Macbook locks up, shaking helps.

I have an interesting problem. On my 1 year, 8 day old Macbook, I am getting periodic unresponsive lockups. Mouse/Keyboard stop responding, UI's stop updating and I get a spinny beachball. When it becomes active again, any keys that were hit are then processes as they should. Everything I type is kept and/or the power button responds. Here's the kicker, if I whack the side of laptop, it start going again pretty much instantly and without fail. It seems like the sudden motion sensor is working in reverse somehow.
SMART Status on the HD says verified, Took the RAM out and put it back in. RAM reports status of OK. Temperature is low. All updates have been applied. Nothing (at all) showing up console logs when it happens. Happens when Laptop is plugged in or running on battery. Even happens during the log-in screen after boot. Happened a few times a few days ago, and the frustratingly consistently for about an hour today. It seems to have stopped now.

I think I may have figured out what was happening with my macbook: Misfired Firmware update.
I noticed my firmware version was .00 and it should have been .02, but it wasn't telling me in the software update that I needed a new version. I did the manual firmware update: Shut down, hold down power until there is a long BONNNNNNNNGGGGG. I got the firmware status bar and the firmware successfully applied. It then tried to start up for about 30 minutes, I got frustrated and restarted it and now it seems to be working. I don't know how it would have happened, I didn't notice anything weird immediately after my last set of updates were applied.
I don't know for certain it IS fixed, however in the small amount of time I had to **** with it since, it was behaving a lot better. I'll post any news.

  • Macbook locking up! Help!

Bought a used macbook from trusted seller w/ upgraded HD-320gig, and 4gig ram.
machine locks up a few different ways:
    1. running screen savers and itunes visualizer (every time)
    2. opening Graphic applications - photoshop, i photo (some of the time)
    3. running iwork apps (sometimes)
    4. internet (sometimes)
Problem is intermittent, it will lock up and have to cold reboot 5 to 6 times before it stops, then it behaves like nothing is wrong. Power off and reboot, the problem re-emerges. Machine acts differently each time. First lockup, I get the Beachball cursor, next it will lock up all except trackbar, or not load bluetooth, or airport, or other stuff.
I took it to the Genious Bar and a disc utily diagnostic was performed, issues were found and resolved. Machine worked flawlessly for about 24 hours then problem resumed. I did another disc utility and machine says that the drive is functioning properly. Genious tech said Hard drive could be bad.
could a bad drive be causing my problem? Should I replace it? Could aftermarket Ram be a culprit? Software or graphics card issues???

It doesn't sound like a GPU problem. It could be the drive... but doesn't really seem like it. There's a good chance that the drive errors that were found may have been the result of forced shutdowns when the machine locked up. Those problems could be caused by third party RAM as well. The problem with buying a used machine is that you have no idea of it's history. Someone may have spilled something on it in the past or just about anything.
Have you tried creating a new user account and logging in to that to see if it resolves the problem? Sometimes there can be driver/settings issues that can be tested by using a different account.
Have you tried to do a clean install of the OS to see if that gets rid of the problem? That's generally the easiest way to determine if you have a hardware or software problem. If you do a clean install and you still have the problem, it is likely hardware related.

  • For some reason I cannot delete files off my desktop without putting my password in and even when I do I still can't delete and I also can't put files on my desktop at all ! but when I look at my desktop it gives me a silver lock? Please help me?

when I go to find my desktop in Finder it shows a folder and a silver lock ? PLEASE HELP ME !

If the light will not turn on the TC is dead. No matter that the hard disk is running.. it should only run at start up or when it is accessed not constantly.. that means the board in the TC has failed. Apple do not repair them.. They will replace it under warranty or applecare.
If you have gone over the 12month warranty it will still be covered if you have applecare on any computer or an Apple TV. In fact the cost of the apple TV plus apple care is still cheaper than buying a new TC.. so it is a route some people are taking.. certainly depends.. in some places like Europe or Australia now, there is a recognition that statutory warranty must be longer on a product that is premium to the market. 12months is not good enough. Apple will sometimes listen.
They might be fixable but I do not know how.

After upgrading to Mavericks my Mac Pro does not open my double CD drives when I hit eject in the menu bar it locks up (please Help)?

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes) in the search box. Note the timestamps of those log messages, which refer to the times when the system was booted. Now clear the search box and scroll back in the log to the last boot time after  you had the problem. Select the messages logged before the boot, while the system was unresponsive or was failing to shut down. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). Please include the BOOT_TIME message at the end of the log extract.
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
Still in Console, look under System Diagnostic Reports for crash or panic logs, and post the entire contents of the most recent one, if any. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if present (it may not be.) Please don’t post any other kind of report — it will be very long and not helpful.

  • I need a MacBook experts, master to help me!!! I just tried the craziest move on my mac! My dad's gonna kill me if he finds out!!!

I need a MacBook experts, master to help me!!! I just tried the craziest series of moves on my mac.
Begun when the mac hung for nearly an hour. I held the power key to force a shut off.
This made me think of erasing some things on my hard drive. I used cmd r for disk utility and begun erasing volumes.
Then, I thought instead, why not just reinstall OSX since nothing I wanted was on it.
I tried to reinstall OSX but this time it loaded then suddenly said, an error occurred.
I Went back to disk utility and cleared stuff I can't even remember.
Another unbelievable thing happened. The disk utility actually hung for a good ten minutes! i went and forced a shut off again.
Now, whenever I turn the mac on, a flashing folder appears.
at this point, I usually turn to the net for answers.
Greatest thing is, every cmd something I try doesn't even trigger a reaction. Only cmd opt showed my mouse cursor.
i Do not have the original OSX install disk for my mac. Any geniuses got any clues???

Your post somehow found its way to a low-traffic forum about technical issues with posting in Apple Support Communities. I have asked the Hosts to move you to a more appropriate hardware forum for your product.

  • Installed windows 7 64 bit on my macbook .. but now got my macbook without audio. please help me!

Installed windows 7 64 bit on my macbook .. but now got my macbook without audio. please help me!

You most likely installed Windows 7 in EFI mode. Can you confirm this?
If you used Bootcamp Assistant to partition your drive, you did not install in EFI mode.
If you selected "EFI Boot" at the boot menu before installing Windows, you started the EFI Boot installer.
Please let us know whether or not you installed in EFI mode because audio not working is a common problem in EFI mode, but should not appear in normal BIOS mode. (Normal BIOS mode is when you used Bootcamp assistant)

My grandsons new Apple refurbed 35g ipad keeps locking up with a black screen amd nothing else. I have reset it many times pressing the home and off buttons together but it keeps locking up. Help, please!

Thank you for trying to help. I followed your instructions, it took 6 hours to download, and then said it could not solve the problem (something to do with error 9?). It will have to go back to Apple - its only 3 days since it came out of the package and its very disappointing for him. Looks like I have to hang around in the Apple store in Plymouth all tomorrow until they can fix it, or will change it. Thanks for your help.

  • HT204406 iTunes Match saying I'm limited to 5 devices...but I don't have 5 devices and won't work on my MacBook Pro. Please Help!

I've just got a new MacBook Pro, and want to have iTunes Match on it. But when I go to 'add this computer' in iTunes on the MacBook, a message comes up saying I've reached my limit of Match being on 5 devices. This makes no sense because I only have match on my iPad and my old Windows laptop and nothing else.
Out of curiosity, I turned off iTunes Match on my iPad to see what would happen, but I still cannot get Match on my MacBook Pro.
    Please help!

    Do a backup before proceeding.
Try putting the 10.6.3 disk in the computer. During a restart, hold down the option/alt key, select the disk, and see if you can boot from there. If so, select the language, then go to the Utilities menu, and select Disk Utility. Check to see what partition scheme you have by selecting the hard drive.
If you don't have GUID, you are going to need to erase the drive and reformat, which will cause you to lose all your data. Did I mention doing a backup?
If you do have GUID, run Disk Utility repair disk and repair permissions. You may have to do this more than once. Then try in install 10.6.3.
If successful, use the combo update to get to 10.6.8 and then run Software update until there are no more updates.

hello my frend, i dont know what i have to do. I bought iphone 4 from ebay and it is locked can you help my to unlock ?
    <Edited By Host>

Only the wireless carrier to which the iPhone is locked can unlock
it. Contact them to see if they offer unlocking and if you qualify.
Apple does not unlock iPhones - wireless carrier has this responsibility.

Apple seems to be naming their operating sytems usability based on the respective turd size of the feline in question. Lions are big, very, very, very big.
I had a system that served me well for 2 years until I mistaking bought a new machine which runs mega-turd (Lion). Foolish me, now nothing works properly, its a daily struggle to get anything working smoothly using my NEW mac mini. All my other machines work fine, even the windows machines and my Android tablet see all the network components and can talk to each other.
My Internet service is over 3g which I share to the house using internet sharing via my brand new €800 mac mini running POS Lion, everytime the service is interrupted, Kaboom, the mini resets the DHCP server, but doesn't seem to refresh any of the components so connections drop everywhere.
Its amateur hour at Apple folks.
There are several posts alone relating to internet sharing, I have submitted a bug report relating to the non user controllable DHCP server (which may be at fault), but the response / solution from Apple was lacklustre and ultimately didn't work.
    See this, there are some work around's in there;
