MacBook glass on a MBP?

I bought a refurbished 13" MBP from Apple about three weeks ago. I just noticed that on the screen glass, instead of "MacBook Pro", it reads only "MacBook". I definitely have a MBP, because I have the SD Slot, FW800, etc.
Is this something I should take to my closest Apple Store for inspection?

Yes - in terms of usability it probably isn't a big deal but for resale value and even perhaps warranty repair issues this should be settled quickly.

  • If I charge my iPod Touch with an unplugged MacBook Pro, does the MBP discharge more quickly?

    It's just a doubt.

It simply would not be smart to charge your iPod from your MacBook Pro when the MBP is unplugged from the main power source. It will quickly discharge your battery - yes, VISIBLY (whatever that may mean) - possibly putting your MBP into deep hibernation mode since the battery will be quickly drained.

  • Macbook HDD into 13" MBP?

I've just got my new 13" Macbook Pro, which replaced my 2.2ghz black Macbook.
The first thing I did was pull the 320g hdd out of the MB and install it in the MBP.
Everything is working fine, the battery indicator still seems to think the 100% time is about 3 hours, but I'm thinking it just needs to "learn" the new timings, but otherwise everything is fine. System profiler seems to be correct too, so it appears all good.
I just wanted to ask if its OK to do this? Is my new MBP going to suddenly explode in the very future, or commit suicide, or some other such horrible thing, or is (as I suspect) the OS smart enough to work out what is going on and adjust itself accordingly?
    Ta.

As long as the OS X version and build is the same or later than the one bundled with the computer you should be OK. i would calibrate the battery, but you may instead simply remove the relevant preference files from the /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/ folder. Basically everything EXCEPT the com.apple.Boot.plist can be removed. Then restart the computer and reconfigure your Network and Energy Saver preferences.

  • Macbook power supply for MBP?

Is it possible to use MacBook nice and compact power supply for MBP?
    Thanks

Actually they are the same size. I have a 85W adapater and it pops right into the power connector on my MacBook. I did not have the MBP adapater plugged into the wall socket though. The pin spacing and arrangement appear the same also.
The MP adapater lists the output as 16.5 VDC, the MBP lists two output voltages; 18.5 and 16.5 VDC.
I am NOT going to try and charge or power my MacBook from the MBP adapter, but I think it would be short sighted on Apple's part to use the same connector on both adapaters if using the wrong one could damage either the MB or MBP.

  • Migration Assistant on MacBook 2008 not seeing MBP 2012

I want to transfer data from my old macbook from 2008 to my newer MacBook Pro from 2012.  The MBP sees the old MB, but the old MB is not seeing the MBP- just keeps "searching for other computers" forever.  I got a 9 to 6 pin firewire connector to link them, as instructed at the Apple Store.   Tried it without the cable just using wireless and same result.  Suggestions?

  • My iPad doesn't seem to charge when plugged in to my MacBook Pro if the MBP goes to sleep. My iPhone continues to charge even if the MBP is closed. Is that normal?

My iPad (3rd Gen) seems to stop charging if it is plugged into my MBP if either the iPad is closed or if the MBP goes to sleep. My iPhone charges whether the MBP is awake or asleep or even if the MBP is closed. There is a screen display that shows the iPhone is charging. The iPad only has the tiny icon at the top of the screen that show it is charging. However, the battery's % charged does not increase if the lid is closed when I am charging the iPad if the lid is closed on the iPad or if the iPad off after pressing the on off button. Is this normal?

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • Which Macbook: rMBP, MBA or MBP?

Hi. I'm going to buy a Mac for studies, and really can't decide which model to chose. I'm considering the Macbook Air 13", Macbook Pro Retina 13" and the Macbook Pro 13". The computer will mainly be used for writing, surfing the web, photo apps (iPhoto, PS and such. Not for heavy film editing), occassional programming and gaming (not the most graphics-heavy games like crysis, skyrim and such).
If I decide to go for the Macbook Pro, I will trade the HDD for a 240GB SSD and also add additional RAM (depending on the model, but 8GB is minimal).
In advance, thanks for all the help I get

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
It's up to you, but I would go for the 13-inch MacBook Air or MacBook Pro. The advantage of the MacBook Pro is that you can replace the hard drive and memory without voiding warranty, and on the other two MacBooks, it's impossible. Also, repairs are cheaper because it has got less soldered parts.
The GPU is the same in all of them, so you should expect a similar performance. The Haswell processor of the MacBook Air doesn't provide an enormous change in performance but battery life. If you get the 13-inch MacBook Pro, buy it with 4 GB of RAM: you can install 8 GB or more of RAM for less money and without voiding the warranty. The same for SSD

  • HT204350 How many hours (maximum) does it take to migrate 400  GB from one MacBook Pro to another MBP using Ethernet connection?

How long do I need for migrating data from old MBP to a new MBP?

The fastest way would be to connect the two computers over Firewire, start the new MBP in Target Mode, and either clone the whole hard drive from the old MBP or only copy across the things you need. Doing it that way would take about 1-2 hours depending on how much stuff you're copying.
Ethernet would be a lot slower.

  • Macbook Pro Retina or MBP?

    Hi Guys.
I am interested to know your opinions on the following, as im stuck at a crossroards and just cant quite decide what to go for.
I am a designer and looking at buying a Brand new, New Apple MacBook Pro with Retina Display, Intel Quad Core i7, 2.4GHz, 256GB, 8GB RAM, with 15.4 Inch Display or  the Apple MacBook Pro, Intel Quad Core i7, 2.6GHz, 750GB, 8GB RAM with 15.4 Inch Display.
Now i do have a 2009 standard Macbook but would like to upgrade, i sometimes play games like Call of Duty 2/4 and Counterstrike Global Offensive but its pretty hard as the laptop is barely playable online with these games.
I was wondering if either of these 2 laptops im looking at purchasing would play any of these games comfortable with stable and high FPS as i do love the occasional multiplayer game.
Is retina really worth the extra money? will it improve visual graphically ingame?
I know both these laptops will be fantastic for my designing needs, but do they play well gaming online? which would perform better?
Any reply or input would be much appreiated.
    Many thanks.

I would opt for the non-Retina, antiglare. It's upgradable (RAM, boot drive) you can replace the optical drive with a another drive, you can clean the fans of dust bunnies etc. The anti-glare screen lets you work with no eyestrain/glare.
The Retina offers little, takes away a lot and brings new problems to the table, 90% of the people I've tested with say they can't tell the difference between it and the regular display.

3D games get improved on and require better video cards, which you can't change in a laptop.
If you want to 3D game, get a Windows 7 3D gaming tower, that way your compatible with everyone else,  you can clean the dust out and upgrade the parts, get better keyboards, larger monitors etc. Also Windows verisons remain like they are for at least a decade, unlike OS X which changes every year and breaks games. Because once they get your money, they don't tend to come back to spend more money on such a small market share of Mac users.
Here are some pre-built 3D gaming machines

  • MacBook Graphics compared to MBP

My first generation Mac Book Pro was my first Mac ever. I loved it and I'm now working on replacing all my Windows/PCs with Macs. After the Core2 upgrade I decided to sell my MBP and upgrade also but now I'm at a new crossroads. Since I'm considering replacing my desktop also in the future I was beginning to think that the MBP might not be necessary anymore since it is more of a desktop replacement. The the integrated graphics no video card (correct me if I'm wrong) of the Mac Book has me a little scared. When I think of the time I had with the Mac Book Pro I dont think the video card would have been pushed any since I play console video games and PC-platform games on my desktop windows machine. But I wonder how much of a difference it will make especially when windows emulation takes an upswing and I may want to use my mac as a PC gaming machine. Or will a Mac Book be able to run Vista well. Buying a Mac Book over the Mac Book Pro will save money for any goodies that pop up during MacWorld.
How does the resolution of a Mac Book work when coupled with 23 inch cinema display and will it look good? I'm pretty sure it is not compatible with a 30 inch. But can I use multiple desktops and such?
I wonder will it be able to handle CS3/Aperture and image editing programs at the very least. Which I think it should be able to. I wonder how it can hold up against other Pro Apps. The model I will buy for Mac Book will be 2 GB RAM and 160 GB HD.
I hadnt really used my Mac Book Pro for much outside of web/blogging/budgeting but I want the flexibility to expand. The only reason I havent used the MPB of the PC for editing is because i havent gotten used to it yet. But the Mac Book's lower price point is so appealing. I dont know what to do
Mac Book   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

How does the MB handle Parallels and Boot Camp/windows? My main reason for getting the addtional space (my current machine thats being shipped to some lucky guy on ebay had 100 GB) and opting for 160 GB no matter if I get MBP or MB is to have space for windows to help ween me over to the dark side. Also the 2 GB RAM will have keep things silky smooth for side by side Parallels. Also want to dinkle in a little sound editting. Alllsoo will move my iPod library/sync to my availble mac since thats where the party's at. But I wonder can it at least handle weak itty bitty crappy 3D graphics in Boot Camp. I really dont need it to be as powerful as my MPB graphics card but I wonder will it play this MMO that I play. I would assume Direct X would handle the grunt work. The game has a 8 MB Video Card and 128 MB RAM recommended. It aint all that.

  • Cracked my macbook glass , lcd works fine , wont be able to change it till 2 months after which i get home, is it ok to use it with a cracked screen?

    Help!

The usual repair for your situation is a replacement of the entire display thus if you are careful, continued use will be acceptable.  You essentially cannot do any additional harm
    Ciao.

  • MacBook to MBP

So I am going to upgarde my MacBook to a 15" MBP. What is the best way to transfer all of my files and apps? I currently use Super Duper! to back up everything - can I copy my cloned drive from my external directly onto the new MBP? Or should I just use the Migration Assistant (haven't used that before).

    Pulio,
I just did this very thing (the MBP arrived this morning and it is a thing of beauty).
Start the MBP, as part of the setup process select to transfer from another Mac. Connect the MB to the MBP via a 6-pin to 6-pin firewire cable. Press the T key on the MB, start it up and keep the T key pressed. The MBP will examine the MB and offer to move files, applications etc. etc. Basically, you can choose in broad terms what you want to move.
I have about 50Gb of music, docs and movies and the whole process took around 75 minutes.
When the MBP completes the copy process it reboots and it 'feels' exactly like the MB. The only application that didn't transfer is Missing Sync. This needs to be reinstalled.
Once the MBP is up and running run the software updater and you're good to go.
The whole process was very smooth and easy.

  • Logic Pro slower on 2011 MBP than 2008 MacBook? Especially with NI Kontakt

Hi I just got a new MacBook Pro, late 2011 model, and I was really stoked but I've come to find Logic Pro runs slower in general than on my old MacBook (not pro, mid-2008 model).  I know the MBP is a faster computer but I can't figure out why Logic is so slow and I was wondering if you guys could help me out with some optimization or answers.  The main issue lies in Kontakt, which I was able to run far more instances of on my old macbook than my new MBP.  I frequently get system overload despite having more cores on the CPU and the same memory.
    Below are the differences:
    2011 MBP (stock)
    Logic Pro 9.1.6 64-bit
    NI Kontakt 5 (4-8 instances)
NI Pro-53 (2-3 instances) through 32-bit AU bridge
NI Massive through 32-bit AU bridge
2008 MB (stock, except 4GB memory upgrade)
    Logic Pro 9.1.0 (32-bit)
NI Kontakt 4 (8+ instances no problem)
    NI Massive (2-6) instances

I'd also add that when running large native instrument sample libraries, they advise (in the start up guide) to install large sample libraries on a dedicated hard drive. If you have a FireWire 400/800 drive, it might be worth it to install kontakts huge library on there and see if that frees up some CPU. Trying to run logic / the plugin applications, the sample libraries and your recorded audio/logic files on one drive will severely hurt your CPU performance.
I know is doesn't really answer why you'd be faster/more stable on your old Mac, but might help you get the most out of your new machine.
    Cheers!

  • Macbook or Refurb MBP?

I currently have a 17" HP windows machine, but its quite enormous and it runs windows, so i want a mac as my secondary. i need to keep my windows pc for programming so i'm looking for a cheap mac laptop. I'm torn between a new macbook or a refurb MBP. the price difference isnt too much so i cnat decide what i want. could anyone offer me a suggestion?

It depends on what you want it for. If you want to do graphics and other related things I would go for the Macbook Pro with the 256mb video card. If you do alot of office work or writing then I would go for the Macbook.
But make sure that you get at least 160-200gb HD so you can run windows on it as well.
Then you will have two computers for the price of one.
Just remember that you need a windows OS with SP2 on it to install on the mac's.
All the MBP and MB come with the new intel core 2 duo chip now.
