MacBook no longer sleeps before battery run out
I have had my MacBook for a few years now, recently it started just completely losing power instead of entering sleep mode when the battery was low (the computer does not shut down it just completely dies causing me to lose documents I have been working on!), I assumed this was probably just the battery getting old so I purchased a brand new one (at great expense!) but this has not solved the problem - if anything it has got worse - it used to only occasionally do this but now it does it every time the battery runs down.
I have tried calibrating the battery but this has not helped, I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions that could explain what is causing this or even solve the issue?
Thanks,
Matt
Hmmm...seems like everything -should- be okay.
I am guessing that you've run permissions repair by now. (That shouldn't effect your battery, but sometimes, obvious things are just that...obvious.)
This leads me to firmware checks and upgrades. Here's the how to: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1557?viewlocale=en_US
But before just blindly downloading stuff and running it, check as follows: Utilities>MacBook SMC Firmware Update (and/or MacBook EFI Update). Make sure those are up to date. (They should be, but...) If they are, stop. +Do not download anything!+
If they are not, I recommend backing up important files before attempting anything with firmware, just to be safe.
Best of luck--

Keyboard and trackpad unresponsive after computer is woken from sleep or battery runs out
I am having problems after my battery runs out completely or when I open my macbook a day later with the battery charged. If my battery runs out, after I plug it in and turn it on, the first thing that appears is the login page and there is a dark grey background instead of my normal blurred background, and the user picture is shifted to the right. After I enter my password a small white bar at the bottom loads and my normal login page loads, but this time my keyboard and trackpad are unresponsive. I have to wait for the display to go to sleep, close my macbook and then open it for my keyboard and trackpad to work. Sometimes I have to repeat this process more than once. The same thing happens when I wake up my computer with full battery after a nights sleep, and instead of being able to wake it up just by opening the lid I have to turn it on with the power button. Please help I know this isn't normal behavior. I have already reset the SMC and PRAM with no success and this problem was there before and after I upgraded from Mavericks to Yosemite.
Thanksif any one ever has this problem, i figured it out. you have to reset the PRAM AND NVRAM. to do so...
hold down the command+option+P+R keys before starting the computer and wait for 2 start up tones. done and done. -

Macbook Air (11 inch) does NOT go in hibernation mode when battery runs out
Hi,
I have a problem with my new Macbook Air. When the battery runs out to 0% it does NOT go into hibernation mode, it just turns itself off and all my data is lost. It never happened to my old 2008 Macbook Air!
I have all updates, the 1.4Ghz Macbook with 4GB RAM upgrade in case that matters. Hope anyone can help? Is there perhaps a setting where I can set at which Percentage (%) the Macbook should go into hibernation? Thanks in advance!Noone knows a solution? I also still have problems with my Macbook not waking up properly (like everyone else). The main problem is, however, that it SHUTS down when the battery is empty and does not hibernate!
And I can't install the MacBook Air Late 2010 Software Update 2.0 - I always get this message: "MacBook Air (Late 2010) Software Update can’t be installed on this disc. This volume does not meet the requirements for this update."
- The update also does not show up in Software Update, I had to download it manually!
And I believe its NOT because I have 10.6.6 because I have talked to others who have the same problem under 10.6.5! -
MacBook Pro doesn't hibernate when runs out of battery
Dear all,
I've been experiencyng this issue for quite a while now and is very frustrating. My MacBook Pro (Early 2011) doens't go to sleep as it should when runs out of battery. It simply dies. This is not a continuous issues as it happens 1/2 oh the times that battery runs out and I cannot connect it to power (low battery warning is also working perfectly).
Mac is stock besides HDD (now SSD) and RAMs. Battery stock as well and loks good in sysinfo (attached):

It doesn't at all appear to be a HW issues, as batteries behaves normally and system sleeps corretcly at times. Indeed, seems to be a software issue as also running a pm set command in terminal after mac died returned this result:

It seems that Address book service prevents system from sleeping.
Thank you in advance for your help!
Bests,
AlexHi all,
Thnk you for the reply.
@andyBall: I though that the battery might run out sooner than what it reports, however it typically behaves behaves quite well - 5+ hours after fully charged and approximately 10 minutes of operation after low battery warning. Very hard that battery is running out before the system realize that. Yet I have to try the SMC reset. Will revert.
@SilverSkyRat: I have one iCloud and one Gmail for work. Today I have disabled both and OS hibernated well (no failure). Later in the day I reactivated Gmail and system still hibernated fine. I mainly use the Mac for work therefore it's rather difficult to perform continus test of this kind. Although, system somtimes hibernates fine with also all account active.
General question, which are the program associated with "Address Book Source Sync"? Only "Contacts"?
Also, I have Little Snitch on the computer, may this be anyhow linked with this issue in your opinion/experience?
Best regards,
Alex -
My MB dies when battery runs out, instead of sleeping
Hi
My AL MB 2.4 simply dies when the battery runs out, rather than going to sleep like all my other Apple notebooks. When I plug it in and hit the power button, a graduated progress bar appears at the bottom center of the screen - not something I have seen before.
What can I do?That's normal deep sleep. You are getting the progress bar because it has to restore the session. It isn't the same as shutting down.

Trackpad gestures freezes after battery runs out
I have noticed very annoying problem with my macbook pro. Everytime when the battery runs out trackpads finger gestures freezes and only one finger using + scrolling with two works but nothing with three or four fingers. Also the mouse acceleration like shuts down. Only way to make the trackpad working again is to reboot the computer.
I have also tried deepsleep widget and the problem doesn't seem to have anything to do with the hibernation but with the battery life ending.
Does anyone have a same problem and any way to fix it without rebooting the computer? No I mean when the battery really runs out and computer goes to sleep and then the blinking light stops blinking and computer goes to hibernate mode.

Help! While doing workaday tasks on my 15" MacBook Pro with 10.6, I got the dreaded slowly unfolding darkened screen with the message "You need to restart your computer. Hold down the power button until it turns off." Kernel panic, I guess.
In the past, in the few times this has ever happened to me, I held down the Power button as instructed, and the Mac turned off.
HOWEVER, this time around, holding down the Power button does absolutely nothing! It doesn't make the computer turn off, no matter how long I hold it down, nor if I try holding it down in combination with other keys.
Needless to say, the OS is completely frozen otherwise, and no keyboard or trackpad actions have any effect.
And since this is the new kind of MacBook Pro -- there's no way to remove the battery!
So, is the only solution, to unplug it from the power supply and simply wait for 8 hours (or whatever) until the battery runs out of juice? Say it ain't so!
(I'm writing this on someone else's computer, needless to say.)
I NEED access to my computer's files TODAY for important work-related matters. Am I out of luck, or is there some secret way to get this darn thing turned off and restarted? If you insist! :

after updating my Iphone 5 to IOS 7.02 from IOS7.0 (with IOS 7.0 everything was fine) i have a battery life issue.
my battery runs out really fast down 50% in two hours when the phone is closed.
could someone help plz?I found this article from Google helpful.

Cheers -
I have just updated my 4s to IOS7. and now my battery discharge is significantly increase. With my Iphone fully charged, the battery run out within 6 hours without using the phone at all. Would it be possible to get the IOS 6.1.3 back to my 4S?
Hi, thanks for the suggestion. I have tried as you suggested, and when opening the "purchased" apps some have the icloud logo next to them, but I only have "OPEN" against "Find My iPhone". When opening it up, it goes through the same routine; needs to be updated before proceeding, and wouldn't update because I don't have IOS8.
Anything else I could try, or am I doomed!
All of your help is much appreciated, thanks -
Battery runs out very quicky in iOS 4.0.1
Hello dear supporters.
i'm new here (thats my first messege :)) but i do know a thing or 2 about using the iphone.
(i support all day long in an israeli support forum.)
But I do have a problem:
I've updated to iOS 4.0.1 and since then, the battery runs out so quickly, even in stand by mode i lose about 20% in 3-4 hours.
when i serf on safari and app store, wifi or 3G, i lose like 15% in 30-60 minutes or so.
the same thing when i talk on the phone, listen to music, play games etc.
i've talked to some other guys, they were on 4.0.1 and they downgraded to 4.0 but they still have the same battery problems just like i have. the same problems.
in the other hand, guys who are on 4.0 and didn't update, don't suffer from any battery problems what so ever...
my question is this:
is there any problem in 4.0.1 that leaves a "mark" on the iphone that makes the battery get a little bit hot and run out quickly?
is there any good solution?
iphone 3GS's, some are jailbroken and some are not...

Message was edited by: mr-andersonMe and my friend came to a conclusion and we think that there's a bug in 4.0.1 that makes the modem work 300% harder and therefor the battery runs out quickly, and as you know, modem cannot be downgraded, and yet there's no new modem. So every one who updated to 4.0.1 even for 1 minute is stuck right now with a modem that uses the battery in a bad way.
(maybe it's connected to the signal appearance update in 4.0.1...)
What do you all think people?

Why does my battery run out zoo quickly
I got a late 2011 macbook NEW and the battery runs out in a hour just surfing the web....Doesnt it supposed to have 7 hour battery??

I just wanna say ios 6.1.2 on my 3gs that really slowly with chinese typing keyboard. And battery run out so fasttttttttt!!!!!
do you guys feel the same ?????Same here. My 32GB iPhone 3GS works great under iOS 6.1.3. Since I am the original owner of the phone, purchased in July of 2009 and it is long out of contract with AT&T, I had AT&T unlock the phone (not jail break) and my son now uses it on T-Mobile. He has a non-data pay as you go plan so he must be on WIFI to get data, but his school has it as do all his friends houses so it is no real issue. Also very cheap. Amazingly good support by Apple that an almost 4 year old phone still runs the latest and greatest OS. Does not happen with Android. Heck, many new Android phones have an old version, incredible as that may be.

Iphone 4's battery runs out in 2 hours after connecting to Exchange 2003
Hi,
Ever since I connected my iphone to Exchange 2003, the battery runs out 3-4 times as fast. It looks like it's constantly polling the server for new mai and also the phones appears to run hotter than before. Is there any parameter I can tweak to fix this?
I'm running IOS 5 on iPhone 4.
Thanks,
GuyMy battery on my iphone 4 was draining in a few hours and turning hot while not doing anything (idling).
I downloaded lAssistant (with an L not an i) and noticed that before i deleted my hotmail account, the activity of the CPU while my iphone 4 was not doing anything, was 35-40% while AFTER i deleted my hotmail account the activity dropped to 4% and the battery returned tom normal drain.
My Iphone 4 returned to normal operation after
1. removing my Hotmail account from settings->mail,contacts->accounts->(choose hotmail account) Delete Account,
2. turning off my iphone 4
3. turning on my iphone 4
4. Re-adding my Hotmail account
The battery has STOPPED draining and getting hot. -
2G Ipod Touch stuck in recovery mode after battery runs out
I recently bought an Ipod Touch and have had the battery run out on me several time now on accident and every time it has gotten stuck in recovery mode giving me error 1604 every time i try to restore it. several times before i have gotten it to restore by seemingly random means but was wondering if there was a single way this can be solved other than making sure my battery never dies.
Hi Ardent Veritas,
The 1604 error is generally related to USB connection issues. The USB connection issue could be causing the charging issues also.
Make sure the iPod is directly connected to the PC and not plugged into a hub, monitor, or keyboard. This article: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1286 provides general USB connection troubleshooting tips.
