MacBook Extremely Slow to Sleep - Help!
My macbook has always taken under 10 seconds to launch into sleep mode (either from apple menu or closed top). In the last 3 weeks however, the time to sleep (ie: screen off, blinking light) is appx 40-50 seconds. I'm not sure what has happened. I know there are 3rd party software options to reduce the time to launch into sleep, but what I'm looking for is a way to debug my machine to restore it to it's past performance level. Past posts have indicated that problems can be found in the console posts, however I am not confident of my ability to diagnose anything from these. Can anyone help? Thanks for your reply. I turned Time Machine to the "off" setting, but nothing seems to have changed. The console post immediately following putting the computer in sleep mode seems to be this one:

Apple TV extremely slow after sleeping
Hi all, My apple tv early 2012 is extremely slow after its slept.. (by slow i mean the wifi connection, both to internet and airplay)... Its so slow you can't hear a song or anything, it keeps cutting in and out.. I don't know why this is and its starting to annoy me..
It has only been happening recently (last two weeks) so far I have tried :
multiple restars = works until the next time it goes into sleep mode or left for a long time
restore = same as above (latest software)
disconnect and reconnect does the same thing.. works until I leave it overnight..
Anyone with any ideas what this could be?
I thought maybe it was my router but none of my other products are doing this : iphone 4 and 5 and two laptops..

Mid 2010 macbook pro slow to sleep. No print queu issues.
Hey everyone! My Mid 2010 macbook pro slow is slow to go to sleep. I have read several community forums and I've checked for old print jobs (which seems to be a common issue) and have found none. I've also reset all printers and jobs. Anyways, it takes 35 to 60 seconds to go sleep (until fan/harddrive turns off/I see blinking white light). This slow sleep occurs even with a complete fresh install of Mavericks, and even after installing a new SSD. I am honestly at a loss.
I did the "pmset -g log" command and I have found two reoccurring things that I think might be the reason (though I don't really understand it fully). I commonly see "TimedOut InternalPreventSleep "com.apple.powermanagement.darkwakelinger" 00:00:15" commonly and "PreventUserIdleSystemSleep "Address Book Source Sync" 00:00:30". I have bolded both of these below:

I am getting a message on the bottom of my computer task bar that says Firefox is using a large amount of the CPU. I noticed that my computer is running extremely slow and in thunderbird it takes a long time to print attachments.
I have another computer and I did not load the upgrade. That computer is working fine. Please helpI too have noticed that once i restored from iCloud. Pictures blurry and videos wont play!

New iMac extremely slow following migration (Help with Etre Check diagnosis)
Hi gurus,
New iMac - scheduled for genius bar on Friday but trying to avoid the trip. Migrated everything over from 2009 macbook pro to 2011 macbook and now 2013 iMac. I imagine there is a lot of cruft from the repeated migrations and am close to just wiping and migrating from scratch. I don't know, however, how to get my old mail and other critical settings over.
Problem is clearly in the user account. I created a separate admin account and that runs relatively fine. Is the below user account salvageable? Should I delete all my old permissions? Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks for the Etrecheck program,

Macbook is slow; will it help to bring it in for repair?
My macbook has been getting progressively slower over the 2 years I've had it. It's becoming unusable. I'm using only about 30% of my memory.
I have called apple customer support and I did both of the things I was asked to do (delete system files and something else, I don't remember.) I was told that this was all they could do, at least over the phone.
Do you think that the Genius Bar people would be able to speed it up?
The nature of my school/work (CS major) is such that being without a laptop is a huge inconvenience. If it isn't going to help to send it in for repair, I'd rather just buy another computer... maybe a PC.
Thanks for any advice/experiences you can share.First, back up all data immediately, as your boot drive might be failing.
There are a few other possible causes of generalized slow performance that you can rule out easily.
Reset the System Management Controller.
If you have many image or video files on the Desktop with preview icons, move them to another folder.
If applicable, uncheck all boxes in the iCloud preference pane.
Disconnect all non-essential wired peripherals and remove aftermarket expansion cards, if any.
Check your keychains in Keychain Access for excessively duplicated items.
Otherwise, take the steps below when you notice the slowdown.
Step 1
Launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the icon grid.
Select the CPU tab of the Activity Monitor window.
Select All Processes from the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for % User, % System, and % Idle at the bottom of the window.
Select the System Memory tab. What values are shown in the bottom part of the window for Page outs and Swap used?
Next, select the Disk Activity tab. Post the approximate values shown for Reads in/sec and Writes out/sec (not Reads in and Writes out.)
Step 2
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way you launched Activity Monitor. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
Select the 50 or so most recent entries in the log. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). You're looking for entries at the end of the log, not at the beginning.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

Macbook Pro Slow/Disk space help please
I have mad skills in other areas, but not computer management. Help appreciated!
My older Macbook Pro is slowing down. Websites are slow to load, switching from one app to another takes way too long. I looked up reasons and low disk space seems likely. I ran EtreSoft and got the into below.
My confusion: I can't figure out what is taking up 150 gig of space. I have tons of pics and videos, but still only 38 gig worth.

Yosemite made my macbook air slow. Please help.

Why is my Macbook Pro slow to sleep in Mountain Lion?
When I choose sleep from the Apple menu it takes approx. 30 seconds before it decides to go to sleep. It gives me no notification that it is going to sleep until 30 seconds later when the screen goes black. Same thing if I close the lid, I can open it up again and begin to work on the machine again with it sleeping 20 seconds later. Sleep has always been almost instantaneous on all of my other macs.

Macbook EXTREMELY slow after lion
Dear reader,
I'm hoping for some good support from Apple, because my recent experience with Apple has been horrid. I purchased the lion update for my macbook pro 2gb 2.26ghz dual core in the Apple store. Right after installing this, my macbook started becoming slower. It's taking quite long to boot up, and running more than 2 programs results in a screen freeze every 10 seconds. It literally takes 10-30 seconds for it to process one mouseclick.
I was hoping that this would be fixed with the update released just now including iCloud etc. Unfortunately it just got worse. As we speak, I have to wait for my typed sentences to appear in this screen which takes about 15 seconds. Might aswell toss this piece of crap in the garbage bin and switch back to PC. Just installed this update, it has been installing for over 2 hours!
Any ideas on how to fix this? It's becoming REALLY annoying and I'm bumping into walls wherever I look/go.
Sort your things Apple, or when Lion doesnt' work on my macbook, instruct your stores to not sell it to owners like me!
Bah.Has Spotlight finished indexing (after a reinstall, it often wants to re-index everything in sight)? If not, cancel the backup and wait until it is.
Are you sure it's using Ethernet? Turn Airport off briefly to be certain.

MacBook 2009 Slow with Mavericks - Help Needed with EtreCheck Report
I just completed my upgrade from Snow Leopard to Mavericks last week. I finished applying all of the software updates after the initial install of Mavericks. The only problem is that my computer is running a lot slower than before. This seems to be common for 2009 MacBooks, so I ran EtreCheck but am not sure what else I can do to improve my performance. 0 B Page-outsIf you are using CrashPlan, I would modify its behavior so it is not running backups while you are actually using your Mac.
You need to have CrashPlan run while you are away from Mac for extended periods of time.
Update all of your Web browser Internet extensions and plugins, also.
Especially, make sure your Telestream Flip4Mac video plugin is updated to its latest version.
There have been user reports of issues with earlier versions of Flip4Mac plugin and Mavericks.
Also, if you have any connected, third party devices, like non-Apple keyboards, mice, drawing tablets, hubs, card readers, etc, you need to go to each device makers' websites to update the drivers for these devices to OS X Mavericks compatible versions, if available and applicable. -
HP PSC 1610, extremely slow. PLEASE HELP!

I have a HP PSC 1610 and it is making me want to pull my hair out. I've had issues for a while but just attributed them to running out of ink...one cartridge at a time.
I just started a new job and set the printer up to the new laptop. I went and bought two new cartridges (refills) and then I realized I forgot my usb cord.
So I attempted to insert a flash drive as well as a scan disk...both of which would not work (Ive never printed that way so I dont know what the deal was.)
But I borrowed someones usb cord and hooked it up.
First, it took ages for the cartridges to align.
Then finally, it got started printing and oh my goodness....it takes 25 minutes to print one page that it took 60 seconds to print just the other day.
---To clarify---after installing the printer onto a new laptop, using a new usb cord, installing new cartridges and sticking a flash drive and scan disk in briefly and getting error message....
my printer now prints insanely slow.
I then hooked it up to my personal computer to see if it were the new computer's fault and it is still printing horribly slow on here.
I have a TON of things that I need to print out for work, which is why I bought new ink.
Any thoughts? Im saying a prayer!!

This sometimes happens with refills. Keep in mind that a cartridge is build for single use. Refilling is in most cases possible, but if the cartridge body is a little old it can run hot pretty fast and the printer will slowdown printing to allow for cooling time. I suggest you return the refills to the place you bought them as a lot of refill stations/brands do offer a kind of warranty on their cartridges.

Internet dropping multiple times an hour, extremely slow! Please HELP!
I am experiencing constant internet drops, and significantly reduced speed when it actually works. I've about had it with comcast, I'm an inch away from filing a complaint with the FCC and canceling my service. I've had this issue for months. Last week a technician came out, then left without resolving the issue. Said everything was fine tested all the cables, replaced some outside and went his way. I had someone come out again today, because not only are we still having constant timeouts, but when the internet is working it's fluctuates from mediocre speed to poor speed, 13.5 mbps to as low as 2 mbps. Keep in mind, I'm paying for 100 mbps. I've gone through 3 routers in the past week and a half, the tech that came out today yielded the same results - no joy on the constant disconnects or sluggish speeds. I've spent all day long speaking to rude, unhelpful customer service representatives on the phone. Now I get to wait another 2 days for yet another technician to come out this thursday. The issue I'm experiencing according to the logs is a T3 Timeout, everytime I am disconnected it reflects as such in the logs. There is no event recorded for the speed drops however. Looking around the forums, people are saying this is an issue with the wiring experiencing noise or something. Not one of the techs who came out said that. All comcast seems to suggest is replacing models, resetting or throwing technicians at the problem who can't even solve it. This customer service is abysmal. We are paying an outrageous amount of money to be having so many drops every hour, and to not receive the speed we are owed. My account is also not showing my new modem, it still displays the old modems mac address as current. I called comcast and they insist it's showing the new on their end, but my accounts page does not reflect that.
