Macbook internet help

*can someone please help me*
i just got my macbook today tried connecting it to my router connected fine, i have a linksys n router by the way! the problem is when i try to go on the internet it takes ages or some times the sites dont even load. i am really new at using macs so all i no is that i hav the tiger OS X (10.4), can some one please assit me on this issue

i forgot to mention that i am having difficulties with the wireless internet my router is a linksys wag300n

Hey mo4lyf and welcome to the forum -
You might try this:
1. Turn off you MacBook
2. Turn off or unplug you router
3. Turn off or unplug your modem
Let them rest for a while.
Plug them back in in reverse order and see if your connection is faster.
Good luck and let us know if that worked.

If you are using Safari as a web browser :-
Open Safari, go to Safari menu > Preferences > General, and put Google as the homepage. Then, choose Google as your default search engine.
If you are using Google Chrome as the web browser :-
Open Google Chrome.
In the top right corner of the page, click the Chrome menu Chrome menu > Settings.
In the "Search" section, select Google from the drop-down menu.

Is this a POP account, or an IMAP account? Did you enable your account type in Gmail?
You can verify whether or not you did (and enable it if you didn't) by logging into Gmail on the web. Then, open the 'Forwarding and POP/IMAP' tab on your 'Settings' page, and configure IMAP. After enabling IMAP in Gmail, make sure you click 'Save Changes' so Gmail can communicate with your mail client.

Plug it in & start iTunes.
Then you can sync in iTunes, and then download the update & install.

Problems with getting internet help in Elements 2.0

I have Windows XP and Photoshop Elements 2.0. When I opened up the Elements program it gave an error http://cgi..tform=ODLLVER=2.8.3.3AOMVER=2.8.3.3 check Internet Control Panel. Not sure what it is saying to do. The program seems to be working except when I search and it brings up the topic box, you can't pull up any information when you click on the topic. Also, I tried help and Photoshop Elements Help but when you click on it, it doesn't bring up anything. For some reason, it seems I have lost the internet help but I can pull up other web sites on the internet. Does anyone have any suggestions?

There is no "internet help" in PE 2. The help files are html files stored on your computer that you access with your web browser. What do you have set for your default browser? If it is something like AOL you may need to change the default to IE.

OLD MacBook - need help! Clueless

I have an old MacBook - I believe it is a 2008. It still works great, except I believe I need to upgrade my operating system. All of the websites I keep going on are telling me that they don't support the browser I'm using (Safari 5.0?). When I try to update the browser, it says my operating system needs to be upgraded... and I cannot figure out how to do that. I tried to install Google Chrome after that and it said it was not compatible with this version of MAC OS X.
I don't need Google Chrome necessarily, just want to be able to update the operating system and browser on this MacBook. Help!
Current Info: Mac OS X version 10.5.8.
I've gone under "Software Update" on the apple menu and it says there are no updates at this time... clearly there are! Any help would be greatly appreciated. Trying to avoid a trip to the Apple store. Thank you so much!

Your MacBook (2008?) can run Snow Leopard 10.6 and 10.7 for sure. The last version in that year will run 10.8.

To find out how much space you have & what is left, open up Disk Utility/Machintosh HD/First Aid. The info will be at the bottom of the window.
Sluggish Finder - Bunch of icons on your desktop? An overcrowded desktop slows down your Mac.
Get rid of needless Finder calculations - Open a window in Finder/View/Show View Options: ensure "Calculate All Sizes" option is unchecked.
Internet related - It's likely that your broadband connection is the bottleneck. You can check your speed on http://www.speedtest.net to see how fast your connection is. If your web browser specifically performs slowly, quit and relaunch it.
If browser remains sluggish, empty its cache.
Safari/Empty Cache
Firefox/Preferences - select the Network tab of the Advanced preferences and click the "Clear Now" button in the "Offline Storage" area.
Application related - Launch "Activity Monitor" - Applications/Utilities - click the CPU heading and see what float to the top. If an application takes up a large chunk of CPU and won't let it go, it could be dragging down your Mac's performance. Quit it by clicking the Quit Process button at the top of the Activity Monitor window.
Too little ram - max out your ram.
Solution may be found if you search in the "More Like This" section over in the right column.

Streaming MacBooks Internet Connection over WiFi

I've got the problem that i won't have an internet connection in my house for quite some time now.
I own an iPhone and a MacBook Pro. I'm usually using the "personal hotspot" feature to access the internet from the MacBook.
The problem is now that both my PS3 or other devices can't connect to the internet.
My idea is to connect the MacBook via Ethernet or WiFi to an Airport Extreme Station in order to share the MacBooks internet connection all over the network and with the PS3.
Is this somehow possible or can the "tethered" internet of the MacBook not be shared through a network?

For the better connectivity please verify that you have got an 802.11n card in your computer. New generation routers (i.e. E1200) speaks an entirely different language than 802.11g cards, so while those adapters can work with the E1200 for example, they are not optimized to work with it. It is like having to translate from one language to another in real time when going from N to G... So in those cases the old router will show a stronger signal than the new one.

Macbook Internet Network Hacking (Help Please!)

Hi, Thanks for looking... I am concerned that my apartment neighbor (a computer network engineer) might be trying to hack my Macbook and snoop around with my internet usage, and possibly access my Macbook remotely. Could someone please answer a few questions to ease my concerns please? (The Macbook is connected directly to the broadband modem and there is no wireless internet involved.)

Depending on the router, it may be very easy for him to hack it, whether he has seen it or not. If you believe this may have happened, see How to manage a hacked wireless router.
As for hacking the Mac, that's not a significant concern unless he has had unmonitored physical access to the machine. If he has, the only way to be sure he hasn't installed something to monitor you is to erase the hard drive and reinstall everything from scratch.
If he is able to get on the same network as you - which you should make sure to prevent by securing your wireless router - be sure everything in System Preferences -> Sharing is turned off. If you must have a service there turned on, be sure it can only be accessed using a strong password.
