Macbook late 2010 Trackpad fault
I cannot drag any icons either on the desktop or in folders, the folder just quits to the desktop. All other trackpad functions seem to be fine, my MBA 13inch is 3 weeks old and is fantastic apart from this !
any ideas ?
Is the Finder itself quitting? If so then the Finder window will close and all the drive icons will disappear. Any open Finder windows disappear but will reappear when the Finder restarts. Is this what's happening? If so then the typical fix is removing the com.apple.finder.plist file in /Home/Library/Preferenes/. But you say that did not work?
OK, then try it this way: Reboot the computer into single-user mode. At the prompt enter:
/sbin/mount -uw /
rm -rf /Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist
restart
Upon restarting immediately open Disk Utility and repair permissions. Go to CNet Downloads or MacUpdate and download AppleJack 1.6. Read the documentation and install the software. Run the software according to the instructions. You might also try How to Reset the PRAM

I have an AirPort Express, iPhone 5, and MacBook (late 2010). How do I see the graphical overview of my network? (I can't seem to find a way to see it).
My computer is acting....well, strange. I can't put my finger on it but it doesn't seem right. Menus look skewed. Some applications look like they're trying to disguise themselves as apple (no consistant window formats). Airplay turns on and off on my devices on it's own. And some locked system preference seem to unlock themselves, or won't even grey-out after I lock them.
I have changed my password many times but the issue keeps coming back. I feel like I'm going crazy - but I know that something just isn't right...maybe someone's been hacking me? (I have no idea why...)
Anyway, maybe I could have stemmed from an improper setup of my wireless network.
Any thoughts?
Also, right now, when I just signed into apple communities....
I have an iCloud email address that is accociated with my 1 and ONLY Apple ID...
It seems to have been working but...
When I loged in here it only saw my:
OLD MacBookPro
3 Old iPods
My new MacMini with OS X Sever (Server is currently turned off)
Could my Apple ID be confusing my MacBook (which I'm currently using) as an old iPod or my old MacBookPro?
I doesn't even see my iPad (1st generation), or my iPhone 5
Also, the Mac App store is giving me the option to download Mountain Lion??? I already have version 10.8.3...
Can anyone perform an analysis on my account and computer? I have been to the Apple Store 6 seperate time and the problem was not resolved (after 6 COMPLETE hard drive wipes).
PLEASE HELP!i guess you could put the aiport utility app on your iphone, click on the aiport express there, it will show you how many devices are connected to it and the mac addresses of those devices.

Macbook late 2010 13" won't charge?! Please help!
Ok so my mom gave me her old Macbook (late 2010) 13" laptop after it stopped working for her. She claims she didn't drop it but there is a large hunk of plastic missing around the magsafe port and it will no longer charge and the DvD drive doesn't work either (only makes a very annoying sound upon boot or waking). I was looking into the usual charge cycles for this particular battery a while ago and I believe it was around 300 which I was about 50 over, so I went and bought a brand new Apple brand battery and installed it only to find that it, like the other battery, still won't charge. My Macbook recognizes it is there but just won't charge. It says that this battery only has one charge cycle which indicates that it is indeed brand new. The battery icon on my top bar used to say service battery until I replaced it, now it only says "Not Charging". Here are my battery specs and if you need any info to help me, PLEASE ASK. Someone please help me save this wonderful computer....

so you are lucky, in that the new battery had enough power already.
So that is not an indicator of much, other than the MagSafe Board
in the computer itself may have sustained damages due to ???
and would need to be checked over by an authorized tech or if you
are near an Apple Store with Genius bar, call ahead for appointment
to have a diagnostic test done and take along the MagSafe adapter
so they can see if that is part of the problem.
Of course, an optical drive issue could be part of a diagnostic check.
If you are in the US or Canada, the retail Apple Store offers a free
service of a diagnostic, even though the computer is no longer
covered by an AppleCare plan. So that is worth taking a drive...
Check the details here, and follow them to see if you can make it go:

Are the contacts on both the MagSafe adapter and MagSafe port
clean, or do they have an odd color or debris in/on them? It is
possible to clean them of debris, but don't use watery stuff. A
tool such as a wooden toothpick could be used to see if anything
on there could be rubbed off or out of the contact areas.
Good luck & happy computing! -
My MacBook(late 2010) wont come on & it's not the power adapter because it works on older MacBook! When plugged into my Mac the adapter light is VERY VERY faint though! I tried resetting the but it didn't work! please help!!
You should try resetting the SMC first and if that doesn't help you should probably take it in for service. It may be as simple as a bad battery or could also be a failed MagSafe circuit.
To resetthe SMC
Newer Mac portables with a battery you don't remove
Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC. -
Macbook Air 2010 trackpad stop working when touching case (palm rest)
My MBA 2010 A1369 had demaged keyboard and trackpad by liquid. I got used whoel top case and replace. (not myself)
Seller claimed it is ok but we face one problem. when I touch case (palm rest) trackpad stops responding. When on one side partly when with both hands then completely. Even when touching case from side. Even when case is comered by paper. So it strange behavior.
Both cases were from A1369 model but on mine was black plastic foil over part of keyboard while on other not. So I am not sure there could be some other differences that could cause this.
Would anybody has any suggestion where could be problem? Wrong contact bad insulation somewhere or faulty trackpad.
Thanks a lot.
FrantisekI reply by myself. Problem was in trackpad. I tried another one and it is ok now. Previous one probably suffer some liquid demage on sides.

MacBook Pro (2010) Trackpad 2 finger scroll gesture
I upgraded to OS Lion and I cannot get the scroll direction: natural two finger scroll to work. I have tried playing around with the trackpad in system preferences to no avail. Any ideas from anyone? I saw something about Terminal in another thread but I don't understand. It is a nice feature which used to work when I initially installed OS Lion but it appears to have flaked out on me down the line.
Thanks in advance.
BCheck in System Preferences > Universal Access > Mouse & Trackpad tab > trackpad options.. button > Check Scrolling. (with or without inertia).

Hi All,
I've run into an interesting problem lately. I have several macs in my home and two in particular (the imac and mba) that my parents use had Chinese Handwriting enabled via trackpad. However, since upgrading to Mountain Lion from Lion, those macs have an issue with enabling the Trackpad Handwriting option.
First off, I started to troubleshoot the issue with the iMac. After some fiddling around by turning the function on/off it seems to be fixed. I then went ahead and attempted to perform the same "fiddling" and steps on my macbook air (late 2010), and it just doesnt seem to work. The funny thing is, if I try enable it with the keyboard shortcut, the system seems to acknowledge the shortcut and displays an option in the menu bar to hide the trackpad as shown in the picture. But there's no Trackpad Handwriting to to be seen on the screen. I've even tried resetting the PRAM and SMC with no success. Any solutions?Try swiping down with two fingers. This solved my problem.

Macbook Air Late 2010 model, 10.6.7, 2.13 4g ram. Trackpad is not working properly and in sometimes not at all. Need suggestions to resolve this issue? I have applied all Mac updates and still having problems with the trackpad.
The machine has a 1 year warranty, book an appointment with your local Apple Store or AASP to have it looked at.
You can try doing a SMC reset however I don't think that is the solution.
SMC RESET
• Shut down the computer.
• Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
• On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-• Option keys and the power button at the same time.
• Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
• Press the power button to turn on the computer.
PRAM RESET
• Shut down the computer.
• Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
• Turn on the computer.
• Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
• Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
• Release the keys. -

-cheersYou have the MacBookPro6,2, the Edsel of Macs. It may be covered by this program:
MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2010): Intermittent black screen or loss of video
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider, to have the machine tested. The routine hardware diagnostics used by service providers may not detect the fault. There is a specific test for this issue.
Print the first page of the panic report, and the support page linked above, and bring them with you.
Note that the replacement program only applies within three years of purchase. If you wait beyond that date, Apple may refuse the service. In that case, you'll be quoted a price of about $300 (in the U.S.) for a depot repair.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.
You may be able to stop the panics by disabling automatic graphics switching in the Energy Saver preference pane, but that's not a solution.
Most likely, the logic board will be replaced. Sometimes the replacement part is also defective, so be prepared for that possibility. -
Kernal Panic in Late 2010 MacBook Air...on Shutdown
I have tried several sources of information in Apple Discussions to try to address this problem but to no avail (including the link to debug kernal panics). I have a late 2010 MacBook Air (4GB RAM 1067 DDR runing 10.8.5--the SSD drive is an OWC 240 GB Aura Pro made especially for the late 2010 MBAs) which is now experiencing kernal panics on every other shutdown (Shutdown only). I have reset the PRAM and SMC which seemed to work for awhile, but then it went back to frequent kernal panics on shutdown a day or so after resetting the PRAM/SMC. I have repaired disk permissions and also deleted old programs, but again to no avail. I am enclosing a copy of the Kernal Panic, and if anyone has any suggestions at this point, I would greatly appreciate it as I can't afford an expensive repair at this point. Also, is there anyway I can test if my memory and SSD harddrive are still ok?
Thanks very much,
Rob

Happens only when using expose. every other thing is fine. You have what one poster here describes as the 'Edsel' of MacBook Pros. According to your kernel panic, you have one of the mid-2010 models with the defective NVIDIA GPU.
Even though your experience is not the same as noted in this - http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4088?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US - article, it's the GPU. Apple should replace your logic board free of charge.
Good luck - be sure and print out the KB article when you take your machine back to the Apple Store.

Late 2010 MacBook Air 13" Dead Pixels Common?
I received a new Late 2010 MacBook Air 13" notebook less than a month ago. The unit had a dead pixel towards the center of the display. I called Apple within the 14-day return period for advise on how to handle the issue. They asked me to send the unit in for repair as the closest Apple store was quite far away. I sent the unit out for repair and received it back a few days later.
To make things short, I had to send the notebook out for repair twice for the same issue, and both times the notebook was sent back with replacement displays, each of them also having dead pixels (apparently Apple's repair guys just pop in a new panel and don't actually check to make sure that the issue's been resolved).
Luckily, after over an hour arguing with a customer support supervisor over the phone, they decided to have me send the unit back to them for a new replacement. The replacement should be arriving within a week or so. However, I find myself somewhat hesitant to even bother opening the new replacement when it arrives. I've pretty much lost all confidence in Apple to supply an acceptable display in such a high-priced premium notebook, and am not sure what recourse I will have if the new unit once again comes scared with dead pixels. I thinking about selling it unopened on Amazon or something, and purchasing from another brand like Sony or something.
Question is, has anyone else experienced this issue with their new MacBook Airs? Are dead pixels on these new notebooks becoming more and more common, or do you think I've just had a serious run of bad luck? I can honestly say that I've never had to deal with something like this before with any of my other laptop / desktop displays. Should I even bother with the new unit or just take my business elsewhere.. I really don't think Apple with replace / repair the new unit if it displays the same pixel issues, and frankly, I've grown tired of arguing with them.Hi PlotinusVeritas,
Thanks for the quick reply
I did wonder if it was the battery but the usb mouse's left click stops working once the trackpad is touched seems kinda weird... Kind of gave up troubleshooting, guess I'll have to contact an Apple store for repair

Hello everyone,
I had an absolute shocker and spilt some water on my macbook pro late 2010 addition.
However the laptop itself turns on fine, charges normally and the trackpad works just the keyboard itself unfortunately doesn't want to work.. Occasionally a few keys will work, but thats about it.
I basically want to get rid of it as I have recently purchased a new mac.
Could someone possibly lead me in the right direction as to where to sell my laptop and for how much it'll go for? Or would it be a better option to get the laptop repaired and then sell it on? Either way I'm not actually bothered as long as I get a reasonable sum for the laptop.
Thank you very much,
ParisDamaged, it is not worth much to people as the cost of repair may be too much. You can try http://www.gazelle.com/

Late 2010 MacBook Pro 15", upgraded to Lion on Sat 23rd no external display does not work
Hi all,
Wanted to ask this question here see if anyone might have a solution to my problem. I have a Late 2010 Macbook Pro 15" which I upgraded to Lion yesteray. Ever since that upgrade when I try to connect to my TV to watch a video no joy the image looks like the colours are out.
I have tried it on different resolutions and always the same. Then for some reason the MacBook Pro split the screen in two. So now I see the right of the screen on the left of the TV and the left on the righ with a big black line done the middle.
Priror to the Lion upgrade everything was fine. Only since Lion has this been a problem.
I am using a Minidisply to HDMI cable to go direct into my Phillips 42" Plasma, and I have not got a clue why this is doing this. The strange thing is it works ok on my Samsung BX2450 down the same cable no problems at all just the TV that has issues.
Any suggestions?
Cheers

Late 2010 MacBook Pro Cannot Connect to Internet
Hello, First time posting a question here.
I have a late 2010 Macbook Pro 15" i5, 2.4Ghz, currently running 10.6.8. At my apartment the provided wifi has been spotty for several months. In the past I have been able to turn off my airport using the dock at the top of my screen, wait a little while (30 seconds or so) and turn it back on. I would get wifi back and then be able to resume to use the Internet.
Recently, however, I have been having extreme issues with connectivity. I will see full bars on the airport display but my dropbox icon (what I use to test connectivity real quick) will keep indicating that I am not connected to the internet. For the past week I was able to get internet with an ethernet cable plugged into the router, ONLY if my airport was turned off.
Now I cannot even get internet through the ethernet cable.
Here are some things I have been able to eliminate.
Bad computer hardware - My computer instantly connects to the wifi at my family home, on campus and where ever I have ever been. I get reliable, un-interupted internet connectivity.
Bad Wifi signal - All other devices (including the ipad I am writing this on) connect immediately to the wifi with no problems with connectivity.
About my computer:
OS: 10.6.8
CPU: intel i5 2.4 GHz
Memory: 4Gb 1067 MHz DDR3
About my Router:
Ubee DWW365 Wireless Cable Modem
ISP: Charter
I have indeed rebooted my router, but not luck yet.Hi Cyberviper42,
