MacBook goes dark on/off, sleep light starts to fade in and out...

I have started experiencing this issue where the macbook will go to sleep in the middle of me doing something. I am not tilted, the istat shows the temps and fan ok. Usually clicking on the keyboard (space bar) awakens it. Same behavior continues once battery has been removed and macbook is running off the power adapter. Below are the spec and a screen shot of the stats with the battery removed, running on AC. I have searched google and threads but could quite find the same scenario as this. Any help is sincerely appreciated. David

  • Songs starting to fade in and out and stop playing

just downloaded an album for the first time from the itunes online and now all the songs I try to play will fade and then stop playing

just set a couple of keyframes, not hard at all.

  • When I save and/ or export a video, the light majorly fades in and out.

I have noticed that the lighting in my videos fade in and out which ruins the quality of the video. There is nothing wrong with the original file and when I view the files before hand, the fading is not there. The fading is almost like the lighting in my videos (typically natural lighting, but sometimes studio) are strobe lights.
It typically happens when I save my project and go back to it or when I export it.
Is there anyway to stop this from happening?
This was happening before Yosemite by the way.
Thanks for any help you guys can offer.

Greyed imaged in the Import dialog box mean you have already imported the photos into Lightroom, so there is no need and no benefit to importing them a second time.
Just go to the Library module, search for the desired photos, and resume working on these photos.

  • Connecting battery = MacBook goes dark and to sleep

I have a black Macbook 2.4 GHz. It was purchased refurb from the Apple store site and has recently exhibitted some strange behavior surrounding the battery. Sometimes the screen just goes dark and the MacBook goes to sleep. Usually a restart corrects the issue.
Tonight, it's doing it all the time. I came home and opened the MacBook (it had been sleeping) and within a minute the screen went dark as if the brightness was turned all the way off and then it went to sleep. I finally got it shut down and the long and short of it is that it works fine with just the power adapter plugged in, but as soon as I connect a battery the screen goes dark and the MacBook sleeps. My initial thought was bad battery but I tried another known working battery from the same model MacBook and the same thing happened. As soon as the contacts touch, dark screen and sleep.
I've reset the SMC twice, zapped the PRAM and even repaired the disk permissions just for fun.
Luckily, I'm under AppleCare but can't really get to an Apple Store (or even find the time to spend on the phone) until Monday so I thought I'd post here to get some guesses. My thought is logic board, because, well, what else could it be!
Thanks in advance for any help or even wild speculation!

  • Macbook screen goes dark (not to sleep)

So then I have to fiddle with the down (F1) and up (F2) buttons til it comes back on, then it immediately goes dark again, this happens several times a day now.
I need a new LCD screen right? I got an estimate from my local Mac repair guy, he said $150 for the screen and 50 for labor--does this sound right?
Have MacBook 13" 10.7.4. Got it 4 years ago.
    Thanks!

I've been having a similar problem. I haven't found a permanent solution but I have found a work around. If you have TextExpander or Alfred this will work much faster.
I was able to use the 'pmset -g log' terminal command to find out that mDNSResponder was the reason my MBP wouldn't fall alseep. So it has something to do with Bonjour.
I then found a pair of command codes to shut off and turn on Bonjour. After using them, my MBP goes to sleep without issue.
Turn Off Bonjour: sudo launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.mDNSResponder.plist
Turn On Bonjour: sudo launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.mDNSResponder.plist
You'll notice that when you turn off Bonjour that you won't be able to use the Internet. That is the only down side to this work-around.
Using Textexpander you can use 'ssleep' and 'wwake' for the two command codes and alfred can give you quick access to the terminal.
    I hope that helps somewhat.

when i open up computer the login screen comes up and then goes dark right away.  can't do anything with it.  close lid and open up and it comes up again and then goes dark.  i have to shut off and restart to get through the login page.  then seems to work untill i close lid again.  just started this today.  software is up to date.  using a month old mbp 15.  any suggestions?  thanks.

You could try wiping the hard drive and reinstalling the OS and all your programs.
Did you install any programs yesterday?
If not it may be best to take it to an Apple care center and have it checked out. Take it in while it is asleep so you ccan show then what is happening.

  • MacBook Pro won't boot, sleep light is on, nothing else

    Help!
I've got a late 2007 MacBook Pro that got a new HD under warranty in late 2008. It's worked great through last night until this morning. This am, when I turn it on (fully charged and plugged in), it won't boot. The machine makes a little noise, then the sleep light comes on. It never even gets to the "chime" to show that the system is loading.
    I've tried the following:
Reset the PRAM - it won't do it
Start in safe mode - it won't do it
Startup from Install disk - it won't do it
Access the drive in firewire Target mode - it won't do it
Reset the SMC - no change
All it does, is turn on the sleep light, spin the DVD drive (because I put the install DVD in) and nothing else.
    Any ideas?
I have a Time Machine Backup that is 2-3 weeks old, but I'm still likely to lose some of my photos, emails, etc, if this is a hard drive again.
    Please help!

Did you do anything in particular to get it to boot up? If I could get mine to boot then I could work with it. I've got an external monitor that might connect, but if not, I should be able to share the screen from my Mac Mini. But I can't get it to boot.
Also, what time zone are you in? Since the same problem happened to us both on the same day, I wonder if something in the date is causing a failure in sleep/wake. I've had my fingers crossed that when tomorrow rolls around it will boot up again. Crazy, perhaps, we'll see. You give me hope.

  • Display off, sleep light half-on

    Hello,
This post is NOT about a wake from sleep issue, that's a different (and old) problem.
If your MacbookPro (MacbookPro3,1) is exhibiting the following after power-up:
    * sleep light dim or half on
    * display blank or display black or blank screen or black screen
Then you're in the same boat with many other MacbookPro users.
Some have posted solutions including starting in firewire target disk mode and then restarting (doesn't always work). Here is the solution that I've found to work consistently.
    Solution:
    Delete /System/Library/Extensions.mkext
    (sudo rm /System/Library/Extensions.mkext)

I would like to post my resolution to this issue. After taking the laptop to the Apple store and getting rejected for the free Nvidia repair, I called Apple support directly, and they allowed me to send in my Macbook Pro for repair.
It arrived back to me in three days(!) all fixed, no charge.
Hey Apple, THANK YOU! (Please help the others having this issue)

  • Change display close actions, and turn off sleep light

I know apple doesn't like to make these things easy to change but here goes... my powerbook is in my bedroom. when I close the lid, I must put something in front of the glowing sleep light or it keeps ME awake. is there a way to disable it? or does this fall into the same category as moving the song name column out of the first position in itunes? apple has made a decision (based on who knows what input) and the end user is stuck with it...?
while we're at it: can I change the action performed when I close the lid? lock my user account but don't put the computer to sleep, for example? leave everything as it is but just turn off the display? mute the volume? show that I'm still online but attach an away message in adium? these are all things I could do with windows (tho I would never switch back) and I'm not sure why it seems so hard to do things like this with a mac.

    Welcome to the forum.

Description and modification of the different hibernate modes
When the computer goes into sleeping mode, its behavior depends on a power management variable called hibernate mode. The hibernate mode can be set to different values:
    * 0 : Default sleep behavior on most Apple computers. RAM is still powered on while sleeping. Wake up is fast. Safe sleep is disabled.
    * 1 : Hibernation behavior. System is totally shut down while sleeping. RAM contents are dumped to disk. Wake up is slow.
    * 3 : Default behavior on Powerbook HD computers. RAM is still powered on while sleeping. Wake up is fast. Safe sleep is enabled, so RAM contents are also dumped to disk before going to sleep.
Only a single mode can be activated at a time. In order to check what hibernate mode is currently active, the following command can be used in the Terminal application:
    pmset -g | grep hibernatemode
In addition, users with administrator privileges can choose the hibernate mode. In order to do so, the following command can be used:
    sudo pmset -a hibernatemode X
with X replaced by the value of the hibernate mode to set. You will be asked to enter your admin password. It will not be echoed.

  • Macbook Pro speakers fade in and out, speaker to speaker

I have an early 2011 15" Macbook Pro, using Mac OX Mountain Lion 10.8.3
The last few weeks I have noticed my speakers fading in and out. It does it in various players an browsers (youtube, blip.tv, quicktime, etc.,.) I tried this solution, but I cannot find that plist file anywhere on my computer, even after showing hidden files! I tried doing a PRAM reset, no dice.
Is that plist file suppose to be missing? How can I that plist file on my computer? If I have to go to the genius bar, will they have to charge me, or make me replace the laptop for a 'new' one because I do not have AppleCare?
I have only had this mac for a couple of months, and I haven't gotten any liquids on it, nor have I dropped it! Please help!

    Hi Kate...
This has been happening on different players
    Might be corrupted preferences ...
    Go to  /Library/Preferences
Move the com.apple.soundpref.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Trash.
    Restart your Mac.
The Mac OS X will regenerate a new .plist file for you.

  • Turn off freaky little sounds when moving in and out of programs

how do I get rid of the annoying little sounds that accompany my moving in and out of programs.

    Ah, the sound of Silence!
Control Panel > icon view > Sound > Click the Sounds Tab
Here you can either Select something far less irritating than whatever is bugging you now
    OR
You can scroll down through the list and selct "No Sounds"
    For Windows 7:
Also!  Remember to UNCHECK "Play Windows Startup sound"

  • Adjusting songs to start a certain point (removing fade ins and outs)

I purchased some white noise recordings but they have a fade in and fade out. I was told there is a way to have iTunes start and stop the "song" a point I choose. So that I can remove the fade in and have seamless white noise. How do I do this? I can't seem to find it by just clicking around in iTunes.
    Thanks!
    Jenn

    Select the song file.
    Right click - get info.
    Select the Option tab.
Set the Start and Stop points.
You can menu Advanced -> Convert selection to, to add a new copy of the file with these points as the actual start/stop times, leaviong the original file untouched.

  • Macbook air wot get off sleep?

I have a recently bought a Macbook air- at most 3 weeks old. Due to the close proximity of the power button to the delete button, I sometimes press the off button accidentally. The Air then goes into sleep mode, at which it is usually toggled off if I close the lid and open it again. However, there are some times when ono amount of closing the lid and re-opening will do the trick, or hitting the space bar (or any key for that matter.) LIghtly tappping the power button again doesn't work- what only seems to work is to restart the computer. This is very annoying- as I am writing someething and have to restart entirely and also re-login into my accounts.
I have unchecked "put all hardware to sleep" in System Preferences.
    Any solutions?

Common problem, for which Apple have yet to produce a solution.  It is said that they are working on a firmware update that will address it but this has been talked about for a long time and still no update.

The current "solution" (which is not a solution) given by Apple is to set sleep mode to 'never', or to wait a few secconds after sleep before waking the MBA, or install the free App 'Caffeine" which allows you to manually activate sleep and wake.
Some persons have claimed a "bare metal restore" of the operating system resolved the problem but others have tried this without success.

  • Is it possible to turn off sleep light indicator

I mean when I closed the lid, the blinking light really disturb my sleep

The solution is quite easy... actually the same for getting that nasty blinking "12:00" off your VCR
    Place electrical tape over it...
But seriously - you may want to go to an auto parts store - they sell "chrome tape pinstriping".
Cut out the pinstriping to the size of the button, and you have your solution.
Or you can go to your local vinyl shop and find someone to cut one for you (then mass produce it for you) and sell it to other MBP users that want the same thing... wait, no I'm going to do that PATENT PENDING!!!!!
