Macbook (late 2013) 13" retina display battery problem
I recently bought a macbook from BH photo & video, around november. I used it basically everyday since, but I noticed that my battery was very short. Like for normal use (minimal browsing, youtube, etc) the battery percent goes from 100 to 83 within just 30 minutes. At 100%, the indicator says I only have 4 hours of battery left. Is this normal? If it isn't... are all macbooks covered under 1 year warranty? Because I want to bring it to the apple store to get it checked out just in case. The only thing that comes up to mind as a cause of this is that I leave it plugged in when I'm using it, but only because I use it as a desktop. Either way, I heard that leaving it plugged in won't hurt because the battery automatically stops charging once it reaches to 100%.
A new Mac is in warranty for 1 year from the date of purchase.
A new Mac comes with 90 days of free tech support from AppleCare.

Late 2013 MBP Retina display stains
Late 2013 MBP Retina display stains, getting worse.
I am always very carefully with my mac, still the display always looks smudged. Even when I just close the lid, for transport, I have like the keyboard printed on my display when I open it again. Now I discovered more and more light spots which can't be wiped of at all.
There is obviously a problem with these retina displays.
I am very disappointed I have to say. I'm out of warranty but I can't believe that I pay € 2.600,- and get a display like that!
Please Apple, do something…While booting the apple logo is purple and the the grey screen turn yellow for a second.

I got the following message after the crash, it happens a few times a day, my system is the base with 16gb ram late 2013 15" macbook pro retina. it only happens when i am connected to an external display, I do have a converter from vga to displayport. also, i run 4 different browsers in incognito mode as i do web testing and also have about 30 tabs open and excel and a few other apps open, not sure if this is what makes it happen or if it is the external display? it is under warranty, so if you see anything below that may relate to the hardware i can bring it in and get it fixed.

Can I upgrade my RAM/Flash Storage on my late 2013 13" retina display macbook pro?
I had just purchased my first macbook on Christmas and it came on January 3, 2014. I realized that I only had 128GB of flash storage and 4GB of RAM. Now I am wondering if I can upgrade to 8GB of ram and 256GB (for future purposes)? If so, how much will it cost? If not, what do you recommend to save/gain flash storage?
If you exchange it, the Apple Store will assist you in migrating your data. Just, obviously, make sure to ask before the actual exchange occurs. You can alternatively make a Time Machine backup of your current machine and use Set-up assistant on the new machine.
The cost of flash storage/GB is dropping rapidly, but you are so much better off exchanging it if you are still able too. Most importantly, the new PCIe based flash storage for your model has not yet surfaced outside Apple. So, currently, 1) it wouldn't make sense to perform this upgrade, 2) you can't, to my knowledge. My late 2013 MBP Retina battery gets only about 4 hrs. What might be wrong?
My late 2013 MBP Retina battery gets only about 4 hrs. What might be wrong?
I found a solution!
Perhaps this is just temporary, but I have my display up and working again.
Although the symptoms are different were a bit different, the solution here worked:
http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/120259/grey-screen-after-login-blue-scr een-of-death-from-cmdr
As I was able to connect to my HD via an external monitor, in the finder, I went to:
1. Macintosh HD --> System --> Library --> Extensions
2. From there I moved all of the files that started with ADM and ATI (19 in total for me) to a folder on my desktop. (You will need to enter your admin password for this)
3. Next was a restart.
4. Then my display started working again.
5. After that, I transferred the files back into my Extensions folder.
6. I then did another restart with my fingers crossed and breath held. It worked.
Also... During the last few days of trying to find a fix, I restored a Mavericks backup to my computer away from Yosemite.
I'm very sure this problem occurred when I put my MBP to sleep, disconnected the power in its sleep, while something was connected to a USB port and unplugging the USB device (for me an iPhone charger) while the MBP was closed.
I hope this helps the next person. -

Mac Book Pro 13inch Retina display charging problem..
Hello guys I have a problem with my late 2013 macbook pro retina display 13inch. My macbooks charge was completely finished, and i went to a holiday trip with it. When I got to my hotel and plugged in the charger to a 110W plug, the light on the charger turned into orange as normally but the macbook is not charging. I cannot do anything, what should i do and can i fix it myself or do i need to go to a apple store? Thank you!
In the older MBPs, there are LEDs indicators on the side of the Mac or the Battery itself, which when pressed can show you the state of the battery. These were removed in later Macs like yours.
You can take a look at this. If you do any repairs yourself or through an unauthorized service person/company, your warranty will not be honored, so please be careful. Here is a guide that can let you look at your MBP.

New Macbook Pro 15' with Retina Display Keeps Freezing Completely
Last week I got a Late 2013 Macbook Pro 15' with Retina Display (currently running OS X Mavericks 10.9.1) . However since last Thursday it keeps freezing. It usually happens 2-4 times in a day. The entire computer will freeze completly, I'll be unable to move the cursor with the trackpad and the keyboard freezes up as well. The only way to ameliorate the problem is by shutting down the computer by pressing down on the power button and then turning it back on. When my Mac starts up again it works completely normally. Is anyone else experiencing this issue? I recently read that this was happening to some 13' Mac's (until Apple fixed it) however I haven't been able to find information regarding the same problem on a 15' Mac. Thanks in advance!
Mine isn't new model of retina mbp.
Now I'm re-installing 10.9 and I want to try it for some times.
However my mac is out of warranty and if it is a hardware problem there are no solutions for me (logic board change costs $1.000 or so).
After reinstalling 10.9, if I'll not resolve, I want to try to change thermal grease for GPU and CPU... -
Late-2013 13" rMBP Poor Battery Life ( 5 Hours)
I recently purchased a Late-2013 13" Retina MacBook Pro and the battery life is nowhere near Apple's rating. I've doing light web surfing with medium brightness, no keyboard backlight, and no bluetooth, and I get less than 5 hours on a full charge.
Most reviewers seem to be getting 9-10 hours and I have no idea how that's possible.
I cycled the battery a couple of times when I first got the laptop, but otherwise haven't done anything special. I've installed all available updates, and have only found one or two other people with this same issue. Nothing seems to be using the CPU excessively, so I have no idea what could be causing such a huge battery drain.
I may try restting PRAM and the SMC controller, but otherwise I have no idea what to do. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Danielsame here, way bellow 5 hours! my old 2.3 model 2011 with normal non SSD drive used to have a bettr battery life. this is disappointing.
I think it may be Mavericks as this machine should not drain battery. all hardware used is battery efficient. don't know, i don't find anything else to plame but OS! hope apple will address that issue in future mavericks updates.
I'l report this issue. have you guys done so? -
Can Apple replace my macbook pro (mid 2012) retina's battery if I think that the battery health has gone bad/in need of and renewal???
I've had my Macbook for about 11 months now and i use it every day; its gone though about 420 cycles of charging and using the power, and i noticed the battrey preformance has decreased (as expected). The problem isn't sevear yet but it would comfort me knowing that i could replace the battery in the near future
Please contact me or answer the question if you know anything about this!Exitio\'s Apple wrote:

No only if they think under warranty/AppleCare, but your likely able to pay for a new battery if they have them, which they might not yet since it's such a new machine still.
BTW, I have a Early 2011 17" MBP, 27 months old, charges to 97% and has only 14 cycles. -
Hi all,
I'm looking at replacing my current 2010 MacBook Pro with something newer. I do quite a bit of video editing with Final Cut Pro X and some webdesign in Dreamweaver CS6 or Wordpress on Chrome. I need something that will be able to render the Final Cut videos. I'm looking at the refurb 2012 MacBook Pro 13" with retina display, an i5 and 8GB of ram, OR a 2013 13" with 4GB of ram and the Intel Iris Graphics... Which is better? I've heard really great things about the Intel Iris Graphics, but is having the 8GB of RAM more important?
Thanks for your help!I would think if you are going to run both of those programs at the same time, or even one at a time, a system with discrete graphic would be a better fit for you.
The next question is if you are doing web design do you really need a retina display. At this time only apple has them so everyother computer viewing your web designs wouldn't see the difference, if there is any to begin with. -
Macbook Pro 13" with Retina Display for Photography work
Hi All,
I'm looking at buying a Macbook Pro 13" with Retina Display with the following specs.
2.6GHz dual-core Intel Core i5
Turbo Boost up to 3.1GHz
8GB 1600MHz memory
256GB PCIe-based flash storage
Intel Iris Graphics
Built-in battery (9 hours)
I need to use this mainly to edit RAW images as I'm a photographer and will be using this whilst onsite during a photoshoot. I have been advised that due to the graphics card, when using software like Photoshop, the laptop might slow down as it won't be able to handle the large files.
The only one that has a good graphics card is the MacBook Pro 15-inch: 2.5GHz with Retina display - with the following specs.
2.5GHz quad-core Intel Core i7
Turbo Boost up to 3.7GHz
16GB 1600MHz memory
512GB PCIe-based flash storage
Intel Iris Pro Graphics
NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M with 2GB
My issue with this model is the size and most of all the price. it costs 1000 more than the 13". Have any of you had the chance to use photoshop on the 13" version and how did you find it?
ThanksGo step by step and test.
1. Reset SMC. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
Choose the method for:
"Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own"
2.Reset PRAM. http://support.apple.com/kb/PH4405
If this does not help, you have to take the computer to the Apple store to
have it checked out.

Pink color cast on macbook pro 15" with retina display
Hi,
I just got my very first apple computer a few weeks ago, but I had a annoying pink color cast of the display.
I changed my first deivce but even the 2nd had the same issue..
I noticed, that even the Apple logo shines in a pink cast, so it seems to be an issue of the display light itself.
Trying to calibrate the display with a spyder did not work, i got a very strange green color cast what seems to be clear, if the main problem is not the display itself,
but the display light.
I went to the Apple Sore in Hamburg and I found out, that all new macbook pros 15" with retina display had the same issue, but not older macbooks or some macbook pro 15" with retina display from clients.
As a photographer, I find this pink cast very annoying and I gave back my 2nd macbook pro 15" with retina display..
Is there a way, to get a macbook pro 15" with retina display without a pink cast, where the Apple logo shines in pure white instead of a pink color cast?
I don´t want a pink apple logo, nor a display with a pink cast..WOW 0_o
Go back and get another one.. They will certainly try and make your day better by offering free items, try to get Apple Care free.
In all my time as being a technician I am going to have to put you on a list I have prestigiously placed for situations like these.
List of multiple repeat post-replaced failures.
Basically.. It's a list of all the people that have had to get a computer / part replaced and received the same issue again after the replacement.
HERE IT IS:
3x Logic board replacement (Warranty). I had to replace three logic boards for this one poor sod that had the same issue over and over again. In the end Apple gave him a whole new computer.

Sounds like a GPU, Display or Display connection problem. An appointment at an Apple store genius bar is the best option. Your MBP is probably still within the warranty period.

My Macbook Pro 15" with Retina Display did not come with an "iWorks" app.
As I read the specification of my Macbook Pro 15" with Retina display, my laptop, it states that Macbook Pro 15" with Retina Display comes with Pages, Keynotes, and Numbers, app for free along with "iLife" apps. But Apparently my laptop didn't come with "iWork". Is there anyway I can I get it for free, or should I buy it in app store to have it?
Hi Astronap,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
iWork applications for Mac including Pages, Numbers, and Keynote are free on the Mac App Store for qualifying Mac computers. The specific information from the articles I have pulled out for you, but is located in the smaller print toward the bottom of the article.
Apple - Pages for Mac
Pages is free on the Mac App Store for qualifying Mac computers purchased on or after October 1, 2013. OS X Yosemite required. Downloading apps requires an Apple ID.
