MacBook hooked up to an LCD

Hi All,
I have a Vizio GV47L and an original MacBook. I have bought the mini-dvi to dvi adapter hooked up to a DVI-HDMI Cable.
The picture shows up great, however there are black bars on each side of the LCD. The resolution I'm pushing to the LCD is 1920x1080.
Anyone know how to get the picture take up the whole LCD?

According to this page:
http://support.apple.com/specs/macbook/macbook.html
The maximum resolution put out is 1920x1200.
copy/paste:
Extended desktop and video mirroring: Simultaneously supports full native resolution on the built-in display and up to 1920 x 1200 pixels on an external display, both at millions of colors

  • Small vertical lines when connecting macbook to a Samsung 37" LCD via HDMI

    Hi
Just connected my macbook to a Samsung 37" LCD thru the HDMI port. Works a treat bar one issue...on non-moving images, colours which aren't whites or blacks, namely brighter colours, there appear small vertical lines. These seem to appear around the areas where there is a substantial difference between 2 colours (example the outline of a face against a lighter or darker background).
Tried all the obvious things such as calibration, different resolutions etc but cant get rid of them...they dont seem to be there with moving images though and certainly not on mainly white displays such a the Google homepage for example............Any thoughts?
    Much obliged

  • How do i connect my macbook pro retina display to lcd projector

How do i connect my macbook pro retina display to lcd projector?

Depends on what type of video connection the projector accepts. Most common would be DVI, VGA or HDMI. Review this article for more information: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3235

  • Connecting a Macbook Pro to a Samsung LCD TV. Can anyone tell me where to find information on what I need and how to do it?

I want to connect my 2009 Macbook Pro to my Samsung LCD TV. I am afraid to go somewhere and ask and get bogus information so am putting it out here to see if anyone can help with the how tos and the types of cords/adapters I might need to purchase.

You might profit from a visit to a Minneapolis Apple store. With a brand new Mac, I think they will be most helpful - not just with transferring files, but with other advice as well. And I strongly recommend you invest in a back up drive. The Apple folk can help with that as well.

  • Hooking Macbook up to 40 ' Samsung LCD

I just bought a mini display port adapter to hook my macbook to my LCD via HDMI. When I plug it in all that comes up on the LCD is my desktop wallpaper. How do I set it up so I can watch movies etc.. from my macbook through the TV?

yeah you have to mirror the image. i have a samsung too. you can also choose mirroring from the display menu next to your bluetooth and volume menus.
i had a problem with using closed lid mode so if you plan on doing this and need help let me know.
i also started a topic on this but the solution is pretty simple if you have problems.

  • How could I hook my MacBook Pro to my Samsung LCD TV??

I'm using a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter hooked to an HDMI cable which is hooked to the TV. nothing is showing. How to go from there?

Get a cable such as this:
    http://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matters-DisplayPort-Thunderbolt-Compatible/dp/B004CA DY9I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1395596227&sr=8-1&keywords=thunderbolt+cable+to+hdmi
You do not need any adapters and it will transmit audio and video.
    Ciao.

  • Macbook Pro Off-Center on LCD TV

I am wanting to use my Macbook Pro hooked to a Samsung 32" LCD TV as a secondary display. When I attempt to set the Samsung resolution to 1360x768 in Mac's display preference, the image is off-center with a black band down the left side of the tv. I have used the dvi to vga supplied with my macbook, and have vga going into the set. When i set the resolution to 1024x768 the image is centered (but stretched).
Anyone else seen this? Any suggestions? I have searched the forum and the entire interweb, but cannot find anything.
    Thanks!

Yes, DVI-to-HDMI is probably your best bet.

  • MacBook Pro ( Late 2007) Replacement LCD Issues

    Hey everyone,
I'm new to the forum and I was hoping you guys could help me out.
I have a MacBook Pro 2,2Ghz Santa Rosa, with a failing LCD. ( 2/3 of the LCD panel are just black...) So, I took it appart and found the panel inside my MBP to be a LG LP154WP2 TL-A1. I bought a new LCD panel from eBay which was described as being compatible with my MBP. When it arrived, it turned out to be a LG LP154WP2 TL-A3.
When I connect this panel to my MBP logicboard, I only get a white screen. System boots up normaly and I can see it in the network, and when I hook op an external display, is get a normal dekstop.
I did a SMC reset twice, cleared the NVRAM/PRAM and triple checked al connections ( LVDS on logicboard and display ) but everything is oke.
The eBay seller claims this panel has to work with this model MacBook Pro, and actually send me another panel, also a TL-A3, but I get the same white screen.. When I hook up the original TL-A1, I get picture again...
So my question, Is the TL-A3 panel compatible with my MBP, or do I need a different revision LVDS cable, or what else am I doing wrong?
Thanks for the help in advance

    Hi Wiebo,
seeing you are also from the Low Countries (I am from Flanders), I could just as easily answer you in Dutch. For good Forum order, lets stick to English.
From experience, I can tell you that a blank display is mostly due to a faulty Data Display Cable or connector, in both cases in this thread possibly an incompatible cable or connector, probably meaning you will have to stick to the exact TL-A1 in both your cases. If the new display has a bigger resolution than the original, probably the cable will have more data lines.
Do the connectors on the TFT side look exactly alike on both the defective TFT and the replacement part?
Also, you could as a last resort try to put the connectors on the mainboard slightly askew. I have a Powerbook which was cured in this way.
    Good luck!

  • HD STB hooked up to Samsung LCD TV

Anyone having issues with their STB that is hooked up to a Samsung LCD TV via HDMI?  It seems that I have to reset the STD by unplugging the power to the STB at least once weekly due to lost connection. The holdtime for tech support is "shall we say extensive" so the workaround for me is a hard reset which was suggested by Tech support.  I also noticed that I can no longer reset any of my 4 STB on line by logging into my account. In the My Services setion on the TV, there is a message there that says "No STB found".  Any thoughts?

    Thx G-pon.
Some more background here.  I had the HDMI go out on my other TV which is Sharp LCD TV while hooked up to the STB.   That TV is now hooked up via component and works fine with no issues.  I thought that the issue may have been a STB issue with HDMI but it seems like a co-incidence.  BTW I had the HDMI checked out by a Sharp authorized service person who confirmed that the HDMI board is infact bad and needs to be replaced for $300. (too expensive)
Also, any thoughts as to the second part of my question regarding vewing and resetting the STB's in my account?

  • Flicker when connecting Macbook Pro to LG 20in LCD

    Hi all
When I connect my Macbook Pro to my LG 20in LCD (L204WT) I get a flicker on the LCD panel. I've tried the following which all work (i.e. no flicker on the external panel):
    * connecting the LG to my Powerbook G4
    * connecting the MBP to a Viewsonic 20in monitor
    * connecting the MBP to the LG via VGA (d-sub) - although the display seems to be less sharp than I'm used to
I've used 2 sets of DVI cables, but to no avail. It's only the LG-DVI-MBP combination that does not work.
    Does anyone have any ideas?

I'm trying to connect my mbp to an LG TV.
I have a mini dvi to hdmi, then a hdmi to hdmi monster cable to my TV, but when i connect i can only see in the tv the screensaver on my computer; no video or applications or menu is shown in the LG, just the screensaver i have. Nothings happening when i play a movie in my computer.
I selected and tryied all of my tv's hdmi ports and is the same.
    What can i do?
    Thanks.
    R.
First, mini-DVI adapters are used in MBP's that predate the ones covered in this forum. Nevertheless, there could be any number of issues, the most important of which is you need to go to System Preferences>Displays, and make certain you've set up dual displays in Arrangements.
Also, remember, in your MBP sound is not transferred through the mini-DVI port. You need to set up sound via a digital TOSlink cable from the MBP to your entertainment system.
Finally, some iTunes movies have DRM restrictions that will block the video from going to your TV.

  • Late 2009 Macbook aluminium Output to Samsung LCD (SyncMaster 710T) problem

Have bought a Mini-Display port to DVI cable for connecting macbook to the Samsung LCD monitor. Output is fine but if i left my desk (with macbook on), and when the Macbook goes to power saving mode or sleep...after i switch it back on, my lcd display flicker and fails. It too fails to get signal at times...am I experience a weird problem?
or there is in fact some fault with my macbook?
    or my LCD problem?

Anyone encounters what I am experiencing now?
I noted that there is an update for the Mini-Display Port to VGA.
    What about DVI??

  • What connects do I need to hook up a 2nd LCD monitor to my p7-1380t HP computer?

My current monitor is a Samsung Starlight LCD monitor hooked up to my p7--1380t (approx 23 inches).  I want to set up a 2nd monitor which is a DELL LCD (unable to find monitor model #).
Can you advise me which ports to use on the back of my computer and which cable type I should get for the Dell monitor?

    Okrafarmboy, welcome to the forum.
We don't have information on Dell monitors.  However, I believe that it will be either VGA or DVI (D or I).  It depends on the age of the monitor.
Here is a guide to help you connect the two monitors to the computer.

  • Streaming video from Macbook Pro to 46 inch LCD

I am trying to stream video from my 13 inch Macbook Pro to my 46 inch Samsung LCD TV. I am using a HDMI cable to a DVI cable to attach the computer. When I play videos from iTunes, the picture looks great, however when I am streaming video from an internet site such as Netflix, the picture is not great (it almost looks pixilated). I am wondering, is this an issue with my computer (video card, etc) or does it have to do with my internet connection (I currently have the lower DSL connection)? Is there any other way to make the picture look better? Thanks for your help.

Yes, forget streaming that way, .....the ANSWER youre looking for is the APP BEAMER

  • Macbook and Sony KDL-32EX401 LCD TV

I bought a Sony KDL-32EX401 LCD TV and wanted to connect it throgh HDMI cable with my macbook, but it won´t work. After that I tried it with a Panasonic Plasma TV and it worked without problems. Can anyone tell me what to do that I can get my mac screen on my new Sony TV?

    hi krj027,
I have initially had the same issue as you. The Sony Bravia KDL-32EX401 seemed not to recognize signals conveyed through mini display adapter- hdmi connection. I corrected this successfully by using a HDMI switch, this is the link on ebay:
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MINI-HDMI-AUTO-SWITCH-BOX-3-1-out-NEW-SEALED-/190474606666 ?pt=UKConsumerElectronics_VideoSwitches_SM&hash=item2c592bd84a#ht_1618wt937
I could not find an answer to how this made it work but I guess it is worth giving it a try. The connection I used was: macbook- mini display adapter- hdmi cable- hdmi switch- hdmi cable- Sony Bravia KDL-32EX401. I believe other hdmi switches other than in the link should work too.
    Good luck!
