MacBook doesn't tether to non apple products?

If I use my Mac laptop as an internet hotspot through sharing, is there a way I can use it with non apple laptops, because the Internet does not work with my Asus.

From my new Ipad 3 wi-fi/4G LTE I can only text to people who have an apple device! when I put in a phone number or a name from me contact list the send button is grayed out and the contact has a red "!" after it???? I have no problems sending from my Iphone 4!
iPads, unlike phones, do not have the native ability to do SMS, which is what you would need to text non Apple devices. You can only iMessage (to other iOS devices or Macs running the beta of iMessage). In order to text you'd need an app like Text Free

You have nearly run out of disk space.  Either purchase a larger one or start cleaning out the one you have?

Macs with a FireWire port will also boot happily from an External drive. You don't even need to open the MacBook.
Some users buy a drive they would like to have as a future Internal drive, and also buy an external enclosure. They get the External set up the way they want it, then swap with the Internal drive.

If it's an ibook then you can't - they can currently only be read in the iBooks app on an iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch (there isn't even a Mac or PC reader for them).

Can I use my 27"iMac late 2009 as an external display for a non apple product such as a cable box?

To get TV on your iMac off the cable box you would need to use an external TV tuner device such as the company ElGato is highly regarded for.  I have used one of their EyeTV products for many years with my iMac to watch television shows from my Comcasst cable TV box.  You can look at the models here:

  • Can I approve a purchase from a non-Apple product?

I need to approve my daughter's purchases on her iPhone from a non-apple product. Is this possible?

Assuming you are using Family Sharing, no there is no way to do that.

  • Airport Express works fine with non-Apple products???

I've owned my Airport Express for 2 years now and never a problem until this morning.  Now, the airport express is powered on, green light and all, connected to cable modem, but my Early 2008 Macbook Pro and iPhone 4 will not connect to it.  Funny though, because it shows up in my list of networks on both devices.  When I try to select it from the list (of course it used to connect automatically, now it doesn't connect at all), neither the MBP nor the iPhone can establish a connection with it.  Sometimes the iPhone asks for a password, even though the password hasn't changed and it is stored in the device.  It should also be noted that both the iPhone 4 and MBP can still see and connect to my neighbors' wireless routers within range.
Now for the really weird part: the Airport Express still connects to and performs at 100% with other devices, including 1) my Dell running Windows Vista, 2) my XBox 360, 3) HTC Thunderbolt phone, and 4) a Sony Blu Ray player with wireless internet capabilities.  I have power cycled all of the equipment at least 5 times, and all of the non-Apple devices continue to connect to the Airport Express just fine, while the iPhone 4 and MBP cannot connect.  I have even installed Airport Utility on the Dell and did a full factory reset of the Airport Express, but that didn't fix the problem either.
    What is going on here?

At first we could plug the Dell in directly but that was before setting up the AX. Now that the AX works the Dell cannnot connect even wired. (It says that it's connected but it cannot find server when you try to open a webpage). Could this be a problem that the moden cannot go between Mac & windows?
Most modems tend to "remember" the last device connected to it, so it's important to do a complete power-down/power-up when switching devices. It's possible that your modem did this when you attempted to connect the PC directly. My purpose of having you connect the PC directly was to verify that it can access the Internet with a wired connection and that it's wireless setting needs to be troubleshot further.
The power recycle process should be something like the following:
    - Power-off the modem & AX; If possible, leave the modem off overnight.
    - Power-on the modem; Wait at least 30 minutes.
    - Power-on the AX; Wait at least 5 minutes.

  • Macbook pro internet sharing to non apple with password ?

    Hi there,
I have a MacBook pro, in my place I connect to the Internet through LAN cable, and I have 3 friends who I share the Internet with (Windows)
When I share my Internet with them I cannot put a password (40-bit or 128-bit) because when I do their laptops says password is wrong
So I leave it without one, and that gives me a big headache because my network is exposed to every one and I’ll have a slow Internet speed
I am searching for an answer since forever , Is there a way to protect my network ?
to have a password and let other non apple laptops access my network?

It hardly matters. The only security available with Internet Sharing is WEP, which can be cracked by anyone in a few minutes. Use a real wireless router with real security, or don't bother with security at all and accept the consequences.

  • Non-Apple Product for Powerbook G4 12"

I often do chatting online with friends, so i wish to have a webcam, can I use NON-Apple webcam for my powerbook G4 12" 1GHz Combo Drive?
Mine is a Combo drive, I wish to upgrape it to DVD burner, again! Any NON-Apple DVD burner(internal/external) for my notebook?
Please recommend one or two to me, i will feel very grateful! Thanks in advance!

personally dont recommend it. Non apple batteries in my experience are more prone to overheating. Ebay is the best source for these... but again you may be able to find an apple battery there too.
I got a brand new one for around $50 off ebay.
    best of luck!

  • Does Airport express can be used for other non-apple products, such as lenovo laptop?

Can someone plesase help me? I am so confuse on the apple products?

Its a wireless router - NOT a modem - You need to subscribe with an Internet Service Provider (ISP) operating in your domain (Country).
You normally pay the ISP monthly for Internet access and many/most will supply you with a modem as part of the package.
Most ISPs deliver the Internet access down your existing fixed telephone line - this is either ADSL or DSL and its very common for the ISP modem device to incorporate built on Wifi functionality.
This means you do not need to buy an Airport Express/Extreme at all.
Caveat the "free" modem/routers are frequently prior models and almost always require firmware updates for optimum performance.
However if your chosen ISP delivers your Internet access over fibre cable these companies usually provide a simple modem and to provide the wireless routing an Airport Express may be ideal

  • Airport Extreme won't work with non apple products?

this is a recent problem after years on working ok.

You have not given us enough info to say anything. you haven't asked a question.
AE work fine as AP with non-apple clients.
I have multiple phones and wireless devices from numerous brands working with AE and TC.
What you might find is that naming of the AE has become more of a problem.. so you need to use SMB naming.. ie short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric, for the AE itself and the wireless SSID.
You might also find the latest firmware upgrade did nobody any good. If your AE is the flat one, go back to 7.6.1 which IMHO works better.
If your AE is old it could be just faulty.. it might need replacement.
If you want to do things like wireless extend, then there are huge issues with mixing apple and non-apple wireless routers.. but that is not new.. it has been an issues since Apple routers came out.

  • TS1702 ipod touch pair with non apple products

Can ipod touch pair with non apple products

It can pair with other devices that support the BT profiles included on the iPod . See:
    iOS: Supported Bluetooth profiles
Basically, it can pair with headphones, speaker, keyboards. it can't pair with another phone or computer.

  • Using skype on iPad with a non apple product

I WANT to download the Skype for iPad but have read there is an issue using an iPad Air with Skype and the calls are dropped. This will not be with another apple user so I want to try skype since she is able to use it from her android. Should this be possible? Appreciate any answers. I would try doing this from my iPad not using my cell phone but if that would work I would be interested to know if others have used either one or both.  Thank you so much!

Look at this link about setting up Skype on the iPad.
