MacBook is connected to wifi but unable to surf the internet
I have a 1st generation white MacBook and I have been connected to my home wireless network for a few months now without any issues.
Today for the first time I took my MacBook to my friend's place to work on a project. I connected to his home wireless network, which was not password protected (hence I did not need to tweak any settings).
However upon returning home, I tried connecting to my home network and though I could surf the net, it was excruciatingly slow, much worse than a 56KB modem. Then suddenly without warning it stopped being able to surf the internet.
I have restarted my MacBook and my router several times. It can't be a problem with my home network as the other computers in the home (1 MacBook Pro, 1 Windows laptop, 1 netbook and 1 iPod Touch) can connect to the internet without any problem.
I tried going to System Preference>Network>Create New Location etc but it still doesn't work.
Can anyone offer a solution as to why I am facing this problem only after taking it to my friend's place? Could it be a virus or a corrupted network I connected to at my friend's?
I have just started having a similar problem.
I am using a free WiFi service at a local arts centre. I have used this service many, many times over the past few years and it works perfectly well. Until today. i turned on my MacBook and, as expected, it connected to the WiFi network perfectly. However, I could not connect to the internet. I tried with Chrome and Safari, I tried via iTunes and through mail, but nothing.
I know the WiFi is working, as there are other people around me using the network perfectly well, however I can't connect.
Not sure if this impacts it, but I am currently connected via a 3G dongle.
Can anyone please provide any assistance?
Thanks

I just updated my MacBook Pro with the latest release of Lion. Now I am unable to open downloaded content. I have no trouble connecting to WiFI.
Any ideas? What is the prompt that comes up when you try to open a downloaded file? Where did you download the file from? What kind of file is it?

Connected to WiFi but can not get the internet
I'm really hoping that someone can help. I bought my Ipad yesterday but am unable to connect to the internet. I have connected to my WiFi and have full signal strenght but when I go on Safari it tells me that I'm not connected. I have tried changing some of my settings but can only get as far as the message 'Cannot open page - Safari could not open the page because the server stopped responding' I also have the same problem with my Iphone and Ipod touch, I have never tried to sort these as don't need the internet on them. I have tried updating my Itunes and Ipad, both are now fully updated. My internet is working fine on any computer that is not apple... Please help, im pulling my hair out here.
Many thanksWhat do you see if you go to Settings > WiFi and touch the ">" next to your network name?
If you touch the ">" you will get the details of your network connection. Things like the type of IP address allocation (DHCP, Static, Bootp), assigned IP Address, Subnet Mask, Router address, DNS addresses, etc.
Please report what you see there.
Also please identify the make, model and type of router you have.
Do you know what kind of security you are using on your router? None, WEP, WPA, WPA2?
When you said, "I have tried changing some of my settings", what did you do? -
I really need help, my ipod shows to connect to the WiFi but then it will not let me use the interent it says no connection but according to my screen i have WiFi connection, i am very confused an i would really appriciate it if someone could help me sort out this problem so i can start using my iPod for work again.
Even though the iPod shows as been connected, it might not have actually received a valid IP address via DHCP from your Wi-Fi access point or router. Head to Settings -> Wi-Fi and tap the > next to the network you are connected. If 169.xxx.xxx.xxx is listed for an IP Address, then your iPod did not receive a valid IP address. To correct this you can reboot your router by unplugging it from power for about 30 seconds.
It wouldn't hurt to also reset your iPod. To do this, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.

When my iphone connects to wifi, everything else in my house will not connect to the internet. They all show 3 to 4 bars on connection strength, but unable to access the internet. The second I turn off the wifi on my iphone, everything in my house runs fine. What is going on?
Had a similar problem a number of years ago with a laptop my daughter had. The probelm turned out to be the router. What kind of router do you have? Have you checked for firmware updates, or at least tried re-booting it?

MY APPLE TV SHOWS THAT iT IS CONNECTED TO MY WIFI, BUT CAN NOT ACCESS THE INTERNET
my apple tv found my wifi, but can not access the internet??
I have been on the phone with Apple, done all of the trouble shooting they have recomended. When I attempt to connect it to the internet I get a message reading "your apple tv is connected to your wi-fi but cannot connect to the internet. I have plugged the modem right into the apple tv and it still won't work. This is the second device I've used. (apple gave me a new one after the first didn't work). I just thought there might be someone out there who had the same issue and knows how to resolve it.

MacBook Air connects to WiFi but can't connect to internet for about 5 minutes
I have a MacBook Air running Yosemite and whenever I wake it from sleep or turn it on it says it's connected to wifi, but it's usually about 5 minutes before anything will load.
• Happens on multiple wifi networks
• and doesn't happen to other devices on those networks
• Been going on for ages (since Mavericks)
• Diagnostics says nothing's wrong
• Still happens on other users and in safe mode.
Does this happen to anyone else / does anybody know a way around it?Hi jamang1999,
For that specific issues where you are connected to the internet after waking your MacBook Air up from sleep and it is not connecting to the internet, then take a look at the article below to troubleshoot the issue further. There is a section called Symptom: After restarting or waking from sleep, my computer might not connect to the Internet and go through those troubleshooting steps to see if it continues afterwards. I know that the troubleshooting is for OS X lion and previous version of OS X but the troubleshooting is still relevant. If it does not work and are still experiencing issues, then you may need to contact Apple for additional support.

Macbook Pro connected to wifi, but no internet connection
Hi,
Just bought new Macbook Pro yesterday with Mountain Lion OS. When back home, trying to connect internet, unfortunately safari would always says "No internet connection". I try very hard on getting it up creating new connection on MBP but it still give the same result. So I think it should be related my router setting. The current wifi setting for my TP-Link router is WPA2-PSK, AES, channel 11 with secured password. When I changed it to NO security, supprisingly the connection is now OK and I can browse internet through Safari. The problem is I have to get it back to WPA2 security setting since my home internet is now open to my neighbourhood and of course it shouldn't be shared all around you. Anybody can tell how the router setting should work with MBP, with details on security type, AES or TKIP,CHANNEL?That doesn't mean anything. You can't telnet to google. lol
The ping you did above shows you that Internet access and DNS is working fine. If it wasn't, you wouldn't be able to get replies. This means that the problem is with your browser. Open up Safari and hit Safari/Reset Safari under it's menu. See if that works to solve your issue. If it doesn't, then it's a plugin or something else (maybe Proxy changes, etc.) which could be causing this. One option you have to test is if the reset doesn't fix it, install another browser (you'll need to download the dmg via another PC and install it on the mac from a memory stick or something) and see if a 3rd party browser works. -

TS1398 my ipad is connected to my wifi, but can't access the internet.
When I am in the same room as my wireless router, my Ipad accesses the internet correctly. When I go into a room where my Ipad and laptop couldn't reach my router, I installed an extender. Now, my laptop and my wife's Ipad can access the internet, but my Ipad can't. What should I do?
Some things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
5. Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
• Launch Settings app
• Tap on Wi-Fi
• Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
• In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Connected to wifi but unable to get on safari, any suggestions?
I am in a hotel and connected to the wifi system. When I try to get on the Internet I am td there is no connection. I was on earlier today. The signal strength is full. What can I do to trouble shoot?
Hi there.
Some hotel networks require some sort of authentication, or sometimes even payment to connect to the network. If you are connected to the wireless network, and the network requires this, you should be greeted with a page as every time that you attempt to connect to a wireless network, the iPad checks for this.
I would also try contacting the hotel's network troubleshooting department for help also, as they may have a different configuration than normal networks do.
Hope this helps. -
