Macbook hardware

hello everyone! i am new user of macbook pro with retina display i have 4 gb 1600 MHz DDR3
i download some movies from utorrent and then later i delete them but my mac is still showing 61.18 gb free out of 120.47 gb!
so how is get my gb?

When Time Machine backs up a portable Mac, some of the free space will be used to make local snapshots, which are backup copies of recently deleted files. The space occupied by local snapshots is reported as available by the Finder, and should be considered as such. In the Storage display of System Information, local snapshots are shown as  Backups. The snapshots are automatically deleted when they expire or when free space falls below a certain level. You ordinarily don't need to, and should not, delete local snapshots yourself.

    1. The scrolling, as far as I've been able to determine, is by using the slide bar to the right of most diplays. There are no up or down arrows that allow slow movement
    2. The top and botton toolbars are not visible. The top one appears when you point the arrow to the top of the screen but the same doesn't work well if at all pointing the cursor to the bottom.
    3. When downloading, something jumps to the upper right of the screen. I could point and click it and get a diplay if my downloads. I was attempting to fix some of the above. Now the little thing jumps off the screen and I can't get to it.
4I was trying to installMacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update 2.3. I got message it couldn't be installed on my system.
    5. The red yellow and blue bullets that allow shutting down, minimizing and maximizing are missing on most open windows.
Can you do something about these problems
It's problematical that one can't communicate directly with Apple to resolve these problems

  • Massive macbook hardware failure

i have been having some issues with my macbook over the last couple of days and they just keep escalating. it started with my entire computer freezing temporarily everytime i would receive a message on msn. then it would have insane load times for the most menial of tasks. and then, just today, i have no audio (it doesn't even claim to have the ability to have audio), and my usb ports stopped working.
this all started happening when my alerts daemon started having issues.
any ideas, cause this is total ********.

I'd call Applecare or take it into a Mac genius. They don't sound like things that I would spend much time fooling around with myself. In the very beginning when I got my MacBook I was having a certain problem that I went around and around on these boards trying to solve. It wound up being a hardware issue that was easily fixed by Apple and could only be fixed by Apple.
While everyone on here is great, has wonderful suggestions and good technical advice, if is it a hardware issue all they can give you is moral support. They can't fix it for you. All I did by not calling Apple on my hardware issue in the first place was delay a solution.

I'm having the same issue. Different programs though, it's mostly browsers and adobe products. I thought maybe it was heat related but it's not. It seems that as soon as Lion was about to be released, the updates were updating in preparation for Lion. I delayed updating the software updates because Adobe (my career) isn't totally compatible with Lion yet. Before I even started getting update notifications, though, within the recent week, it's freezing up constantly. I don't know what to do. It seems to be happening with my brower choice, I'm using Firefox and Chrome as my main browsers. I keep alot of sessions open but that shouldn't cause (and has never caused) this constant freezing issue. I did install some extensions in Chrome and Firefox, maybe that's the problem... The issues began after those were installed though, 3 weeks to a month later... Maybe the software updates (that I installed thinking it would correct the freezing issue), maybe they are preventing other browsers ? Maybe Apple is getting rid of Chrome and Firefox ? I'm not having issues with Safari (yet) though I just opened it for the first time in 2 months... only because the macbook is freezing (and it's also rebooting while asleep, closing all of my projects and not saving them)...
My Macbook Pro is the same year and the HDD is a year new. The manufacture recall had the video whatever replaced a few months ago.
I've never had these kinds of problems with an Apple computer. I'm using Snow Leopard and I'm very attached to this laptop ! It's configured perfectly.
Why oh why does it freeze constantly within the recent 1-2 weeks ?
    Someone please help us !

  • New MacBook Hardware - Inside -

    Buon Anno a tutti.......
    Ciao a tutti
I had the opportunity to open a new MacBook-Pro 13 and examine how it is assembled ......
Nothing to say about ll 'assembly but, I was somewhat perplexed on a choice of integrating the "RAM" on the motherboard .........
This solution, in my view is not the most happy, because the desks of "RAM" are that component which does not say critical, it would be a lie, but we say subject to damage and breakage as the same thing can occur on the PCIe-SSD which, removidile with some difficulty, and mounted separate from the rest ........
I will not criticize the choice and the reasons adopted but, I think that is not a happy choice to integrate the "RAM" on the motherboard, for so many reasons ......
The choice during the purchase of the machine, is obliged to quantify whether the "RAM" is sufficient or not ..... very difficult to determine .......
In case of accidental damage, high repair costs if not even tweak the rottamazioe machine ........
As the choice of adopting a PCIe-SSD to reduce weight and space use of third-party hardware, both excellent choices.
I hope that Apple reconsider this choice, integrate the "RAM" on "SW", and go back to the classics benches removable ..........

  • Macbook hardware spec.

where can i find my macbook pro's hardware spec on this website...
i recently took it for repairs and want to check whether they changed any of the hardware on it.
    thanx

You can find your Mac's specs through System Profiler (Apple menu -> About this Mac -> More Info) or through other software.
To find your Mac's specifications you should go here and put in your Serial Number. Your Serial Number is either on the System Profiler pane or under Apple menu -> About This Mac -> Click twice on the Version number
-- And as Brody said of course don't put your serial here. Go to the link and do it.

  • Macbook Hardware Update

    Hello,
I was wondering when Apple will upgrade the Macbooks again, because I'm about to buy one, but I don't know if it's the right moment to buy one now.
So, does somebody knows whether Apple will upgrade (hardware specs) the Macbooks in the upcoming six months?
    Thanks!
p.s. Sorry if this question is in the wrong category

It's not in the wrong category, but no one here can tell you when Apple plans to upgrade their specifications. Apple does regularly upgrade their processors (as they have done recently with a number of models) when faster processors become available. Most of these changes would be negligible in terms of performance with respect to what they are replacing. Apple does not pre-announce upgrades and speculation about such is against this sites Terms of Use. MacRumors does make an educated guess on when products will be updated... but it's nothing more than a guess based somewhat on past history:

  • Could anyone give me some pointers for my macbook hardware upgrade path?

I have a few questions concerning my Macbook Pro 5,1. Firstly, I'd like to purchase a solid state drive to replace my existing 7200 rpm disk, and I'm not sure what interface I should purchase. System profiler lists my SATA controller as a MCP79 AHCI, with a 3 Gigabit link speed. What SATA standard does this correspond to?
Secondly, what is the maximum amount of RAM that my motherboard can work with? I've seen reports of 8gb and of 6gb, so I'm not sure what to think.
Finally, I would like to purchase an Optibay cradle for my existing hard drive, so I could have two disks in my computer at once. Would Apple provide me with service if I request them to install it for me?

MacBook Pros have a SATA interface and use 2.5" notebook drives. Your model can support up to 8 GBs of RAM: 204-pin PC3-8500 (1066 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM.
Apple will not install third-party hardware. You can purchase a DIY kit complete with tools from OWC that allows you to install an SSD in place of the optical drive. They are also an excellent source for RAM and hard drives.

  • Giving MacBook Hardware (RAM and HD) to a new iMac

Ok, so here is what i want to do:
I just got an 20 inch Imac 2.4Ghz, and i have a MacBook Black 2.0 Ghz (late 2006), i want to know if i can use the extra RAM i have in my macbook for the iMac, since the MacBook has two 1Gb modules, i want to give one of those to the iMac so it has 2Gb instead of two, i also got an HD 320gb in my macbook i want to know if i can put that one in the iMac instead the 250GB that comes with, and put the 250GB HD to the Macbook, i havent turned on the imac so i want to know if i put that new HD to my macbook when i turn it on it will start like a new mac with the initial confoguration, cause thats what i want it cause im gonna give the macbook to someone else.
Is all this possible or the RAM modules, and the HD are not compatible? and will the macbook be like a new computer? for example will it get the free me.com account trial?

The worst thing that is likely to happen is that it doesn't get past power-on self test.
Actually, the worst thing (at least in my mind) that could happen is that the system would boot but that it would be unreliable, something quite possible with below-spec RAM. It's not worth such a possibility in my opinion, not when a 1GB DIMM of the correct speed is under $20.00 US.
That's not going to happen if the serial presence detect EEPROM is programmed correctly and the memory controller properly reads that it's DDR2 667/PC2-5300. I've heard of some machines stopping after POST, but that's about it. If it's Apple OEM memory, I'd be surprised if it wasn't correct. Intel has memory controllers that properly check and have the flexibility to use slower memories.
If you look at the spec sheets for Intel motherboards (complete with CPU and memory controller) of this vintage, they claim support for either DDR2 667 or 800.
Like I said - I've gotten my MacBook (standard with DDR2 667 / PC2-5300) to run properly on DDR2 533 that came from another machine. It worked just fine and was displayed in System Profiler as "533 MHz". It's wasn't to save money or anything. I was just curious.

    Hello alece
    No the 2008 Early iMac's use PC2-6400 800MHz ram, while the 2006 thru 2007 iMac's and MacBooks use PC2-5300 667MHz ram.
No the Desktop iMac's have Serial ATA 7200 rpm 3.5" HD's and the MacBooks use Serial ATA 5400 rpm 2.5" HD's
    Here are the spec's for:
    The Early 2008 iMac: http://support.apple.com/kb/SP485
    The Late 2006 MacBook: http://support.apple.com/kb/SP24

  • Macbook + mini-DVI to video adapter problems!

    Hi,
My roommate and I both have Macbooks - I got mine in June '06, it's one of the older black 80 gb models and hers is a white 120 gb that she got in August '07. We bought a mini-DVI to video adapter so we could watch DVDs and video files on our TV, but have been having some trouble with it lately. At first, it worked perfectly with her computer, but in the past few weeks has been malfunctioning - when she plugs it in, the default background shows up on the TV screen but nothing else, any windows she has open only show up on the TV if she drags them to the right on her screen until she can't see them on her computer anymore, so we're unable to watch anything fullscreen. Any tips on how to fix this?
Also, the adapter has never worked with my computer - any time I plug mine in, my computer display becomes enlarged and slightly distorted, and on the TV screen is distorted by horizontal lines that move up and down the screen. Any ideas here?
Thanks so much for the help!

    Hi cbeth,
    welcome to macbook forum.
For your friend macbook, try to press F7 back and forth to switch between mirror and expanded mode.
Try to update your macbook hardware firmware and software using software updater and repair permission after that...application/utilities/disk utility/repair permission.
Also reset your PRAM and PMU.
Open your friend system preference / display and try to compare and set yours similar to hers, including resolution, color depth, refresh rate.
    Good Luck.

  • Slot-loading CD drive on Macbook not showing up at all

Hey everyone. New problem for me. I was trying to load a cd for my mouse into my Macbook tonight and normally, the drive would pull it in after I insert it half-way or so. Well, it's not doing that. I can push the disc in all the way so that my finger is against the laptop, and it won't do a thing. I've had it for over a year and didn't have the Apple protection plan, so I'm stuck there. My one thought is that possibly, when a friend's son accidentally bumped the table my laptop was sitting on and that knocked over a glass of water, that some water may have affected the drive. The water hit the laptop from the back, where the screen hinges to the bottom. The computer boots up and shuts down just fine, but I just noticed the problem with the cd drive tonight. I did try rebooting twice and could not hear anything in the disc drive moving around. I do know that there is no cd/dvd in there.
When I go into System Profilere and click on Disc Burning under hardware, it says, "No burning device was found. If you are using an external device please make sure that it is connected and powered properly."
Anyone have any ideas? I really love my Mac and don't want to revert back to a PC.
This is the hardware overview for my Macbook:
    Hardware Overview:
    Model Name: MacBook
    Model Identifier: MacBook1,1
    Processor Name: Intel Core Duo
    Processor Speed: 2 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 1
    Total Number Of Cores: 2

    Serial Number: 4H626A50U9E
    Sudden Motion Sensor:
    State: Enabled
    Thanks!
    ~broadcasterchick

Well, I tried both of the suggestions above - resetting the PRAM and also the SMC - to no avail. I'm wondering if perhaps in our travels last weekend if I maybe bumped it or something, and maybe something broke in the drive? Would that make it say that no burning device was found?
Also, if I do have to have it replaced, and I were to take it the nearest Apple Store (about 1.5 hours away) besides the gas, what might it cost since I don't have warrenty on it, nor the Apple plan?
Thanks again for the suggestions! Anything else I could try?

  • Macbook mini DVI to DVI output problems

    hi
I've been using a samsung syncmaster 22" with my macbook for about a year now with no problems using the mini DVI to DVI connection
then earlier this week i used a different DVI cable to plug my playstation 3 into the screen, when i plugged the computer DVI cable back into the screen lots of red/pink pixels have taken over the screen and when the desk is nudged red lines flash up
i thought it might be either the DVI cable or the mini DVI to DVI adapter and replaced both to no avail, i have also tested all the cables on other screens/with other computers, and tested the screen with my playstation. Screen and cables all work fine so i think it must be some kind of output problem, but cant work out what it could be seeing as nothing would have happened to the port on the actual computer whilst changing connections on the samsung screen
sorry for the long winded post, really wanna know what the problem is here
