MacBook gives 2 high-pitched beeps at 7am

Don't have any scheduled events at this time, but the MacBook gives these two high-pitched beeps at around 7am on most (not all) days. Even does it when asleep. The beeps do not appear to be coming from the speakers and they're unlike any system sound, so is there something on the motherboard or in the drives that could do this? Is it a warning of impending failure?

Suspected that but how to diagnose what the problem is? System Profiler reports that the RAM (2 x 1GB Kingston) is OK and Disk Utility 'Verify Disk' returns 'appears to be OK'.

  • High pitched beeping noise

I have recently purchased a 60 gig iPod and whenever I try to listen to music or watch a video that I did not purchase from iTunes a very loud, very high pitched beeping noise accompanies it and pretty much drowns out the rest of my music. The beeping is incesant and does not stop throughout the whole track. This did not happen with the iPod nano that I used to own and it only happens on music that I did not purchase on iTunes or did not transfer via cd. I have had most of this music on my computer for a very long time. Is there a way to fix this without burning over 500 songs to cd. If so please tell me, it would be greatly appreciated.

you are the second person to tell me that it's a hard drive problem. i'm starting to think that that is the problem. it really hasn't done that with other programs, but it does very rarely. i have the upgraded hard drive for the macbook pro. if i were to have it replaced, would it cost a lot? i'm still in the one-year warranty by about 20 days. do i just take it to an apple store and they will fix it?

  • Occasional single high-pitched beep

Every so often I hear a single, short, high-pitched beep emitted from my MacBook Pro. It doesn't sound like it's coming from the speakers--at least it isn't a system beep, but perhaps a hardware beep?
Any reason to be concerned about this?

No flashing light. I don't think it has to do with the RAM. And the beep occurs well after the startup anyways.
Funny though, it has been quiet for the past few hours. I'll keep posting updated if it starts to make noises again. Then hopefully I will be able to see if anything in particular brings back the beeps.

  • High-pitched beep/sound during sleep and shut down modes

I just wish to check whether is it normal that there's high pitched beep (not very loud but can be heard in a quiet room) which seems to be from the LED or AC Adapter during sleep mode. The beep sounds continuous when the computer has been shut down or in off mode while the main plug of where the ac adapter is connected to is still on. Is this normal? My computer works fine. Battery is charging fine. I just want check whether is this normal. It is has been like that ever since I bought my computer on March 2012.
HP Pavilion dm4-3005tx Entertainment Notebook PC

    Hello Huanwei,
It appears that you can hear a "high pitched beep" coming from the notebook while it's in sleep mode or even off, when the power adapter is plugged in and "on". I will try to help you with this.
Normally, this should not happen. Beeping from a computer may happen during start up a few times to indicate components enabling, but any constant beeping or being while the computer is off shouldn't happen.
Does this occur, if the AC adapter is not connected to the notebook when it is in sleep mode or off? Do you only notices this, in a specific location? (office, etc.)
I would suggest, depending on the setup of things. Taking the notebook with no AC to another location in the house. A quiet one, make sure your not near any other electronics (no watches or cell phones either) let the notebook sleep and see if you hear the beeping. If not, then power it off and test again. If no beeping, this is good and the notebook is fine.
Repeat that same test with the power adapter connected ( again no other electronics around you). Listen while it is "sleeping" and off to see if you can hear the beeping again.
If you do disconnect the AC from the notebook , but leave that connected to the wall and take the notebook out of that location, go back to see if you can hear beeps again. If you do it could be the AC adapter. If you don't then it could be an issue with that only when it's connected.
If there was no beeping when the AC was connected in this "testing location", then I would guess it is something else within the house that is beeping (we have seen that before). In which case you'd have nothing to worry about in regard to your notebook.
Let me know where the above leads.
Thank you for posting on the HP Forums.

  • Do your MacBook make a high pitch beeping sound?

Just got a late 2011 MacBook pro with SSD hard drive (17 inch i7).
I have noticed an almost inaudiable high pitch 'morse code' like beeping coming from the machine. Maybe the SSD being accessed?
I do have tinnitus and have been known to become irritated from low Hz monitors and TVs in the days when they operated at 50-60 Hz. So maybe something in the machine is operating at that fequency.
It may be nearly audible, but it's driving me mad when the music is off and I'm trying to concentrate!
    Does anyone else experience this?

Does the beep sound similar to this video? Skip to the 00:44 mark to hear the sound. If the sound is this one that means that your Mac is trying to update its EFI.
Would you mind recording a soundbyte? That could be really helpful. It's not possible that the sound is coming from the SSD, perhaps is your fans.
    Hope that helps.
P.S. If you are too bothered you can also make an appointment at your local Apple Store Genius Bar.

  • Mic Connected through USB adapter gives High pitch voice in playback

My mic is connected through a usb adapter but when i play my track back in Garage ban after recording I get this high pitch fast chipmunk voice.
And My mic works fine with quicktime audio recording or other audio recording software.

most likely the sample rate of your audio interface is too low, it must be set to 44100 in Audio MIDI Setup utility.
similar to the issue of an imported file playing too fast/high pitched:

  • Macbook Alu high pitch in windows

hello any have a solution for this problem when i have the brighteness at 50% the mac do a high pitch. does any have this problem? and a solution?
    thanks

I believe there is a driver issue when running windows and getting the high pitched noise from the display (it goes away when you turn the brightness up/down, right?)
There have been quite a few discussions on this already...try searching the apple discussion board for more information

  • Occasional high pitched beep every 40 or so minutes

For the past few weeks my MacBook Pro has been making beeping sounds what feels like every 40 or so minutes (I don't keep count) it is quite annoying, and I even hear it when it is on the floor in sleep.
Does anybody know what it means/how to stop it?? It can get annoying.
    Thanks

Thank you so much. Yes, my friend's phone that he left for 3 whole days was apparently running out of battery and thus made the beeping sounds. I hate him right now cause I wasted so much time researching the problem... I was about to go to the Apple Store too. Anyways, thank you for the help.

  • Random high pitch beep during voice calls.

Why is my iPhone 5s making random, annoying squeals  during some of my calls?

Have you contacted your carrier for their advice?

  • E540 won't turn on, emits single high-pitched beep

I'm not sure what this issue is.

yesterday I was using it as normal when it switched off completely without any warning.
I'm used to this happening as my laptop regularly overheats and switches off like this.
There was also a weird slight smell of burning plastic.
To be honest, all the details don’t sound very good…
Everything looks like some serious hardware problem causes that the notebook cannot be powered up.
I cannot say for sure what’s wrong here but probably the motherboard or CPU has died.
Anyway, your data on the HDD should not be affected and I guess you could get access to your whole iTunes library. You need to remove the HDD from the notebook’s HDD bay and you will need to use an external USB 2.5” HDD caddy to connect the this notebook’s HDD to another computer as an external USB HDD.
This will allow you to move and to backup the data to another good working HDD.

  • Very High Pitched and Super Quiet beep/sound from DV6

They seem to make a new DV6 every year but This one is mine.
I've had this notebook since September and its awesome. But there is a very annoying issue I have always had with it. When I'm using it in a very quiet environment I can hear it emit a high pitched beep type sound every second. Its extremely quiet but its one of those sounds your brain suddenly notices and you can't stop hearing it - like when some old CRT monitors and tube TV's are left on. I usually only hear it when the PC is idle or doing very basic tasks like I'm doing now typing this. I thought for sure it was something else in my home for the first month until I was using the notebook someplace else and heard the same annoying sound. When I put my ear up to the notebook I can hear it better and that its somehow tied with the fan. I can hear the fan barely slow down by probably 5%, then that beep and the fan speeds up again. This happens continuously until I'm not idle. Anyone else notice this? My motherboard was replaced a month ago (It randomly died) but nothing changed.

Seems to be normal "CPU whine". Nothing can really be done about it. I've just been lucky with my notebooks in the past not having a whine. I set my networked storage a little closer to where I sit and it cancels out the CPU whine.

  • Qt high pitched squeeling sound

    Hi
I have a MOTU 828mkII on a G4 Powerbook with OSX 10.4.8 and i'm getting this very high pitched beep/squeel and clipping sound whenever i try to play any audio in Logic Pro 7.1 or Reason 3.0 and also when watching videos in iTunes. However, playing music in iTunes is fine. I get the same problem when watching quicktime videos online (e.g. movie trailers from apple.com).
I reinstalled the latest MOTU drivers and it didnt fix it. I tried reinstalling QuickTime before and it fixed it but when the problem came back and i tried it again it didnt work.
I suspect its a Quicktime codec issue but can't be too sure.
Anyone experienced anything like this? any suggestions?
    Thanks.

You say it's not mechanical, but it does sound like it could be a fan or drive bearing. Especially if you are in a warm environment.
Do you have external speakers connected or are you using your internal speaker?

  • High Pitch ring/ B

Hi guys, i've been reading alot of issues with the x-fi and nf4. So i figured i see if anyone if familiar with this before i try creatives imfamous tech support. Anyways i am quite computer literate and understand whats going on. Now for my issue, at random times during games, specifically Company of Heroes, Underground 2, Star Wars Empire at War the sound will screetch a high ping ring and stay that way. So loud that i have to turn my speakers off. It only goes away when i restart the comp. Now i have SLI, I turned it off in COH and it seemed to go away for now, but that defeats the prupose of having sli lol. But the other games seem to have some issue or another relating to this. I didnt think this qualifies and the crackling problem i've heard alot about this seems different. FYI onbaord sound works fine. Now i have no other pci card, just the sound blaster but it does share an irq with one of my video cards, asus said thats how the pci bus works on the newier boards (kinda baffled me). Newiest bios, newiest drivers blah blah no rookie stuff. All other onboard devices are off PCI Lat at 64. Now for my specs
    Asus p5n32-sli se (nf4)
    Intel core 2 duo e6600
2xg corsair xms pc6400 5-5-5-2 The stock timings are 4-4-4-0 i set them high just incase
    2x evga 7900gt co's
    550watt Antec Trupower

Yeah i also have a p5n32-sli SE with a E6600 and the same memory and PSU but with two 7800gt in sli, and in most games like for example Gothic 3 and Dark messiah of might and magic i also get that problem. Altho in some games it seems more random, like in gothic 3 i can sometimes play for very long times without it happening but in say dark messiah i get it constantly after a pretty short while. And also since that high pitch beep can be muted in windows i would guess its some kind of software problem.
I found these threads with other people having the same problem
    http://forums.creative.com/creativelabs/board/message?board.id=soundblaster&message.id=80650
    http://forums.creative.com/creativelabs/board/message?board.id=soundblaster&message.id=80485

    http://forums.creative.com/creativelabs/board/message?board.id=soundblaster&message.id=76653
but no solution, altho some claim disabling SLI will work but as you said that relly isnt an option, id rather use my onboard sound in that case.
I sent a mail to creatives support like a week ago but have yet to get a reply.
The only thing i forgot to try was using the old drivers that came with the card instead of the latest, but i had to pull out the card to find the serial and model numbers when contacting support and i havent bothered putting the card back in so i cant try, but then again i think someone in one of those threads already tried with older drivers and it didnt fix it.
Well , I remeber the days when soundblaster cards were THE cards for gaming but sadly creative seems to have dropped the ball with this series, and sadly seeing all the problems creative are having with these cards and the lack of support even indicating they are working on fixing the isssues , well lets just say i probably wont waste my money on a creative product ever again, after all thats all i can do as a consumer.

  • Since Yosemite upgrade, high pitch noise creating case vibration on MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2009) (on watching the keynote online)

    Hi,
Great work on Yosemite, great new design as well.
Several problems since the Yosemite upgrade though :
        - When playing high pitch noise (watching the keynote for example), the speakers make the case around it vibrate. This was not happening under Mavericks and previous OSXs.
        - This page (post editing) does not allow the right click (works everywhere else as far as I'm aware).
        - when changing the volume, I have now the noise feedback when clicking on shift+volume up/down and no sound when clicking on volume up/down on my keyboard (was the inverse before).
        - The keyboard light was stuck in off, had to restart the computer.
More general problems (covering the last OSX since introduction of 10.9) :
        - lack of possibility of choosing for a 3x3 set of desktops as it was before (the new mission control only allow us to have a horizontal set of several desktops)
        - Notifications cannot be turned off automatically when being in full screen. (only options for auto turn off given are "display is sleeping" oO and when "mirroring on another display" -> meh, would have prefer when having an app in full screen)
    System :
    MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2009)
    Model Identifier: MacBookPro5,3
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
    Processor Speed: 2.66 GHz
    Memory: 8 GB
    Bus Speed: 1.07 GHz
    Boot ROM Version: MBP53.00AC.B03
    SMC Version (system): 1.48f2

Thanks for your lengthy reminder dude, I have a similar Mac with yours. I suspect its a software fault because it happens after I upgraded to Lion, 10.7.2.
