these attempts it simply stayed on the white screen with the Apple logo on it. please help!

You have until the one-year anniversary date of the purchase of your MacBook Pro to buy and register AppleCare. I would suggest that you do that right away.
You may be surprised to find that there are cheaper places than Apple to buy AppleCare. Check out this list. However, if you're in a hurry, you may be able to call Apple and buy AppleCare and register it over the phone and get your help that very day. (They did this for me about 10 years ago with an iMac; however, things may have changed over the years.)

so i have a macbook that is about one month old, i was making an imovie and left my computer on while it was doing it's importing and when i came back my macbook was asleep... i couldn't get it out of sleep mode so i pushed the power button to reset it... and now when i push the power button it won't start at all.. everything gets hot and what not.. but the screen doesnt' turn on and it doesn't even get to the part where the mac makes the startup sound.. please help me.. i don't know what to do.. i did everything in the manual.. any suggestions.. thank you in advance
