  • HP Laserjet P1005 printer makes a loud rasping noise as soon as it is turned on

My Laserjet P1005 printer makes a loud rasping noise as soon as it is turned on. The noise stops when the top cover is opened, but starts again when the cover is closed. The printer has been used sparingly at home and from a cursory inspection, the rollers seem to be okay. Can anyone help me to solve this problem? Thank you!

    Hi @Dunn1 ,
I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publically post ( serial numbers and case details).

    Has anyone had this problem?

in the future, buy this, this is what the Pros use:
for drops, accidents, spills, loss, or theft, purchase a TYPE of insurance called "inland marine insurance"
roughly $30 per year for a device(s) with 0 deductible, used same for over 20 years, same insurance the pros use on their portable devices.
very cheap, very useful insurance, most people dont know about same.

  • Why does the MacBook Pro make a loud heat noise?

So, when I was playing a game called "Modern Combat Domination" my MacBook Pro make a very loud heat noise? Does that mean I should stop playing the game? I worried. Thank You.

That means your fan(s) sped up to dispose of the excess heat generated by playing the game. It's a sign that your machine is taking care of itself properly.

  • Why dose my Macbook makes really loud noise ?

When it is loading a disc, doesn't matter it's has movie, music, or software in the disc, the computer always makes this loud noise, it's driving me crazy every time, is it normal ?

My Macbook's drive if pretty loud too but I don't often have a disc in there. Usually only for a software install (not very often) or to burn something (fairly often). The fan running, especially if you're watching a video stream is pretty common. If you're really concerned, do you have any friends with MacBooks or is there a store nearby that sells Macs? Go check them out and see if your's is really loud of if it's just the nature of the super drive to be that loud.
Like I said I think mine is pretty loud but I don't use it enough to let it bother me.

  • My 2008 Macbook Pro makes a loud fan noise.

    Hello -
I bought my 15" macbook pro back in October 2008. I was very happy with my purchase due to the machine's performance. But over the past year I have noticed an increase in the fan noise. It almost sounds like it's hitting against something at a very high speed, hense this irregular fan noise. The noise also increases drastically when I am working on Photoshop or InDesign. I also partitioned my hard-drive to hold windows so I can work on AutoCad.....noise increases also as I work on my machine.
Why is this happening? Could this loud fan noise damage any internal component to the machine? Should I bring it in to Apple immediately?
    Thank you!

Some of the applications that you mention are somewhat CPU intensive which creates heat and results in fan speed increase and hence additional noise (to state the obvious).  However if you are experiencing excessive noise when CPU loads are modest it could be that your fans are failing as all mechanical devices eventually will or you may have 'schmutz' inside that is the cause of the unwanted noise.
I suggest you open the MBP and see if there is any dust in the fans that may very well be affecting their performance.  After 4 years, this is not an uncommon situation and it could be the solution to the problem.
If not, then you may consider getting replacements from iFixit or Powerbook Medic and replace them your self.  It is not rocket science in this instance.  If you suffer from chronic fingerfumbilitis, then have the Apple store do it for you.
    Ciao.

    Hi,
Shut down the notebook.  Tap away at f10 as you start the notebook to enter the bios menu.  Under the Advanced or Diagnostic tab you should find the facility to run tests on both the Hard Drive and Memory.  Post back with the details of any error messages.
If both the above tests pass, try the following.
From the Start Menu, open All Programs, open Accessories, right click the Command Prompt and select 'Run as Administrator'.  In to the prompt type the following command and hit enter.
sfc /scannow                 ( note that there is a space between sfc and the / )
Let the process complete, then type exit and hit enter.
Next, click the Start Menu, click Computer, left click Local Disc C once to highlight it, right click Local Disc C and select Properties.  Click the Tools tab and then click the button to 'Check the Drive for Errors'.  In the following window make sure both boxes are ticked and then click Start.  Part of this process will require a restart to check the drive.

  • Whenever I boot my macbook up, it makes a loud rattling noise. On the upper right side. Not sure what it is. It just started a few days ago.

Everytime I boot my macbook up, it make this really loud noise. Usually you hear the disc drive (or whatever it is) booting up, but this is ten times that and it doesn't very good! Not sure what's going on...

    OK - more details/info now.
When I use terminal and type this:
    drutil eject
I believe the DVD drives makes the odd noise I heard when I booted the laptop up.
    Any thoughts?
I'm guessing that means my fan/hardrive are actually OK then, and it's probably the mechanism in the DVD drive that is causing problems?
I'm almost certain there's no DVD stuck in there?

  • Loud Humming Noise?

    Hi There,
Am using a new iMAC G5 and have been noticing after being on it after a short while it starts to hum - really loudly - when surfing the net mostly? Sounds like a loud fan. Anyone else have/know of this problem. Am new to iMAC and MAC and I love the machine but have been reading posts and there seems to be quite a few issues? Serious MAC users - what do you think of it?
    Thanks....

    Optimus-
Be that as it may, you must agree that the "noise" issue has been beaten to death in these forums, and if one does a simple search of these discussions they will find at least a dozen things to try BEFORE they start complaining here.
I personally have no problem helping out someone that has a "noisy" Mac, provided that person is willing to try the suggestions AND not use these boards to reiterate the obvious.
In the Mini Mac forum, one guy (I can too, but not until I read about his woes and started training my ear towards power brick sounds) can hear the pitch change in the frequency of his mini's power brick when the computer is sleeping and pulsing the light. As the light changes brightness, the brick changes frequency. Go figure.
We both find the noise annoying. Neither of us intend to file a lawsuit at this time.
Noise level, and for that matter image quality, are very subjective matters. I would really like to see the folks that are complaining about noise spend 40 bucks at Radio Shack and get a sound pressure meter, do a sound test, and then come forward with the results. My gut tells me that almost all of these "noisy" machines fall well under Apple's published specifications.
    Ranting done.
    Peace.

  • My Office jet 7110 makes a loud grinding noise when I start it up.

My all-in-one also fails to generate the report using menu options 3,5.
Could it be a false paper jam?  I checked for a paper jam.  That wasn't it.

Is it three beeps? That usually means that you have a bad RAM stick or that it is not properly seated.
Can you boot to your Recovery partition? Hold down the Command and R keys when you power on.
If you can't boot from your Recovery partition, try to boot while holding down the "D" key - this should take you to the Apple Hardware Test - see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1509. If the D key does not work, try holding down the Option and D key when booting (make sure that you have an Internet connection).
If all of these steps fail, get your machine to an Apple Store. You are still under your one-year warranty.

  • My macbook makes a doorbell noise every so often. It seems like it is not connected to any kind of notification or event. Any idea what might be going on?

My macbook is making a doorbell noise sometimes. I have no idea why. It seems totally unrelated to anything I am doing or receiving on the computer. I do not use much on my mac other than Microsoft Word, Google Chrome and sometimes mail- its basically used for school and not much else. I just want to know what the sound means and if there is anything I should do. Any ideas?

    What ISP?
    What router?
    Who made it, what software?
Is it just the iPad ( Anything else using wifi at your place having problems? ) ?
Give us something to go on.

  • My MacBook Air shut down suddenly and is making a loud ticking noise.

I was working on my laptop then suddenly the screen went black (no shutdown screen or noise appeared) and it has now begun to make a loud ticking noise similar to a clock. It won't come back on and none of the keys are illuminated as they were previously. Any suggestions?

I would strongly suspect a failed hard drive. Take it in to an Apple Centre for a free diagnostic.
