MacBook L style charger doesn't light up

My MacBook charger that i have had for a couple of years randomly stopped working one day where it would not charge and the charger light would not light up. My friends chargers work fine on mine but mine broken one doesnt work on theirs. This is the second charger that this has happened to within the past week! I have tried all forms of troubleshooting both from Apple and else where. Mac is 5 years old, if the laptop is breaking the charger then should i get a new one?
Thanks for your help

That's what I'm thinking. As a battery ages, it demands more current from the power adapter.
That really ought not to break a power adapter but it's the only reasonable explanation, given that you had two failures in only a week.
There are more important reasons for replacing a dead battery. Though it doesn't happen very often, it could swell and physically damage your MacBook. The additional current flowing through the power adapter's charging port over a long period of time isn't good either.
If you're lucky you can get more than five years of useful life from an Apple battery, but five years is about average.

  • MacBook pro not charging. Charging light is not coming up

My Macbook pro's battery was down to 2% so I shut it down and kept in for charging. But the charger's green light or the orange light indicating charging didn't come. I checked the power supply and it was fine. The charger has the slight hum indicating it is getting the power but macbook is not charging and the lights are not coming on. My Macbook is a late 2011 model of 13"

  • MacBook won't charge on AC, MagSafe light dim & green only

    Hello all,
I'm hoping that someone might be able to help. My MacBook refuses to charge its battery! It sounds like a few people have similar problems.
The AC adaptor is NOT the problem - or at least, not the fundamental problem, since I just swapped mine for the known-good one from my sister's almost identical (and week-old) MacBook, and I get the same symptoms.
The symptoms are that the MacBook allows being powered from the AC adaptor, but in the battery menu bar item it simply says "Battery not charging". The AC adaptor's light is green, but extremely dim. It should be orange, since the battery is not full.
Sometimes it does charge, and I haven't been able to figure out why it does so at these times. Even then, the AC adaptor's light doesn't come fully on, staying dim and green while it's charging the machine.
I've reset the power management unit by pressing the power button while no battery or AC adaptor is connected, followed all the steps in Troubleshooting MagSafe adapters (Ts1713) including checking the MagSafe connector for dust and broken pins, reset the pins on the connectors, swapped the trailing cord on the AC adaptor, and restarted my MacBook many times!
I'm running 10.5.4, so I should have Battery Update 1.2 installed but I've never run it.
Also, if I take the battery out completely and run the MacBook just off the AC adaptor, the green light on the AC adaptor is still very dim. The system recognises that there's no battery but I don't get the strong green light that I should get.
Do I have a hardware problem, and if so is it with the battery or the MacBook?
I don't have another battery to test with right now and I can't get to an Apple dealer.
Below is the Apple System Profiler output for the Power section.
Many thanks in advance for your help.

Does anyone have any idea on how to fix this?

  • I recently got a used macbook pro, and the backlight on the keyboard doesn't light up all the way, I was wondering how much it would cost to get it fixed..

MacBook pro keyboard doesn't light up all the way, I don't know why and I was wondering how much it could cost for repairs.

If there is Warranty or AppleCare it will be covered at Apple Store. If no coverage, Apple does not repair iPhone 4 Power/Lock Button, for $149 they will give you a perfect replacement iPhone 4 exactly like yours with a 90 day Warranty. For the time being or as a permanent solution you can use perfect Virtual Lock Button. Tap Settings App > General > Accessibility > Assistive Touch > ON > tap the new small white screen button > Device > Lock. You can even use this button to turn the iPhone OFF. To turn iPhone ON, connect to power, ie charger or USB port of computer.

  • Help: macbook didn't charge, LED light is off!!!

My model is 2008 late 2.4GHz macbook and suddenly the magsafe LED light is off and can't charge the macbook. I took it to apple store, and after check they said this laptop needed to go further detection, which will cost at least $280 since i'm just out of my one-year warranty.
I found a similar problem post below without any clear resolution, and after reading it I found lots of these models had the similar problem, so i believe it is definitely the common problem for the 2008 late aluminum macbook series and the logic board might be broken. Does anybody else here have the same problem? We should unite and ask Apple to replace these defected laptop for us for free!!!
    The former post is here:

    First try an SMC reset:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
Do you have (or can you borrow) a spare MagSafe you can try charging with (any MagSafe will do). If a different MagSafe successfully charges your MacBook, then you need to buy a new MagSafe for your machine, as yours is toast.
If a different MagSafe doesn't work, either, then the problem is likely hardware and you don't have much choice except to have Apple or another service center work on it. You can search for an authorized service provider here:
    http://www.apple.com/buy/locator/service/
Often the non-Apple Store providers will work a little cheaper. Good luck!

  • Macbook is not charging , plugged in, no light

My school provided 2.4GHz macbook is not charging but the charger is plugged in correctly, I get no light no orange no green absoloutely nothing happens. I tried using a different charger but that again would not work so I'm assuming its a problem with the macbook its self. THe thing is, is that this macbook is merely 1 year old (it's less than 7 - 8 months! ) and yet it already failed me, extremely disappointed, apple. My school wants to charge me $210 just to replace the whole components at the bottom or w/e ...they didnt even check to see if it could be a broken battery inside or something so I tried to do that but stopped since I found ot that the bottom part of it was all covered in the white plastic - i think the term is unibody. What is wrong with it? On another note, I checked the power cycle count with what little battery I had and it was around 2500 - 3000 and I barely had it for a year! Why is it like this? It was also a refurbished macbook I believe...any help would be appreciated, what can I do ? thanks!

If the MacBook is less than a year old it is still covered by Apple's warranty. Contact Apple using expresslane.apple.com if you are in a country that supports it or call the appropriate phone number on this page. Alternatively carry the MacBook in to an Apple retail store or service provider.
It sounds, however, like it may have been refurbished by someone else, and thus not falling under Apple's warranty. Check with your school to see what the coverage is.
You can also check the MacBook's warranty status with Apple here. You'll need your serial number.
    Best of luck.

  • My macbook is new and it isn't charging properly. the light isn't on what can I do?

My macbook is not charging, the power cord light is not on, and it is plugged in to a live socket. Can anyone give me some advise?

Same thing happened to mine, in the mean time that I have time to bring it to service, I used a tooth pick and ensured that the pin on the power cord (Connecting end to you Mac (T-Bar)) are free. Ensure to exert a very light pressure and let it come back to it normal position. I have done this for a few days and it seems to work. I plan to go for servie this wednesnay in PM. I'll keep you inform on the statement.
My Mac Book Air is recently new (5 months), therefore there are no reason for crashing this early.
In the mean time, keep the tooth pick close by.

  • My MacBook is completely dead and a new charger is not lighting up...do I need a new battery?

I have had my second hand MacBook for 18 months and have replaced the charger twice...so when the charger failed to light up or charge the MacBook I ordered a third charger.
But it arrived this morning and the new one does work either ;(
If I take it out and into the port the light sometimes flicks orange incredibly briefly.
My MacBook is completely dead so I can't turn it on to check anything
    Would a new battery help??

  • Powercord doesn't light green after a water spill, but does charge

A couple weeks ago water got spilt on my beloved PowerBook. The first thing I did was unplug it — the powercord from it, and the extension cord from the wall.
The PB is back running after needing only a new keyboard, but the powercord seems off to me. It does charge the battery and lights up orange, but once done it doesn't light up green, it simply goes off. Also, the computer will run off the cord.
So, is this anything to worry over, or has the green light just died or something?

If your phone wont power up then you could try the proper hard reset which is to .press and hold the Call+END+Camera keys and turn the phione on using the power button, holdung the 3 keys until you see the handshake. This should return the phone to its out of the box state and you will lose all your data unless you have a previous backup.

Try resetting the System Mangement Controller -> http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964.
If that has no effect, then your only recourse is to take your machine to your local Apple Store/AASP and have them run diagnostics on the machine.
