Macbook late 2011. Starts up when I charge.

Question

Hi all,
With my MacBook Pro late 2011 already shut down, whenever I plug in the charger, it starts up. The same also happens if the Macbook is in sleep mode.
The fans run and it gets hot.
If I plug it in before shutting down, it is ok.
It only started doing this a few months ago after updating OS X.
I have tried a SMC reset for Late 2011 MacBook, but this is hard to do given that plugging the cable in automatically causes the Mac to start up! I also tried to Shift Control Option to no avail. I have reset the PRAM, nothing helped there either.
If anyone can help, it would be much appreciated.
