Macbook memory to ibook?

I've just bought a new macbook, which was originally with 2GB memory and i've had 4GB put in it. Now i've still got the two !gb cards that came out of the macbook and would like to put one of them in my Ibook g4 1,33 ghz. Is this possible or are they not compatible???

PC2700 is for your iBook G4 and PC2-5300 is for your MacBook. I don't think you are going to be able to use the RAM from the MacBook in your iBook. Sorry!

  • I HAD MY MACBOOK MEMORY CLEARED AND CANNOT UPLOAD MY IPHOTO ANYMORE

I recently had my macbook memory cleared and reset to all default settings. I was advised to back up all my personal documents and data as everything will be cleared. However, due to some technical issue (and one of the reason for memory wipe) i had to manually backup important documents, which were my itune, iphoto, and uni assignments.
After i my macbook had been wiped and returned to default settigns i began to reinstalled the documents i had backed up on my external hard drive. However, when i came to open iphoto it was saying i had to download it from the app store?? when i looked on the app store it was asking for me to buy iphotos for over £10 !! i was not aware i would have to buy this feature as i never originally bought the feature when i first got my macbook. without downloading iphoto i cannot access my photos which was the main thing i wanted to save as these are personal memories of me and my children.
Can anyone help me with this issue as i do not feel i should buy iphoto just so i can recover my own photographs, i have already paid for the memory wipe as it was strongly advised by the technician, who also helped me back up my documents in the store (which took 4 hours). I am correct in thinking that iphoto originally came as standard on my macbook when i bought it in 2009 or will i be required to purchase this and download it again??

Your post says you have a late 2009 MacBook with OS X 10.6.8. With the MacBook, you received 2 gray-faced OS X disks, one with the system programs and one with application programs. The application program disk will have iPhoto on it, so you would re-install it from there. See this Apple note on how to reinstall iPhoto.

Hi - I'm trying to sync iBooks on my Macbook Pro with iBooks running on my iPad. I have some pdf's download from the net I want to share between devices and I can't work out how to sync the two devices. Any help please? I'm running Mavericks

Thanks for your help Brij011 - much appreciated. Apologies as I'm a newbie but I've looked at the info for synching and I appear to have all the switches flicked on my iPad. Does the iPad and iBooks only sync in iCloud for purchases as I appear to be doing something wrong. I could sync ok when books was in iTunes but since migrating to Mavericks I think I'm doing something wrong!!

  • Wireless router for iMac, MacBook Pro and iBook G4

I am in a deep trouble finding a wireless router which could be configured by a Mac and working with iMac, MacBook Pro and iBook G4. Please recommend me a wireless router

Any 802.11 b/g/n or 802.11 b/g WiFi router will work. Any router can be configured by a Mac. While some now ship with fancy configuration software that attempts to mimic the easy setup of an Apple base station, they all can be configured via a web browser. My own preference is NetGear.

  • Connecting macbook keyboard to iBook...

I upgraded from my iBook G4 to a MacBook in June, yesterday I realised I had some files on my old iBook that I wanted to get hold off, but I couldn't log into my iBook due to some damage with the keyboard... I haven't been keeping it very well since I stopped using it, so I can't tell what exactly, (maybe liquid?) but though it switches on fine etc... The keyboard does not seem to be working at all, and as it's password protected I can't log in to move anything...
Is there any way to connect my current macbook to my old ibook and use my macbooks keyboad? I hope this isn't a silly question... Does that make any sense?
If not, will connecting a regular keyboard (from my brothers desktop pc for example) work?
    Thanks in advance. x

You can't connect the Macbook to the iBook keyboard. You can use a USB keyboard and connect it to the iBook and use it that way.
If you connect the two computers with a firewire cable and boot the iBook while holding the T key the iBook hard drive will boot into target mode and it will appear on the MacBook desktop. YOu can then drag and drop what you need from the iBook to the MacBook.

  • MacBook, to my iBook?

How do I xfer my itunes music from my MacBook, to my iBook? I have wireless, and also firewire connected to both.

    Hi pfhannan,
Since you have a firewire cable the FireWire Target Disk mode would be the best way to go. Do the following:
    1. Switch on the iBook; leave the MacBook off.
    2. Connect one end of the firewire cable to the iBook, the other end to the MacBook.
    3. Switch on the MacBook and immediately press and hold the 'T' key.
    4. When the firewire symbol appears on the MacBook let go of the 'T' key.
Your MacBook is now in FireWire Target Disk mode and it's hard disk will appear on the iBook's desktop. Simply double click it, navigate to where your iTunes Music folder is and drag it to the iBook's desktop.
When the transfer is complete, eject the MacBook by dragging it's hd icon from the desktop to the trash. Press the power button on the MacBook to switch it off and disconnect the firewire cable.
You can now move the transferred iTunes folder from the desktop to it's 'proper' location which is in your ~/Music folder.
When you now fire up iTunes it should read from that folder. You may, if you haven't already, need to update iTunes so that it's the same version as that on the MacBook. You can do this via Software Update.

  • Portability of MacBook Vs 12' iBook G4

I had an 12'iBook G4 till yesterday, when i dropped it with damage severe enough to make buying a new iBook/MacBook a cheaper option. I loved the iBook because of its size, but the macbook seems to be fairly bigger. Can you guys give me some input regarding how it the macbook compares with ibook?
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

Well, the MacBook is a little bit heavier, and has a slightly larger footprint. But something about the MacBook just seems to make it more portable to me than the iBook. After I got the MacBook, I found the iBook to be kind of clunky, and large (because of the thickness). The MacBook also seems MUCH more sturdy than the iBook. I remember with my iBook, the plastics weren't fitted very tightly together, the hinge was a little loose, and it just seemed kind of cheap. The MacBook, however, is very sturdy and the hinge has a perfect feel to it. I love my MacBook!

  • How does Macbook compare to ibook?

    Hi--
I currently have an ibook G4 and love it; however, I am running out of memory (I have an 80GB HD but a lot of video files) and would like a second Mac anyway since my husband seems to take over my ibook every time I walk out of the room. And I am tempted by the promotion that ends today, to get a free ipod, since my 30GB video ipod is also out of space (I would upgrade to the 80GB video ipod and just pay the difference).
What I am wondering, for those of you who've had an ibook and a macbook, do you like the macbook as well, or better? Or does it have problems the ibook did not? I guess I'm a little nervous because I've read a lot of posts about macbook problems, especially related to vibrating or the fan running, and I'm just wondering if the macbook is as reliable and user-friendly as the ibook. I love my ibook because it is so quiet, doesn't usually get too hot if used for general word-processing and internet surfing, and I've never had any unreliability issues. It may be a moot point, since I can't buy a new ibook anyway, but I just need to hear some positive stories about the macbook, especially from those of you who've also had ibooks. Thanks!

I have a 12" ibook and a 1st generation Core Duo Macbook. I bought the Macbook because my partner needed a notebook and was happy to get my iBook. In hindsight I think I should have bought the Macbook Pro, despite the extra expense, as this would probably have been a better upgrade from the iBook. However, the current version of the Macbook is a far better spec'd computer...faster, more hard drive space, more Ram, and I think that the problems that some early Macbooks were prone too have been ironed out. Mine had the random shutdown problem, but Apple fixed that under warranty and it has been very reliable since.
Plus points of the Macbook for me are:
-I like the glossy screen of the macbook, definitely superior to the iBook for photos.
-The keyboard took a few hours to get used to but I think I type faster on it now.
-The iSight camera is a huge benefit if you do any videochat (Skype, iChat), it is so nice to have such a good onboard camera.
-It is much faster for iMovie...no crashes or video drop outs. Could be that the extra Ram helps here.
    - my iBook has Panther so obviously having Tiger is an improvement.
    - Magnetic power supply is nice
-came with bluetooth and wireless as standard...I love using it for wireless internet in hotspots.
    Negative points would be:
_ A BIG one for me is that the optical drive on the Macbook is far less reliable and stable than the ibook. It rejects a lot of my cd's that the iBook takes no problem, scratches cd's, cd's get stuck frequently. I often have to load a cd onto the ibook, then copy the file to my Macbook, and I am forever having to try to eject stuck cd's. Some brands of blank cd's/dvd's won't work at all.
-Heat...there is no doubt, the Macbook gets very hot compared to the iBook. It is uncomfortable if you use it on your lap, and I do wonder whether eventually sone internal componant will just melt one day and kill the Macbook, but so far that hasn't happened so maybe I am worrying for nothing.
    - I don't think the general build quality is as good, it just doesn't feel as solid. I treat mine very carefully. However, I have a friend who takes his everywhere in a rucksack and has not suffered any ill effects.
As I said, if I was buying again I definitely would have opted for the Macbook Pro as this would have been a really nice jump up, but the Macbook is amazing value and if you need another computer you will enjoy owning it.
Have you thought about a new iMac...do you need a notebook because if you don't the iMac would be a good choice too? Much bigger hard drive, better graphics card, bigger screen.
Enjoy what ever you end up with.

  • MacBook memory upgrade

    Hi there,
I would like to ask for your experience with memory upgrades for white plastic MacBooks. I have one MB062LL/A (2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 1 GB RAM) and I just ordered another one MB402LL/B (2.1 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 1 GB RAM) to replace my wife's old iBook.
Would the memory upgrade be identical to both of them? I infer that would need to replace 2 identical memory chips in each computer, since they do not have empty expansion slot, so in fact now they do contain 2x512 MB, is that right?
Is there dramatic Leopard performance and responsivity difference if I bump it up to 2 GB? (2x1GB)? Is it worth of money spent? Real life experience anyone? Would it matter to go even higher to 2x2GB? Any measurable effect on it?
What should I look for at my upgrade chips? What qualities would be the figure of merit? I did found a site (http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/MacBook/DDR2/) where they seem to offer exactly what I look for, but would it work? and more importantly, would it work reliably? What brand would you go for? I've read all kind of horror stories with incompatible Memory and problems caused by it, and I would not like to take much risk. Where would you shop for mac memory?

    Hi,
According to Other World Computing, the memory is the same in both models. Right now, they contain 512MB in each slot.
You will notice a bit more speediness with more memory, but nothing blazingly fast. It's up to you to decide if the memory upgrade would be useful. If you use the computer for internet, eMail, MS Office, and other programs like that, you may not notice much of a difference and for now, you may want to stick with 1GB. But if you feel the MacBooks are a bit sluggish with 1GB, and you are using more RAM hungry applications like Photoshop, then upgrade to 2GB. I don't think that you would need to go the full way and put the maximum 4GB. As I said before, it will get a bit speedier, but nothing shocking.
Personally, I've been using Other World Computing (http://www.macsales.com/) for 5 years and I have never has any trouble with it. They are inexpensive, reliable, and they offer great performance. Their RAM has never given me any trouble. And if for some reason something goes wrong, all of their RAM has a lifetime warranty.
Best of luck, and please post back if you have any more questions.
    -Brian

Were these run from the install CD/DVD?
You might try booting your ibook while holding the 'Option' key down - this might give you your usual HD to start up from. Make sure the firewire cable is no longer connected.

  • Macbook Memory Upgrade, can I use this memory in my Pismo or Titanium PB?

I just bought a Macbook. I love it. I ordered a 1G of ram. Can I use the 512 memory from the original configuration in my Pismo powerbook or my Titanium powerbook?

No. You must use the memory specified by Apple in your MacBook's User Guide: PC5300-DDR2 667 MHz SODIMMs.

  • Syncing photos into my IPAD 2 is eating up my macbook memory space, it didn't with my IPAD1, is there a way to fix this?

I have a IPAD generation 1 and i just got my iPAD 2 last week, both ipad are 64 gb. I have a picture collection folder on my macbook pro desktop that is around 45 gb that i need for my work. The problem was that when i tried to sync this folder into my ipad 2, it started eating up a considerable amount of my computer memory space leaving me with around 13 gb left and mysteriously adding more gb to the foldering (it is around 90gb now). I've had my Ipad 1 for a while and it has never been a problem when i sync the same folder, i was also able to store a lot more document folders on my desktop before my ipad 2 came along. im wondering if the IPAD 2 somehow creates backup files of things it syncs within my computer and how i can get back my computer memory space?

    Try the standard fixes:
    - Reset. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
    - Restor from backup
    - Restoe to factory defaults/new iPod.
You can also look at the previous discussion on the right side of this page under the heading "More Like This" with yuor same poblem.

I currently am downloading an application that i realized post-facto that exceeds my Macbook's ram memory. will it hurt my laptop if i allow it to finish downloading? could I delete it after it downloads or can i delete it while its paused in the downloading process?

Once the app is downloaded use this utility to uninstall >  Download AppCleaner for Mac - Uninstall your apps easily. MacUpdate.com
You can allow the app to finish downloading. The app doesn't require memory (RAM) until you open and use the app.
