Macbook keyboard cutting out at times, 10.5.1 installed.

Hello.
Here's the problem. I have everything back to normal on my Macbook, OS X Leopard, boot camp, windows, and etc. However, being the upgrade conscious person, i upgraded my Mac to 10.5.1, and for some reason, my built-in keyboard will cut out at times. There will be times when it's on, and when it's off. And I mean its Off by it actually not functioning. Apple SHOULD UPDATE the Macbook firmware. This has already became an annoyance after a half hour of experience.

Discussions is the hospital for people who need help.
People that have something not working properly check here and find others with the same issues and assume they are part of a large majority.
Apple have sold 5 million copies of Leopard already plus Leopard on over 2 Million new computers.
With that large an installed base there are bound to be some problems especially with all the internet downloads available that may have been made for previous operating systems but not made for leopard.
If you do an upgrade and have downloaded something incompatible with Leopard it will still be there after the upgrade and may come back to bite you.
If you have a fairly clean system you may have a minor issue if you have an old font with a problem or a file or files that had sketchy permissions. These can be annoying but no biggy.
If you do an archive and install, you bring in a clean system and need to reinstall programs that modify the system. Bring them and plugins in slowly in case there is a compatibility issue.
An erase and install makes you store your data off the volume and is not much different than and archive and install except you can opt to preserve your network settings.
You can always bring back in you user settings.
The vast majority of installers don't mess too much with their systems and usually don't experience any problems since they have never brought in anything foreign.
People rarely report things that work only when they don't.
Congrats on all fronts.

  • Audio cuts out at times for a few seconds with VOD

While watching VOD the audio will cut out at times when the program is playing.  I have reset the boxes, and router with no change.  I have read on a post that someone had pixilation issues and the Verizon techs hooked up a cat5e from the ONT directly into the router, which solved her issues.  Is this something I can do, and will it help my issues?
    Thanks, Charlie

Today I tried to find the answer to my question, again... And tot my surprise I found it!! When I played music with winamp I saw in the systemtray that the Creative volumecontrol actually did mute the sound automatically for a few seconds. The reason for this I don't know. In de surround mixer I clicked standard. Music is playing ok now., no more interupptions. Seems to me something is wrong with the Creative software.....

    Hi
    No audio on DVD disc.
    Most common origin.
    1. Imported audio from iTunes.
    • In iTunes copy out as an audio-CD .aiff
    • Use this in Your movie project
    2. Low - Free Space on Start-up/Boot/Internal/Mac OS Hard disk makes it hard for iMovie to work as intended.
Down to 1.3 GB and it doesn’t work - especially audio don’t migrate over to Media Browser
    (iM’08 & 09)
    3. Material in iMovie’08 & 09 - Shared to Media Browser and here selected as Large
large.m4v. It silenced out this project in iDVD. By making a slight alteration - provocing it to ask for a new Share/Publish to Media Browser and here selecting 640x480 - and audio was back when a new iDVD project was created including this movie.
    176x144
    480x360
    640x480
    720x540    960x540
    4. Strange audio formats like .mp3, .avi etc.
    • Change them to .aiff. Use an audio editor like Audacity (free)
    5. Main audio is set to off in System Preferences - Does this by it self - Don’t know why
    Cheque Audio-Out resp. Audio-In

Had the same problem; some Googling around gave me a kludgy, but effective fix
Downgrade Perian from recent versions back to version 1.0.
That worked for me, and so far I haven't encountered any deficiencies—except it takes more advanced versions of Perian to enable QuickTime to handle subtitles in .srt format—that I have noticed.
    7. GarageBand fix.
In this set audio to 44.1 kHz (Klaus1 suggestion)
(if this don’t work try 48 kHz - me guessing)
    Before burning the DVD.
    • Do a DiskImage (File menu and down)
    • Double click on the .img file
    • Test it with Apple DVD-player
If it’s OK then make Your DVD.
Burn at x1 speed.... (or x4)
    • In iDVD 08 - or - 09
    • Burn from DiskImage with Apple’s Disk Utilities application
    • OR burn with Roxio Toast™ if You got it

  • How can I update from itunes 3.1.2 to latest version? It cuts out every time I try to update.

I currently have software version 3.1.2 every time I log on with my iphone 3gs,  I am unable to update to latest version. It takes and age  , sometimes 2 hrs and then cuts out saying ' time has run out' or something to that effect. I use windows XP. I do have quite an old computer. Someone has suggested I remove Itunes and then reload. I am rather nervous about that, in fear of losing everything!
    Any suggestions? Thanks

Hi there, thanks for your response,
Yes it is IOS I am referring to.
I am running version 10 of Itunes.
The model of Iphone i have is 3G - MC131B - 16gb (the old Iphone) which is running on 3.1.2
When I connect the iphone to itunes, under Version, it says there is a newer version of Iphone software (version 5.1). Click Update. I do this and then the message that comes up every time I try to upload and update is:
'There was a problem downloading the software for the iphone 'xxx' . The network connection timed out' this is often after a few hours or sometimes less than an hour.
Should I remove Itunes and reinstall?
I am trying to change networks and they ask that you make sure you have the latest software.
    Thanks

  • The audio on my macbook pro cuts out after a few minutes.

The audio on my macbook pro cuts out after a few minutes. It sounds like all the low end is removed. I still hear audio but it is MUCH lower and sounds filtered. I can barely hear it maxed out. Nothing attached (no external drives, no speakers, etc) and it's only a few days old.

Apple store pronto.  If need be (if less than 14 days from purchase) exchange for a new one!
    Ciao.

  • Cut out specified time content of system.log

Hi, I'd like to to know is that possible some commands can be cut out specified time content of system.log?
    For example,
    A) Today is 2014-10-02 and now I want to cut out the shutdown time after 10:30 PM on 2014-10-01. If found out the shutdown time than 10:30, system will collect and zip the user account information and data (include warning log, user operation log, etc) and then mail to specify email address.
    B) Is that possible to extend preservation system.log file time? I want the log can be save 12 months.

    Hi Keith,
    Check this file /etc/default/login..
    # DISABLETIME If present, and greater than zero, the number of seconds
    # login will wait after RETRIES failed attempts or the PAM framework returns
    # PAM_ABORT. Default is 20. Minimum is 0. No maximum is imposed.
    #DISABLETIME=20
    # RETRIES determines the number of failed logins that will be
    # allowed before login exits.
    #RETRIES=5
    # The SYSLOG_FAILED_LOGINS variable is used to determine how many failed
    # login attempts will be allowed by the system before a failed login
    # message is logged, using the syslog(3) LOG_NOTICE facility. For example,
    # if the variable is set to 0, login will log -all- failed login attempts.
    #SYSLOG_FAILED_LOGINS=5

  • MacBook Pro logs out before Time Capsule has finished backing up

I can't seem to get the initial back-up done, my MacBook Pro logs out before Time Capsule has a chance to finish backing up, approximately 95GB to complete and it only gets to 12 or 15GB. Any ideas?

    See # C 12 in Pondini's excellent support document.....Time Machine - Troubleshooting.

Disconnect all peripherals from your computer.
Boot from your install disc & run Repair Disk from the utility menu. To use the Install Mac OS X disc, insert the disc, and restart your computer while holding down the C key as it starts up.
    Select your language.
Once on the desktop, select Utility in the menu bar.
    Select Disk Utility.
Select the disk or volume in the list of disks and volumes, and then click First Aid.
    Click Repair Disk.
    Restart your computer when done.
Repair permissions after you reach the desktop-http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25751 and restart your computer.
Before your standard warranty runs out especially if you do not have Apple Care, take the computer to an Apple store or an AASP if the above does not work or any other suggestions you get do not work.
If in fact you do have Apple Care, call them and get a case#.

  • MacBook sound cuts out.

    Hi all
I seem to be rather unlucky with audio problems and new MacBooks, back in March I returned my Black MacBook for making odd noises when you increased the volume (since I've read the static pop noise is probably the sound card waking from sleep).
My MacBook Alu Unibody 13" Backlight, and a new problem:
    I was playing a game, the FlatOut 2 Demo - http://www.macgamefiles.com/detail.php?item=20153
All a sudden the audio cuts out, I quit and check the volume up and down and all you get is an annoying popping static noise, checking the alert sounds it does the same. The only way to get rid of it was to restart.
I had previously played the game the day before with no problem, the only difference is between then and now I've transfered my data onto the machine from an iMac G5. Coincidence? However; I tested it in a new user I created, same thing happens. I've tried a few other games but haven't had the same problem.
My next step will be to wipe it, fresh OS X install and test it again (I'm hesitant due to the hours it took to get my data on it the first time, I don't relish doing it twice).
As I've only had the machine since Friday, I just want to find out if it's the machine, the game, or something I've installed. Can anyone else test this on theirs? (I know after reading this you'll be hesitant).
I've made a video which demonstrates the problem:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V2Vu140BUdQ
    Thank you

    I have the answer:
I opened a ticket at http://www.vpltd.com/supportdesk/ the makers of the game:
Their response (which I'm sure they won't mind me posting):
    "Hi,
It is game issue and it happens on some Mac models. I am currently working on a fix and hopefully a patch will be released shortly. Fortunately, as you already figured out, it only happens when you have Hardware 3D audio enabled, so until a patch is released, you can play with audio working just fine as long as you disable Hardware 3D.
Sorry for inconvenience. I hope you enjoy our game anyway
    Best regards,
    Michael Trepka"
So I was on the right track with the Hardware 3D - I can relax now and now be paranoid the Mac is screwed.
Hope this helps anyone who has this problem.

  • MacBook Pro cutting out as if going to sleep mode

My MacBook Pro keeps cutting out instantly as if going to sleep,as the keyboard lights are still on. I am unable to wake it without turning the power off and on again, resulting in losing all data.

And this is happening when you are actually doing something on the keyboard or trackpad?

  • Broadband cuts out same time every day

Hi, My broadband cuts out at the same time every day.  It used to be at about 11.35pm and it's now at approx 8.10pm.  Can anyone help please? Many thanksMM Router stats: Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up TimeWANLANWLANPPPoA230662301607281900:24:02Down000000:25:34Up28411290840755310770:25:10Broadband Link Downstream UpstreamConnection SpeedLine AttenuationNoise Margin1504 kbps605 kbps72.0 dB42.0 dB6.4 dB7.0 dB

Its due to one of two reasons, you have mains supply spikes/blackouts or the power supply is faulty in the router. Because it's occurring at a regular timed intervals, I'd say it's more likely to be the former. You need to check whether something in the premises  is switching on at that time, examples would be electrical water heaters on timers, etc... And also confirm that the router mains cable is plugged firmly into the socket, as if it's loose it would make it more subseptable to such spikes/blackouts.

  • Macbook keyboard and trackpad/crashing/time date reset

A few days ago my 2011 macbook pro running Mountian Lion (fully up to date) started crashing. Nature of crash : Screen freezes, If audio was playing it would stutter for about 4 seconds, then the computer would switch off. When turned back on I would get the "your computer restarted because of a problem..." message. This happened twice per day for about 2 days but hasn't happened the 2 days or so since.
Instead, about once per day both trackpad and keyboard have stopped responding, appearing as if the computer was frozen but I had no beach ball of death, and when the power button was pressed the computer would respond with the standby/restart etc options. This problem was fixed with a restart every time it happened.
Just now, the computer rebooted after the battery was depleted, and when it came back on the date/time was lost.
This whole time, bluetooth has been "unavailable" the majority of the time, but not all the time, and becomes available at unpredictable times.
Presumably all these events are connected?
Is this a kernel problem, a ram problem perhaps? Any help is greatly appriciated.

  • DSL cuts out same time each day 4:45 pm

Is there a reason why for the last 3 nights in a row my DSL service cuts off at the exact same time? It's to the point when I anticipate when it will cut off and hurry to check email before losing the connection. I have tried re-booting the modem and not re-booting the modem. But always the service resumes by the next morning. Nothing has changed on my end. Please help.

Step one: Visit http://www.giganews.com/line_info.html and post up the Traceroute the page shows, if you wish. Be aware that your non-bogan public IP Address will show up.  It might shown up as the final hop (bottom-most line of the trace)  might contain a hop with your IP address in it. Either remove that line or show only the first two octets. What I'm looking for is a line that mentions "ERX" in it's name towards the end. If for some reason the trace does not complete (two lines full of Stars), keep the trace route intact.
For example this what I saw when I was using Verizon

Step two: Can you provide the Transceiver Statistics from your modem?
#3 If you don't know how to get that info:
    a) What is the brand and model of your modem?
    b) If you have a RJ-45 WAN port router connected to it: What is the brand and model of the RJ-45 WAN port router?
#4 If you have a RJ-45 WAN port router connected to the modem, even if you know how to get the Transceiver Statistics from the modem: What is the brand and model of the RJ-45 WAN port router?

  • Bootcamp causes macbook to cut out entirely

as per the title, when using Microsoft Office (2000/2003) under bootcamp (originally under Tiger) my macbook would occasionally just die like it ran out of power (rather than a proper shutdown) whether it was plugged into a power supply or not.
Upon Restarting any documents i was using in XP would be erased (or truncated as XP put it)
After upgrading to Leopard this no longer seemed to happen until today. It then also did the same when running VM Fusion. This has never happened when solely running OSX. This is why i think it is related to the Bootcamp partition.
    Has anyone else experienced this?

Indeed. I have the same problem:
    • Using iTunes to broadcast over my Airport Express = expected results
    • Using Apple's "Remote" app for the iPhone to control iTunes over my Airport Express = stuttering, playback and a serious lag in response of volume, FF, etc.
I just noticed this upon upgrading to the latest version of iTunes, v9.2

  • FaceTime from OSX (MacBook) frequently cuts out my voice for the listener

FaceTime calls from my MacBook (OSX 10.9.4) to an iPad / iPhone frequently drops out my microphone audio for the other party, they report that the video is still fine when this happens (suggesting it's not a network issue) and that the audio for them keeps dropping, yet I can hear and see them fine.  It's really frustrating when they keep looking at me blank and asking me to repeat myself.
I'm calling from Spain back to the UK, I have a 100mb/10mb fibre connection and the other side has 24Mb/1Mb ADSL. I previously had 10Mb ADSL and had exactly the same problem.
The problem does not occur when I call them using my iPhone strangely, suggesting a problem on the MacBook.
On the last call I ran the Quicktime recorder during the conversation, the other side of the call reported the same audio drop outs, after the call I reviewed the recordings which were perfectly clear with no drops, proving the microphone of the MacBook is fine (which Apple recently replaced as they believed that to be the problem).
So points to the FaceTime software perhaps for OSX which there are very little settings for?  Has anyone else had this issue and have a fix?
I've tried turning off the 'Use ambient noise reduction' flag in Settings > Sound > Input in case that was playing some part in it but made no difference.

Have also tried using Skype instead and didn't have a single issue.
There are some similar threads below, but they've become so huge that different people have started different issues but there are a few posts within which seem to match the behaviour reported above, obviously have not read through all 18 pages there are so far:
Sound issues using FaceTime on Mac!!
However the one below, with the post from RobJames.com seems to be the closest, also some users above have said they have the same question too, so I'm glad I'm not the only one with the problem:
    Re: Facetime audio drops
Since the last post I have reinstalled the OS on the MacBook and before installing anything else or restoring anything I tried FaceTime and experienced the same poor audio.  I don't think I can do anything more with the MacBook now as it's had it's microphone replaced and also OS reinstall.
I've had a support case open with Apple since January this year, getting nowhere fast, they want me to try calling to other users but I've tried multiple devices at the other end (3x iPhones / 3x iPads) and they've also replaced their router.  I've tried calling them while they're connected on 3G and experienced the same audio issues but it's difficult to tell if this was due to using the 3G connection as the video was also stalling there and that's not what usually happens when we're both connected normally to fibre / ADSL.
