Macbook: I can't see my home network....

I am using a Macbook as detailed in my profile. Yesterday, upon getting home from work I booted up my Macbook to find out I couldn't get on the net.
Upon further investigation I found that the Macbook could not see my home network, despite me using it the previous evening. It can see all the other local networks that it usually can, as well as the mobile modem that I am using to type this now.
All other computers on the network can see it, and looking on the network configuration screen it can see my Macbook. But I can't see it
The router is a Belkin one

Tried that yesterday - still no joy

  • Can't see my home network

I have a late 2008 13" macbook with latest version of lion installed. Everything was great since the day I bought it but couple of days ago a weird thing happened. all of a sudden I couldnt see my home network on the wi-fi list. All of the devices in the house was working without a problem including my iphone. So it was not the router. I went to school next day to see if something is wrong with my mac but I connected to any other network without a problem. So I guess nothing is wrong with my macbook too. There was a brand new router in the house I set it up and tried again. It looked like the problem solved but then it started happening again.
I tried deleting my network history, turning off the wi-fi then restarting the machine but nothing has changed. Now I am connected with an ethernet cable but can't use all the great features of wireless internet at home.
The worst part is I don't have any idea about how to start searching for a solution.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

  • My 13in Macbook Pro can't see a wireless network but my friends Macbook Pro can

Me and my friend both have identical 13 in Macbook Pro's except he has 250 gb and I have 350gb. Everything else is the same even the wireless card. The problem is, he can see and connect to a unsecured wireless network but i can't. Why is this ?
Our computers can see the same networks on the list but my Macbook does not see one network, the unsecured network !!!

I never said there wasn't an issue, just that blame could not be assigned based on what we know now and that there are many more people not having problems with Leopard and WiFi than those that are.
In my circle of associates I know of literally hundreds of Mac owners, of which approximately three are having WiFi issues.
I know how frustrating it is to be one of those afflicted - my stories of constant WiFi drops for the first six months I owned my MBP have been recounted in several threads.
But it's just as frustrating to read how Leopard is just plain broken when in fact I've not seen a single WiFi drop in Tiger or Leopard since February 2007.
This is also why I've continually urged people experiencing the problem to open an AppleCare case - it's only then that Apple Engineering can find the commonalities in cases where WiFi is failing and either fix their driver or notify the router manufacturer of their bug.
Are there bugs with AirPort in Leopard? Of course, and I even know of one that affects me on occasion that's known, and that's a failure to reassociate with a known network when waking from sleep. The workaround is simple - toggle AirPort off and back on - but it's a known issue nevertheless.
But each of these threads addresses an individual problem, and among the numbers of people experiencing difficulties, few report that their Mac sees no wireless networks, and that's what the advice I've given in this thread is geared towards.

  • MacBook can't see my home wireless network after upgrade to OSX 10.8.5

After upgrading to OSX 10.8.5, my MacBook does not detect any wireless nertworks. My iPad and iPhone work fine, my router has been rebooted, WiFi is turned on, and the ethernet connection is how I am writing this message to you via broadband. There are a half dozen wireless networks in range (according to my iPhone) but the MacBook cannot find the router I am sitting next to. Any ideas on how to correct this issue?

It appears an SMC reset was required:
HT5815 I've just done the 10.8.5 update on my MacBook Pro end of 2008, and WiFi don't work after reboot... Impossible to activate it...
Here is your other post: MacBook can't see my home wireless network after upgrade to OSX 10.8.5
If you reply to it and marked it "solved", perhaps with a link to that post (copy and paste it, or just say you performed the SMC reset) it will help others find a solution. Thanks!

  • MacBook Pro can't see Airport network but three other macs in house can

Very strange. I can connect my three iMacs (G3, G5 PowerPC and G5 Intel) to my Airport Extreme Network, but my MacBook Pro can no longer see the Network, and Airport utility (from MacBook Pro) cannot see the Airport base station (although other macs' Airport Utility can no problem). My MacBook pro can see 4 other networks (my neighbours' networks). Doesn't seem to be a problem with my MacBook Pro airport card as I can connect to the (non-Mac) wireless network at work with no problem. Am really confused (not the first time)!
Installed the latest Airport Extreme firmware last week, which was the start of the problem, as I then lost the ability to connect to my Virgin Media Broadband digital TV box, necessitating Virgin engineer visiting at weekend to connect a cable modem to the cable tv box, to which the Airport Extreme station is now attached. Had problems connecting my MacBook Pro last night, but eventually managed it. All other macs connect seamlessly. Am stumped.

I'm troubleshooting a friend's MacBook (Model ID: MacBook4,1) that is having serious Airport problems. This machine's Airport can't see ANY available networks. Sitting right next to my MacBook (identical model), hers is blind while mine can see several open and locked networks including my own Airport base station. If I choose to "Join Other Network..." and enter the network name and password for my network, her machine almost immediately gives me a "Connection timed out" error. It doesn't matter where her MacBook is, it can't see any networks anywhere.
This is a new problem as her Airport was working fine for the first few months. I've just finished making sure all software updates have been applied so she's now running the latest-greatest, but still no Airport.
This sounds similar to the problems other folks here are describing so I figured I'd add my voice to the chorus. I guess I'll take her machine down to the local Apple store this afternoon and see if they have any ideas. At this point I wouldn't be surprised if her Airport card was fried.

  • Macbook Pro can't find my home wifi

I just got my battery replaced.. All my data disappeared. The worst thing is, I can't find my home wifi network but my neighbour wifi network is available. Pls help me fix this.
    Mine is a MBP 2011.
    Your help is much appreciated!

    Hello, Sallyelainelee!
You may want to check the settings on your Router to make sure there isn't something in its configuration that's preventing the MacBook Pro from seeing it. If the MacBook Pro can connect to other WiFi networks OK, I would imagine that this would be the case.

  • Can't find my home network

    Greetings,
I have tried searching this forum and the Apple support pages, and can't find a solution. My new iPod Touch can't find my home network. I have an AirPort Extreme base station and am using WPA/WPA2 Personal security. My MacBook Pro has no problem finding my network, and works flawlessly. My iPod Touch, on the other hand, can not. Even though my home network is not a closed network, I still tried entering the network name and password manually, and it still doesn't see it. I tried turning security off completely in my Base Station>AirPort>Wireless settings, and that didn't help, either. My iPod Touch does see one or two other networks in my neighborhood, but not mine.
For the record, I am sitting less than two feet away from my AirPort Extreme base station, so I'm definitely within range, my iPod Touch can see other networks, so it would seem that it's antenna is not at fault, and my MacBook Pro sees and connects to my network without any problems, so it would seem my AirPort Extreme is set up properly. So what am I doing wrong?
    Any thoughts?

Thanks Scott, that did it. Within range of everything is a wireless security camera that was creating an interference issue with my MacBook Pro and AirPort Extreme, and the only solution, other than disabling the camera, was to switch from 2.4 GHz to 5.0 GHz under Base Station>AirPort>Wireless>Radio Mode, which eliminated b/g compatible. At the time, that was fine because my MacBook Pro was n compatible. I see now that my iPod Touch is not. I tried switching back to b/g compatible, and the iPod Touch found my network right away, but the MacBook Pro lost it.
    Can't win for losing.
The security camera has now been disabled, and both the iPod Touch and the MacBook Pro can access my network. I just won't be able to film the guy who tries to steal them.

  • Mac can't connect to home network

I have a MacBook that I purchased back in Jan 07. It can see my home network, but when I select it it goes through the pacing of the Wifi indicator and then goes to a grey wifi indicator with an exclamation mark and it says "Alert! No internet connection"
On top of this, all I get for a mouse icon is the beach ball. I can still do things, except open finder. What is going on with my mac? I ran a disk repair on it already. Any other ideas?

Since I didn't get any advice I tried re-installing snow leopard, except it tells me it can't change the contents of my hard drive. Any ideas?

  • Can't see my home wifi on my 3g

Just had my 3g screen fixed and now I can't see any wifi networks & I can't attach manually to my home network

Try Resetting Network Settings on the iPhone, just tap Settings, General, Reset, Reset Network Settings.
If that doesn't work you can try restoring the iPhone and setting it up as a new device, but it may have a new problem that was caused by the repri. It might need to go back to the place that repaired the iPhone, to have them reconnect or replace the wifi adapter.
    WTH.

  • I am in an internet cafe and my macbook pro can't find the wireless network available here. I have used this network before. I have restarted my machine several times too. help please

I am in an internet cafe and my macbook pro can't find the wireless network available at the cafe. I have used this network before. I have restarted my machine several times too. help please

Change your router channel.  Sometimes this is all you will have to do.
Power cycling the router.  Read the router's user manual or contact their tech support for instructions.
    System Preferences/Internet & Network/Network
    Unlock the padlock
    Locations:  Automatic
    Highlight Airport
    Click the Assist Me button
In the popup window click the Diagnostic button.
System Preferences/Network- Unlock padlock.  Highlight Airport.  Network Name-select your name.  Click on the Advanced button.  Airport/Preferred Networks-delete all that is not your network.
Place a check mark next to "Remember networks this computer has joined."  Click the OK button and lock the padlock.  Restart your computer.
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1920 Mac OS: How to release and renew a DHCP lease
    No internet connection (wireless)
Check to see if an extra entry is present in the DNS Tab for your wireless connection (System Preferences/Network/Airport/Advanced/DNS).
Delete all extra entries that you find.
Place a check mark next to "Remember networks this computer has joined."

  • Server can't see itself on network, other devices can

When I create a Network user either using Server app or Workgroup manager home folder is not created. I started digging and I found that all devices on the network can see and access server's afp, but server can't see itself on network. On everyone's computer's "server" is shown inside finder, but if I open server's finder I can only see other's computers but I can't see server.
I've tried opening afp://(IP ADDRESS), afp://(DOMAIN), afp://localhost and none of this work inside server. DNS is fine, users can log and see files, etc. The only thing not working is afp from within the server and therefore user's accounts can't be created.
As a background I have a mac mini running under Mountain Lion with OS Server. I had an issue with Open Directory on which I couldn't edit/create/delete any user so I erased the OD Database and started over again.
Any idea will be very appreciated.
    Thanks All !!!

Thanks a lot for your quick response, I'm not sure if I'm doing this correctly but if I use anything with afp.XXXX I get an error saying afp.XXXX.com not found (NXDOMAIN) but also I don't have any server named "afp".
If I use it without "afp." I get:
    Using domain server:
    Name: 192.168.3.254
    Address: 192.168.3.254#53
    Aliases:
    (server).com has address 192.168.3.254
or if I use 192.168.3.1 (main router) I get the public IP since everything is forwarded to that server (is the onlyone on the network).
For checking DNS I used changeip -checkhostname and I get:
    Primary address     = 192.168.3.254
    Current HostName    = (server).com
    DNS HostName        = (server).com
The names match. There is nothing to change.
    dirserv:success = "success"
When I connect my clients to VPN I don't have any DNS issues.
I also thought it was a DNS problem but FTP, Web, and everything else works within the server, within the network and for external networks, AFP is the onlything not working.
Please let me know if you need any information, I really appreciate your help since this is anoying and I can't create folders for new users even if I use "createhomedir" command.
    Thanks!!

  • Hello my iphone 3g can not connect to home network via wifi

Hello to all, with my iphone 3g can not connect to home network via wifi. This only happens if I apply protection to the network. Unprotected my Iphone connects fine. Obviously the password to write error-free. I can not figure out what depends on this factor, however, another iphone connects fine. Help me please.

I have a similar, but slightly different problem. My iphone 4 recgonizes my home wifi and shows it under Settings, but will not access it, no signal shown, just 3G.  It will access other wifi signals.  My wife's iphone works fine, as does an ipad and macbook.  This is new for my iphone, about 2-3 days.
Help!  I reset network settings and rebooted the router (Apple), no avail

  • Airport Extreme green light but can't see the wifi network

Hello, coming back from the holidays I can't see my Wifi network anymore (From PS3, Phone, Computers ..etc.). My airport has a greenlight and the internet is working fine if my computer is connected with an Ethernet cable. I re-did the configuration many times and I did a hard reset of both my modem and the airport. It is not setted to a hidden connection. All the settings are basic like before. The only difference is that I did the update to 7.6.4.

I think you were right, my airport was broken and I noticed that at the end of the configuration process where there's a green checkmark it was written in the bottom that a wifi device wasn't working properly. Nothing could be done to make it work though.
I bought a new Airport Express now but I still have a major problem. I was able to configure it through wifi with my iMac without any problem and now it is connected to the internet via wifi perfectly but i STILL can't see the network with either my Android phone or my PS3 console !?
    - Brand new airport express
    - configured to "create a wifi network" with a WPA2 password using the simple steps of the airport utility
    - Airport Utility 5.6.1
I did reset the airport express a few times with the utility and by removing the power cord. I also did reset my iMac and I can still connect to the wifi just fine with it.

  • HT4260 I did everything the article suggests. And for my macbook pro it works perfectly. But all the other devices (iphone 5, 4, Macbook Air) can't connect to the network. Anybody any idea's?

I did everything the article suggests. And for my macbook pro it works perfectly. But all the other devices (iphone 5, 4, Macbook Air) can't connect to the network. Anybody any idea's?

Try resetting your modem. Power it down. Wait a moment, then power it up again. While it resets, do not change what is connected to it.
In another, though unrelated article, Apple recommends the following:
If you have configured your Wi-Fi base stations in the past, it may be helpful to do a factory default reset of each Wi-Fi base station that will be part of the wireless extended network before you begin.
This step really ought not be considered optional for the configuration you propose. If the problem persists after resetting your modem, reset everything else too.
