Macbook (Late 2007) External Display Not Working

I have an acer x243hq 1920x1080 external monitor which works with my Xbox 360 (vga cable) and my friends macbook (early 2008) but not my macbook
when plugging the external monitor into my macbook using the minidvi to dvi adapter the macbook screen goes light blue and flashes continuously until i remove the cable, the external monitor is just black (does NOT display "no signal") when the cable is removed the cpu seems to have been running at 100%.
i have tried using my friends macbook hard drive in my macbook and the problem is still there therefore the problem must be hardware related?
i have all current updates
Thanks for any replys on how i can fix this

Have you downloaded the Mac OS X (10.5.4) Combo Update? I posted my problem, very similar to yours, and in researching it I found it at: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/macosx_updates/macosx1054comboupdate .html. It might just be what you need!
My problem is that I am running 10.5.7, which I blame for my external display not acting like it did when I was on 10.5.6! One expert at Apple Support told me to erase my HDD, reinstall Tiger, upgrade to Leopard again, but only to 10.5.6! Has anyone any idea as to when 10.5.8 is due out? Is there a Beta?

Try to reset the PRAM first then go from there.

  • External Display not working with MacBook Pro 13" (early 2011)

I just bought the current MacBook Pro 13" (i7 processor). My external display (Benq 20"W, 1600x1050) always says "No Signal Detected!". I've tried it with a DVI-Adapter (Griffin Video Display Converter) and with a VGA-Adapter (LMP Mini DisplayPort-VGA-Adapter). With lower resolution I once got a picture (but with weird lines). On my old MacBook (white, 2.16 Ghz) there was never a problem with this display (also OS X 10.6.6). Who can help?

Check this post if you want more info:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2774718
The gist is that DVI is currently very iffy through Thunderbolt. Mini display -> mini display OR mini display -> HDMI should work fine. It's most likely not your adapter itself but the fact that it's DVI.
If you can, get a mini display -> HDMI adapter and try that (assuming your external has HDMI).
I should hear back tomorrow or Monday from apple engineers with more specific info about this issue and I will update then.
BTW- DVI anywhere in the chain will make things fail. Mini Display -> DVI and a DVI/HDMI cable won't work with any reliability (I've tested it on three completely different monitors).

  • MacBook Air - windows 7 / Bootcamp - External Display NOT WORKING

I run Windows 7 (Bootcamp) on a 9/2011 MacBook Air, how can I run an external display? Settings only give single display option there seems to be no way to either just display on an external display or to extend to an external display. Is this a bug?

You also may want to post in the Boot Camp forum, there may be some MBA users that can help you.

  • MBP - late 2007 - external monitor stopped working

I have a late 2007 MBP pro, 17" monitor.  I have been using a 30" dell monitor (3007WFP) as an external monitor for home use.  It has been working fine for 4 years.  Last night the monitor stopped waking up from sleep and now only gives a blank screen even after reboots.  The monitor seems ok ( it goes through the self-test routine normally), and I have tried different cables with no success.
I have tried resetting the SMC and the PRAM  on the MBP but that too did not fix it.
The monitor has an orange LED light on the power button indicating the power is connected (though it is not blue which would indicate it is receiving a signal).  It also recognizes that is has a DVI hook-up (or else it would repeat the self-test).
The MBP detects the external monitor (or at least seems to - it is listed as a display and allows me to choose a resolution, although obviously that does nothing since the monitor is completely black). I haven't yet been able to get another laptop or monitor to test the other components to make sure the monitor is ok.
Does anyone have any other suggestions?
    Thank you

Your on the right track when you said "I haven't yet been able to get another laptop or monitor to test the other components to make sure the monitor is ok.".  Also include a different cable in that scenario, if you can.
    Ciao.

  • Urgent!  External Displays not working due to "USB Devices Disabled"

I use a Matrox DualHead2Go ME for two external displays.  Suddenly, I got a message:  "USB Devices Disabled... Unplug the device using too much power to re-enable device."  Though the DualHead2Go (DH2G) works, it stops functioning seconds later.  I tried resetting PRAM and SMC.  The ports are fine as I can use them for other devices.  If I unplug the DH2G and re-plug, my external monitors work for a few seconds, then the DH2G shuts off per internal light winking out.
I don't think this is a problem w/my DH2G so much as my macbook pro early 2011.  I don't know if there is a connection, but this all seemed have happened suddenly when I fidgeted with iTunes and my iPhone 4S.  I really need my external monitors for work.  HELP!
I also run a lot of programs, but I've been doing this forever and I've never had problems w/my two externals usingDH2G for some time now.  I have 16gigs, external HD, 500gig HD.  Thank you to anyone who can help.  Figures Matrox is closed on the weekends.

It's working. I have no idea why, but I'm not complaining.
    Thanks,
    John

  • External Display not working (descriptive details in post)

    Hello
    Background:
I have been using a black Macbook (last year's model - before the aluminum ones came out) and connecting it to a VIZIO VW22L HDTV10T (television/monitor) via a mini-DVI to VGA adapter.
This setup always worked, although it was a bit finicky (I'd have to plug it in before closing the display to get in to work in clamshell mode, for example). I get the feeling from reading other forum posts that this is the normal case, though (which so far has been my only real gripe with OS X).
Anyway, back a couple months ago I wondered if this finicky-ness was partially caused by a messed-up preference file, so I decided to try and fix this. In the ensuing tweaking, I somehow caused my Display preferences to disappear.
After much effort trying to fix the problem, I eventually called Apple support, which ultimately recommended that I reinstall OS X. I didn't do that, and continued to work at the problem. I eventually was able to bring it back by going into my Time Machine backups and restoring all the Display preference files (I used old preferences from back when I got the external HD, so I knew they'd be "uncorrupted). However, now I'm having problems with my external display, namely that it is not working.
This problem started early this year, so it might have been caused by the 10.5.5 update, but since I had all these other problems going on, I'm not sure if that was the case.
    Problem:
The Macbook doesn't seem to recognize the display, or is having problems routing video to the display, or something.
If I plug the display into the Macbook while it is running normally, the Macbook LCD will flash blue (like it picked up a new display), but them come back to normal. The monitor will go out of sleep mode for a second, but then display a "No signal" message. If I attempt to "Detect Displays" the Macbook screen will either flash blue (as before) or just do nothing.
If I have the display plugged in when I start up the Macbook, everything will proceed as normal until the time the desktop would be displayed. Instead of this, I just see a blue screen (like some generic desktop before any background is applied). The menu bar, the dock, and icons do not show up. However, I can hear various audio cues telling me the computer is running fine except for htis problem (email notifier going off, etc.).
I know the problem is not faulty hardware, because when I boot my Macbook into Windows, everything works perfectly. It therefore follows that it is an OS X problem. I downloaded both Cocktail and Applejack and run various repairs on them (most notable repairing preferences), but nothing has changed.
Any suggestions about how to try fixing this? If there's any technical detail I've missed, let me know.
Thank you in advance to everyone who tries to help.
    -Richard

I have same problem. MacBook Pro (new, 2014) upgraded to Yosemite. Had been running with ViewPoint high-resolution, 27" monitor, HDMI. I tried Thunderbolt connection -- it connected, but it would not allow the external monitor to run at its native resolution (2560x1440). It would only display properly using HDMI. Just 3 days ago after I installed the latest OSx software update, and my external monitor problems started. On startup, my MacBook screen flickers non-stop. I can fix problem eventually (after several tries) by disconnecting the HDMI cable, turning OFF the external monitor power, turning external monitor back ON and then plugging in the HDMI to my MacBook Pro. This is very inconvenient.
I will try using the Thunderbolt cable. When I tried it in the past, it connected, but it wouldn't display the native resolution of my external monitor (which is 2560x1440). Can only get this resolution now with HDMI.

  • Laptop Built In Display and External Display not Working

Hi all, I have a HP Envy M6-1158ca, and recently my Built-in display stopped working. I plugged it into an external display via HDMI and it showed no input. It seems as though the laptop is not booting into Windows either, as usually whenever my laptop boots into windows, the fingerprint scanner blinks letting me know I can now sign in using it. I am extremly frustrated with this, and have an unbelieveable amount of stress because this was my only PC. Please respond as soon as possible, it would be much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

Yes.. i think thats what might have damaged it...Notebook should always be completely powered off with the battery out and ac adapter disconnected while  replacing any internal hardware..
Shouldnt be a BIOS problem....but still you can check this link..
    Restoring the BIOS
    Note:
If you have HP Support Assistant installed on the computer(The Blue Question Mark) then open it ==> Complete all pending Updates & Tuneups==> Restart and Check. It may solve your problem

  • External Displays not working

My 1.67 PB suddenly stopped recognizing any external display devices I have plugged in. I have tried both the S-Video and the DVI and have repeatedly clicked "Detect Displays"... nothing. With the DVI connection, the PB screen flashes blue for a second but then goes back to normal. I have tried to restart with and without an external device plugged in. I have also tried to put the PB to sleep, plug in the external device, and wake it up... nothing.
The only thing I've done to my PB between yesterday (the last time my S-video output worked) and today was to install the Final Cut Pro 5.0.3 and Cinema Tools 3.0.3 updates via Software Update.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    John

It's working. I have no idea why, but I'm not complaining.

  • Macbook pro screen & external display not workin

Hey. Last night I accidently dropped my macbook pro, not from very high, and I didn't think it would of damaged the computer this bad. When you turn the computer on the screen is basically white, if you let it load for a while two vertical bars appear on the right of the display. When you plug the computer in to an external display it looks simmiler to noise on a television. It's just a lot of horizontal black and white lines. Is this a problem with the display? the video card or the hard drive? I'm pretty worried as I need to get this fixed before I go back to uni. Without a computer I can pretty much not do a thing.

You can test the hard drive by connecting your laptop to another computer and using it in target disk mode: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58583
That way, if it's not the hard drive, you can at least salvage all your data.
I hope for your sake that it's the hard drive because that can be replaced fairly easily (assuming you backed up your most important data). If it's the video card, that means replacing the entire motherboard. Hopefully, you're still under warranty.

  • Two BenQ external displays not working with new 27" iMac

I have a 27" iMac (newest model) and have been using it with a BenQ BL2710 monitor.  It's connected with a mini display port to display port cable.  It's been working great; I found that I had to uncheck the 'Displays have separate spaces' box in Mission Control, so I have the menu bar on the iMac'd display only.
Now, I have a 2nd BenQ BL2710 that I'm trying to hook up the same way, using the iMac's 2nd thunderbolt port.  The display powers up and all 3 screens look perfect.  The problem is getting the arrangement correct.  I have the dock on one display, the menu bar on another, and the mouse will only work on one or two of the displays, depending on how I change the arrangement.
I want the dock and the menu bar to be on the iMac's display ply, which is in the center.  Is there a trick to getting this done, or do I need a third party dock or other piece of hardware to get it to work?

I just answered my own question; apparently with two external displays connected, the dock has to be positioned on the bottom.  I had it on the right of the main iMac display.  Moving it to the bottom, and rearranging the position of the monitors in display preferences did the trick.
If anyone knows of a way to accomplish this without moving the dock to the bottom of the screen, I'd be interested.  I'd prefer it on the right side, if possible.

  • Thinkpad T60 external display not working

Got a problem with attaching an external display to a thinkpad T60, it will not give a display at all on any external monitor with the FN F7 combination,
The LCD goes black on the laptop screen, but nothing appears on the external monitor
Its got an intel 945 graphics chip.
Looks like a hardware problem to me, has anyone ever come across this?

Have you tried upgrading the BIOS version...It solved partly a similar problem for me but I still have color problem.
Is somebody know why there is 7 monitors displayed in device manager and how to know which of the 4 plug and play monitor is associated with my external screen???
I have color problem with my View Sonic 2260 wm (on a Thinkpad T60 also). Strange problem and what is weird is that the problem go on and off...

  • External Display not working with MacBook

I just purchased a Mini-DVI to Video Adapter so that I could hook my MacBook into a TV and I found that it won't work when I'm using Windows XP, but works fine in OSX. All I want to do is connect my MacBook to my TV using Windows. S-Video is what I'm using to connect. Anyone know a fix?

The following drivers are provided by apple and solve the problem for me. After installation get into nvidia settings and allow to adjust TV settings automatically..
If you use Windows XP: http://download.info.apple.com/MacOS_X/OTHER/BCNVIDIA/WinXP32(167.44).exe
If you use Windows Vista: http://download.info.apple.com/MacOS_X/OTHER/BCNVIDIA/WinVista32(167.44).exe
    I hope this helps!

  • Late-2009 A1286 external display NOT working

I realize there's a lot of talk on this issue but i can't find an answer applicable to my situation. Pro unibody with a cracked LCD Tried to bypass fixing it by hooking up an external monitor via minidisplay port-- NO luck. Very irritating. Attempts: - VGA/SVGA - DVI - HDMI All efforts went through a digital projector, an older Dell monitor and a new HP monitor.  I sequenced all possible variables with order of power up and plug in... still no good. The best i can get is the generic space/galactic desktop and the cursor moving about. I really thought resolution was the issue. Since i have no means of changing my screen settings, i'm wondering if this is a hopeless venture. Is it possible to hook up the external monitor if the stock screen is out? I can adjust brigjtness and contrast still but the picture is obviously unusable. Any ideas/suggestions/direction would be greatly appreciated. Otherwise this comp is gonna be an expensive paperweight

I'm having the exact same problem since I did the last software update and I can tell you I am extremely p****d off!  I rely on my macbook pro being hooked up to the tv.  I am going to go into town to the Apple Store tomorrow so I will let you know how I get on.

  • HPxi 23 external display not working on MBP

I just bought a HP 23xi external monitor for my early 2011 MBP, it was working fine all day, I then disconnected it because I had to go out. I attempted to connect it later and in clamshell mode as I was doing, initially it connects and displays on the HO screen but after about 20 seconds the image goes and the signal stops. I open my MBP and it mirrors my desktop. But as soon as I close it again, after 20 seconds the same thing happens again?? It's driving me crazy, I'm contemplating returning the screen as I am not sure whether it is faulty?
Any help would be greatly appreciates. Thanks in advance.

Managed to sort the issue by resetting the SMC settings, i made the mistake of disconnecting my monitor before putting my MBP to sleep.  The key thing to remember seems to be to put your Mac to sleep prior to disconnecting the display.
