MacBook EFI Firmware version confusion.

According to the Apple support page the latest MacBook EFI Firmware version is:
MB11.0061.B03
My current version is (dug from the About This Mac):
Boot ROM Version: MB21.00A5.B00
SMC Version: 1.13f3
If I try to download and run the version from the Apple website (MB11) the updater reports that the update is not necessary.
My question is, do I really have the latest version? If so, why isn't it listed on the website?
Thanks in advance,
Victor.

Mine also has the same:
Boot ROM Version: MB21.00A5.B00
SMC Version: 1.13f3
I say based on all the screw-ups of the first gen MB forget about it and be happy that the 2nd gen MB seems to be more stable and problem free...so far

  • MacBook EFI Firmware Update--Version 1.2

Dear Guys, the computer simply hangs there when it is running the installation of this MACBOOK EFI FIRMWARE UPDATE--VERSION 1.2
This problem has persisted for the past 2 weeks or so since this Version 1.2 came about. Any idea?
    THANKS.

Down the update manually from here:

Be very very sure to select the correct one.
Install this one and see if it works. Usually this is a better way anyway.

  • Installing MacBook EFI Firmware Update 1.0

Hi everyone, I'm trying to install MacBook EFI Firmware Update 1.0 on my macbook so i can use bootcamp, but when I launch the update it says I don't need to update my mac even if my version of boot rom is MB11.0061.B02 and this will install MB11.0061.B03.
    Hope someone could help me.

I can't find anything conclusive regarding the problem that you and speddish are having. The only thing that had come to mind was 10.4.10 - and perhaps the update thinking that (as apparently some third party apps have) that the OS was actually 10.4.1. and not 10.4.6 or higher (as required). Logically though, I would assume that, if it were the case, the updater would make mention of it.
The only thing that I can think of (and it's a bit of a pain) is to downgrade to a previous version such as 10.4.9 and try again. I'll keep looking...

  • Macbook efi firmware update 1.1 will not install

When I check for software updates, there is an update that is labeled "Macbook EFI firmware update 1.1", I click on the button to install it, a message is displayed that the update was installed successfuly, I click on the "OK" button, it checks for updates again a message is displayed that "Your software is up to date". When I click on the "Quit" button a Windows opens displaying a message about the firmware update and I have to click on the "Shut down" button. The system shuts down, when I turn it back on and check for software updates again the "Macbook EFI firmware update 1.1" is listed again, I have been through this 3 times, it says it installs but when I check again it still shows up as an update that needs to be installed and the firmware version has not changed as is should if the update did in fact install, what am I missing???

Firmware update 1.1 is a very old update for 10.4 http://support.apple.com/kb/DL207 I have no idea why it would be showing up on your MacBook.

  • Can't install new MacBook EFI Firmware Update 1.2

Hi all. I've tried to update to the newly released MacBook EFI Firmware Update 1.2, but when I go to run it, it says that my MacBook doesn't need updating. I know that I'm on the older 1.0 Firmware with Boot ROM Version MB21.00A5.B07. Any guesses as to why this new update won't run on my MacBook? It's supposed to be for all versions. Thanks for your help.

Are you getting this update from the automatic updater? If not, you don't need it and you certainly don't want it.
Unlike software updates, one should never attempt to install a firmware update that is not specifically designed for that machine. Downloading and attempting to install firmware that is not correct can result in corrupted EFI and the need for the firmware restore CD.
You did make a firmware restore CD as instructed, I hope. It's the first step.

  • /Applications/Utilities/MacBook EFI Firmware Update... Missing?!

Hey folks, I've done a search of the forums but to no avail. A Google search has turned up precisely nothing like what I'm experiencing here. I have no idea if it's normal or if my wee 'Book's playing up.
Basically, in checking my RSS feeds, I was informed of the release of a new firmware update for C2D MacBooks, available via Software Update. I ran Software Update and... nothing. I decided I'd check in Apps/Utilities and use the EFI Updater to manually update my computer's firmware, but the utility seems to be missing altogether. Anyone else experienced this, or have any idea what's going on? It used to be there, and I can't really think of anything that might have made if go 'poof!'
I realise this isn't exactly a major issue, but I can't say I'm at ease with the disappearance of bits and bobs from my Mac.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
    Gray.

Well if it's any consolation Leopard seems to have thrown over the generic EFI Updater that used to fly standby on my MacBook, but apparently left a new one or left the newer one that may well have been abandoned on my iMac after that rather disconcerting task was deemed necessary a few months prior.
Seems that the updater app comes with the new image whenever and however the time to update becomes a pressing concern so maybe space saving has something to do with the policy.
There does seem to be a colorful spectrum of issues surrounding the ins and outs of EFI firmware notifications and techniques from platform version to another but
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303364
clears up any confusion pretty much and
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1237
seems to nail down which chicken goes in which pot. Nonetheless I picked up a bum steer at Apple Support Downloads yesterday over that shiny new "iMac EFI Firmware Update 1.3" delightfulness recently trotted out as better than sliced bread for something they refer to as an iMac!
So joyful I was at the thrill of being ahead of the line I I dropped everything, downloaded and installed it, but only to be politely informed that my unit was lacking any of the discomforts it was intended to relieve. It's nice to get something for nothing but I kind of wish I could say the same :P

  • New MacBook EFI Firmware Update 1.0 update

"This EFI Firmware Update fixes known start up and wake-from-sleep issues on MacBook computers. If the firmware update doesn't run automatically, open it manually in the /Applications/Utilities folder."
    Just to let you know.

just installed. i've had some serious trouble with my macbook the past couple of months. sometimes, i would shut my macbook and it wouldn't sleep, or it'd take a little while to shut down.
tested it, so far so good. took a little while to install and holding down the power button was a little scary.

  • MacBook EFI Firmware has the popping noise gone for you?

Installed the firmware upgrade today and eagerly hoped the annoying popping noise would magically disappear. Hope disappeared instead - it is still popping away. Any one else have a different experience?

I installed the EFI Firmware update 1.5 on April 14th. I'm using a Motu 828mkII with GarageBand and Logic and I now have the popping noise (a "vinyl", popping sound that seems to happen during recording, sometimes during playback).
Does anyone know why this was introduced? From other posts it appears that this was already a problem but I never had it until I installed the 1.5 update.
Another reason to not take the latest updates i guess...this is really frustrating. I also updated my Motu drivers but that did nothing. It appears this is definitely related to the firmware since I see all the other posts here in the Apple support forums.
    Anyone from Apple out there??

  • Software Update Failed - MacBook EFI Firmware Update 1.4

Superdrive Firmware Update 3.0 fails each time, /Applications/Utilities/SuperDrive Update.app asks me to quit all apps and try again which I did but of no help. I also retried with a reboot. Help!

What are we talking about: EFI firmware update or superdrive firmware update? What generation of MB do you have? Was any update detected by Software Update? How does it fail? is there any message? hos do you proceed?

  • MacBook EFI Firmware Update 1.2

I recently installed EFI update 1.2. To confirm I checked BootRom version, which is MB21.00A5.B07. This differs from the release notes, which call for MP11.005C.B08 or MP21.007F.B06. Can anyone explain what is going on here. BTW, I am not running Bootcamp, so I probably don't need the update!
    Eddie

I think you mistakenly install updater for mac pro http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macproefifirmwareupdate12.html which is not necessary for macbook, and macbook updater is still ver. 1.1 that will give you this boot version: MB21.00A5.B07

  • Macbook EFI Firmware Update v1.2?

I have a 1.83 GHz C2D (late 2006) Macbook, is this newly released firmware update (v1.2) not for my model?
I've tried installing it and it tells me 'Your computer does not need this update'? However i've read on appleinsider that this update version is for all Macbooks, and the Apple Support site doesn't state any specific models? (and yes, I do have a GUID partition if anyone was wondering)
Cheers for anyone who can help

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1237
With the site above, scroll down to the MacBook section... perhaps this indicates that v1.2 is in fact only for Late 2007 MacBook models and not all of the MacBook generation???
If thats the case, Apple might want to consider adding a little more to their 'System Requirements' section and not be so lazy!!!!

  • Macbook EFI Firmware update 1.1

    hi,
I don't know if anyone else is having this problem, software update has downloaded and installed the same update about 8 times now, each time it says the installation is sucessful.

Supposedly the Software Update version is supposed put it in the /Applications/Utilities directory and run it automatically. There are additional steps needed to complete the firmware update. If you didn't do these things, it may attempt to reinstall the package until it senses the latest firmware build is installed. You might try downloading Firmware Update 1.2:
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macbookefifirmwareupdate12.html
It loads a program that you then need to run in order to update your firmware.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1557?viewlocale=en_US
    4. Double-click the appropriate package for your computer to start the firmware update process. (The installer puts the Firmware Updater in the /Applications/Utilities folder, and launches it automatically.)
    5. Read the onscreen instructions and click Shut Down to proceed with the update. The firmware image will be loaded on your machine, and your machine will shut down, but the update will not be installed until the next step.
    6. Hold down the power button until the power indicator light flashes, then release it. A long tone will be heard, then a gray screen with an Apple logo appears. There is a progress bar under the logo. As the progress bar moves, your firmware is being updated.
Important: Do not unplug, shutdown, or restart your computer while the update is taking place. Interrupting a firmware update can render your computer unusable. If this happens, take your machine to an Apple store or authorized service provider or perform the recovery yourself using another Macintosh computer to download the Firmware Restoration CD disk image from http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/. This software allows you to create a CD which you can use to restore your machine to working order.
    Installation takes a few minutes.
    7. After your firmware has been updated, your machine will restart.
    8. After you log in, a dialog box will appear indicating the firmware update has been successful. Click OK to dismiss this dialog.
I didn't quite figure out all these steps. You can manually run the Firmware Updater from the /Applications/Utilities directory.

  • Macbook EFI firmware update 2.7 update and now my wifi doesn't work!

I did the EFI 2.7 update and now when I open the laptop from sleep on any wifi network it does work, and says im connected in wireless yet on safari im "not connected to the internet" after switching from one wifi network and then back to the original and waiting 30 seconds it finally works, i shouldnt have to fiddle and screw around with wifi on this computer when before the update it worked fine. I expect a fix from apple dang fast or if some one can tell me how to uninstall it, because it did nothing but ruin my computer experience. Very upset with apple right now.

I had the same problem, but was able to solve it by resetting the SMC control..
    1) Power off the machine
    2) HOLD OPTION + CONTROL + SHIFT + PRESS POWER BUTTON
    3) Then release,
    4) THEN POWER ON normally
    This worked for me..

Also, my version of MacBook EFI Firmware Update is at 1.2
I have that same 1.2 update on my new Macbook Pro. It transferred over when I used set up assistant to migrate everything over from my old Macbook Pro. That 1.2 came originally in 2006 I believe. As it stated it will not run on your current machine - I got the same message. According to your specs above which are identical to mine you don't need this current update, you already have a later one on your machine as I do. There's nothing that you need to do.

  • Macbook pro efi firmware update application

    Hi all,
I was wondering if there, by default, supposed to be a macbook pro efi firmware update app for the macbook pro. Because for me, there is not one present in my utilities folder.
On my other macbook, there is a macbook efi firmware update app.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Regards,
    Ramy

    Hi Ramy,
a firmware update always comes with its own installer app when you download the update.
There is no 'default' installer app already on your Mac.
Once the firmware update has been made successfuly you can usually delete the installer from the utilities folder.
    Regards
    Stefan
