Macbook loses wifi, prevents other devices from connecting too.

Hi guys
I have a strange problem whereby my macbook seems to lose its wifi connection, and prevent all other devices from connecting to wi fi either.
its very odd as the router still shows up in available networks with full signal, but I cannot connect to it and neither any other device, including ipads, mobile phones and various other windows laptops.
This can only be fixed by restarting the router, which is a pain as its tucked away upstairs!
I know its my macbook casuing the problem and not the router as the problem didn't exist until I came home from uni, and it hasn't happened at all over the last two weeks while my laptop was away getting a new battery. Today I got the macbook back and the problem has returned! More than a coincidence me thinks!
This can happen three or four times an evening and is very frustrating, especially for the rest of my family!
Once I have restarted the router the connection normally comes back, however sometimes I get an exclamation over the wifi logo in the menu bar, saying no internet connection.
My macbook is a aluminium 2ghz core 2 duo running OSX Lion with all the most recent updates, and the router is a BT homehub 2.0.
Any help would be gratefully appreciated!
Thanks in advance.

I have had this problem after my (work provided) 2008 macbook was updated to mountain lion. I have tried all the suggested fixes with some success, resetting PRAM has occasionally sorted this out, deleting the wifi and then re-starting and restoring works, but is very tedious to do every time you need a connection!!
A further wifi problem caused by the update was the loss of access to passwords in keychain- checking the 'access by all applications' box in keychain preferences helped reconnection too.
The tip I wanted to pass on is this-
If you are having these problems, and resetting the wifi has sorted it out, turn off the wifi Every Time before you shut down the machine. This simple action seems to allow the mac to keep it's settings intact, and it can be turned on again without any problems the next time you boot the macine up.
The connection problems can't be hardware- this machine is as fast and stable as the new retina mackbookPro it sits beside- when it can see the signal......

  • Can I reject other devices from connecting to my U330p?

    Hi,
I've installed McAfee anti-virus software in my 1-mth old U330p. However, I'm getting annoyed by the frequent McAfee pop-up messages informing me that a few devices have been connected to my laptop. My issue is, I don't recognise those devices. Is there a way to reject other devices from auto-connecting to my laptop?
    Please help. Many thanks!

Are you getting the Pop up telling you ip address that are trying to access?
These possible being done by a Torrent or any file sharing Application
As these apps will require you to share anything you have downloaded.
These apps work on a peer to peer sharing.
    Or if Not
Can you share the Screenshot of the pop ups?

  • Windows 7 notebook prevents other devices from joining network

    hey,
i've nosed around the web and the apple forums and haven't turned up a possible answer so here goes a new thread.
i have (and have had) a 100% apple ecosystem at home for years w/ no trouble: airport extreme (recently replaced a flying saucer with whatever was current as of June '11), three extremes (two from the g-only era, one newer n model, all configured to "connect to wifi network") and iphones, an ipad, and macbook pros. hunky dory, no problems for literally years.
this summer, family came to live with us and spoiled the pot with an Acer laptop running win 7 sp1 (double checking everything was up to date was the first thing i checked). w/ this new addition to our family of electronics i've had the following problem:
the windows 7 machine will stay connected to the network fine but any of the other apple devices that try to connect can't. this is true of iphones, ipad, and macbook pros (4 of them) running either Snow Leopard (up to date) or Lion (up to date). the extreme has not crashed, it's just not connecting any other devices --i.e. the windown lappy is connected and working fine.
i end up having to reboot the extreme and then things are fine. often, the windows 7 laptop is being used for skype, so there's steady traffic to it, even when other devices can't connect. the SSID is hidden, i've been flipping between WPA2 only or WPA/WPA2 which seems slightly more robust. and the windows laptop is a personal machine, not configured to connect to windows domains.
any thoughts or ideas on how to resolve things so i don't need to reboot my extreme daily would be appreciated.

Just a thought, maybe un-hide your network's SSID (hiding it is of little security value anyway).  For some reason, and I don't know this to be true, but my experience with Apple products is that a hidden SSID causes wi-fi connection problems with Apple clients (but perhaps only when there's a Windows machine in the mix?)
On my network (currently a Linksys router, soon to be AirPort Extreme) if I hide the SSID then only my Windows boxes will reliably connect -- the iPhone, iPod, and Mac all go "duh?" and lose connection.  Maybe in an all-Apple network this doesn't happen, but based on my experience and that of others I'm wondering if its your hidden SSID that's causing the problem.

  • HT204291 Airplay on Mac prevents other devices from using airplay

I have successfully connected my mid 2011 Mac mini to my 3rd gen Apple TV to allow for extended desktop on Mavericks. The problem is after I have disconnected Apple TV from the Mac mini and turned off airplay features, the Apple TV stays connected to the Mac mini, causing the Apple TV to turn on and stay on, even when the Mac mini is asleep. I have also just found out that this unwanted connection prevents my other iOS devices from using Airplay with Apple TV. The device will connect momentarily the then be kicked off with the Apple TV showing that it's "playing" an "Untitled" track from "Internet radio". At the time of this incident, the Mac mini was on sleep mode. This problem was resolved when I shut down the Mac mini.
What is causing this unwanted connection and how can I be able to use Airplay from devices without having to shut down my Mac mini?

Thank you for the quick reply HACKINT0SH. But it does not solve anything.
When i move the iMac to the first floor and connect trough wifi it works. When I move the device back to the cellar then it works via LAN for a day or so... After some time the Airplay Icon is just gone
It seems that the Mac is not searching anymore for AirPlay devices or the broadcasts goes nuts.
Is there any way to search manually for AirPlay devices?

  • IMac won't connect to Wifi until other devices have connected

When I switch on my iMac (before switching on any other devices) it won't connect to my wifi (Fritzbox). It just says that the password is invald. However, once either my tablet (Android 4), Kindle or Windows laptop have been switched on and have automatically connected, suddenly the iMac connects.
I have spoken with my IP (who also supplied the Fritzbox) but they were no help.
Has anyone else experienced this? Or could anyone offer a possible sollution?
    Thanks, Xob

Why not delete or at least rename your network plist files and start fresh, when all else fails this usually works for me.
Turn off your wifi, delete it from the system preferences,,,,network settings
    Now go here
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration
and move the following files to the desktop (if they exist)
    com.apple.airport.preferences.plist
    preferences.plist
    com.apple.nat.plist
    NetworkInterfaces.plist
    Settings.plist
Now go back to system preferences and setup your networking again "add wifi, etc..."

  • How to ensure your computer information is kept private and to prevent other devices from accessing it

Recently I was on a public network and it seemed to me that my volume kept on increasing while I was trying to watch a video. I contemplated that it might be my key stuck, but it seemed fine every other time I used it (and is fine now at home). That led me to the conclusion that someone was probably remotely accessing my macbook's volume setting for some malicious prank.
How would you be able to tell if a device is remotely connected to yours, without authorisation?
    ====
I also looked up the possibility that people were using 'ssh' to harrass me. I'm not quite sure how it works, but I would like to make it so that people would not be able to find my computer's information to connect to it in the future.

TM backups retain the same exact permissions as the originals. so if other users did not have access to them on the main drive, they won't have access to them on the backup drive either.
and be VERY careful playing with permissions on the TM drive. it's easy to ruin TM backups that way.

  • My IPhone and iPad stopped connecting to home wifi. Other devices still connect.

My Iphone and IPad just stopped connecting to home Wifi; other divices still work including my IMac

Try resetting your wireless router and modem.
Disconnect the wireless router from the power source followed by disconnecting the modem from the power source. Wait 5 minutes followed by reconnecting the modem to the power source and allow the modem to completely reset before reconnecting the wireless router to the power source.

  • TS1398 My iPhone 4 won't connect to my home WiFi, but all my other devices are connecting to it just fine. Please help!

Hey everyone, I have been having this problem for about a day or two now. I have an iPhone 4, and have iOS 7.1.2. Basically, my iPhone will connect to my home WiFi sometimes, but it randomly loses connection and won't connect for hours upon hours. I have tried turning it on and off multiple times as well as resetting the network settings. I know that it is not my network's problem because a member of my family has an iPhone 5S, and it works fine with the WiFi, along with all of my other devices. This issue is getting very annoying as I don't like to use my cellular data at home since it is limited. Please help me!!

  • TS1398 My Iphone 5 wont connect to my home wifi but other devices will. What do I do?

I went away for a weekend and when I came home my iphone would not connect to my home wifi. I have tried everything I could think of. Reset the phone, the network settings, the router everything that I could possibly think of. Other devices will connect to the wifi but just not the phone.

Remove all power from the router for about 15 seconds. If that doesn't fix it check if you have MAC filtering enabled on the router. If you do the iPhone needs to be added to the Allowed list.
