Macbook, NAS, and iTunes

I have my music library stored on a Buffalo TeraStation and have set my destination folder to the appropriate folder on the drive (\\terastation\share\iTunes\iTunes Music|\). However, when the computer leaves the network, I am disconnected from the drive. If I open iTunes without reconnecting to the drive, iTunes defaults to my computer's HDD without letting me know and will rip music to my HDD, download it, etc. Is there a way to set up iTunes so it will ONLY connect to the network storage drive? Or at least for it to inform me that it is changing the settings that I have put into it? Or even better, just have my Macbook automatically reconnect to the drive when it reenters the network?
Thanks,
Bryan

What I found works the easiest for me was to move the entire itunes folder to the nas, including the database files, as well as the music folder. This way if the drive is unaccessible when I open itunes, itunes pops up a message saying the itunes music folder is not available, and I know to mount the drive. It also allows me to make changes to the itunes database/playlists etc. from different computers, and have all the changes reflected no matter what computer I am using. The downside is that you can only access the library from one computer at a time. You need to close itunes on one computer before you can use the same library on a different computer. To do I consolidated my itunes library to the default itunes location on my computer, so that the itunes database files, and music folder where all in the same itunes folder. I then moved the entire itunes folder over to my nas. Finally start itunes holding down the option key and when prompted to select a library, select the itunes folder on the nas. Also make sure copy to library is turned on, and that itunes is still pointing at the correct music folder on the nas when you are finished.

  • Airport Extreme = NAS and iTunes server?

Looking for a way to move my external 2TB disk with iTunes content from my iMac and in to the Airport Extrem usb connection. All because I want to access my iTunes library without turning on my iMac. My wish is to use it all from my iPhone remote and be sure that AppleTV also synch to my library from the same disk.
    Is this possible?
Are Airport Extreme capable of doing the job as a NAS and iTunes server?

    no.
you need iTunes running. you can sync content to the Apple TV, then shut down your iMac, and play the content on the Apple TV on your TV set (or stream tunes from the Apple TV to airport express). you can control the content on the ATV with the Apple remote app installed on your iPhone.

  • I bought a new macbook pro and iTunes will not let me purchase anything. All computers unregistered. This computer is registered. Cannot purchase anything using my apple id and my apple id works because i buy things on my i phone. What is the problem

I bought a new macbook pro and now every time i try to buy anything with my apple id it doesn't go through. I tried Ibooks and iTunes but neither one will work. I have registered this computer and even tried unregistering all the other computers but that did not do anything. I also checked my form of payment and that is not the problem either because i have no problems what so ever buying anything on my iPhone or my desktop computer.
    It is just this computer.
I try to buy something and something pops up and says... "We could not complete your iTunes Store request. An unknown error occurred (-45054). There was an error in the iTunes store. Please try again later."
And i have been trying later for 2days now.

Have you tried repairing disk permissions : iTunes download error -45054

  • IPhone 5 isn't recognized by Macbook Pro and/iTunes 11.1.3

    Hey guys,
I recently updated my Macbook Pro's software to OS X 10.7.5 and iTunes to 11.1.3 and never had problems with syncing my iPhone 5. However, the other day my computer was having problems syncing the music, only syncing certain songs (even though my iTunes library on my Mac had them and they are playable), and now my computer isn't even recognizing my phone anymore. At first when the computer would recognize the phone, it would stop at certain syncing points (like copying music step) and now, there's nothing. I've gotten new USB cords, I've uninstalled iTunes and reinstalled it, searched tirelessly through forums/discussions, I've turned my phone and computer off numerous times thinking it would recognize the iPhone afterwards, but nope. Please offer me some suggestions here because I'm losing my mind not being able to listen to all the music I just downloaded. Thanks everyone.

    Here's the troubleshooter:

It seems like the major clue above is to disconnect other devices from your USB port(s), and use a USB port directly on your Mac.

  • NAS and iTunes?

    Hi all,
I have recently bought a naim unityqute which is an all in one player, streamer, amp and dac.
I have decided to get a NAS in order to store all my music in it and be able to access it via the naim unityqute with the aid of an iPad, as not to have the computer s HDD full and slowing my computer.
However, I was wondering if I could also use iTunes with a NAS, so that I could access all of the kids downloaded movies/cartoons via the apple tv home sharing function.
Is that possible and if yes is it hard to set up? Any better brand of NAS that offer iTunes support?
    Regards
    Jean

some nas offer itunes support as in they appear as sharedlibs but they don't appear enough
appletv's and ios devices will never access their media as they would a real shared lib
there are apps for ios which will let you access the NAS as upnp but not as the shared lib in terms of itunes
but your computer can have it's itunes media stored everywhere on a NAS on a floppy disc or usbstick
for appletv and ios device they only see the shared lib (the real one as in running on a computer)

  • Synology NAS and iTunes

    Hey everybody,
I know there's a lot written about this already, but it's pretty overwhelming and hard to find the answer.
I would like to have a music library on my Synology NAS that is synced with a local copy on my MBP.  Why?  I would like to have access to my library on the go even in the absence of an internet connection.
BUT, I would also like my family to have access to all the music at home while I'm away.  I'd also like a Sonos system to play our library without my MBP needing to be on.
Is this possible?  How would I do this?  Can I have a local library that is always in sync with one on the NAS?
    So confusing!
I really appreciate any help you can offer.
    James

    I have the same problem.
Finder sees my Synology NAS, but iTunes cannot seem to access the music. The NAS shows up in the sidebar, but I just keep getting the spinning wheel (or whatever it's called).
    Can anyone suggest a fix?
I should note that I have no issues with accessing the NAS through Finder - so it looks to be an iTunes issue.

  • Trouble connecting Macbook Air and iTunes with Apple TV

When I tried to connect my iTunes to my Apple TV,this message showed 'An error occurred while connecting to the AirPlay device “Apple TV”. An unknown error occurred (-15000)'. I just changed my iTunes ID. I am using Macbook Air 13" mid 2011 OS X Lion.
    Anyone has the same problem?

goto settings on your appletv and reapply your new  Apple ID information to correct the issue.      Same on your Air also if you havent already done so

  • MacBook Air and iTunes Match

How does one move an album purchased on an iPad set up with iTunes match to an iPod.  I have a MacBook Air, but the music does not sit locally on the device.  I used to have all my music installed locally on my MacBook Pro, (no problem here.  Sync and go )  but now that I've upgraded to the MacBook Air I cant figure out how to get this album on to my iPod unless I use up solid state hard drive space to store music.

Make sure you are signed into the Apple ID you used to purchase iTunes Match in Settings>iTunes & App Stores.  If you are, try tapping the ID, signing out, then signing back in.  Then try turning on iTunes Match again.

  • Syncing calendar on Entourage with Macbook pro and itunes prob!

    Hi there,
I have just spent an hour on the phone to apple then to Microsoft and neither solved my problem.
I have Entourage on my mac and have an IMAP account that is synced to my iphone 4. For some reason, I cannot sync my calendar on Entourage to my calendar on my iphone. When I create an event on my phone, it doesn't show in Entourage and vice versa. I've tried everything, deleting my sync history, clicking and unclicking the sync buttons in Entourage - still doesn't work. Also, when I deleted my sync history, my mail account disappeared from itunes when I sync my iphone. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You should copy everything from your old computer, or your backup copy of your old computer to your new one.

  • My macbook, iphoto and itunes

I hope this is the right area for posting this.
Sometimes I can drag a photo from iPhoto to my desktop and then to iTunes. I've done it once. Other times I can't. I was trying to do it today and the photo will not move from iPhoto.
    Any hints?

I hope you haven't bought the USB storage just yet. You already have the usd/ethernet dongle so transferring files should be very simle with an ethenet cable.
On your G4, in network preferences turn on file sharing and make sure your computer has a name.
then link the MBA to the G4 via ethernet. On the MBA, in the finder menu, pull down go, and select connect to server.
A new screen will appear and type in the name you gave your G4 and hit enter. Your G4 will then appear on the MBA desktop and you will be able to drag the files across to whichever location you want them in.

  • Setting NAS for iTunes

I have a long standing problem using iTunes and a NAS connected to a MacBook Pro. I have gone into Preferences/Advanced and I have set the iTunes Media Folder on the NAS. It works fine until I switch the laptop and the NAS off. I usually switch on the NAS first and then the laptop. The laptop finds the NAS and iTunes works fine but the Media folder is always set back to the default one.
    Can anybody help?
    Andrea

Sorry but no. There are no viewing preferences for the iTunes Store.

  • MyBook Live and iTunes

    Hi
I'm having trouble with connecting iTunes on my MacBook Air to my MyBook Live NAS drive.
I've kept my music on the NAS for a couple of years while using a PC/Windows laptop, but moving to the MacBook I can't get things to work in the same way. The iTunes library files and the music are in a folder on the NAS, and iTunes on the Macbook has been set to locate its media there. Initially I found this would show me my folders but no content in them.
But now, after resetting the preferences to try the process again, when I try to change to the NAS I get the message '"MyBook Live" can't be opened because the original item can't be found'.
The MyBook drive is working - it plays music via my Sonos system - though it's very slow when doing anything with the MacBook, much slower than it is with a much cheaper and lower-spec Windows laptop.
    Any ideas are very welcome!
    Gareth

...sorry, meant to say, when I did manage to connect to the NAS under preferences, it showed me my playlists, (not my folders), but with no content in them.
Now, though it appears to be locating the iTunes media locally, it still shows those playlists, so it appears to have a copy of my library on the MacBook, but there's no music on the laptop yet.

  • Can't get Home Sharing to work with ATV, v7.0.3 and iTunes 12.1.0.50

I can't get Home Sharing to work. I'm looking at my MacBook screen and iTunes says Home Sharing is On. On Apple TV, it says Turn On Home Sharing in iTunes. Both are using the same Apple ID and password (signed out and signed back in manually on both). I have tried the following: Signing out of and into Home Sharing on Apple TV and iTunes, closing iTunes and restarting the MacBook, restarting and restoring Apple TV to factory settings, restarting my router, all possible iterations of the aforementioned. Nothing seems to work. Also tried renaming my computer in preferences/sharing.
    Any new ideas?
    Using ATV3 software v7.0.3
    iTunes software v12.1.0.50
MacBook software OS X Yosemite v10.10.2

Only have one network; wireless. On it's own, the MacBook can use wifi to surf the net and Apple TV can watch movie previews from Apple via wifi.
It did work about two months ago. I haven't used it since then for home sharing but have used the Apple TV on its own.
I read the Troubleshooting page on Apple Support. It involves turning various things on and off, which I did
