MacBook DVD player error scratched CD

I bought a DVD film and while watching halfway through the show the player stopped and reported an error. CD may be scratched, it said. I returned the dvd where I bought it from, and purchased the same movie from another source.
Same problem. In between these I watched several movies and this problem only happened twice. Restarted the MacBook and it continued from where it stoped. But NOT with the movie I replaced.
Any suggestion? No, no, no, I got rid of all of my VCR's and the players too.
By the way it is a Roger Moore movie named GOLD. Beware :-))
I would like to finish it one day.

Version 2.7 of the DVD Player appears to be the correct version for your configuration; any computer which can use the 2.0 beta which came with some 8.6 versions can use version 2.7. No iMac is compatible with version 1.x of the Apple DVD Player.

  • DVD Player error -69902?

I've successfully played DVDs on my iMac (24" 2.4 GHz Aluminum) -- Front Row works like a charm! However, I've recently encountered a DVD that has issues with my computer:
A couple of weeks ago I received the Beatles' "Help!" two-DVD set in timely fashion after ordering it through Amazon.ca. Unfortunately, although the second disc works perfectly on my computer (a 2007 Apple iMac 24" 2.4 GHz Intel Core Duo with 2 GB of RAM), the first disc will not play past the FBI warning and the opening page (where Play, Subtitles, Settings, Chapters is located). Whether I use either Front Row or DVD player, the result is the same: when I insert the disc into my computer, I am presented with the error message "Skipping Over Damaged Area". If, in DVD Player, I click on "Title" in order to change chapters, an error message pops up informing me "DVD Player encountered a system error. Error -69902". And in DVD Player, I am informed that this disc contains only one chapter. In any case, when I'm on the Help! opening page & I click on "Play" (in either DVD player or Front Row), nothing happens. No movie. The music keeps looping on the opening page, but not much more than that.
Out of curiosity, I tried playing this same disc on a standalone Toshiba DVD player hooked up to my home TV, and amazingly, the disc plays fine!
After emailing Amazon, I was instructed to return the DVD for a replacement, which arrived in the mail today. Imagine my surprise when the replacement displayed the same error messages! Before I return this disc for a refund, maybe someone can fill me in: what is DVD Player error -69902?

  • How do I get past "can't find valid dvd player" error?

This is regarding a G4 powermac running Tiger 10.4.3
My Sony dual layer DRX-720UL/T seems to work fine with DVD-ROM content. My kids use it for DVD-ROM games and I had no problem installing Tiger. Problem comes in when I open "DVD player" and get a "Can't find valid dvd player," error. They're connected via Firewire 400, and I've tried the USB link, just to see, but the same error comes up. I'm fairly certain that I viewed a DVD before upgrading to Tiger. The Sony is supposed to be fully mac compatiable, and even comes with Toast light 6. Again all seems to be well except for the fact that DVD player won't allow me to view a NTSC DVD. No matter how many I try.

What drive was in this G4 prior?
If you did not have a DVD drive, you need to use Pacifist to extract & install DVD Player.app; downloading or drag&drop won't work.
Also, Sony drives are probably the worst when it comes to compatability; one specific model may work fine, and others not. This should be less of an issue in Tiger, but only if the problem is other than the optical drive firmware, about which you can do nothing (on a Mac), unlike Pioneer & NEC drives that have mac-based flashers available.
If DVD Player was installed previously, based on having a DVD drive prior to Tiger install, you may want to try running the 10.4.3 Combo updater over your existing install.

  • DVD Player error 69889,  Mountain Lion 10.8.5

Suddenly my MacBook Pro has stopped reading some DVDs.   The DVD loads and then stops with a blank screen and error message 69889.  I have seen prior posts that advise deleting specific settings in the Application Support folder. Unfortunately, I cannot locate the DVD player folder.  IT does not appear as a subfolder of the Application Support folder.
I download VLC DVD player and the DVDs work fine with it.   I would like to fix the problem with the OSX DVD player.  Any suggestions on the exact path the the DVD Player/Settings folder?
    Thanks

Might be corrupted DVD Player preferences...
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
    ~/LIbrary/Preferences/com.apple.DVDPlayer.plist
Click Go then move the com.apple.DVDPlayer.plist file to the Trash.
    Restart your Mac.

  • Why is my macbook DVD player no longer playing commercial DVD's that it used to play perfectly? It reads the disc, but then says not permitted when I hit play. It is much older than 12 months warantee so I hope there is an easy fix?

The macbook reads a disc, and opens up DVD player but then says not permitted when I hit play, or any other button. Sometimes the initial music plays, but the screen remains black and then it all stops. These are shop bought DVD's that have previously worked on here, and work in DVD players, but have suddenly stopped. The computer is much older than the12 months warantee so I hope there is an easy fix? Thankyou!

    Three things you can try:
    1. Clean the superdrive with a proprietory CD/DVD lens cleaner that uses tiny brushes.
    2. Perform an SMC reset:
Resetting the SMC (System Management Controller) on Intel-based Macs:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964  and
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1237?viewlocale=en_US
Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379
If you are using a Wireless Keyboard:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3273
    3. Try the free DVD player VLC:

which performs better than the built-in DVD Player.

  • No audio on idvd burned disc- sound plays on TV fine but not on macbook DVD player

First time posting, so please excuse any naivete
Hi there, I'm having the opposite problem of many of the questions I've read on here- the audio on my burned disc won't play on my computer but is fine on my TV.  I am running the latest version of idvd on a 2008 macbook. The music for the menu is a .m4a file (?) imported from itunes and the movie is an imported project from imovie.  Both play fine in idvd preview and I have burned discs of this project before with no problems.  This time  I burned one disc through idvd, discovered the missing audio, deleted the encoded assets and re- encoded before  saving the disk image and burning another dvd through disk utility. Both dvds are having this problem .  I checked sound on my system preferences, it's on- though I can't find the "main audio" that was mentioned in another thread.  Maybe I don't have enough space on my startup disk?  I've been trashing some things to free up space, but I'm not sure where to check to see how much space I have.
I'm sending these dvds out as part of job applications so they need to be able to play right on whatever the reviewer uses (mac, pc, tv etc.)- is there a way to ensure it will work universally?
    Thanks!

Ok.  This is embarrassing.  Just saw that the sound was turned down on my DVD player on my macbook though not on my computer.  Sometimes the simplest explanation is the best.

  • Apple DVD PLAYER ERROR

After installing 10.5, opening Dvd player i received this error
    There was an initialization error
A valid video device could not be found for playback [-70017]
I've searched all over the forums with no solutions.
i know its not a big problem with leopard but any workarounds would be apprec.
The apple dvd player is version 5.0

now I do not know if this is just me but I have had issues with the DVD player
I played a DVD from a one on the older iDVD software (before iLife 08)
the DVD would work in Tiger fine
I downloaded Leopard, now i get a message if i select "play from beginning of the disk" "skipping over damaged areas"
this also caused the DVD player to not play on my mac and the DVD player locked up
I then tried selecting "begin from last time played and everything worked fine"
the DVD player did not lock up
this is definitely I feel a bug but i wonder if anyone else has had the similar issue

  • DVD player error

    I have a new 15" PowerBook.
The DVD player is not working.
I get the following message pop up:
    There was an initialization error
    Error: -43
Apple support say it is a software error and that I should wipe everything and reload.
I don't really want to go through all that and was just checking to see if anyone else had experienced this and maybe had a quick fix.

Im having problems with DVD player 4.6.5 on a Powerbook g4 1.5ghz 750 ram, os10.4.4
dvds start to play with a black screen and then freeze the whole system - even alt-apple-escape to force quit out of dvd player
    takes ages to respond
I went from os 10.3.3 to 10.4.0 (after a total disk erase, zeroed data) and did the update online straight after to 10.4.4
I also have 10.4.4 on a dual 450 g4 which I recently updated and it has none of the same problems
Im amazed that a solution to this is not easier to find on apples site - its obvious that it is happening to several people
    Has anyone found a solution???
Toast still seems to work fine so I think perhaps its something to do with the way the new os/dvd player decodes the video off the dvd - perhaps there is some incompatibility between hardware and software in this area?
I wonder from what version of DVD player this started happening - I had version 4.0 working fine when I was running os10.3.3
Does anyone know if quicktime is involved at all in the playing of dvds?? and if that might be causing a problem. I noticed a quicktime installer that goes a few versions backwards from 7.0.3 or 4 (never a good sign) but no explanation to say why on the download page
Powerbook g4 1.5ghz 750 ram (and while Im thinking of ram..... Im really annoyed at Apple for putting 2 x 256 ram chips in the powerbook g4. When I ordered a 512 ram chip along with the laptop I assumed it would take me up to 1gig but no - when I got the machine and opened it up I found out instead of apple putting one 512 chip inside that I would have to take one of the two 256 chips out in order to get the 512 one in!!!!! so I only got an extra 256meg for the price of 512 - and a 1gig chip costs 300euro!!! )

when attempting to play a dvd recv'd Error codes
    -7001 & -32.
    What do they mean?!
    jc
In the thread "PLEASE HELP- region codes" in "Discussions > iDVD > iDVD4 and earlier", using Panther I reported " I inserted a different region code disc, got the message that I only have 3 changes left, then the error -70001. "
After upgrading to Tiger last August I reported " just upgraded to Tiger 10.4.0 and the problem was still there.
Then I installed the software updates to 10.4.2 and DVDPlayer 4.6: I am now allowed to change the region code."
Howwever, last month I had the problem again, possibly after installing 10.4.3: "3 changes left" and "error code -70001" on inserting a disc with a different region code.
The solution I found was to use VLC, a DVD player which ignores the region code, rather than the mac os X DVDPlayer.

  • Any way to resolve DVD player error 69902?

I was playing a brand new DVD and half way through the DVD it started skipping and the DVD player showed error: -69902? Is there a actually bug fix rather than just using VLC?

According to another user, this error denotes a faulty disk. In other words, you might want to ask the manufacturer for a replacement. It's best to contact the mfr because they have no doubt had exposure to the same error, and realize it's an effect of faulty manufacturing.

  • Capturing on my G4 using my Macbook DVD player

    Hi,
I'm trying to capture some footage into a FCP project using my Macbook pro DVD player. Is this possible? I tried connecting the Macbook through a fire wire and the log and capture is not recognizing it. Any suggestions, or should I use a normal DVD player and capture through my coverter?
    Thanx,
    John

    Jim,
Thanx for the quick response. I do have permission. It's for an actor's demo reel. Would you mind elaborating a little bit on the free mpeg streamclip. This is brand new information to me.
    Thanx again,

  • DVD Player error: not compatible with OS

Trying to fix a coworkers G5. She has 10.5.8 running, and can't play any DVDs. She is up to date on all software updates.
When I went to the DVD player settings, I couldn't choose "DVD Player". When I tried to open the application it told me that DVD Player is not compatible with this version of the OS X.
Can I reinstall that application? If so, where do I find it? Is it on the system installation disk? Do I need to do a reinstall of OS X?? Any other options?
    Thanks for any help given.
