Macbook Duo Core Superdrive with DVD+R DL

Hey guys
3 questions!
1)
Can the first generation Macbook Superdrive with:
"Slot-loading SuperDrive with double-layer read support (DVD+R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW): writes DVD-R and DVD+R discs at up to 4x speed, writes DVD-RW and DVD+RW discs at up to 4x speed, reads DVDs at up to 8x speed, writes CD-R discs at up to 24x speed, writes CD-RW discs at up to 10x speed, reads CDs at up to 24x speed"
Able to read DVD+R DL?
2)
Also, i backed up my tiger DVD onto an external HDD in a .dmg image form.. however i do not have a DVD+DL writer in my Mac but i do have one in my PC. Any PC softwares to recommend?
Is it reliable to change the image extension from .dmg to .iso then burn it in Nero?
3) any better softwares?

1) Yes, It'll read Dual-Layer +R DVD's.
2) Nero burns DMG into bootable images.
3) Alcohol 120% does the same thing, and I like it better.

PowerISO also burns and views DMG, it's my favorite.

  • I have a 2006 model macbook duo core with 10.4.11, can I somehow upgrade to lion?

My 2006 Duo Core Macbook has OS X 10.4.11.  Can I upgrade this computer to Lion or do I need to buy a new one?  Computer is in great shape and would like to keep it.  Any info would be awesome.  Thanks!
    Dave

If it's a Core Duo model than you can upgrade only as far as Snow Leopard 10.6.8. A Core 2 Duo or better is needed for Lion.
You can purchase a Snow Leopard DVD for $29.00 at any Apple retailer of from the Online Store.
How to Install OS X Updates Successfully
    A. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions:
Boot from your current OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. Then select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger) and/or TechTool Pro (4.5.2 for Tiger) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    B. Make a Bootable Backup Using Restore Option of Disk Utility:
Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
Select the destination volume from the left side list.
Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
Check the box labeled Erase destination.
Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the external backup drive. Source means the internal startup drive.
    C. Important: Please read before installing:
If you have a FireWire hard drive connected, disconnect it before installing the update unless you will boot from this drive and install the update on it. Reconnect it and turn it back on after installation is complete and you've restarted.
You may experience unexpected results if you have installed third-party system software modifications, or if you have modified the operating system through other means. (This does not apply to normal application software installation.)
The installation process should not be interrupted. If a power outage or other interruption occurs during installation, use the standalone installer (see below) from Apple Downloads to update.  While the installation is in progress do not use the computer.
    D. To upgrade:
Purchase the Snow Leopard Retail DVD.
Boot From The OS X Installer Disc:
Insert OS X Installer Disc into the optical drive.
    Restart the computer.
Immediately after the chime press and hold down the "C" key.
Release the key when the spinning gear below the dark gray Apple logo appears.
Wait for installer to finish loading.
    E. If updating:
    Download and install update(s)
    Use Software Update, or
    Download standalone updater(s).

  • MacBook Duo Core upgradeable to 802.11n?

Sorry if this has been asked before.
But just wondering if it's possible to upgrade my Macbook to wireless N. I bought my first ever Macbook last year and only months later they came out with the Duo 2 Core version with wireless n which really ****** me off

Are you sure Apple is selling it in the Apple store. I could not find the upgrade there. As far as I know you have two choices for the N upgrade for the Core Duo machines.
You ca buy the 802.11n MacBook module and install it yourself. There are places that sell the module online. You also can have one of the companies that sell the modules to install it for you. This is what I recommend unless you are comfortable tearing down the MacBook to replace the card.
The following is a company that sells the module.

  • Imac Ram replacement in aluminum duo core now with three beeps!!

Ok, I had a 2 gig stick in a bought a 1 gig stick to put in the other slot. As it turns out both sticks are made by the same manufacturer (Hynix) and both are pc2-5300s-555-12. I put in the 1 gig and got the three beeps with both sticks in. I took out the 1 gig and still with the beeps. I take the 2 gig out and put the 1 gig in it's place and it boots up. I put the 2 gig in the other slot...beeps. I don't understand what happened or why the 2 gig won't work in it's original slot anymore.

    Hi Cothirteen
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
Perhaps the original module was not fully seated in the slot or popped out when you were adding the second module. Likewise it takes quite a bit of force to fully seat a module in a slot that has never had ram installed in it.
Following the instructions in the link below, it may require a second person to steady the iMac so that you can press real hard on each module with both thumbs.

  • Upgrade to new duo core macbook

Can anyone tell me if my software designed for my ibook G3 (or soft ware for the G4 for that matter) will run if I upgrade to the new macbook duo core??

Hi, and welcome to Apple Discussions.
That depends on what software you're talking about.
Anything that runs in Classic won't work. Most other applications should work through Rosetta (emulation for Power PC applications written for OS X).

Newer mac's use the following lcd part #'s:
    LP171WU6-TLA2, LP171WU6-TLB1, LP171WU6-TLB2, LTN170CT10
    My question:
Will the newer lcd's work as a replacement for my older one?
Anyone with the technical knowledge on this please reply.

    Another option:
This site states the: LP171WE2-TL-03 is interchangeable with the LP171WE2-TL-A1.

My MacBook Pro, 1.83 GHz Intel Core Duo gives me an error message during Lion install. My Intel Duo Core is not an Intel Duo Core and cannot install Lion.  I already have Snow Leopard what is the problem with Lion?

You need a "Core 2 Duo" for lion, and I'm guessing you only have a "Core Duo"  My wife's macbook is also a "Core Duo" and has Snow Leapord, but cannot install Lion.....

My MacBook Pro Core Duo from 2006 shuts down randomly requiring frequent reboots to the point I had to abandon doing any project or anything on this MacBook Pro. Same thing occurs with the iMac dual core from 2007. MacBook battery replaced. Is it internal battery for both, new logic board required, bad hard drive, or bad RAM?
    Help.

Run an Apple Hardware Test using the original installation disk that has the AHT instructions on it.
    Try SMC and PRAM resets:

It is possible that you may need a new PRAM battery.

  • Macbook Pro Core Duo Charger with a Core 2 Duo?

Just wanted to make sure that I can safely use the charger from my Core Duo at work with my Core 2 Duo Macbook Pro.
    Thanks for any insight...

The MBP requires the heavy duty 85 watt charger. You should not use the charger for a MB. If both of your computers are MBPs, then the chargers are interchangeable.

  • Macbook Pro Core Duo 2.16Ghz with 1GB+2GB memory module

Is it possible to install an 2gb modulle along with my 1gb module witch came standard with my macbook pro Core Duo 2.16Ghz?
Im thinking about the following modulle:
    Kingston KTA-MB667/2G
    (Any other suggestions?)
And just for my information is it possible to install 2x 2gb memory?
    Thanks!

But i still have a few questions:
Is the 2gb modulle not supported or the total of 3gb
    is not supported?
I want to know it absolutely 100% for sure becouse i
would love the 2gb addition. And i don't want a buy
    something wrong :P
From what I have read in various forums a single 2GB module will work in the Core Duo machines. 3GB is not supported however. People who have tried adding 3GB (2GB +1GB) to a Core Duo report the computer would not boot.
I am not sure why you would want to use a single 2GB module though. Perhaps if you were wanting to upgrade to a Core 2 Duo later?
I would say if your going to try to use a single 2GB module understand the risks. i.e. I don't how much people actually tested for stability etc. other than to try it and say yeah it works. You do loose the dual-channel configuration for whatever that is worth.
I would make sure you purchase from a place that has a liberal return policy if your going to try it. Just in case your not happy with it.

  • MacBook Pro - Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz - 13.3? - 4 GB Ram - 250 GB HDD?

Just got a Apple MacBook Pro - Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz - 13.3? - 4 GB Ram - 250 GB HDD. i clicked on boot camp then it asked to download windows files or said i already have. i picked already had thinking it meant the windows 7 x64 dvd. i then made the windows 7 partition 50gb and the remainder was SL. after installing windows 7 x64 windows started up. i then installed the boot camp drivers off the SL dvd and i think that version was 2.1. after installing them i then updated boot camp from 2.1 to 3.0 to 3.1 then 3.2. after this my video card which is a NVIDIA 320 showed up as a standard VGA and i was missing my SM Bus and Coprocesser driver. i read something about getting the drivers from here to fix it D:\Boot Camp\Drivers\NVidia\NVidiaChipset.exe (D meaning your dvd drive) but i didn't see that file on there. i saw version on there for every OS but windows 7 x64. not sure how to fix this can someone help me in what i am doing wrong. i was going to just delete the windows partition again and start over.
so i started over and reinstalled windows 7 x64 again. i was able to get the video card driver for the 320 NVidia of NVidia's website. so now my video is working but now its saying i have 3 missing drivers. Bluetooth, Coprocessor and SM Bus... i have tried everything to get these drives install. tried everything i have found online but can't get it working. this was the last one i tried here: http://realitypod.com/2010/09/solved-macbook-pro-running-windows-7-missing-sm-bu s-driver/ but the problem is on my Snow Leopard Retail 10.6 disc i don't see this file "D:\Boot Camp\Drivers\NVidia\NVidiaChipset64.exe" tried going to the vista64 folder on the disc for SM Bus and it wouldn't install anything.
    please help
    Thanks!

Your OEM DVD for OS X has the latest drivers, which would be 3.x
Luckily you skipped DL drivers, that is broken with 10.6.6, wrong reason, right response.
You don't want retail OS X DVD if you have a NEW Mac, you should have OEM DVD from Apple.
Apple though doesn't probably list "Windows 7" though it should, or have "Vista/7" or just "Bootcamp64.msi"
Uninstall drivers, rollback drivers, and/or uninstall programs, rather than redo everything.
