MacBook hdmi lcd display - help needed!

Hi all, I'm connecting my MacBook to my 32" Vizio lcd via hdmi (using a mini-dvi to dvi adaptor & dvi to hdmi cable). When I mirror displays, one of two things happen: (1) either the Vizio display is too small and has black bars around it, or (2) the Vizio display is too large and I cannot see the menu bar or the dock.
The fist time I connected to the tv, I managed to get the full screen display perfectly but have not been able to repeat this since. I've tried everything I can think of - different combinations of resolutions, with and without overscan, etc.
Any advice much appreciated!

Try this:
Hook the MB up to the Vizio.
Hook the MB up to it's Magsafe power adapter and plug the adapter in.
Close the lid on the MB so it goes to sleep.
Now, plug something into a USB port on the MB.
The recommended thing to plug in would be a USB keyboard and mouse. But you could use just one of those, meaning either a keyboard or a mouse. If you don't have a USB keyboard or mouse, you can just plug in one of those USB flash memory devices.
The USB activity will cause the MB to wake up with its lid down and only the external (Vizio) screen will be active. Once that happens, you can lift the lid on the MB and use its keyboard and trackpad and the built-in screen will stay off.

  • Macbook to LED display: help me save my battery!

I have a brand new macbook pro 13-inch, and i have it connected to an apple LED display (the one that came out right before the new thunderbolt led display). There are 3 connections from the macbook to the display. One goes into the power supply port  one into the DVI or thunderbolt port, and the other into the USB.
I am wondering why i can't just remove the first one (the power supply) without my external monitor turning off?
Why should that happen, when the monitor has its own power supply coming from a cord plugged into the wall, and why can it not just run off of my laptops battery?
The reason i'm asking is because i don't want to have the power supply constantly plugged into my laptop anymore. The last laptop that i did this with, the battery expanded and warped my computer.
I very rarely use my laptop as an actual laptop, so i like this setup where my laptop acts as sort of a desktop computer, with wireless keyboard and mouse connected.
i have no other way to drain the battery essentially, but when i unplug it, the external monitor turns black. is there some way to stop this from happening? I dont understand why it would effect the monitor when it should be getting it's power from the wall.

By design, the iphone will sync itunes content with ONE computer at a time. If you attempt to sync such content with a second computer, ALL itunes content will first be erased from your phone & then replaced with the content from the second computer. This is a design feature & cannot be overridden. Because you formatted your computer, the iphone will see your computer as a "new" computer.
1.First, disable auto sync when an ipod/iphone is connected, in preferences, in itunes, which in windows is in the edit menu.
    2. Put one contact & one event in whatever programs you use for that purpose on your computer, they can be fake, doesn't matter, the important point is to have one entry in each.
    3. Connect your phone, itunes running, DO NOT SYNC.
    4. Go up to Store>Authorize this Computer.
    5. Go up to File>Transfer Purchases. All of the purchased itunes content on your phone will be transferred, music you ripped on your own will not be transferred. You will have to use third party software to first extract that music from your phone BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING. Same for photos not in your camera roll, the photo sync is one way...computer to phone. This is one example:
    http://www.wideanglesoftware.com/touchcopy/index.php
    6. Right click the phone in the device pane & select Reset Warnings.
    7. Right click the phone, again, & select Backup.
    8. Right click the phone, again, & select Restore from Backup. Select the backup you just made.
    9. This MUST be followed by a sync to restore your itunes content, which you select as before from the various tabs.
You'll get a popup regarding your contacts & calendars asking to merge or replace, select merge.
This article details what's included in the backup you'll make & restore from:

  • Macbook to TV display help.

When I plug my 13" macbook pro retina via hdmi cable to my HD tv the picture quality on my computer screen is no longer the retina resolution. The picture quality on my tv also isn't very good. The tv is a 26" LED Samsung. Can I fix this?

    Hello XC4lyf,
In order to set independent resolutions for both displays (retina on the built-in display, and the TV's max resolution), you'll want to enable 'Extended desktop' mode.

  • MacBook start up disk help needed

What is the start up disk on a MacBook and how do I make space on it?

The startup disk is usually your HDD.
Freeing Up Space on The Hard Drive
      1. See Lion's Storage Display.
      2. You can remove data from your Home folder except for the /Home/Library/ folder.
      3. Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on freeing up space on your hard drive.
      4. Also see Freeing space on your Mac OS X startup disk.
      5. See Where did my Disk Space go?.
      6. See The Storage Display.
You must Empty the Trash in order to recover the space they occupied on the hard drive.
You should consider replacing the drive with a larger one. Check out OWC for drives, tutorials, and toolkits.

  • IPhone LCD display problem?

    Hi everyone,
Recently a friend has encountered an issue with their iPhone 5. The display of the phone seems to be damaged as the bottom three quarters of the screen are a mix of pink and black stripes, both thick and thin in width. Could this be an issue with the LCD display and need a replacement?
Please don't confuse this issue with the pink interference lines occurring on some iPhone cameras.
Thank you for the advice or suggestions in advance.

    Hey lloyd =D,
Thanks for the question. It definitely sounds like there may be a hardware issue with the device. However, to completely isolate to hardware let’s first try restoring the device as new:
iOS: How to back up your data and set up your device as a new device
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4137
After erasing and setting up as a new device, your device is now in a factory configuration. Test to determine if erasing and setting up as a new device resolved the issue. Content on the device may have caused unexpected behavior.
If the issue is still present, you may want to contact Apple Support.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • Black screen on MacBook Pro Retina Display after installing Moutain Lion. Need Help!

My macbook pro (retina) screen went black after I installed Mountain Lion.
I got a HDMI cable to another monitor and the image worked nicely there.
But i cant get it back on my MacBook Pro! I tried taking out the HDMI cable, restarting, searching on settings configs..
    What should I do?
Are there any drivers i should install to get image back on my MacBook Pro Retina Display?
Has this happened to anyone else?
Thanks in advance for all the help.

That helped me finding other people with similar problems.
But there is a major difference!
-They have a black screen after they login.
-My screen is black NOW! And I'm only using my BRAND NEW rmbp with the HDMI cable to my TV!
This isnt good at all and I would like to solve it asap..
I tried reinstalling Mountain Lion, taking out the hdmi cable and rebooting many times.
    Until now, nothing!
Is my screen broken or maybe my video card has some problems?
I hope not! I just traveled from the US to Brazil and I dont want to search for an Apple Store here.
Any tips or ideas are welcome, thank you.

  • Color management on LCD displays, need help

    Dear all,
I know the same topic has been already raised so many times, but i just can't help to ask it again. I am sorry for that, I just realize I will at least get a concept of what to do next. Ppl here are helpful.
I don't own any Apple monitor. I have a Macmini, connected to a new SONY LCD display, SDM-HS95P, by DVI connector.
As everyone knows the situation of LCD monitors. They have higher contrast, brigther image that traditional CRT monitors. That's why photographers and graphic designers are blaming all the time.
And now, I face the same as they do. My monitor is no more "WYSIWYG". The red i have here, may become another red on printing. The yellow I have here, may become orange on CRT.
I calibrated with the Colorsync of OSX, I decreased the contrast and bright level of my monitor, but they dont help much.
Someone suggested here to purchase color management hardwares. Of coz i know they are helpful. But the point is, how can a little student to afford a such expensive hardware for only doing color management?
Apple displays are all in LCD these days, how does Apple help their users to overcome the mentioned situation?
I know this maybe just a never-ending question, but i think ppl here may come up with some new ideas in resolving this.
Please kindly help, much appreciate! Thanks!
    regards,
    KKCHUNG

    Hi.
Apple cinema displays do not offer the user the ability to adjust the contrast. You need to be able to adjust contrast when calibrating the 2nd monitor to match the target white and black luminence values of the first monitor.
Contrast is needed in order to adjust the white luminence value of the monitor you are calibrating. You need to be able to adjust the black and white luminence values of monitor 2 when using the white and black luminence target values from monitor 1 if you want both monitors to be calibrated so that they use the same (same but seperate) profiles.
Colorvision (makers of spyder2 pro) has indicated that this is a huge issue with the ACD monitors and they are currently researching a workaround.
If anyone knows how to fix this... please tell me (us)... thanks.

  • LCD monitor display issue, need help

I have a strange problem with my LCD display, it goes like this:
When I first boot up the mac and the wallpaper appears on the display the image looks perfect, all the tones are right etc, but as the startup progresses, programs loading etc, the display changes suddenly, becomes too bright in the highs, too dark in the lows, and over-saturated in between. Its looks horrible.
I have just discovered that I can correct the issue by going into system prefs, display, selecting the options tab (next to Display and Color) and turning overscan on, then back off, voila, all fixed.
    Looks great.
Thing is I have to do this every time now that I start the computer, and Im wondering if anyone knows what causes this issue and if theres anything I can do as a more robust solution.
The kicker is I have the same problem with a viewsonic LCD on my secondary machine (Powermac G5, Osx 10.4), right at the beginning of startup it looks great then suddenly all goes wrong, too dark/light over-saturated. Its as if the image has been blended with itself in multiply mode a la photoshop.
And on my second machine there is no option for overscan so I cant use my quick fix.
Is overscan a feature of the OS or the monitor?
The worst part is I need these displays to work correctly because Im a graphic designer, I need my colors to look right so I can do my job, and while I could go buy a $1000 monitor its not possible atm, and Id kinda like to know why this problem occurs. So if I do buy a different I can be assured the problem wont rear its ugly head again. But I dont think the problme is the monitor. I think its something to do with the communication between the display and the computer.
The monitor can display correctly, and does for a brief moment, then it all goes very wrong. Ive spoken to NEC and they werent much help but Ill be trying them again today too.
But again, I thinks its the computer, not the monitors as I can reproduce the issue swapping out monitors.
I hope Ive described it adequately,
Thanks in advance for any help forthcoming, this is very frustrating and is causing me endless headaches.

    Mattdp,
I am currently having the same problem with my 20" cinema display. Did you ever find a long term solution? Apple states that the PowerMac G5 is legacy with no support available, and suggested a reset the PRAM. I did so to no avail. I too have 10.4.11 and thus no "overscan" to turn off. This is my wife's primary computer for her photography business, and the color issue needs to be resolved as quickly as I can find the answer.
Is there a possible solution through the terminal?
    Rick
