Macbook external moniter question

hello,
i am looking to buy a new external monitor for my macbook (early 2007 model), but im not sure which one will work with my computer. I have two specific monitors in mind, will either of these work with a GMA 950 chipset?
samsung 1920x1080 Full HD
Samsung 1360×768

Hi DrDakota,
Both of those monitors will work just fine:

Just make sure to get the appropriate Mini-DVI to VGA (or DVI) adapter for your monitor.

  • External moniter question

This may sound dumb but I'd rather ask then assume; I use my 13.3 Blackbook as desktop ie. it sits on a shelf in front of me and I use a bluetooth keyboard and mouse. For text I increase the font size so I don't have to squint to see but I would like to see pictures, video, and web pages better. Will a larger display ( I'm looking at a 19" widescreen Viewsonic ) increase the size of everything on screen or do pages, photos, video, ect... stay the same size? Also being the Blackbook's resolution is 1280x800 do I need to match that up with a moniter of the same resolution or will 1440x900 work? (1440x900 seems to be what most moniters are). I like using imovie and iphoto alot so I don't want any distortions.
Thank you very much for you replies.
    MacBook 2.00 2gb black   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

I am currently using my BlackBook with a Dell 2007WFP 20" display and it gives much bigger test than the built-in display.
It works so well that I am even considering using it as my main machine and selling the G5 iMac.

  • IBook G4 external moniter

Hi guys, this is my first question here on the Apple forums, so go easy on me please
I have a 800mhz iBook G4, running Leopard 10.5.8. I know, I know, it's not supported, but it works pretty darn well. I have also run Screen Spanning Doctor on it, so I can hook to a external moniter.
Here is my problem: I but the 'Book in clamshell mode (which I also enabled) when I boot it -- then I get to the login screen, which I believe is displayed at 1024 x 756. (it's a 1280 x 1024 monitor). I then login, the resolution switches to 1280 x 1024, and all goes well.
The problem is when I logout. The screen tries to switch resolution, but it gets stuck halfway, and the screen is left black. It's on, but it's black. I van only fix it by unplugging the mini-VGA adapter, and plugging it back in, which wakes up the laptops screen, and then puts it in mirror mode. I then have to put it in clamshell mode by sleepig it, and all that jazz.
Any ideas as to what's going on? I don't want to wear out the cable by unplugging it all the time, an I would like to have a full 32mb of VRAM going to the moniter too.
BTW, switching my resolution to 1024 x 756 before logging out doesn't help either.

This is no longer relevant, and it was archived, so lol I guess I'll mark it as answered.

  • Using iBook G4 and external moniter

I am using my iBook G4 and an external moniter at the same time. Here is the problem. Right now it uses the mirror display and I was wondering if there was a way that I could turn that off. I tried to use system preferences but it said that the "arrangement" icon has been hidden. Is there any way around this?

Or you can try this one:

Or you can use home sharing for free, but it will only allow you to play movies and music from itunes.
Or you can use any remote desktop software

  • New To MacBook Pro. Question re: External Hard Drive

I just purchased a Macbook Pro today. I used to have a Dell Inspiron on which I used a Western Digital 500GB My Book external hard drive to store my pictures and iTunes files.
My question is is that hard drive compatible with my new MacBook? I know the hard drive works with Macs, but I'm wondering if I can just plug it into the MacBook and have it work without having to reformat it and lose my data.

Wrt exFAT. The newest Macs ship with an exFAT driver included. This driver will probably also be part of the upcoming OS X 10.6.5 update.

  • Macbook pro 13" and external monitor question

    Hi,
    I got a mbp 13" 2010
    I would like to buy a  HP 2510i monitor http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=c02076507 &lang=en&cc=us&taskId=115&contentType=SupportFAQ&prodSeriesId=3757979&prodTypeId =382087
Today I brought my macbook to a computer store and connected it to a samsung monitor 27" using mini-display to hdmi cable.
When i mirrored the screens I got two black areas on the left and right. basically it wanst fullscreen. (macbook res is 1280x800, so I think I got the same resolution on the external monitor)
But when I disable the mirror option Its all good and supports 1080p resolution.
How can I get fullscreen(1080p) even when I am mirroring the screen? will this hp monitor be able to do this?
    thanx

You can change your screen resolution by going to system preferences and displays from there you can select the bes resolution. However you will never get is perfect as the ratio is different from your ho screen to your mac. You could either go without mirroring (what I do with my cinema display) or plug it into your screen and then shut your mac lid so the dock moves onto the ho screen and it becomes your only display. You would however need an external mouse and keyboard to control this.

  • What Do I Need To Run A External Moniter with a Macbook Pro?

I have a Mac Book Pro 13in Mid 2009 Model. I replaced the RAM to 8GB, I have an HDMI Converter cable to plug my mac book into my 21in moniter, but it seems like it is still lagging behind, with internet connection but the screen just cant keep up or something. Is that a graphics card issue or is there something else that I need to improve the video on my monitor.

    JimmyCheckers,
there’s not enough information to say for sure. If you watch a video which lags on your external monitor on your built-in display instead, does the lagging cease, or is the lagging also observable on the built-in display? If you completely download a video onto your internal disk before watching it, does it still lag on the external monitor? Does it lag on the built-in display?

  • Very frustrated. Macbook Pro to external monitor questions

    Hello all,
Long story short, I have a 13" late 2010 Macbook Pro and have been using my Moshi mini display to hdmi adapter to extend my display to either a television or a monitor. No matter the external display they both support 1080p yet when I plug my mbp into it, it can't scale correctly unless I underscan it. If i don't underscan it I lose half of my dock and the tool bar is invisible.
Underscanning it makes the text fuzzier and less sharp. Does anyone have a solution for this? Is it my adapter?

I had a similar experience with my external monitor - the MBP was in mirror mode and the external monitor's resolution was only as high as my MBP laptop monitor resolution.
The trick is you have to close the lid completely. You will see your TV shut off for a bit, but the catch is you then need a wireless keyboard or mouse to "wake" your computer up while the lid is closed. Only then will you get your full resolution on your TV. Give it a few seconds once you close it, then when having a wireless bluetooth mouse, wake it, and in about 3-5 seconds your TV should turn on.
I should note I'm using the same Mini Display port to HDMI out that you are. It works great, but took a while for me to realize that you have to close the lid on your laptop completely.

  • Using 2011 iMac as external display for new Retina macbook / port sharing question

I'd like to see if there is a way to use the firewire port on the back my 2011 iMac 27" when it's connected to my 2014 15" Retina Macbook.
The two work fine right now - the iMac is the main display for the macbook, but I wanted to know if there is a way to utilize the extra ports - namely the firewire port on the iMac through the Macbook. I've created aggregate devices before - would this be the way to go?
    Thanks!

    Hello gstern1994,
Yes you can. Form the article below you should be able to do that, just make sure that you plug in those devices when you have already set up the Target Display Mode on the iMac.

  • Backup to external drive question

Alright, so I have been trying to partition my Macbook HD for a little while now (to install Bootcamp), but it is now telling me to backup all data and format my HD.
So, after looking around for a little while, I found a backup program on the Apple download site called "SmartBackup". It says that I should be able to backup my information to any external HD. I have a 250GB external HD that is in NTFS format (so I can use it on my Windows Desktop, too).
My question is, will I have to partition the external drive to be in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format to do a proper backup? I've been a Mac user for a while, and this is my first time doing a full backup to an external HD. Also, if I partition my external drive, do you know if it will erase the data currently on the external drive?
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
may I suggest a setup for the external HD with two partitions, one for OSX and one for NTFS:
Open Disk Utility (found in Applications / System Applications) - choose your external drive from the left pane - go to the Partition Tab - from Volume Scheme choose two partitions - set the size of the partitions - click on Options to verify that GUID is set - click on the first partition and choose HFS+ as file format - click on the second partition and choose MS-DOS (is FAT32) as file system
Start the process by clicking on Partition.
To get NTFS (if wanted) for the second partition you have to reformat it while in Windows since Disk Utility can not do this.
Use SuperDuper http://www.shirt-pocket.com/SuperDuper/SuperDuperDescription.html to make a full bootable backup of your internal OSX system to the external HD (makes it easier to do what you need).
Caution: Using the a.m. procedure will delete all files that curently are on your external harddisk !
    Regards
    Stefan
