Macbook keyboard freeze! (under tiger)

i really need help on this: my macbook's keyboard froze after i reinstalled OSX (tiger) under the following conditions: I had bootcamp installed with windows XP sp2 on a separate partition, i was running Tiger OS 10.4.11 (most recent version of tiger) at the time and reinstalled from my restore discs (10.4.1) ... After this (reformatting), my keyboard froze...entirely for a few minutes, then some keys started back functioning gradually...i noticed they functioned by rows e.g. the row of keys [Zto?] begun to work, then the row [A to '], then the numeric row [1 to +], etc the last row to function was [Q to P], then i was all happy till the "E" and "S" keys stopped working soon after...since then, its been 3-4 weeks now, and no sign of these two keys (E and S) functioning... this is really embarrassing- i use an external usb keyboard at home, but i also travel with my work, and being on flight/on the road with two non-responsive keys is not allowing me to be productive at all- as i have to be copying/pasting "e" and "s" letters all the time, and it is even more embarassing when someone needs to use my machine...I have tried reformatting twice after this, and only to end up dissapointed with those same two keys non-responsive... can anyone please help? what can i do to solve this... this is urgent, and serious.

  • Macbook Keyboard freezing

    Hi All
I get my macbook in just under 3 days it is a white 2.00Ghz Core 2 Duo, 1GB RAM, 120GB Hard drive model, it will also be running Mac OS X Leopard
I was wondering if the keyboard freezing problem occurs on all Macbook's & Macbookpro's models or is it a certain some, of are all of them doomed.
if we are then will I be able to install my copy of Mac OS X Tiger on the macbook, I'm asking this because I don't think tiger comes with the new X3100 graphics drivers for the Santa Rosa chips in the macbook.
Can someone explain also why it only seems to be happening only in Leopard and when will we see a fix for it from Apple
    Thanks R Nicholson

  • New MacBook keyboard freezing.

I just bought my macbook on Thursday (so it is the NEW macbook and has Leopard on it). Anyway, on Friday when I was writing a paper I noticed that the keyboard freezes. It will be working fine and then all of the sudden the keys won't work anymore, but my mouse still moves fine. Most of the time if I put the computer to sleep and wait a minute to use it, the problem clears up.
Has anyone else had this problem? This is my first mac, so I'm really a little lost anyway. Its probably something as stupid as me hitting the wrong key and not realizing it, but I'd appreciate some advice.

  • New Macbook - Keyboard freezes

    Hi,
I bought a new 'Santa Rosa' Macbook on 11-2-07 and have been enjoying the process of setting it up and getting familiar with Leopard.
One thing disturbs me though: Periodically as I have used it for the last two days, the keyboard will freeze, allowing no text input. I can still move the mouse, click on windows and start/stop programs, but the keyboard acts as if it's dead. The caps-lock light won't even come on.
This condition lasts for a minute or two and then normal operation resumes. It happens every few hours (three times in six hours of use yesterday, two or three times today). I haven't been able to correlate this with any particular thing I'm doing, either when it begins or ends.
    What's going on?
    Thanks for any suggestions.
    Eric

Hi & thanks for responding! It's good to see that I'm not alone in this.
I had considered taking the machine in, but won't it be hard to do? Since this problem happens unpredictably for only a few minutes every few hours it seems as though it would be difficult to demonstrate to the Genius to get an exchange.
What if it's a widespread hardware or OS/Driver issue - then taking it back wouldn't solve the problem. I'll have to re-do all the installation & setup I've done over the last few days and won't have actually eliminated the problem. It might be better to wait towards the end of the 90-day warranty period to see if there is a solution that doesn't require an exchange, then take it in if not.
I may call Apple support and see what they say.
    Eric

  • Macbook Keyboard freezing (Possibly a solution)

    Hi all
after doing some thinking, I believe I may have found a solution to the Macbook Leopard keyboard issue.
This is what I think maybe possible.
We need a Macbook and then try and copy the Mac OS X Tiger keyboard driver and overwrite the one in Mac OS X Leopard, thus replacing it with a much more stable one, and possibly making it work without the dreaded crashing

  • Mouse and keyboard freeze under Win 7 Pro Bootcamp on 10.9.1

    People,
This is an interesting (if frustrating) issue. I have previously had Windows 7 Pro running wonderfully under ML 10.8.x and I removed the partition when I had no further use for it. Last night I decided to re-install. I am using the wired Apple keyboard and a wired USB Microsoft mouse. I used Bootcamp Assistant as before to create a USB installation while downloading the latest Bootcamp software from Apple.
Windows 7 Pro installs fine, and then reboots. The first time I get to the low resolution Windows desktop everything is also OK. I then install the Bootcamp drivers, allow the installation to complete and reboot.
At this point Windows boots to desktop in appropriate iMac resolution...except the keyboard and mouse do not function. It may well be a USB port issue, as swapping another keyboard and mouse a) doesn't help or b) make the distinctive 'USB device connected' sound.
I may download an older version of the bootcamp drivers and try again.
    Anyone have any thoughts?
    Regards,
    Steve
PS: I'm using the followig hardware
    27" iMac - 3.4Ghz i7 - Late 2012
    32GB RAM
    1TB Fusion
    2GB GTX 680MX

I was able to dowload the support software and paste it over the old support software in the USB Winstall that Bootcamp created before, however the same issue is persisting after I get to the screen to set up windows. I get no response from the mouse and the keyboard. Any suggestions?
I'm using a iMac 27in (2013), a wired apple keyboard, and a Logitech wireless mouse.

  • My MacBook Air keyboard freezes, very interesting.

I have a MacBook Air (2010, Oct.) 13" which has keyboard problem.
Sometimes, keyboards attatched to my Mac - includes USB Mac keyboard - freezes and doesn't respond.
    Mices? They work well.
It's interesting because when the problem occurs, function keys and specific keys like 'control', 'option' are still alive!
So I can still move around between spaces by 'control + number', but in this case, there's another problem.
The 'Spaces indicator' sticks on the screen and never disappear.
These problems occur almost every time when I'm running Parallels Desktop 6, and rarely occurs even I don't run PD6.
And once it occur, the problem last until I reboot.
Complete re-install of MacOS X could not be the cure.
How can I solve this problem?

    BladeH,
This problem has been around for awhile now.  Here's some information on the issue and some things you can try.  I don't think anyone has really come up with a good answer.

  • New Macbook doesn't sleep and keyboard freezes

I bought my mom a Macbook on Jan 21st and I've experienced these problems several times. Last night, I tried to sleep the Macbook but it wouldn't go to sleep, I eventually had to shut it down to turn it off. I closed the lid, the white light on the front came on, and then after about 20-30 seconds, it made a noise and the apple on the back of the screen lit up and it came back to life. I tried to sleep from the menu bar and it wouldn't go to sleep either.
There wasn't anything plugged into the laptop like a mouse or anything else, so I don't know what would be causing it to do this. I have a MBP and have never had a problem like this.
Another problem I have that has been widely discussed here is that the keyboard freezes every so often and it gets to the point where it's annoying. It happened at least 3 times yesterday alone when my mom was trying to work on her thesis. I saw that there was a firmware update that supposedly fixed this, but my Macbook is new enough that it doesn't need that update.
Is this Macbook defective? I'm thinking I may have to bring it into a Mac store sometime this weekend and have it looked at if I can't get these problems solved. Any suggestions/ideas?

Here is the link to the keyboard problem. I was having the same problem with mine, and decided to find out what was going on. So I finally found on the Apple site, where they have a update to install and fix the problem.

  • Macbook keyboard and trackpad randomly freezes

    Hi!
I have an early 2008 macbook, model MB403LL/A, running 10.6.7.
From time to time, the keyboard and the trackpad will simply stop working, but if I plug in a usb keyboard and mouse, I can still move the cursor and type on the computer. The internal keyboard and trackpad only come back after a restart.
    Help please!

    'ello lads ;o)
You may want to try this solution and see if it works:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1411
Until recently my 'BlackBook' would have intermittent cursor and keyboard freezes, although I only use the internal keyboard and trackpad. After updating to Snow Leopard yesterday, these freezes were worse, as the macbook never 'came out' of the freezes again and I had to do a hard reset by holding down the powe rbutton and restart.. Not nice if you've just wrote a long email and have no option of saving :o( For the last few months the freezes got worse and I also noticed that the 'screen-dimming' feature would cause the screen brightness to flicker. So when I saw the above document from Apple, I realised that it probably is a power management issue (SMC) and resetting this as per the instructions above appears to have solved these issues completely ;o)
Hope it'll help yer too ;o)
    All the best o' luck!

  • What could cause my MacBook Pro runing under 10.6.7 to freeze completely?

    Hi,
It happen once and a while that my MacBook Pro freezes completely.
I have done the 10.6.7 update but I am not sure if the problem is related.
I know the problem could be related to many factors but I am trying to create some kind of check list before I reinstall...
This happen randomly. It could happen with one app open or several.
What would you do to solve this issue?
    Thanks for your help,
    Macly yours,
    Olivier

    Hi,
Thank you for your respond. I guess this brings me to the Apple tech service as your conclusion involve a hardware evaluation (bad memory module). I installed fan control that shows an average temperature of 47° and fan speed at 2000 RPM but doesn't tell me much as if it is good or bad...
    Macly yours,

  • Macbook pro freezes for no reason even after installing 10.8 on a brand new hard drive

Macbook pro freezes for no reason even after installing 10.8 on a brand new hard drive.
Tried to reset pram, smc, nvram.
    Tried installing new RAM.
    Tried installing new hard drive.
You should know that my internal drive is installed in a cheap external case and plugged in a USB 2.0 port because i am waiting for a new hard drive cable.all
Yep all good things happened to me...i don't know if all these problems are linked, ahh and also my trackpad is behaving very erraticaly sometimes, it's like it is possessed by a ghost. My computer is not under warranty anymore so i'd like to avoid a trip to the Apple store but i'm close to doing just that.
    Any help appreciated...

It's diagnostic software. It's supposed to help you find problems. I don't think anyone is making any software yet that fixes hardware problems.
    That said, the two comments:

.....also my trackpad is behaving very erraticaly sometimes, it's like it is possessed by a ghost....
would lead me to think it's the logic board. On older MacBook Pro's both the USB I/O ports and the keyboard/trackpad are fed out of an integrated USB controller integrated into the South Bridge I/O controller. On newer models, the USB ports come out of an integrated North/South bridge controller and the keyboard/trackpad are handled by an SMC controller, which itself interfaces with the I/O controller. All of these items are on the logic board, and they're all unrepairable.
...unless of course the "internal drive [that] is installed in a cheap external case" is itself causing the problems. Another thing to try might be a different USB port, if you haven't done so already.
I didn't know the price for Scannerz went up. I could have sworn I only paid 30-some bucks for it. Maybe it was on sale at the time. I don't remember.
    In any case, good luck.

  • 17 Macbook Pro, freezing while rendering video in FCP

Hi I have a late 2008 Model MacBook Pro 17.  My Macbook keeps freezing during rendering in Final Cut Pro 7.  Its been doing this for 3 weeks or so.  I originally thought a SSD was the way to go, but I think I may really need a new processor.  Im a little confused on what I should buy and what fits my MacBook Pro. What I want is to fix the rendering freezing and shorten the rendering time.  I'd appreciate any advice or ideas.  Is my Macbook compatible to a Intel i7 or i5?  Buying a new Macbook Pro is not an option at this point.  Thank you in advance.
Here are the specs on my laptop:
    MacBookPro4,1
2.6 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    8 GB RAM
    500gb HDD Momentus 7200 SATA 3Gb/s
    GeForce 8600M GT

    Hi instantclassic99,
I do have this article of key combinations on startup:
Startup key combinations for Intel-based Macs
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1533
I would try this with a wired Apple keyboard if possible.  Specifically, I'd try:
    Press Option during startup
Start up in Startup Manager, where you can select an OS X volume or network volume to start from.
    Cheers!

  • Keyboard freezing when forwarding a seached mail

I am on OS 10.1.0.273, device Q10. My email is linked with my enterprise mail (exchange).
Whenever I do a search, then forward one of the searched emails and start typing a message in the forwarded email, my keyboard freezes and no longer responds. Even after closing the email and trying other applications, the keyboard remains frozen and inactive. I have to restart the device to get the keyboard to work again.
