MacBook Internal Speaker is CONSTANTLY ON!! _

Hey fellow Macs,
After playing a video cd w/ VLC, my internal speaker seems to be CONSTANTLY on! However, the situation is improved when I disconnect the powercable, or reviving the MacBook from sleep mode.
Any one else experiencing this? Any remedies?
Much thanks!

(P.S. I kno the noise is coming from the speaker b/c if I plug in headphones, the sound disappears)

Hi again Douggo,
I've tried to do the SMC reset a couple of times, but the problem persists T_T
First I suspected that I was doing the SMC reset wrong, but I've tried every different interpretaion of Apple's simple instructions, and I think I'm doing everything correctly.
Is there any indication like a beep or something that tells me I've actually done the SMC reset?
Or could it be possible that the SMC reset function on my Mac is broken?
Any other possible solutions to the annoying static?
Much appreciated!

there is no sound on my macbook air. I have checked the volume and mute controls and the internal speaker are selected.  any one any ideas please.

Hopefully one of these steps should solve the problem.
    1. Remove the headphone.
If you see red light in the headphone port, plug the headphone
in and out of the port 5 or 6 times to flip the microswitch inside.
Sound output may be stuck in the digital mode.
    2. Reset PRAM.  http://support.apple.com/kb/PH4405
    3. Reset SMC.     http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
        Choose the method for:
"Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".
    4. Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup
        Audio Devices window
        Side Bar
        Click the Built-in Output.
Under Mute any of the boxes checked? If so, uncheck it.
    Best.

  • Why my internal speaker of Macbook Air disappear

Why my internal speaker of Macbook Air disappear ? Now no sound come out and cannot adjust volume button which looks inactive.

did you put your Air to sleep with headphones attached, or closed the monitor with phones attached?
Do not sleep your Air (close the monitor with headphones attached) with headphones attached, this is known to affect some Air under Mavericks.
      * this occurrence is being looked into.
Much testing on my own and others as well show that, in some instances, this occurs in Mavericks.
If you choose you may contact Apple for an appt and diagnostics.
However as said, refrain from having phones attached when you close the monitor to prevent this until it is resolved
    Test this and re-verify

  • 10.6.8 - No audio out (but internal speaker fine) - MBP5,5

After upgrading to 10.6.8, plugging in my earphones or headphones does squat. My internal speaker still works fine though
I've tried the AppleHDA rollback (to 10.6.7 version) to no avail  - each time either audio disables totally or I get the "Incorrectly installed extension" error
The most interesting thing is my problem seems subtlely different from the 'popular' audio problems. Most bizarrely, audio out works until I log in (works on the login screen). It dies and I receive asserts on the console after logging in though (I'm not on the machine and I can't remember the exact assert message but something about failure during GOTO in some audio handler)
I haven't tried making another user account (to see if it's account specific) but I have tried deleting all manner of user-specific audio plists as well as doing SMC reset, permissions repair etc.
Any ideas? + Anyone have the same problem? (I'm presuming this is specific to this MBP + config)

one thing i have just tested i can copy files from my mac desktop to my macbook fine mmm!

  • My internal speaker on mac book pro works through external devices (e.g headphones) and a red light appears on my audio line port what should i do?

i used macbook pro  2009 OS X 10.9.5 yosemite and  i got troubled on my internal speaker  and it only works through external devices what should i do pls help?

This is the Mac Pro desktop forum. I requested your post be moved to the MacBook Pro laptop forum.
Please move the MacBook Pro forum. Thanks
Also if you mean by external is via the headphone jack then try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so. There is a little switch in the headphone jack that disconnects the speaker when the headphone jack is inserted.

  • Thunderbolt port wont connect to SAMSUNG and audio port detection disables internal speak forever

I've had this Yosemite (10.10.2) since it's launch and never have I encountered a problem with my hdmi-to-thunderbolt port adapter until now I actually decide to use it. I find out that I cannot display my Mac on any TV screen to play a movie, watch Netflix or, play a game in fullscreen.
That not the only problem I've encountered.
I've encountered the internal speak disappearing from the audio output settings when I plugin my headphone. When I remove the jack from the audio port the internal speaker doesn't alway come back when I want it to. There needs to be a manual way to switch back or a thing to switch of the auto-detection.

    Eric,
Thanks for the advice but, my Macbook pro is all the way up to date with the latest stuff. I this is of a more software issue I ran into and found out the new OS (Operating System) has affect my Thunderbolt port. I'm wondering if there's a way to fix it?

  • Internal speaker

Not a very technical post but have had a recurring problem with the E series phones.  I had the E5, and noticed within 6 months that the internal speaker became 'crackly' , as though it had been damaged by moisture.  It was so bad that I could only use the external speaker.  I had not knowingly damaged this in any way, other than living in Ireland where the weather is constantly damp.  I have just upgraded to the E6, and have found that, within a matter of weeks, the speaker is beginning to intermittently become crackly, as well.  I would like to avoid the same issue, and wonder, if indeed this is an atmospheric moisture weakness for this phone, whether there is any type of speaker protection available, whether anyone has found the same issue, and how this can be resolved.  Otherwise, I love this phone.
    Thanks for any suggestions.

Send it in for inspection. I may be a faulty part in yor E6. Take contact with the reseller and ask for immediate replacement if possible. Within 14 days yoi may do so and ask for a replacement.

  • Sound on MacBookPro stopped on internal speaker and when using earphones

Sound on MacBookPro stopped on internal speaker and when using earphones.  I re-booted and tried again.  No luck.

There are many possible causes for this issue. Take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Some may not apply to your model. Back up all data before making any changes.
    1. Start with the steps recommended in this support article. Don't skip any of the steps. It's the starting point for further efforts to solve the problem.
    2. Run Software Update and make sure you have a fully up-to-date installation of OS X.
    3. If you've installed an application called "Memory Clean" or any other third-party software that is supposed to "clean" or "purge" memory automatically, remove it according to the developer's instructions and restart. You should do that even if the software is not causing the problem, because it's useless.
    4. Other third-party software that has been reported to interfere with sound output includes "Boom" and "Samsung Kies." If applicable, uninstall according to the developer's instructions (not by dragging something to the Trash.)
    5. If an AirPlay device is selected for sound output from iTunes (or from other applications via third-party software such as "Airfoil"), deselect it.
    6. Launch the application "Audio MIDI Setup" by entering the first few letters of its name in a Spotlight search and selecting it in the results (it should be at the top.) Select Built-in Output from the list on the left. If the Mute boxes are checked, uncheck them.
    7. If a red light is visible in the audio-out port when sound should be playing, the internal switch is stuck in the position for digital output. You may be able to free it by inserting and removing a mini-stereo jack of the proper size. Inserting any kind of tool in the port may cause damage that won't be covered by the warranty.
If there's no red light, the switch may still be stuck in the headphone position. Try to free it the same way.
    8. Disconnect all wired peripherals except keyboard and mouse, if applicable. If more than one display is connected, disconnect all extra ones. Restart and test.
    9. If you have a MacBook Air, turn off Bluetooth and restart.
    10. Start up in safe mode. Don't log in; just restart as usual when the login screen appears. When you do, make sure the words "Safe Boot" do notappear in the login screen. If they do, the system is still in safe mode and sound won't work.
    11. Reset the NVRAM.
    12. Reset the SMC.
    13. Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Preferences/Audio
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password. Restart the computer and empty the Trash. Recreate your settings in the Sound preference pane.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
    14. Reinstall OS X after backing up all data.
    15. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store.

  • MacBook Internal Speakers - Which side seems to be louder?

For me, the right side internal speaker (where arrow keys are) seems to be louder than the left side speaker (where caps lock key is). Does anyone know where exactly those internal speakers are? I put my ear on each side and I felt that the left speaker is not attached around fn key while (I think) the right speaker is attached near right arrow key. So, every time I can feel that sounds from the right side are more audible and clearer than the other side.

    Hello!
Got the same problem but also this:

    and
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1977561&tstart=0
Did anybody tried it out under Bootcamp (XP & Vista) and got the same Problem? I already got a new unit and it is all the same, so I think it is not only a damaged loudspeaker but a software issue or a serial-glitch in the unibody MacBooks.

  • No internal speaker drive

    macbook pro os 10.6.8
all in sudden when I started up it asked me to restart because it has some problem. I restarted then this time no start up sound.
speaker icon on right top is grey and I am unable to change anything.
open the preference for input and output, from both no drive listed.
However when I connect my usb speaker its drive appears in driver list and sound come out no problem.
I tried with earphone but there is no sound , it does not show any internal speaker driver in sound preference.
Can i get just internal speaker drive from mac support free of charge, just like we can always do for windows PC?
or do I need to reinstall OS? Where can I get OS ?

Tried replacing the battery,  This has yeilded no improvement (the old battery checked out fine on a digital volt metre)
What do people recomend i do next, bearing in mind that the primary objective is to retrieve a load of files off the hard drive and burn them to CD.
-Should i try removing and reinserting the CPU? and all the other components?
-Should i try getting a cheap secondhand MB/CPU to make the system work?
-Should i admit defeat and take the HD into a computer repair shop and ask them to make a cd of all the documents?
-Is it possible to add the HD to my own computer and access it as if it were a second drive?  (my girlfriend would kill me if i messed up our computer, and I hear that having SATA makes drive configuration very complicated)
    Any other suggestions?
    thanks again
My sys spec should appear below, my friend's old broken computer spec is in the first message of the thread

  • Left internal speaker volume issue (very weak)

    Hello,
The left internal speaker on my MBA is very very quiet (barely audible at maximum volume and with right channel disabled). The problem seems to have appeared recently as I was totally enjoying my MBA's sound before.
I have already tried the following:
    - Both speakers are equally balanced in System Preferences/Sound and Audio MIDI Setup.
    - The 'Play stereo audio as mono' box is unticked in System Preferences/Universal Access.
    - Latest software updates installed, the laptop restarted after that, the trouble remained.
    - Already tried resetting the SMC or PRAM and NVRAM.
    - Already tried reinstalling a fresh OS
Grateful for any useful comments, views and advice.

  • IPod 4th gen unable to play music from internal speaker but can with headphones

iPod 4th gen unable to play music from internal speaker but can with headphones
    Can anyone help

    - Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so. There is a little switch in the headphone jack that disconnects the speaker when the headphone jack is inserted.
Try the following to rule out a software problem
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a bad headphone jack.
