Macbook getting terebly slow

hello
i have a macbook 2.2 GhZ, 4GB ram, 144MB video, the 'late 2007' model. everything was fine until some time ago it started doing weird things. i removed a bootcamp-created partition, and from that moment every time it start up i get a black screen saying 'no bootable disk found' or someting like that. but when i press alt on start up, it does show my mac partition, and when i select that, everything goes well, until a week ago. suddenly my macbook started to get extremly slow. safari, itunes, everything is slow. and copying a 700MB file first took a few min most, now it take 50 min:S, so theres something wrong, but i realy dont know what. as far as i know i cant have a virus?
thanks

i forgot to say, that i downloaded a lot lately, so i had only 5 GB free space, while i first had a lot more. so i deleted a lot of files, like 35 GB orso, cause i now have 40 GB, but i believe it stared around that time, not sure if that could be connected?

  • Macbook getting very slow - processing, typing, using internet

    Hi there apple community,
Can someone advice me on how to 'defrag' my Macbook. I'm not sure why but Entourage popped up a message saying I've run out of space in my HD and I have to delete files for it to run. I looked at my Mac HD and there is 26GB available!! Surely that is heaps of GB. A friend of mine who uses a PC suggested cleaning out my temporary files, cookies, and defrag. I have no idea how to do this on my MacBook.
Can anyone suggest why this would happen... I thought 26GB is enough. Is it the memory perhaps.. how do I address this?
I have the 13inch Macbook about a year and half old.
Have music files and movies etc on it.. but not that much to slow it down. I've deleted all unnecessary files, music and movies already.
    Thanks in advance.

Hey.. I really don't think I GOT an INSTALL DISC with my Macbook. Bought it in Feb 2008 or early 2008... I've looked everywhere and I don't have an install disc. I'm very fastidious with keeping receipts/documents etc.. and I would have kept the disc with all my computer equipment. Is it possible the Mac came without it. I might have to ask my brother for his cos he just got a new Macbook. Can I use his?
I did the repair permissions, laptop doesn't seem any faster or running better. In fact it did this weird thing I've noticed a few times now.. I usually leave the Mac on most of the day or put in sleep mode.. sometimes when it's left on.. the screen flashes on and off... but when I press a key.. it stops.. and doesn't happen again usually. I will restart when that happens. Doesn't happen often but I've noticed a bit more frequent last 6 mths.
I still haven't cleaned up the HD cos no Install disc.
I will google that program you suggested and try that.
    cheers.

  • My macbook works well while connected to the charger, but using the battery it gets really slow

My macbook pro 2011 yosemite 10.10.1, (2,3 GHz Intel Core i5 / 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 / Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB) recently started to present a problem that when using only the battery, it gets really slow, but connected to the charger, it operates normally. I have already taken to a technical assistance but was not presented any problem in the battery. And when I open activity monitor it shows that the kernel_task process uses almost 100% CPU and so is almost 0% idle, so it is almost impossible to use the computer (using the battery). Is there anything I can do to prevent this process using 100% CPU?

My recommendation for a SMC reset was initiated by your posts indication poor performance when under battery power.  Often a SMC reset will correct bad battery behavior but apparently not in your case.
Look at this article and see if there are any possible hints for correction of the problem:

If not, the the best option will be an Apple store genius bar appointment.

  • My MacBook Pro gets very slow while doing  work like watching movies and using net .. video gets lag very often

My MacBook Pro gets very slow while doing  work like watching movies and using net .. video gets lag very often and while surffing on net it gets very slow ...

First, back up all data immediately, as your boot drive might be failing.
There are a few other possible causes of generalized slow performance that you can rule out easily.
    Reset the System Management Controller.
If you have many image or video files on the Desktop with preview icons, move them to another folder.
If applicable, uncheck all boxes in the iCloud preference pane.
Disconnect all non-essential wired peripherals and remove aftermarket expansion cards, if any.
Check your keychains in Keychain Access for excessively duplicated items.
Boot into Recovery mode, launch Disk Utility, and run Repair Disk.
Otherwise, take the steps below when you notice the problem.
    Step 1
Launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the icon grid.
Select the CPU tab of the Activity Monitor window.
Select All Processes from the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for % User, % System, and % Idle at the bottom of the window.
Select the System Memory tab. What values are shown in the bottom part of the window for Page outs and Swap used?
Next, select the Disk Activity tab. Post the approximate values shown for Reads in/sec and Writes out/sec (not Reads in and Writes out.)
    Step 2
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way you launched Activity Monitor. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Select the 50 or so most recent entries in the log. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). You're looking for entries at the end of the log, not at the beginning.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting. That should be easy to do if your extract is not too long.

  • HT3964 My MacBook Air running on Snow Leopard gets extremely slow (almost like a hang, except if you wait about half an hr, it actually moves) after login interface. sometimes it never gets past the background. Cannot log back in.

My MacBook Air running on Snow Leopard gets extremely slow (almost like a hang, except if you wait about half an hr, it actually moves) after login interface. Sometimes it never gets past the background of the homepage, desktop doesn't seem to load. After multiple forced shut downs and left to run for hours, sometimes the desktop loads but the dock does not respond when applications are opened. The computer is then unable to shut down normally. Forced shut downs are necessary most times. Time machine backup takes extremely long, and attempts to use the time machine to bring the laptop back to the time befiore the problem arose was met with extremely slow and hung time machine function.
    Please help!

There isn't much besides a failing hard drive or other hardware fault that can cause those symptoms. Run the Apple Hardware Test, or just take it to an Apple Store for testing.

  • Why my brand-new macbook air getting so slow on internet connection?

My mba getting so slow all the sudden, it take me at least 20 sec to get on Google page. anybody can tell me what is wrong?

Have to say comparing this thread to many others that it isn't just the internet and wireless connection.  I'm just about ready to throw my new Macbook in the garbage as this has been an ongoing issue since I bought it.  And it's not the connectioon as anyone else coming in to our home is able to connect easily, Google TV runs just fine, the only device with issues is the MacBook.  The hours I waste waiting for pages to load or trying to reconnect are numerous.  Very dissappointed.
While this thread had a happy outcome, most of the others are like my situation where the problem doesn't get resolved.  If the standard PCs and windows can work fine why doesn't a Mac.  I feel duped and dumped twice as much money into a device that doesn't work as good as the less expensives laptops with Windows.
    Frustrated

  • My MacBook Pro getting so slow and the temperature  is really high, Please Help :)

I have problems with my MacBook Pro it warming up to much, the temperature reaching up to 98 degrees, I have to work with a fan for my mac, I searched for information on the subject but concludes as discussed in various subjects is manufacturing problem, well that's the first problem, the second and that worries me, from 1 month ago my Mac started getting so slow I cant work on it, then I format it and install the Lion (before was  Snow Leopard that came from the factory when I bought it in April last year) and still with the same problem, looking for solutions I realized that when I work with my mac connected to a power source with the magsafe works perfectly. I perform the hardware test and I get the following error: 4SNS/1/40000001: VPOR-0.592 and can't solve it, I search but no result about this error, also I reset the PRAM and SMC but still the same, my mac just work properly when is plugged to a power source.
    Please help!!!!
    Thanks in advance

+my battery is dead and Im using cable all the time
When I turn ON my Macbook everything is OK, but after ~1h of doing whatever (surfin on net, listetning iTunes or watching movies) it's suddenly getting super slow. After that even scrolling down the websites is lagging and watching movies from HDD is impossible (glitchy and low fps). Macbook is not getting hot at all. Normal restarting doesn't work - it's slow as it was before (I need to wait long time to turn in ON again). Yesterday I decided to restart the SMC (Control+Option+Shift+Power Button) and after restarting Macbook it was OK again for another 1h.
    I've already tried:
    - cleaning with Clean my Mac 2
    - scan with ClamXav
    - restarting SMC

I'm updating OS X right now (downloading).
