MacBook + iPhoto 09

i have a MacBook, about 4 years old and iPhoto 09.  When I upload photos and start to edit I get the pinwheel after about 20 minutes.  I am unable to turn off the program and have to restart my computer.  Any ideas as to why this happens & how to avoid it

To move an iPhoto Library to a new machine:
Link the two Macs together: there are several ways to do this: Wireless Network, Firewire Target Disk Mode, Ethernet, or even just copy the Library to an external HD and then on to the new machine...
But however you do choose to link the two machines...
Simply copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine.
Then launch iPhoto. That's it.
This moves photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else.

Just migrated using time machine from MacBook Pro to older Macbook. iPhoto 9.4.3 won't open. Tried reinstall - no change. (Mac OS X 10.7.5)

Did you migrate the app from Time Machine? Reinstall it.
    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
    2. Download it from the App Store to reinstall It's on your Purchases List there.
For older versions that have been installed from Disk you'll need these additional steps:
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 or later they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
The reference to NovaMedia is that there is the remanant of an older app in there somewhere that won't run on 10.7

What update are you referring to?  If you do a search for "Kodak" in the iPhoto community you'll find numerous posts regarding problems with Kodak cameras.
So far there's no known fix.  The best workaround is to use a card reader with the memory card of the camera.

  • Copying old macbook iphoto albums/library to macmini without wiping out current photos on macmini

Does anyone know my husband can take my Macbook iphoto library and import or copy the library (including the albums and corresponding photos) to his new macmini? He is concerned if he follows this way (see below), it will wipe out the photos already on the macmini. I guess the worst case scenairo would be for me for recreate all the albums again on the macmini but that would obviously not be ideal. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

    Simply copy the iPhoto Library
Copying does not affect the source - it duplicates it somewhere else - so this will not create any problems
And hopefully you have a backup so no matter what problems comes up (and problems will come up) you have a way to recover

  • Will photos I edit in iPad sync with MacBook iphoto?

Basically, I just bought a new iPad and I am debating whether I should buy the camera attachment and iPhoto for iPad for when traveling without my computer. Will the two libraries be identical, or will I have duplicates in my MacBook iPhoto of unedited pictures and new edited ones that I've changed on the iPad? I'm also still kind of wrapping my head around photo stream and if that means a lot of duplicates on my MacBook as well. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, I'm not the best at unrest adding syncing and find its often easier than I realize.

Are you sure you have to verions of iPhoto?
    Iphoto has two distinct parts:
    1. IPhoto.app is the actual software. It's normally to be found in the Applications folder.
    2. The iPhoto Library is where the actual photos are stored. This is usually in the Pictures Folder. It's actually called "iPhoto Library"
So what exactly do you have, and where?

  • Photo stream on my pc with windows 8 upload to my macbook (iphoto) but not to my ios devices.

Photo stream on my pc with windows 8 upload to my macbook (iPhoto) but not to my ios devices. On the other hand, and that is the funny thing, the shared picture folder on the pc is updated with new photos/pictures from my ios devices and from my macbook. Anyone has any idea of what is the problem? This drives me crazy because i can't upload a picture manually from the PC. Hopefully anybody have an answer. Thanks in advance.

Hi Naddod , I have the same problem. The same pc photostream receives new photos added using the photostream "add picture" button but ipad and iphone does not. If I take new photo from Iphone I can find it in Photostream of PC, Iphone and Ipad. Seems IOS error. Strange thing is that , if then I erase that new photo from the PC photostream, than it will be erased from photostream of PC, iPhone and iPad, erasing works, adding not.

just some notes in addition to Ralphs answer: Your iPad is very useful to browse and show off your photos, i.e. the Retina iPad. You can sync to the iPad via iTunes or using the Photo Stream or a shared Photo Stream.  But if you can browse and store all your photos on the iPad, will depend on the available storage on your iPad. Using iTunes you can sync events, albums, faces stacks, places stacks to your iPad. Not many metadata tags will transfer however.
See the iPhoto help on what iPhoto can actually do:

  • After migrating to a new MacBook Air from an older MacBook, iPhoto gets stuck on uploading cache, it just "spins" forever. I downloaded a new iPhoto app and replaced it but when opened it just does the same thing? What is going on?

After migrating to a new MacBook Air from an older MacBook, iPhoto gets stuck on "uploading cache", it just "spins" forever. I downloaded a new iPhoto app and replaced it, but when opened it just does the same thing? What is going on? Where are my photos now? How can I upload photos from my camera without iPhoto?
    Is there a better app?
    Thanks, Chris

Take the system to an Apple store to be fixed or replaced as the one you have has defective hardware.

  • Cannot import photo's to MacMini iPhoto'11 (10.6.8) while they do import on MacBook (iPhoto'08 - 10.5.8)

    Gents,
I try to import photo's to my MacMini on 10.6.8. I just upgraded iPhoto to '11. It refuses as I keep receiving the message: "The folowing file cannot be imported. The file is in an unrecognizable format. (Followed by the names of over a hundred files).
I burned through Toast a picture DVD and tried though this. Same story.
Next I tried to import the DVD to my old MacBook that still runs iPhoto '08 on OSX 10.5.8. This uploads the photo's without a problem.
I tried next to find upgrade files for iPhoto '11 in Apple.com. SOme I can install, others says (when unpacking) that I should use the upgrade apps for iPhoto in the Store. No apps found of this kind.
Anybody knows what 's going on? Do you have a solution?
    Many thanks

I had them on a memory stick and an external HD. They were once delivered to me on CD's
I have the pics imported now by loading them up into the MacBook with iPhoto'08. Next I burned this part of the library to a DVD. I imported the photo's into my MacMini with iPhoto'11 without  a problem.
Still it doesn't explain why I couldn't do that directly on the MacMini.
A few days ago I upgraded the MacBook from Leopard to SnowLeopard 10.6.8 but iPhoto is still version '08 and it uploaded the photo's without a problem. So it cannot be the OSX version causing it as both are now 10.6.8

  • Copying Macbook iPhoto '09 library to Macbook Air iPhoto '11

    Good evening,
I was hoping somebody might be able to help me with a problem I am having with my new Macbook Air.
I initially set up my laptop which automatically created a User Account\. I realise now that I should have used Migration Assistant before I set up my new laptop as this has now resulted in me having 2 User Accounts.
I used Migration Assistant to copy all of the files from my old Macbook to my new Macbook Air.
I can view all of the pictures that came across using Migration Assistant in the Temporary User Account but when I try and move them across to the User Account that I want to permenantly use, the photos become corrupt and I cannot view them all in iPhoto or Preview.
I have tried putting the pictures onto a USB stick from my old computer and putting them onto my new laptop but this too doesn't work and the pictures are corrupt on one user account but not the other.
Another interesting thing to note is that when I swap user accounts on my new Macbook Air, the pictures ARE NOT corrupt on that half, it is just when I move on to my actual user account on this laptop that they do not open.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!
    MAC OS X 10.8.4

i have a time machine back up of my old imac. i have a external drive backup (mac. ext. journald) of my 09 iphoto library,
Assuming that these backs ups are good - and lets hope they are - pick one, restore it to the Pictures Folder on the new machine and launch iPhoto.
Get iPhoto working. Then think about Aperture. You're making a simple procedure wildly complicated.

  • New macbook, iPhoto import stopping

i have a new macbook pro, just got it yesterday and there is nothing on it yet. Every time i plug my iPhone into it to import the photos, it imports everything until about halfway and then it stops. and it just stays on that one picture. I've forced closed the app and relaunched it to try again many times but it keeps doing the same thing. how do i get it to actually finish the import????

If you're legally entitled, the App Store will offer the latest update and install it for free. In Lion and Mountain Lion, you need iLife '11 as the previous versions are incompatible. The update does not affect the all important iPhoto library containing your graphic treasures. Latest iPhoto '11 version is 9.3.2 (670.63). In case of hiccups, see here (heed all warnings to the letter): http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2638

  • Macbook/iphoto and elements 10

On my Mac working in iphoto I can choose in a photo menu : edit in extern programm. The Photo opens in elements.
With the same preferences  working on macbook pro, only the program elements opens and not the picture I want to edit.
is there anyone that can help me?  Cisca

Check your iPhoto preferences is pointing to the Editor application and not an alias. It's usually located in the support files folder. See image below.

  • Merge Two Macbook iPhoto libraries Onto 1 External HD

Hi. I have backed up my iPhoto library from what I'll call MacBook "a" onto a 1tb external hard drive. I did this buy dragging the iPhoto icon over. It worked.
I also have a very small iPhoto library on Macbook "b." I would like to merge this Macbook "b" library onto the same external hard drive. When I have tried exporting the files from macbook b, however, they photos are copying to the hard drive, but not to the iPhoto library.
Is there a way to merge two distinct iPhoto libraries, from two distinct computers onto 1 external hard drive?
    Thanks.
    John.

If you have Aperture 3.3 or later and iPhoto 9.3 or later you can merge libraries with Aperture.
Otherwise the only way to merge Libraries is with the paid ($30) version of iPhoto Library Manager

  • IPhoto not supported by OS X 10.9.4 update on MacBook iPhoto.

Since I updated to OS X 10.9.4 on my MacBook Pro, I can no longer access iPhoto.  I get a message that iPhoto is not supported on my Mac.  Is anyone else having this problem?  Don't know where to begin.

The photos are located in your iPhoto Library package which, by default, is located in your Pictures folder and is independent of the application.
What system are you running?  If it's anything earlier than Yosemite you won't be able to download iPhoto as the only version available from the App Store is 9.6 which only works with Yosemite.
