Macbook is not starting up, please help

Alright, as of 3 hours ago my Macbook (white model) is not loading up past the Grey screen with the Apple logo and the spinning circle. I have tried booting into safe mode by pressing "shift" key, and it won't work. I tried doing the hardware test by pressing the "D" key and it found no problems. I tried putting in my Mac OS X install Disc and it doesn't load it... It does find it though (when I pressed the option key).
The weird thing is, that I am currently on my Windows 7 OS..using my Macbook. This side of the harddrive seems to work just fine.
I have no idea why it is not working for me, I already reset the PRAM and SMC...
Can someone please help??
Does Apple give out replacement macbooks? or Will they be able to fix this??
I have had this macbook for 1 year as of October 2nd.

Did you try booting from your OS X install disc using the C key? When you used the option key, did the installer load?
If so, choose a language, then from the Installer menu, choose *Disk Utility*. Click on *Macintosh HD* in the left-hand column, then click *Repair disk*. If any errors can't be repaired, try again. If it fails a second time, post the message here.

  • Satellite L505 will not start! Please help me!

My Tobisha Satellite is having a problem booting up. I am using the Satellite L505.
Whenever I try to turn on my computer the boot logo comes up, but then after that a black screen comes up with a symbol up at the top left. It stays on that screen forever, please help me!!!!

Try what drev9 said.    And you can also try repeat tries to get it to boot (hold the power button in ntil it shuts off, then power it back on again.  I once got my L505D to successfully boot but it took 3-4 tries like that.)    Or you can try walking off and just leaving it stwe a while to see if Windows  resolves the issue.   If it prompts you that Windows didn't start right, you can either try start normally or do a restore back to last restore point or whatever that other option is.    If you get the macine running, definitely back up or copy off all of your important data and pictures, before you shut it off again.
Probably what you're going to need to do is a complete Toshiba Restore that reinstalls all software back to factory configuration, and that will erase everything on the hard disk.   It's remarkably easi to do, provided you have a fast and reliable Internet connection to get all the updates installed.
I have an L505D-s6947 and it was purchased in July 2009.     It recently started having problems with starting up Windows, could not complete burning a DVD, lost some files, corrupted my original Admin account, and occasionally  the hard disk was "not available" when file writes were supposed to happen.    Doing a full Restore cleans out all the junk, it fixed my problems, and the machine runs reliable and much faster now, plus has no difficulty burning DVDS.   These computers probably should get wiped and reinstalled once a year, to keep the performance up and Windows running smoothly.

  • Intel imac (white) will not start up, please help.

I have a 20" intel imac (white not silver) running 10.6.4.
I can not get it to boot up on its own, the farthest it gets is to the Silver Apple with spinning gear.
    I have tried:
    1. safe restart - the result is - I get a circle with slash and the a folder with ? and then the silver apple with gear spinning.
    2. booting from disk warrior and running it - the result I get is -"The new directory cannot replace the original directory because of a disk malfunction."
    3. reinstalling the OS from the start up disk, - the result I get is - "The contents of this disk can't be changed."
    4. starting from the OS 10.6 disk and running Disk utilities - the result I get is - "Invalid node structure, The volume Macintosh HD could not be verified completely. Error: This disk needs to be repaired. Click Repair Disk." When I hit repair button I get this result, "Error: Disk Utility can't repair this disk. Back up as many of your files as possible, reformat the disk, and restore your backed-up files.
All of these methods have failed me. Can anyone please help me? I really need to be able to at least recover some files from the imac. That is my main concern at this point.
    Thanks in advance.

The problem is I can not get my HD to boot up, I can start up with the install disk but disk utilities can not repair the disk. I can not dragNdrop, it wont let me select files. I can not reinstall the OS because it says their is a problem with my drive. It sounds like I'm screwed but my business related info is to important to just give up.
I was able to make a disk image of a folder that had I few files I need and was able to copy that disk image to my external drive. So I may have to do that (tideous but I am willing to do that to recover the data).
Any other thoughts before I take it somewhere?

  • Imac G5 tiger will not start up, PLEASE HELP

i have an imac G5 powerPC running tiger. when i turn it on it does the normal noise, then goes through the normal stuff, but when the load up or start up bar comes on, it will load slowly inch by inch when normally it would load almost instantly. it will then get to the end and just stay there...
what is wrong with this? how can i fix it? please help, thanks!

    HI,
*"thank you for your reply. however this did not work."*
Do you mean you couldn't run Disk Utility from your install disk?
*"if i re-install tiger will my documents and music and stuff be lost? will that solve my problem?"*
No one can guarantee it will solve the problem but instead of an erase and install which would erase all your documents and music, try an archive and install instead. For information go here.
About the Archive & Install Feature
You should also make a back up of important files before any Mac OS X installation, whether erase or archive just in case.
*"i tried to install the latest security update and when it was downloading it, it was almost done when a message came up and said that it could not be installed at this time"*
Check your available disk space also. Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon on your Desktop, then click: Get Info. In the Get Info window, click the discovery triangle so it's facing down. You will see; Capacity and Available Make sure you have 10% available disk space, 15% is better. Not enough available drive space can cause issues like you are experiencing.

  • HELP! Macbook will not wake!  Please help!

    +2.0ghz 13.3 Macbook Aluminum from OCT 2008 (MB466LL)+
    +OS: Leopard 10.5.8+
Issue: Computer will boot, but will immediately go into some type of soft sleep mode. If I press the power button to wake it from sleep, it will attempt to wake by flickering the screen once but then goes back to dark. For about 5-10 seconds I see the desktop and a few windows open but very dark almost like the screen was completed faded to black.. and then it goes back to sleep. I've tried hitting F2 during the 5-10 seconds but it does not help or work.
Sometimes I'll succeed with getting it 100% back from sleep for about 1-2 minutes which it looks and works normal, but it then goes back to soft sleep.
I'm traveling in Brazil for a whole month, and it started happening 2 days ago. It simply went to sleep by itself after I finished watching a movie on VLC.
*-Same thing happens when booting to safemode.*
*-Same thing happens when booting from CD.. It gets to first page where I choose my language and immediately goes to sleep.*
-only time it does NOT happen is if I boot to single-user mode.
    *_+What I've done so far:+_*
    = Reset the PRAM/NVRAM
= Reset the System Management Controller (SMC)
    = Unplugged battery
    = Tried re-seating the RAM
    = Repaired permissions
= Used Disk Utility to scan/repair HD. - Found no issues
= Disabled safe sleep in terminal using: "sudo pmset -a hibernatemode 0" and also by by going to energy saver and setting it to NEVER SLEEP.
I see that a lot of people have had this problem with Macbooks going to sleep and not waking. But not a lot of solutions.. I'm going crazy. There's an apple store near where I am right now (Sao Paulo, Brazil) but even though I somewhat speak the language I'm hesitant to take it there still. Can someone PLEASSSSSSEEEEEEEE give me a hand?

Well to anyone else that comes across this issue. After 3 days of nonstop troubleshooting I've finally figured it out and got my baby working again.
Apparently, the problem is with the Hall sensor, that reports whether your "lid" is closed or not. Unfortunately, It is - seemingly - embedded into the Top case keyboard-touchpad assembly. In fact, the majority of the problems arise from the flex cable attached to the keyboard.
So you have 2 actions to choose from. 1) Replace the "Top Case Keyboard Assembly" which you can find for $50-$100 on ebay. Or 2) Open your bottom case, and reset the keyboard ribbon cable out of its socket (which goes into the Flat cable ZIF socket). This has worked for me almost instantly. Regardless if the cable was somewhat loose before or not, I unplugged it, and reset it and It's been working ever since. If for some reason the issue returns, well I just have to hop on ebay and buy a new Topcase/Keyboard.
    Good luck.
Check out step 12 on this link which shows where the Keyboard ribbon cable connects to

  • My powerbook will not start! please help! could be due to thermal paste?

I was recently reinstalling the keyboard within my 17' Al Powerbook. Afterwards, the computer booted fine and worked for maybe less than an hour, and then, on a reboot, shut down abruptly before OS X was finished loading. I restarted and was able to log in for several minutes. Now, upon opening the system, I noticed while replacing the RAM door I missed the slot it should fit into and it was put into place below this (which apparently is right over the CPU)...and when I pulled this part out there was some thermal paste along the edge. Looking into this area with a flashlight, the thermal paste seems sort of messy and some is in front of the chip rather than directly on it.
How likely is it that lack/messiness of paste is what is causing this? The battery fully charges within the system and the AC light is on. When I attempt to boot the machine, you can hear the HD, fans, and Superdrive spin for a second but you never see anything on screen.
Another thing that maybe the problem - when reinstalling the keyboard i forgot to replace the adhesive seperating the keyboard mount area and screws from the logic board - the first time the system shut down, I brushed my hand across the newly installed keyboard and the system shut right down. I'm not sure if this caused the overheating CPU to shut down, or if this caused the keyboard to contact with the logic board and I shorted it out and need a new one. I've since replaced this adhesive insulation plastic and the system still won't boot.
Any help would be appreciated. Please leave suggestions. I don't want to lose my mac

  • IBM ThinkPad T40 - Will not start up - Please HELP!

    Hi!
So, I have an IBM ThinkPad T40, and  for some reason it will not turn on, The Power Indicator is lit up, as is the battery indicator acknowledging that my computer is plugged in. It worked earlier today when I was at the public library (around 5pm-8pm) but now at 12am when I am attempting to turn it on, it looks as if it's turning on, but nothing happens. I can feel the hum of the mother board, as if it is booting up. Yet, the screen remains blank.
Does anyone know what I can do? I'm unemployed at the moment and use the computer to do art commissions for people, so it and Unemployment benefits are my only source of income. I can't really afford technical support. The computer was a gift from my mother, and  I'd really like it to continue working!
If you have a resolution please either reply, or contact me at [e-mail removed]

The first thing I'd do is connect an external monitor to see if that works. (Remember to use Fn-F7 to toggle monitor modes.) If an external monitor works then you've got an LCD-related problem, probably a defective inverter card or CCFL backlight.

Normally, you just connect the monitor to the MacBook using a VGA adaptor that you can buy from an Apple Store.  Now try System Preferences > Displays > Detect Displays.  You should now be able to select a display mode for the monitor.  If it still doesn't work, then I'd check that everything is properly connected.  I've had problems with colours disappearing due to a faulty connection in the VGA adaptor.
