MacBook fan blows really loud for 5-20 sec.

hi guys, I hope you can help me with my little problem. I started my MacBook a few days ago and I notice that my fan blows really hard at non working procceces. he blows 5-20 sec. very loud as if he must work very hard. I will open my Mail and it's sound like my mom turning the hoover on. I have a CPU utilization of 5%.. do you have any idea? it is not syslogd, I checked it.
*I changed the backcover from my mac. it was a Apple exchange reaction.

I'm completely confused. The iMac is hot? It's cool? I don't think we know yet it's a G5.
Anyway, if it's an iMac G5, for the fans try an SMU reset.

Imac shut off and the fan is really loud...

I have an iMac 27" i7, 16 gb ram. The screen randomly shut off and the fan became really loud. Tried turning it off and back on, but still did the same thing. Tried resetting the PRAM, heard the chimes, but then did the same thing. Is it overheated?

Check it. Install an app like iStat Pro to check the temperature, and post it here. There are different temperatures (CPU, hard drive, graphic...). If you want, just take a screenshot of the widget (holding Command, Shift and 4 keys, and selecting the widget) and upload it here, pressing the photo icon at the top of the reply box.

Does anybody have problems with the Macbook Pro Retina 15' fans being really loud even when playing flash games like candy crush or tetris?

So after a few months of using the MBP 15' Retina, I've discovered that the fans are incredibly loud even when playing flash games like candy crush or tetris.. are any of you guys having the same problem? Like all of a sudden from be quiet to unbelievably loud just as the games load. So yeah, hopefully someone has the same problem as I am having.
What I was thinking was that the MBP Retina 15' is such a beefed up laptop, it shouldn't require that much CPU to run flash games that are not even THAT graphically intensive to which making the fans that loud..

Believe it or not, Flash REALLY isn't the issue.
It's hardware makers making devices with less processor performance and requiring software makers to fit into a certain requirements of such. Namely iPhone, iPods and iPads.
Flash is designed to give a lot of features and work across many operating systems, browsers and platforms as a write once solution.
Flash has a certain level of processor performance requirement, which hardware makers like Apple want to build less powerful machines using less expensive processors.
Apple has removed Coverflow 3D effects from iTunes and discontinued the 17" MacBook Pro, leaving only the 15" as having a more powerful 3D capable graphics capability.
So Apple is obviously on a anti-heat/performance quest as they further thin up their hardware, trying to kill Flash by punishing Mac users who want to run it.
Flash runs without a fan sound on my older Mac with dedicated GPU and older OS X verison, no sweat.
Head to your System Preferences > Energy Saver and if you have it, uncheck Automatic Graphics switching, this will use the dedicated GPU and shorted battery life, but if your on power should reduce the heat and fan noise.
Another option is to use SMC fan control and set the fan default speed slightly faster, this will keep the machine slightly cooler and not trigger the higher fan speed as often.
If your running 10.8, you will need to System Preferences > Security > downloads to "Anywhere"

I have a MacBook Pro 13'' from mid 2010, with OS X Maverick installed.
Recently, my mac started to make an annoying noise from the fan...

I've tried to clean the fan, but i don't have the Torx Screwdriver to open it completly...
But I really don't know if this noise comes from the fan because it's dirty or because something else...
I really like to solve this problem, cause sometimes it gets really loud, and i can't even concentrate on my work...
My computer is really nice, 0 problems untill this time...

Your Macbook’s cooling system, including fan and rear vents pull cool air in from the back and (in the case of the Macbook pro) also from the left ports bringing this air around the processor, GPU, and heat sync and blow it out the back, as such your Macbook acts like a little vacuum cleaner of the air around you. If you use your notebook in a dusty area or around a lot of pet fur, this can quickly, even under seemingly ideal clean rooms, accumulate inside your notebook especially on the fan blades reducing its capacity for cooling and in a worse case scenario seize your fan due to caked on dust on the fan blades. Avoid very dusty areas or places where, over the long term you know fuzz, fur, or even smoke can enter into your Macbook.
Is it making a buzzing or scraping noise?
If you only hear it in a quiet room, that is normal.
noisy fan reasons:
A: you notice it more in a quiet room (the typical case) which is normal, all is AOK
B: fuzz and dust has caked onto the blades causing the fan hub to get off balance and make a buzzing sound.
C: fan rotor is going bad and making a whirring or buzz noise (rare).
D: Fan is spinning up due to excess heat from gaming, heavy graphics (typical, all is OK)
A and D are normal
B and C are not.
Do you use it in a dusty area or where there is a lot of pet fuzz? Laptop fans act like little vacuum cleaners and take in dust etc. from the ambient air around them.
If B and C continue for a long time (B is just a cleaning), they eventually cause the fan to either seize and/or die.

Computer is unresponsive and fans are really loud.

Last night I walked into my room to hear my G5's fans blaring loud. I tried to move my mouse and the entire screen was frozen. I didn't know what else to do but to hold the power button in to force shut it down. I let it sit for a few minutes and then powered it back up. It made it all the way to my desktop but would not load my icons and the fans started blaring again. So I forced it shutdown again. After powering it back up 2nd time it won't go pass the grey apple screen. The fans are blaring loud again.
What is causing this and how can I correct it. I am able to get online via my Macbook Pro but I really need to get to the bottom of why desktop is acting crazy!!!

That is why I always advise,
CLONE and run Disk Warrior on clone, then test that out.
And in the past and for PowerPC, Applejack.
If it is with cache files, those are of course temp files, and which SD doesn't copy, some of which now 10.6.x is better at clearing during a SAFE BOOT but for which people use to use AppleJack (and Maybe Leopard Cache Cleaner) and since we are talking PMG5 10.4/10.5 PPC.
To check all the files, TechTool Pro 5.x or Drive Genius 3 (never used DG, never needed to).
Have multiple backups.
All of these system and disk repair and maintenance? mostly so you can mount and backup any files you need to, and then proceed to restore from good backups.
Usually, people are lucky and they can continue to work. Disk Warrior used regularly and for preventative maintenance (rebuild but also scan files and folders).
HFS+ is not reporting errors (they can be just weak sector, more retries on read) and even ECC is not perfect either at stopping memory errors.

The fan gets really loud sometimes

I just bought my Mac a couple weeks ago, not more than a month ago, and I haven't really downloaded a lot onto my computer. But sometimes the fan comes on really loudly, like it's having a hard time cooling the computer. Granted this happens usually when I'm on a site or using a program that is graphic intensive, but it only started doing this sometime this week. Could there be something wrong with the computer?

Your MacBook is behaving as it should. The fan will come on when the CPU is working overtime.
You can run Activity Monitor in the background and see what processes are consuming CPU cycles when the fans come on.
It is Abode Flash more often than not on a website that gets the CPU working hard and the fans going.

Fans running really loudly?

Recently when i was using my macbook pro, the fans seemed to go into overdrive and started making really loud noises, the noises sounded like it was rattling slightly. I didn't have any strenous programs running, just pages and google chrome, but the sound persisted until i put my computer to sleep, then it stopped. Right now it is queiter, but what should i do to avoid this in the future?

If your fans are going crazy when you aren't loading the system, then something is wrong. Try an SMC reset. And to make sure some background process hasn't gone wild, run Activity Monitor (from Applications > Utilitites) and select All Processes - anything suspiciious running over say 10%? (You can sort by CPU% by clicking on the column label.)

MB 13" late 2007 - fan running really loud

Hi guys!
I've tried to find a solution to my problem around the web, but I didn't find anything what could help. My old MacBook from 2007 started to get pretty loud recently. What I realised, fan is turning on while I'm running internet browser (doesn't matter, Safari, Opera or Chrome). But when I watch a movie, even in 720p, the fan is quite. I don't have much apps on my MB, and I try to run CleanMyMac from time to time.
Is my MB just old (that is a pretty obvious answer), or I can do something to fix it?

There could be a few things going on to cause the symptoms, the fan and likely excessive heat.
If the hard disk drive is relatively full and has little or small available free space, the computer may be looking for places to put swap and temporary files the OS uses, to include those when the OS uses free space as Virual Memory. This would mean more read-write cycles to the hard disk drive, if there isn't enough RAM.
Also if the hard disk drive is getting older and worn, it may be slower and the processor among other things are adding up and generating heat so the fan runs more. An early model MacBook may be a candidate for a larger capacity hard disk drive, & if it doesn't already have it, an upgrade in chip RAM capacity to the max it can use.
There may be a reset, such as SMC (system management controller) that may help. In some cases, though the NVRAM/PRAM reset helps. I had to try both on my MacBook when it seemed the processor cores were alternatingly hotter than spec but without a load. In this case, I suspect my MacBook may need the thermal couple to the heatsinks removed and new thermal paste applied, so any heat may be transfered faster. I used a free utility called 'temperature monitor' that includes temperature monitor lite, a download. It works OK once you figure out the settings, and choose to install extra stuff for intel cpus.
So there are things that could be done, depending on the cause of the symptoms. Going through the long way may include unproductive steps when 'trial & error' is involved, so hopefully there is a shorter recipe.

Fan suddenly runs loudly for no reason

OK this is a weird one. I was running my iMac this evening, doing just general stuff (running Google Earth, actually), when suddenly the fan kicked in and started roaring loudly for about a minute, before subsiding back to its usual near-silence.
It actually sounded at first as my drive had started to spin, but I had no disk in the drive. I've had the computer since December and it has never made this sound before.
Any idea what might have caused this? It's concerned me enough that I'm performing an emergency backup of vital documents, just in case. This actually spooked me more than the loss of Windows XP access that resulted from updating to 10.4.9 last night (but that's another thread).

As it returned to "normal" I doubt if anything is wrong but it would be worth having a temperature moniture app to monitor things - either of these are good products.

How to Perform an Archive and Install
An Archive and Install will NOT erase your hard drive, but you must have sufficient free space for a second OS X installation which could be from 3-9 GBs depending upon the version of OS X and selected installation options. The free space requirement is over and above normal free space requirements which should be at least 6-10 GBs. Read all the linked references carefully before proceeding.
1. Be sure to use Disk Utility first to repair the disk before performing the Archive and Install.
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger, Leopard or Snow Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
2. Do not proceed with an Archive and Install if DU reports errors it cannot fix. In that case use Disk Warrior and/or TechTool Pro to repair the hard drive. If neither can repair the drive, then you will have to erase the drive and reinstall from scratch.
3. Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When you reach the screen to select a destination drive click once on the destination drive then click on the Option button. Select the Archive and Install option. You have an option to preserve users and network preferences. Only select this option if you are sure you have no corrupted files in your user accounts. Otherwise leave this option unchecked. Click on the OK button and continue with the OS X Installation.
4. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
5. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.
6. You can now download a Combo Updater directly from Apple's download site to update your new system to the desired version as well as install any security or other updates. You can also do this using Software Update.

My computer has been freezing and then emitting a consistent beeping until I shut off the power. It has been getting really hot and the fan gets really loud. This has been going on for months. What's going on?

I just had my macbook pro checked out and all of it's systems restarted to solve its beeping and freezing problem. However, it is still shutting itself down when I close the lid and becoming very hot. When I open the lid again the screen is black and I have to continually hold down the power button in order to turn it back on. Does anyone know why this is happening?

MacBook fan running very loudly

I have been having issues with my MacBook overheating and causing the fan to run very loudly (so loudly I can't listen to music or watch videos on it very well). I have had the motherboard replaced twice this year alone by Apple and I still have coverage till November of this year. They told me if I keep it on a flat surface (like a desk), the problem shouldn't keep happening. More times than none, I only have one application running like Safari or Firefox with only one page open and still the computer is incredibly loud. Any suggestions? I really do not want to take it out to a retail store again unless I can get a new MacBook out of it since it'll be the third time the motherboard has been replaced.
