Macbook is running slow...
My Macbook is running extremely slowly lately, not sure why. It's taking some time to open webpages and programs. At first I thought it was the net or sites, but it seems to happen with all programs.
Is there a way to "speed up" or "clean up" the HD like defragging on WIN XP? Any other suggestions?
I had the same problem. I tried to solve it by restarting several consecutive times and checking each application running but nothing. But today I ran activity monitor and found a process that was eating all my memory, its the SyncServer process (204), it was taking 3.00 Gb to operate and slowed down the whole system. I just killed it and everything went back to normal, but each time I restart the system it appears again. I don't know what program it belongs to.

What is DiskWarrior?
DiskWarrior is the safest, most technologically advanced, most powerful utility to eliminate directory damage available for any computer.
There are other utilities that do similar things.
Looking for login items is probably a better bet. You do this by opening System Preferences and then looking into Accounts. From there you should see a tab for Login Items. There will be some things you want to keep. iTunes helper and some other helper files are actually nice to have around, but you may have things that look like total sludge. Get rid of those. If you aren't sure, try to google the name of the program and you will likely get some more info about it before destroying it. -

Mar 31, 2015, 08:06:47 PM Self test - passedFirst step would be to remove CleanMyMac as per developers instructions. Then remove Genieo Adware. Retest for better performance after removal.
Please review the options below to determine which method is best to remove the Adware installed on your computer.
The Easy, safe, effective method:

why is my MacBook Air running slow and I bought the 11 inch with all memory and turbo boost
Please answer as many of the following questions as you can. You may already have answered some of them. In that case, there's no need to repeat the answers.
Have you restarted your router and your broadband device (if they're separate) since you first noticed the problem? If not, do that now and see whether there's any change.
If your browser is Safari, then from the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
and confirm. Any change?
Quit and relaunch the browser. Any change?
Log out and log back in. Any change?
Enable Private Browsing in the Safari menu. Any change?
Are any other web browsers installed, and are they the same? What about other Internet applications, such as iTunes and the App Store?
If other browsers and Internet applications are also affected, follow these instructions and test. Any change?
If only Safari is affected, launch the Activity Monitor application and enter "web" (without the quotes) in the search box. If a process named "Safari Web Content" is shown in red or is using more than about 5% of a CPU, select it and force it to quit by clicking the X or Quit Process button in the toolbar of the window. There may be more than one such process. Any improvement?
Again, if only Safari is involved, open the iCloud preference pane and uncheck the box marked Safari, if it's checked. Any change?
Are there any other devices on the same network that can browse the Web, and are they affected?
If you can test Safari on another network, is it the same there?
If you connect to your router with Wi-Fi and you can also connect with Ethernet, do that and turn off Wi-Fi. Any difference? -
My macbook air running slow even on recovery mode
My macbook air running slow even on recovery mode when I press Alt + Power it takes me to Mac os Utilities the mouse barely moves, I erased every thing on the hard drive so I can install a fresh copy of mac os but I couldn't because every time I try to boot up from the USB that got the mac os it takes for ever to load the OS for installtion, and some times every thing freeze when I'm on the Mac os Utilities mode. Any ideas of what's going on ?
Contact AppleCare or make an appt with your local Apple Store Genius. I don't think this is a problem we can help with.

My Macbook is running slow...HELP!
My Macbook is running slower than usual and I cannot connect to some websites. If I cannot connect it will either say cannot connect or will tell me "Request Timeout. The server timed out while waiting for the browser's request." It gave me this error when I was trying to come to this website. Had to use another computer. Also, in the last month or so I have been noticing that it has been running really hot! Not sure if they are at all connected.
One more thing is it has been locking up frequently. Before a few weeks ago I could count on one hand how many times my Macbook has locked up in two years and now it is a daily occurrence! Please help me!! Maybe I need to run some sort of clean up?
Thanks! If you are using a lot of graphics especially 3d stuff that will really slow down your computer and will also get it reallt hot.
Are there any other applications that you are using?
Check the cpu usage and quit apps that are using a massive amount of cpu
1. Open the applications folder > Utilities > Activity monitor
2. Look for programs that are using a massive amount of cpu (it helps to sort them by how much cpu they use)
3. Quit or force quit applications that are using massive amounts (youtube videos and stuff like that use a lot of cpu)
You can't quit the kernel_task ones and those but you can close any of the applications.
For the connection timeout, make sure that you have a good internet connection. -

I posted a question last week about my Macbook Pro running slow, pinwheel on Safari etc, I was asked to run etrecheck which I have but not sure if it is highlighting the issue or not, so I have included the results below.
If anyone could take a look and let me know if something jumps out at you.

ThanksAre you running both VirtualBox and Parallels? The sad thing is that you've only 2GB of RAM - and your machine can be upgraded to 8GB which would, in your case, have a tremendous impact on the speed of your machine (I'm not certain why EtreCheck is saying that the 2GB of RAM is not upgradable).
2GB just isn't enough to run modern versions of OS X - not even the Lion OS that you're running now. If you want more performance from your machine, upgrade your RAM. You can go to the Crucial website or the OWC website and find the RAM that's right for your machine.
Good luck,
Clinton

My macbook pro has been running slow for several months. I thought maybe it was because my 12yr old created a second user account, but I think I deleted it and I'm still having issues.
I downloaded a report from Etrequick and here is what it said:

When you have the problem, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.
These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Scroll back to the time you noted above.
Select the messages entered from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat, whichever comes first.
Copy the messages to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of it useless for solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting. -
Why is my Macbook Pro running slow after I downloaded the new Lion software? I have a 2.26 GHz intel core 2 duo? whats Wrong?
Spotlight may be indexing your drive(s). Click the Spotlight icon at the right of your menubar; if it shows things being indexed, that's at least some of the reason.

My MacBook is running slow and freezes
My MacBook is running slow and freezes.
If this started happening without your having made any changes and without a warning of low disk space, then it's likely that the startup drive, or some other hardware component, is failing. Back up all data immediately, then make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance. -
my macbook is running slow and i wanted to know which SSD is compatible for a 2009 model macbook pro??
GitongaKuria,
several people here use Crucial, OWC and Samsung SSDs. I have a Samsung 840 PRO SATA III SSD in my Mid 2010 MacBook Pro, and your 2009 model and my 2010 model both have SATA II interfaces — these brands of SATA III SSDs (at minimum) work well in MacBook Pros with SATA II interfaces. In the case of the Samsung 840 EVO SSD, make sure that you visit the Samsung SSD firmware page to download and install its latest firmware. -
Hi, all,
My macbook is running slower than ever. I have done all the updates, emptied my downloads, and installed MS Office 11. I am not sure if I can do anything else?!arupp,
I suggest trying to replace the RAM and the memory storage. This is hard and could potentially ruin your MacBook if you do this the wrong way. Another easier way is to erase thing that you don't need. -
MacBook Pro running slow suddenly!

Mar 3, 2015, 08:35:48 PM Self test - passedI've suddenly found myself in the same boat as others where I once had a smooth running Macbook Pro that is now (within the last few days) suddenly running slow. I've been looking at posts and trying to follow some of the suggestions (like deleting CleanMyMac 2) but find my system still running slow. Here is my output from EtreCheck. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi. This is my first time posting. My Macbook Pro with Os X Mavericks has been running super slow since before I installed Mavericks so I'm pretty sure it's not the OS that has the problem. It runs slow even if only one app is open, especially if it's a browser, particulary google chrome. If mail is open...forget about it, down to a crawl. I don't know how to read Etrecheck, but was hoping someone who does can help me out. Would be super grateful. :-)
P.S. - Also, it sounds like something is loose inside my mac. How should I proceed?
Thanks in advance.
