Well, you could install the drivers to the wireless printer in you other computers.

  • Cant upgrade Airport Extreme on Macbook Pro Core Duo to 802.11n

I have an original Macbook Pro Core Duo, purchased not long after Apple's announcement of "Bootcamp", and it has a "Wireless Network Adapter (802.11 a/b/g).
From what I can tell from various documentation around the web, this should be upgradable to 802.11n with Apple's 802.11n Enabling software, however it tells me that the hardware is not compatible.
If anyone can suggest what I am doing wrong, or whether I miss out, that would be good.
Also, assuming it can not be upgraded, will running my local Airport network in "802.11n 5GHz 802.11a compatible mode" affect the speed of my other 802.11n devices on the network?
    Thanks.

So you're basically saying 'Link Speed' shows the current connection? If so, the problem resolved itself. Sorry, my bad. Thanks anyways.
(My Time Capsule hasn't arrived yet. I'm currently using an older version of Airport Express.)
Another thing. When I asked at the local Apple Center for the 802.11n card, they told me, the card itself is not sold separately and even if so, it could not be exchanged, since it's unremovably attached to the logic board. Why do they tell the customers something like that? I mean, if Apple doesn't want the users to make changes like that, fine. Then they should say so. But why make up stories in order to dissuade people from their ideas? Is that common policy?

  • Airport Express Printer Works with Macbook Pro, but not on Macbook

We have two Macs -- a Macbook Pro, and a Macbook. Both are connected to an Airport Express, and can access the internet and control Airtunes without any issue. However, only the Macbook Pro can print to the Aiport Express connected printer -- a Canon ip3500.
When I go to system preferences to add the printer on the Macbook, the printer is available, and it allows me to add it. However, the location of the printer and the driver( or at least the driver number) are different, even though it is pre-populated by the computer itself.
Once the printer shows as being installed, I can print to that printer, but the job is automatically "Stopped" in the status. I cannot restart the job, it just stalls out.
When the printer is connected via USB, the Macbook can print to it without issue. It can also print to it via bonjour if I share the printer from the Macbook Pro.
Anyone else having similar issues? Any suggestions on how to fix it would be greatly appreciated.

Try creating a new location in the network settings. Then select Network port configurations and drag Airport to the top of the list. Uncheck any unused connection types such as built-in modem and Bluetooth.

  • New Macbook - "There was an error joining the Airport network..."

    Hey,
Just bought a new macbook which comes with an Airport Extreme card. This has worked perfectly with my home router (Belkin Mimo) and my work router (unknown) as well as in various train stations and public places. However I'm currently staying at my parents house and I can't connect to their router (3Com Office Connect ADSL Wireless 11g Firewall Router). Originally I thought this was an encryption issue - my parents use a WEP password rather than more sophisticated encryption. However even after making it an open network I still get this familiar error message. I was originally able to log onto a neighbouring "Apple Network" which made me think it was just down to this particular router however I can now longer connect to this. Is Airport Extreme compatible with all networks or only the newest? Are there Mac/PC issues here? Or do you think I need to get my macbook to Apple to see if the Extreme card is faulty? I can still use this router via ethernet.

Just to add that I've up to date on all updates and tried various tricks from previous posts about this error message...

I am unable to turn on the airport in my macbook from systems preferences or from the top bar. any ideas?

There is no response from the computer. Nothing happens. When I run airport utilities, the utility does not pick up any wireless devices.  Yet there is an airport card in my macbook which was working fine until last week. Here's the screen that comes up from airport utilities.

  • How can I tun my Macbook Pro into a wi-fi router? I have no airport/ethernet devices; I've airport utility though.

I'm currently running Mac OS X 10.7.5 and I have no ethernet cable or airport devices. I have airport utility though. Is it possible to turn my Macbook into a wi-fi router under the current settings available?

I think I've figured out a way to do so without any ethernet cable and it's working pretty well for me since then. Although every time I initiate wi-fi sharing from my Mac, it says doing so could actually disrupt my connection (see screen shots); but I'm yet to experiance any kind of breakdown/disruption of my internet connection.
Anyway thanks for your answer and suggestions.

  • Airport Express and MacBook

I am about to go mad.. unless someone can help.
I have a MacBook 10.5.4; a Mac Mini 10.5.4 and an old Graphite iMac 10.4.11 - I have 3 x Airport Express Base Stations with speakers/printers connected thro' out my house - they have been configured to join the existing network which is centred on my Airport Extreme Base Station.
All of the software on the Base Stations and Macs are latest version via Apple Software Upgarde.
Now - Both the Mini and the iMac can see the 3 x Airport Express units plus the Airport Extreme in Apple Airport Utility. Both the Mac Mini and the iMac can stream iTunes to any of the Airport Express units as well as print to two printers connected to two of the Airport Express Units.
But - the Macbook has BIG problems. It cannot see any of the Airport Express Units in Apple Airport Utility AND it cannot see the speakers in the iTunes menu OR print to any of the printers plugged in to the Apple Airport Express units.
I also have an HP Printer/Copier which has wireless access for for printing via F180EE protocol. Again both the Mac Mini and the olderiMac can print this way BUT the Macbook cannot see the printer whatsoever.
I have tried re-setting the Airport Express Units (all 3 of them) - using the PIN (Factory Restore Setting). At "native" re-set stage, the Airport Express Units CAN be seen in Apple Airport Utility on the Macbook BUT - as soon as I try to configure them to join the wireless network hosted by the Airport Extreme - the software sticks (with the dreaded coloured rotating wheel) with the message - "Trying to Read Configuration". NOTHING can be done beyond this stage.
Finally - I can easily re-configure all 3 x Airport Express units in Airport Airport Utility using EITHER the Mac Mini OR the the iMac - configuration is easy and seamless as it should be.
So - does anyone know what is wrong with my new Macbook - and why can't is see / use / configure any of the Express Units.
I have spent hours and hours and hours trying to figure this out.
    Help!
    (Thanks!)
    Bob

Hi - yes - my Macbook is a month old so new... and yes I can see and access the wireless network via the Macbook and Airport Extreme Network. It also sees all my neighbours networks too.
It just does not want to see the Express Units at all. I CAN see the Extreme in Airport Admin Utility - but not the 3 x Expresses (not seen in Admin Utility or Airtunes!)
I have read lots of posts on here about Express units and not being seen in Admin Utility - but I cannot understand why my Mini and iMac can see everything yet the Macbook is being selective (yes to the Extreme but no to the Expresses).
    Weird eh?
Thanks for getting back to me. Any more tips / idea appreciated..
    Rob

  • My time capsule was working and then I added another Macbook pro. TC stopped appearing in Airport Utilities. I have tried resetting TC, I have turned if off and held reset button with pen for 10 secs. I just cannot work out what else to do?

My time capsule was working and then I added another Macbook pro. TC stopped appearing in Airport Utilities. I have tried resetting TC, I have turned if off and held reset button with pen for >10 secs. I just cannot work out what else to do? I have turned router off and on. Amber light is flashing.

The ethernet says self assigned IP 169.254.67.6
Then the ethernet is not getting an IP from the TC.. there is no connection.
I am not sure where you mean when you say the green LED should be on. Do you mean the TC?
    Thanks
In order to help troubleshoot ethernet connections all routers use connectivity leds.. even APPLE.. it has one big LED on the front.. and 4 tiny leds beside each ethernet port. That light has to come on for ethernet to be active.. if you plug an ethernet cable into the port and the light doesn't come on.. then there is no connection.. either the other end isn't plugged in.. or the cable is bad.. or the ethernet port is bad.. something is wrong.
To get access to the TC you need this led to be green.. is it?
If it is green and the WAN is also green.. then I want you to unplug the WAN connection.. the blue wire in the picture.. the port slightly separated from the 3 LAN port.. computer plugged just into LAN port.. no airport turned on.. and press the reset again for 10sec until front led flashes rapidly.. then try and bring up the airport utility again.. assuming the ethernet led is green.
How old and what model is the TC?
The A number from the rubber mat will tell us the model.

  • How do I install Airport Extreme + Bluetooth 2.0+EDR card on new G5?

I just received the card (Part# MA252G/A) in the mail but have no instructions on how to install it. The Apple website makes it seem like you have to have a BA in computer science to do it, so I'd like to see what's involved before attemting the install myself. Mind you, I've built computers from scratch so I'm inclined to believe I can so this myself with a little help.
    Thanks!

    Hi Nick -
Installation instructions that accompany cards are often sketchy as configurations can vary considerably from one system to another. If you take a look at the User's Guide that came with your G5 you should find the instructions you need for installing any type of card. In fact, my G5 User's Guide provides specifics for Airport Extreme installation. Check in the Index under 'Installing' & post back with detail if you have any problems. I think you'll find it rather straightforward.
    Good Luck |:>)

  • Installed updates--now Airport Card vanished

    Greetings,
I have the most recent 21.5" iMac (3.2 GHz) with the most recent OS installed.
Last night, I installed three updates: iTunes 10, Snow Leopard Graphics Update 1.0, and Security Update 2010-005 1.0. I restarted the computer.
This morning, I went to get online and my Airport was gone. It said "Airport Card Not Installed." This is odd because it's worked fine since January.
I went to Networking, and Airport was off. When I clicked "Turn Airport On" nothing happened.
I tried holding shift and restarting, restarting again, and shutting down. It's dead. My Windows laptop gets internet without a problem.
Some forums have recommended holding P and R while restarting. What is that? Other ideas as to what has occurred?
    Thanks!

I recently bought and installed iLife '11 and since then (few weeks ago) I have had intermittent issues with the airport card not working and a message saying 'airport not installed' showing. I mention iLife '11 as it is the only significant change to my system since I bought the iMac. Until now I have never experienced any issues with airport cards on this or a long serving previous iMac. The point is nothing I have done (I've hunted out many discussion threads on this and other forums) has made a blind bit of difference (gone through all of the things so far suggested here - nothing worked). The only solution has been to switch off and try again the next day. So far that has worked but I would rather know why this happens and how to stop it then just be at the mercy of a random error / bug. Anyone else had random failures of airport cards? I have grown to expect Apple equipment to be reliable... having re-evaluate that of late!
I have a late '09 iMac with the latest OS updates installed. Linked to a secure wireless network, shared with a Dell PC (also wireless).

  • MacBook Pro 15 (2.4 GHz) Loosing AirPort Connectivity

I have a MacBook Pro 15 (2.4GHz) connecting via AirPort to an AirPort Extreme base station. At least once a day, randomly, my MacBook will drop the wireless connection, and then start prompting me for a password to reconnect. If I reboot the machine, it automatically reconnects to my saved wireless connection. I cannot seem to solve this problem - has anyone seen similar symptoms, or come up with a solution?

Suggest that you also cross-post over in one of the AirPort Forums.
The next time the MBP drops connection do the following:
    System Preferences>Network
    Click the Assist Me button.
In the next window that pops up, click the Diagnostic button & do the necessary.
Also, run the Airport Utility app which is located inside the Utilities folder.
