  • I restarted my macbook and now is stuck in the start up screen, what can I do?

I restarted my macbook and now is stuck in the start up screen - grey screen, with apple logo and spinning wheel. It's a late 2008 model. Please help?!!

    Ciao.

  • In the boot up process my computer is stuck on the "Starting Windows" screen. What do I do?

My computer is stuck on the "Starting Windows" screen.  I can't get it to boot up.  What do I do?

try tapping f8 as it powers up and see if you can get into safe mode. When presented with this problem I usually boot the laptop from a technician's disk and run a preboot environment version of Windows, then do a chkdsk; /r on the primary hard drive. 60-70% of the time that fixes it.  You can also run the chkdsk: /r from safe mode if you can get there.

  • My Macbook Pro is stuck at the start up screen

Last night I was using Safari and it froze so I restarted it but when it started turning back on it didn't completely restart. It just stayed on the first screen.. I heard the start up chime and then it went to the screen with the apple and the little circle that spins while it's loading and it just stayed there... After about ten minutes of it staying on that screen I hit the power button until it turned off, shut the computer and left it alone for about an hour.. I plugged it into the charger and then turned it back on and I heard the chime again and it went to the same screen it had been on before... It was around 1AM and I accidentally fell asleep waiting for it to turn on so it was plugged in and on the loading screen from about 1AM until I woke up at about 10AM so it was stuck on that screen for 9 straight hours.. It's really freaking me out now. I tried to do it again and then I tried to reset it by turning it off and hitting 'SHIFT+CTRL+OPT' and holding the power button.. Nothing happened but I tried to turn it on again and it stayed on the same screen again... I have no idea what is happening and it's freaking me out now... So does anyone know how to fix this? Or even had it happen to them before?
If it helps I bought the computer in October of 2009.

Try to get into your machine and if you do, the first thing you do is
backup your files to a external drive. (not TimeMachine) via regular
    drag and drop methods.
Disconnect this drive. and all others.
Repair Permissions /Drive from the installer disk
You can then c boot off the installer disk for your OS version and
under the Utilities menu is Disk Utility > Repair Disk and
    Repair Permissions.
Any warnings related to Disk Repair that are not repaired
    is a sign of trouble.
This one about permissions you can ignore
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1448
    Reinstall OS X
Also you can reinstall just OS X itself while c booted off the
installer disk, shouldn't effect your programs or files
(but backup all files just in case)
Hold off Software updating until your third party software
has a update to work with the current OS X version.
    OnyX clean and check
You can download and run ALL the cleaning and maintenance
aspects of the free OnyX and reboot here:
    http://www.titanium.free.fr/
Also use OnyX Verify > Preferences (check to show only corrupt)
plist files, write them down and find them and move them to your
desktop and reboot, they will be rebuilt. If everything is fine then
delete the old plists and set your preferences again.
    Most drastic method
If that don't work, c boot off the installer disk again, this time
use Disk Utility to Erase >format HFS+ Journaled with Security
option > Zero All Data (will take some time) This will totally
wipe the drive of everything and is a last ditch effort.
When it's done quit, and reinstall OS X.
You'll have to go through the setup and reinstall your programs
and files from backup. Secret is use the same user name and
drive name as the previous time so your iTunes folder will work
    without a hitch.
If you restore from TimeMachine, it's possible whatever problem
you had can return, but you can try and if it doesn't work, just
    repeat above without TimeMachine.
    Clone your boot drive
Later look at free/donationware Carbon Copy Clone your boot
drive to a external HFS+ Journaled formatted drive (in Disk Utility)
and keep in a safe place, it hold option bootable, reverse clone
great if your hard drive bites it, or TimeMachine gets hosed.
    TM isn't bootable.

  • My MacBook is getting stuck on the start up screen (apple icon, progress wheel). What can I do?

I've tried the normal troubleshooting stuff (turn off and restart, remove battery and restart, SMC reboot) but it keeps getting stuck on the initial start-up screen.

Boot from your OS installer disk and use disk utility to repair the disk.

  • Mac mini gets stuck in the start-up screen! What do I do? Won't boot up.

Well, I talked my friend into getting a Mac mini, and now it freezes up as the OSX boots up. There appears to be a disc of some sort in the drive, so I can't even put the start-up disc in. What can I do?

Hold the mouse button down as the machine boots, that should kick the disk out of the CDROm. The next step is to just try to reboot again if the system does not boot after kicking out the CD. If you put the OS disc in and hold down the "c " key that should allow you to boot from the OS disc, then search for the utilities folder and repair the disk.

  • My install DVD is stuck in the drive, I've tried everything, the computer doesn't recognize it. Help??

My mac was being slow.. i tried a lot of stuff but finally decided to just clear the disk and reinstall snowleapord. I had done this before and solved the problem slowness issue. I stuck the DVD in the drive before restarting but when I tried to boot from it the disk just spun but didn't boot. the mac booted from my harddrive just like normal.. I've tried everything to get it out. Holding down the mouse, drutil eject tray in terminal, disk utility, booting and holding eject.. Nothing has worked. the disc spins on waking up or starting up but it is never recognized, its never on the desktop doesn't show up in disk utility.. I don't know what to do at this point and i think its starting to effect my mac. Spinning wheel on almost every application and obviously battery problems from the disc being spun every time i open it in class. Its finals week and i need my mac for notes/papers/tests etc.. so i cant take it to the nearest apple store for a couple weeks.. please help. thanks!

Try pressing the eject button in the top right corner of your keyboard (it the one next to volume increase).
I had this problem with a DVD + R and after trying everything I realized there is an eject button.

  • My iPhone 5 seems to be stuck on the start up screen

I've just bought the iPhone 6, previous to this I used my iPhone 5. I happenned to notice a few days ago that Apple now buy back old models, so when I had set up my iPhone 6, I reset my iPhone 5. In the preliminary stages of this reset everything seemed to go like I thought it would, however it then went to this screen
and it has been like this for a few days now. I have constatntly restarted the phone but it makes no difference as when I turn it back on it'll come back to this screen and stay on it. I am unable to turn it off, but now and again the screen will go black, as I think it's trying to automatically reboot itself but it hasn't worked. Is there any advice anyone could give me as to how I could possibly turn my phone back on?
    Yours Hopefully

You could try to put the iPhone in DFU Mode by holding the Home button while plugging in the lightning cable.  What would normally then happen is that your screen would give you a graphic that indicates you need to connect it to iTunes.

  • My Final Cut Pro X won't load past the start-up screen....Why??

I have been using FCPX for about 3 months now and I have had no problems. Out of NOWHERE today when I tried to open up FCPX it loads everything except for one project and it gets stuck. The start-up screen simply says "reading project 1". I have no idea what to do. I use FCPX everyday for editing videos and now I have nothing. I need someone's help.

Not too many fans of FCPX here. Wrong forum. You'll have better luck here. https://discussions.apple.com/community/professional_applications/final_cut_pro_ x

  • My Macbook won't get past the start up screen

    Hey everyone
I have a Macbook that's about 3 years old. I did an software update yesterday and since doing it the computer won't get past the start up screen. There's just the Apple logo and the rolling ball thing. It's been stuck there for around 30mins and nothing changes. I'm not really sure what has happened but I was wondering if there is any way I can fix it.
    Thanks for your time.

    Hey Lyssa
I don't have a back up but I'm not to worried about that as it's my traveling computer and I only use it for the web and some word processing.
I don't have the disks with me right now as I'm away from home. I'm not sure what I had updated, I think there was a lot because I hadn't don't it in a long time.
If I can start it in safe mode what should I do?
    Thanks.

  • My White Macbook is stuck at the loading screen, and disk utility, safe mode doesn't work either. What should I do?

I went on vacation a few days ago and in El Salvador, they have this mobile broadband sticks. Well, I was using one until it gave me a network error. After that, it shut down my computer entirely. The first time it happened, I didn't think much of it. I took the battery out and put it back in for it could work. It happened another two times, and after the third time, my MacBook stays stuck at the loading screen, and it will take 5-10 minutes on that screen, before it shuts down, or it wouldn't turn on at all. I've tried booting into safe mode, but it appears to not boot into it. I've tried resetting the Pram, and using disk utility, but that still won't work. I don't know what else to do to make it boot into  OS X  Lion.
I'm an AP student, and the majority of my work is in that computer, and it is very important! What can I do? Not only that, but I enter school in a few weeks and I need the AP work by the time I enter.
What can I do? Can someone help?
    Thanks

    Reinstalling Lion Without the Installer
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alterhatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You can also re-download the Lion installer by opening the App Store application. Hold down the OPTION key and click on the Purchases icon in the toolbar. You should now see an active Install button to the right of your Lion purchase entry. There are situations in which this will not work. For example, if you are already booted into the Lion you originally purchased with your Apple ID or if an instance of the Lion installer is located anywhere on your computer.

  • My MacBook is stuck at the white screen with the apple logo

My MacBook was frozen so I decided to restart it but when I did it got stuck at the apple logo screen. I've tried entering safe mode but it just does the same thing I really needed my computer for a lot of things including some work so I really need help.

I was looking at this and it helped! http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2570
    1) Disconnect, test peripheral devices and network cables - didn't work
    2) Perform a Safe Boot - didn't work
    3) Reset the NVRAM / PRAM - worked, yay!
